It's definitely a display issue. It happens reliably too. If you go up a rank by just 1 or 2 points, it doesn't display the new one (if your mmr is xx00 or xx01) and the same happens if you go down a rank by one point (xx99).
But once you leave the server, the correct rank is displayed.
Yeah, seems like that. We actually can't produce it ourselves but we're still investigating. IMO It's not a huge deal since you will probably play another game, and the MMR is what's important for the match, not the rank icon. And it seems to be temporary as well.
