External link →We've never implemented a strategy for autotap to try to maximize the diversity of colors spent (or any non binary spending strategy for that matter). That's why autotap has NEVER automatically paid for Chamber Sentry. I suppose we could investigate removing the "pay rest" button for Chamber Sentry given that we know our strategy will not match players' hopes. #wotc_staff
Is it ever worth coding corner case cards in respect to autotapper? WotC has a history of similar 'optimal' mana considerations on cards, and at some point I imagine they overlap enough to simply recycle those optimizations for future cards.
I'm sorry if it sounds too vague, but I'm thinking of something like the Sunburst mechanic, where players are generally incentivized to diversify their mana when paying for those cards.
It's quite similar to Sunburst (which I played [for the first time?] with [[Etched Oracle]] in Mystery Booster this week). If GRN had had a greater "pay diverse colors" theme we might have investigated it. At the time, we were working on getting autotap to care about what actions you'd be able to afford after doing the current action. Eldraine had some big autotap concerns too (hello Adamant!) and there are certainly more in M:tG's future, but I'm sure someday will be the right time to try to solve the Sunburst problem. It just hasn't been our priority yet. #wotc_staff
