Hello everyone. Due to recent activity on this subreddit I have decided to make this post to have some clarity and open a channel for discussion.

As part of the moderation team, I want to take a moment to explain some of our key policies that often raise questions. Our goal is to maintain a healthy, respectful, and safe environment for everyone in this community. Here’s why we have the following rules and practices in place:

1. Why We Don’t Allow Witch-Hunt Posts

A witch-hunt post is any content that singles out a person or group for targeted harassment, ridicule, or other negative actions by the community. Asking why a specific player received a punishment still singles out that player and pants them in a negative light. While it might seem like a good idea to “call out” bad behavior, these posts can quickly spiral out of control, leading to:

  • Harassment: People who are named or targeted in these posts often receive threats, harassment, and other forms of online abuse. This goes against Reddit’s content policies and the values of our community.
  • Misinformation: Posts can be based on incomplete, misleading, or false information, leading to unjust attacks on innocent individuals.
  • Mob Mentality: When a large group of people focuses their anger on an individual or group, it often escalates beyond what is reasonable or justified.

We believe in constructive discussion and addressing issues through appropriate channels. If you see something concerning, please report it to us directly rather than making a public post. This allows us to handle the situation calmly, fairly, and with the facts presented as the focus.

2. Why We Don’t Discuss Bans Publicly

When deciding to issue any kind of action based on the evidence provided to us or gathered by us, there is always ample discussion amongst multiple members of the moderation team. We don’t discuss these bans publicly for several reasons:

  • Privacy: We respect the privacy of all users, even those who have been banned. Public discussions about bans can lead to unnecessary drama, harassment, or embarrassment for the person involved.
  • Fairness: Every situation is unique, and it’s often difficult to convey all the nuances and context of a situation in a public forum. Discussing bans publicly could lead to misunderstandings or further conflicts.
  • Focus on the Community: Our focus is on maintaining a positive environment for the entire community, not on individual incidents. Publicly discussing bans either here or on our Discord server would detract from that goal.

We will not discuss third-party cases even in private for the same reasons. Asking publicly why an action was taken against you falls under the same category.Players are welcome to reach out to the moderation team via the appropriate channels (Discord Modmail or "contact Moderators" on this subreddit) and ask for clarifications, appeals or other questions one might have regarding their own accounts.

3. Why We Don’t Provide Evidence

Sometimes, people ask us to provide evidence or proof related to moderation decisions. Here’s why we generally refrain from doing so:

  • Protection of Sources: If someone reports a violation to us, we want them to feel safe and confident that their privacy will be respected. Sharing evidence could expose those who come forward.
  • Avoiding Escalation: Publicly sharing evidence can reignite or escalate conflicts, leading to more drama rather than resolution.
  • Respect for All Parties: We aim to treat all users with respect, even when they’ve violated the rules. Publicly sharing evidence often feels punitive and can do more harm than good.

Final Thoughts

Our primary goal is to keep this community a welcoming, safe, and respectful space for everyone. The rules and policies we enforce are designed to achieve that goal. Even if at first glance they seem strict or opaque, there are valid reasons behind such actions.

I encourage you to ask any questions you might have on this topic, but bear in mind, per the rules explained, naming specific players or moderators, making unfounded claims or other kinds of brigading will be removed. This is simply not the appropriate place to do so.

Thanks for being a part of this community!

Why is there plenty of evidence of moderators doing exactly the opposite of what is laid out here, and discussing ban reasons publicly on this very subreddit? One that comes to mind was the guy banned for kicking a moderator into spikes and not saying "sorry".

People will not follow the rules if the people who issue them disregard them themselves.

The public responses were approved only after the player appealed, was explained in detail why actions were taken against their account and then proceeded to make multiple posts on this subreddit fabricating a story to garner sympathy.

Any evidence of moderator abuse that gets reported we investigate. Most of the reports are either pure fabrications without evidence, or the evidence is an attempt at framing; nickname and profile picture changed on a community server making it seem as the official moderator are the most common. Mistaking community moderators as being official ones is also common here.

I do not recall the specific case you are mentioning.

Not to come off like a sour apple but with each of your points you're just saying

  1. Don't say things about us we don't like.

  2. We won't tell you why we don't like them.

  3. We won't show you where you said the things that we don't like.

Am I going insane? What on earth.

  1. You can criticize us, we do not have a problem with that, but to openly accuse specific players and put a spotlight that could show them in a negative light or accusing moderators of abuse is slander and witch-hunting. Present your evidence via the appropriate channels as it is intended and not in a public forum.
  2. There is no emotions attached to this. You are not privy to know why and for what someone else has received an action. We respect the players privacy.
  3. We will tell and show you what you said/did to garner an action in the appropriate private channels that I mentioned - Modmail on Discord, "Message the mods" button on this subreddit, or the contact emails. Again respect of privacy.

We know BERK as the heart of the community in this region. Him being banned makes us worry that we can be banned for anything.

Being popular or well-liked should not give one a free pass when it comes to following the server rules. I hope we are in agreement on that. The same can be said about the public demanding to know private information of such individual. Just because they are famous does not mean we can waver their right to privacy. At the time of this post, the player in question has not yet reached out to us so we find ourselves in a "damned if we do, damned if we do not" kind of situation. The subreddit was heavily brigaded, many posts deleted which raised questions, which prompted this post as a general explanation of the rules to bring clarity of our actions.

Let me be clear, I have examined and reevaluated the case against the said player and the action we issued was per or guidelines based on the evidence provided.
