Additionally of those formats, how much more popular is BO1 over traditional?

I've seen these numbers passed around a lot. To be frank, they represent the players who choose to use that program and not the player base as a whole.
Historic is still much more popular than Explorer. Explorer is the least-played of the main formats - which is totally reasonable since it's also the youngest! It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it or that we won't keep supporting it! You can still expect to see Explorer-focused content coming to the game before long.
One of Magic's strengths is that it has a lot of different ways to play, and at the end of the day, we aren't really concerned with what's beating what. It's all part of the game.
is this counting Historic Brawl as part of Historic? Because otherwise, while it's definitely possible and I'd believe your numbers over user submitted ones, this does seem suspect. I really don't know anyone who still plays Historic outside of Historic Brawl.
No, this is looking at the primary constructed formats. Brawl and Historic Brawl games are divided out separately. We serve a lot of different types of players!
This is interesting insight.
I assumed the number of players would directly correlate to how easy / difficult it is to get into a format.
A format like Historic being much harder to get into compared to Explorer for example. But I guess this is only relevant to new players. A tenured player would most likely already have the cards to play either.
Also when you are talking about "main formats" are you including Alchemy in this as well? Just curious ;)
Yes, that's among Standard/Historic/Alchemy/Explorer. These are the "major" supported constructed formats in the client.
When can we expect to see Modern
We use Modern to scare the Cardset team into line when they get rowdy.
