When I was working in dev I had a 2D artist on my team who could produce a polished, ready to plug-in UI portrait in about 4 to 6 hours.

Artist works for $28 an hour. $112 to $168 for a new 2D character portrait to go with the new costume. It adds value to costumes, which we all know is quite needed at the moment.

How much did Marvel Strike Force make in 2020? I’m reading reports here that it was $300,000,000. Three-hundred-million dollars.

What, is there like, 20 costumes in the game at the moment, say? 20 x $168 on the high end, that’s $3,368 to produce that art, and get it in the game for it’s full life-cycle. It’ll always be able to be enjoyed, because once it’s made, it’s made.

Scopely can’t even budge on 0.0003% of their revenue from one year alone to finish a feature that they implemented.

Because seriously, costumes aren’t done until I see some fresh 2D art swagger to go along with the 3D models. Right now, costumes are half-baked trash.

While I’m here, I know a lot of people think the developers are withholding features to make more money, and I always want to point out it’s always the suits at the top who do this.

The devs do what they’re told by their head of development, who does what’s told by the CEO, who gets told what shoe-string budget to make the game on by Marvel, who get hounded by Disney every financial quarter to ‘show us 4 million percent higher profit margins on those mobile games or they’re shut down’…

It’s just something I see in global chat (I know, but sometimes I have to recruit there for my alliance) a lot, just hate on the devs being greedy. Processes like this have almost nothing to do with developers, especially when they’re tied up to huge IPs like this.

TLDR? Scopely: stop being so godamn cheap, and pay an artist or artists to make some 2D art for the costumes feature that YOU decided to add

It's not an issue of art it's an issue of tech. We would have to take engineers away from other projects in order to allow the game to show a different portrait in all areas of the game - it's no small task. But this is something that we want to do in the future.
