[2019] Figured out why some the Official servers have such high ping.

I live in Southern California. Since the LA servers have been pinging terribly for me lately, I've been joining Dallas servers.

I noticed today that the Dallas server I joined, I had really low ping...like physically impossibly low. While a lot of the other people in the server had higher than average ping.

I looked up the IP of the server and it showed as a California IP. I suspected that the server names were switched around. So I joined a "LA" server that pinged 120 to me, and checked the IP. It's in Virginia....

This need to be made aware of, the game could be losing massive numbers due to players thinking the servers are terribly laggy 24/7, when in fact they're playing on a server across the country.

TLDR: All of the server names are mixed up relative to their location, join a server based off of your ping in the server browser, not off the location in the title.
