I think capture the flag would be an amazing addition to Mordhau. In my opinion - The existing game mechanics and maps would lend themselves really well to the game mode with a few tweaks.
How it could work:
- Add a flag item for each team that can be picked up. A big f*ck off banner of a flag,
The flag will keep you from mounting a horse, has to be actively equipped, and slows your character down equivalent to if you were wearing a heavy chest. This effect would stack on existing worn armor - making anyone rocking 3/3/3 picking it up go slow af but still allowing naked dudes to be fast but not turbo speed.
- Could be 1 or 2 flag CTF - depending on map.
Mountain peak would be great for your standard 2 flag ctf, For a map like grad, have round based or timer based 1 flag CTF. Each team gets X minutes to attack and steal the flag up to 3 times - if both teams tie after their attack then there is a shorter tiebreaker round for each team. If they tie after that, it’s a tie.
- Making a map out of the Feitoria Castle would be f*ckin awesome.
Ignore the outside completely. One team flag is on top of the keep, the other is in the town square. All out urban medieval combat over a flag.
When dropped, flag can be reset by the owning team, similar to how weapon bundles/barrels are destroyed now.
That’s really all I thought about.
Extra credit ideas:
• Tiebreaker - finishing a game tied (1 flag or 2 flag CTF) triggers overtime. In 1 flag - Each team gets a round with a shorter amount of time to steal the flag. In 2 flag - a short amount of time is added to the match where next score wins.
If both teams are tied after overtime, both 1 flag and 2 flag, then it triggers a skirmish. Both teams square off in a single round of skirmish to determine the victor. The map area will be really restricted to force resolution and prevent ppl from hiding. Ex: town square on feitoria/grad courtyard. Timer would be short (2/3min) to prevent ppl trolling and not fighting.
• Flag emblem voting - have 3/4 different styles of flag with different emblems. Each team can vote at the start of the game what they want their flag to look like.
