2s 2023 uh New World development update I'm
5s here with Patrick Dave and Katie and we
8s have a bunch to talk about it's been a
9s while since we've been here so I am
11s going to Dive Right In with an overview
13s of the show
14s we have a new thing to talk about it's
16s called Seasons we're taking the season
18s model and bringing it to New World we're
20s going to go deep on that
22s we have some PVP updates to share we
24s have some balance changes we want to
26s talk about
27s we're going to spend some time going
28s over the roadmap we've all wanted to
30s know what we're planning this year so
31s we're going to go super deep on that I'm
33s really excited it's been a while since
35s we've done one of these so uh let's just
36s Dive Right In

44s so here we are we're bringing the
46s seasonal model into New World
48s I think the first thing that comes to
49s mind is is Patrick it's a season what's
51s a season in New World yeah so in New
54s World a season is a bundle of content
55s that is themed around uh one kind of
57s coherent idea for each season so each uh
60s quarter we're gonna give players a drip
62s of content that is a seasoned narrative
64s it's a storyline that is following Grace
66s O'Malley and her new band of mercenaries
68s the silver crows it's going to be a new
71s season pass which gives you a great way
72s to find new cosmetics new consumables
75s and other items on the season pass and
78s then also going to introduce other
79s content with each season so season one
81s for example something like the Imperium
82s Forge Expedition is going to be included
84s in the season
85s awesome
87s um
88s Dave you know why bring the seasonal
90s model to New World what does it bring
91s you what does it bring to us and I think
93s it brings a couple things one is it
95s brings content in a regular Cadence
96s right like we're creating an appointment
98s with players every three months we'll
100s have something new the goal is to have a
102s variety of things something that appeals
103s to all different types of players so
105s like every season is a good time to come
106s back the other thing I think it does
108s that's really important is it gives
109s people more directed goals right like
112s one of the beautiful things in the
113s seasonal passes is the journey and the
115s challenges and the activities it just
117s gives you a lot of stuff to do so it's
118s like sometimes you know you want to just
120s grind out some of this stuff uh while
122s you're waiting for you know an
123s expedition to pop or something like that
125s yeah one piece of feedback that we
126s receive from returning players who have
128s gotten up to level 60 had gotten their
130s gear score up they didn't know what to
133s do when they came back they weren't sure
134s so this is going to really give them
135s that directed play where they can get
137s their season pass and they can see their
139s journey and their activities and they
140s can have that to kind of create that
143s gameplay for them
145s what can we expect with each season
147s yeah so with each season we're going to
149s be delivering the season narrative so
150s that's going to be that story that
152s follows Grace O'Malley and the silver
153s crows as you build up that mercenary
155s group and you take on new clients each
157s season so season one for example you're
159s bringing in a sky this spear daughter
161s who is trying to Vanquish this beringium
164s warlock uh we'll help her for the entire
166s season and then a lot of the season pass
168s is going to tie into that content so
170s each season is going to ask you to go do
171s content relevant to uh That season story
173s so go into the Imperium Forge go kill
176s virangian soldiers uh use your new flame
178s core items to craft cool new powerful
180s items each season after that we're also
182s hoping to build uh on what we're
184s delivering so while season one has a
186s season pass and season narrative season
188s two might have better and bigger new
189s content for players to explore
192s that's awesome
193s um
195s can you get specific on what we're going
196s to grow each season like like some
198s things we're going to add on to them
199s after the first one yeah and we'll
200s discuss this more on the road map but
202s high level like Patrick said Is you know
204s we want to just build up the
205s capabilities build up the content each
207s uh each season
209s yep and so you've talked about the story
210s arc a little bit do you want to talk
211s about the Expedition the Imperium forage
213s yeah Imperium Forge is a really fun new
216s Expedition it's our first expedition
217s where we're going into a varangian
219s Expedition so new enemy type for players
221s to get gear for to fight uh you're gonna
224s fight this primordial being named be
227s free she is this fiery being who uses a
230s lot of Fire magic flamethrowers fire
232s events popping off it's a really fun
233s chaotic fight and then past that once
235s you defeat her you move on to Sir
237s Severin this barangian Commander who's
239s harnessed the power of fire with his
241s battle ax and that fight's really
242s chaotic and our audio team Jed in
245s particular they did amazing work with
246s the audio there a lot of cool electronic
249s guitar riffs definitely and then between
250s the bosses like there's new mechanics
253s throughout like there are things when we
254s did our internal play test there are
256s mechanics that I've never seen in any of
258s our other Expeditions so that was really
260s cool to happen upon for the world and
262s the boss fights introduce a lot of new
264s mechanics as well for sure for sure and
266s that first boss wiped everybody so so
269s many times that we knew that it was good
272s and one thing we haven't mentioned yet
273s we should mention the name right it's
275s called fellowship and Fire And as you'll
276s notice fire is a huge theme throughout
278s it right like the forge the Imperium
280s Forge there's lob everywhere the varying
282s sect is called the the forged it's a new
285s enemy types that you'll play uh and as
287s we talk about other features you'll see
289s uh they're all tied into this fiery
291s theme well this next feature is not at
293s all tied into the fiery it is
296s but uh we've heard a lot about uh gear
300s set storage and um
302s coming in March anything you want to you
304s know any details you want to share with
306s that Dave uh I think it is a
308s transformational feature you know I
309s think one of the best things in our game
311s is the sort of horizontal progression
312s all the different gear sets you collect
314s uh it is just sort of a pain right now
316s to have to equip them manually this is
318s going to change all of that I think it's
320s a great feature and it does tie into
322s seasons in one way a nice way is that
324s you may be able to unlock a gear set via
327s the season pass so
329s yeah the reward track has yeah
333s um how about the new uh there's a new
334s heart Rune coming yep uh so again tied
336s into the fire theme it's called Uh The
339s Firestorm uh it's this really cool
341s ability where you do like this kick and
342s it creates this Firestorm uh it's gonna
345s be really awesome it's a super
346s satisfying yeah oh yeah definitely my
348s favorite for sure yeah
349s well another thing I'm excited about
351s that is it's not really part of the
353s season but where it's coming out in this
354s release is the uh
356s we had the msq we revamped it up through
358s everfall we've now pushed that further
360s through Brightwood and Weaver's Fenn
362s Katie you want to just talk about that a
365s little yeah so
366s um as you mentioned we did the revamp
368s starting experience and that went took
371s players all the way to ever fall but
372s then you kind of went back onto what we
375s had at launch after that and it was a
377s stark contrast and a lot of folks gave
378s us the same feedback at that point that
380s it was grindy it was a lot of walking
382s there wasn't a lot to a lot to do they
384s just felt like they were going point to
385s point and that was it
387s um so we revamped that piece of the msq
390s the main story quest line so Brightwood
393s all the way into Weaver's Fen have a new
395s story it's super exciting there's
398s different things that you're doing
399s there's different types of mechanics
400s there's a really fun and exciting piece
403s on Vega bridge and Weaver's fun which
405s used to be kind of a you know a place
408s that you weren't really going often
409s after you did the side quests now it's
411s definitely a place to go and hop around
413s so I'm super excited about that well and
416s couple that with the season story
419s narrative that comes out there's a lot
421s of new for the people that like questing
423s and that kind of content there's a lot
424s to do and there's some new mechanics
426s some new storytelling tools that we have
428s in our toolbox that are coming out that
429s I think uh
431s one of my favorites is the spy mission
433s yeah I had a lot of fun with that I
435s think I think people will enjoy that so
437s it definitely like brings you more into
439s the lore than our our former questline
441s did we we did a good job before but now
444s we're doing an excellent job and I think
445s that we're just continuing that
447s Excellence as we get into Brightwood and
449s Weaver's fun so I'm super excited to
452s hear people's feedback when this is on
454s PTR yeah me too um so we have a we're
457s talking about Seasons coming out every
459s three months but we understand the need
461s to you know have content between that
462s and for me uh one of the things I love
464s and is when the world feels more Dynamic
466s and there's things happening on a
467s monthly basis Katie do you want to kind
469s of talk through some of the events
470s coming up sure so
472s um along with this first season as you
475s said we're gonna be rolling out content
477s so it's not on day one you're gonna see
479s these but we have some events that we
480s have tied to the season so we have the
483s return of the rabbit's Revenge so uh
486s you're gonna get to take down some
488s corrupted rabbits which as you know uh I
491s believe that taking down Stanley is a
492s bummer and it's a murderous and yeah
495s it's monsters okay monsters but
498s corrupted rabbits that's okay right
501s because they're in their own kind of
502s hellscape so you're just taking them out
504s of their misery and you're also getting
506s uh points for the seasonal reward track
509s to be quite honest so you have that one
511s coming out first and then last year we
513s had the summer medley Fair
516s which was a world-changing event for
518s this spring event we have another
520s world-changing event where you're going
521s to get to go out and instead of seeing
523s like modeling bugs like you see in the
525s summer you're gonna see these wispy
527s blooms and they're pretty dangerous so
529s if you happen upon them just be aware
531s the danger lurks with the spring-tied
533s bloom event and then after that because
536s we aren't finished yet we have Fury of
538s the spriggan which is another
540s um smaller event but it has good rewards
543s and I think people are going to be
544s really excited about this like Mega boss
546s spriggan that spawns at the end of it
548s yeah one of my like favorite of the
551s three things that is uh the set piece is
553s built for the spring tide Bloom are I
555s think they're just so cool they bring in
557s all these awesome you know spring
559s pastels and it just really sets the mood
561s and that little village is I think it's
563s one of my favorite uh definitely things
566s we've built in the game super bright and
568s colorful and that's in when you're in
570s like zones that are maybe not as
572s colorful and you happen upon one of
573s those it's so bright and fun my favorite
577s is actually Fury of the spriggan because
579s you can just happen upon that like
581s you're just running throughout the world
582s and you see this like cluster of trees
586s and you're like what is this and again
588s danger murder it's just lurking for you
591s there if you show up by yourself but if
592s you bring your your squad with you if
594s you bring your your group you can
596s totally take things out it takes like
598s you have to go around and like like
600s manage things so it's not just go in and
603s death and murder it's like go in and
605s make sure that you're taking care of
606s these actions first I don't want to give
609s too much away make sure you're taking
610s care of these actions first and then you
613s can start murdering and then a big boss
615s is going to come and try and get you so
617s it's just like it's so much going on and
618s it's a lot of fun I think it's going to
620s be super Dynamic and interesting me too
622s it's all going to be yeah
624s so let's talk about the seasons pass a
626s little bit at a high level we have two
629s reward tracks going the free one and the
631s paid one and I think one really
633s important thing to to get across here is
636s no content is blocked behind the season
639s pass the season pass is only access to
642s different Rewards
645s Dave do you want to talk about that
646s difference a little bit and how we're
647s thinking about it and you know the
649s obvious question is is this going to be
651s pay to win uh yeah so let me just high
653s level overview there's a hundred levels
656s there's a free track and a premium track
657s the premium track is going to cost 20
660s 000 marks of Fortune which is roughly 20
662s bucks
663s and you get rewards at each level so on
666s the free track you have a variety of
668s things there's a skin set there's
670s in-game items there's various boosts
672s there is some marks of Fortune earned
674s back on both of them uh the premium
676s track generally just has more of stuff
678s uh so it's an optional to get another
681s roll there's some things that have
683s different uh uh sorry visuals to it
685s right so the Inferno chests for instance
687s first the regular chests have uh an
690s inferno visual to the weapons uh and
692s there are some slightly better roll odds
694s there also so uh but like you said
696s there's nothing exclusive to the premium
698s track uh or to the free track right like
700s this is just another way to get stuff in
702s game and we feel like you know if you
704s spend the time to level up and engage in
707s the season pass you deserve to be
708s rewarded for that that effort and time
711s anything you want to add Patrick I just
713s think one of the strong suits of the way
715s we're handling the season pass is you're
716s naturally going to progress it just by
717s playing new world so we're really
719s pointing you at content that's uh season
721s so specific as you guys mentioned
722s earlier we're going to send you to the
724s Imperium Forge to those varangian pois
726s but outside of that through the
728s activities card in particular you're
729s just going to gain season XP and
730s progress your pass so it's a great way
732s to be rewarded just for playing the game
733s on a daily basis 100 sorry to interrupt
736s but like that was exactly my experience
738s we were in an internal play test not
740s play testing the season pass but I would
744s we were play testing something else and
746s I kept getting the Pops that were like
748s you're gaining progress and I was like I
749s am
750s cool so then I was like what else can I
753s do and so this hour-long play test
754s turned into a three hour me trying to
756s make progression on a season pass and I
757s was like I've got it I gotta get back to
759s work hold on I also like how like the
762s cards you don't have to do everything so
763s it allows me to optimize around the way
765s I want to play and the stuff I find fun
767s or or if I want to optimize on speed and
769s I'm willing to trade off some stuff that
771s I would normally do I can do that as
772s well so I think it's uh it gives a lot
774s of flexibility and freedom to the player
776s well that's seasons

791s um so let's just Dive Right In I know we
793s got some balance changes coming that are
794s going to have a pretty big effect on PVP
796s yeah so we actually have a whole segment
798s where we're going to talk about balance
799s changes next but we did want to mention
800s here because like we really think about
802s the PVP meta when we are making these
804s changes we know it's gotten a little bit
806s stale uh and we're going to be working
808s on them in the fort but this we really
810s hope to shake up PVP and and how the
811s games are playing and you want to go
814s into detail on that or you want to wait
815s till we get to the next section let's go
816s into the next section okay good
819s um we also have some something I've been
821s wanting for a while which is enemy VFX
825s signaling so how many times do you run
828s into a heel Circle and it's not a
829s friendly and you're like oh
831s so um we're putting a red circle around
833s the enemy one so you'll know stay out of
836s that especially if it's like a fire bomb
838s or something or run into it if it's a
841s heal thing if it doesn't have that red
842s circle I think this is going to make war
843s a lot more clear it's going to be I
845s think it's going to make the game a lot
846s more readable and fun I'm really excited
849s to get this one in
850s beyond that we have some things we're
852s working on that some of these were not
853s committing to a timeline yet because
855s they're just it's hard to predict
856s exactly when they're going to land and
857s some of these you will see on the
859s roadmap when we get there uh the first
860s one is cross server opr yeah I'm so
863s excited for crossover rpr like actually
865s being able to queue faster see new
867s people like it'll be it'll be a good
870s time yeah for sure I'm really excited uh
873s that's not the only opr change coming is
875s it Dave yeah so when we add cross world
877s opr uh we think it's a good time to make
879s some refreshes to the opr so uh the big
882s thing is the scoring right like I think
884s right now scoring is too focused on
886s damage we really want to focus the
888s scoring around defending and capturing
890s points so that is going to be one big
891s change there's also going to be some
893s changes to the Fort we want to make the
895s doors a little bit more resistant to
897s pierce damage so those uh nasty ranged
900s players can't take down the doors uh
902s Siege uh stuff around the Ford expe
905s middle Fort will become a little
906s stronger and there's one more I'll get a
908s look at my notes sorry
910s oh baroness so uh we also are gonna
913s probably we're experimenting in our play
915s test with putting a shield on the doors
917s that prevents range flares from sniping
919s uh the baroness so uh but anyway we're
921s still working on these the ideas to sort
923s of refresh and update some of the
924s mechanics when we make it across world
926s speaking of refresh Phil yeah I know
929s people have been asking for some updates
930s to the PVP reward track I've heard a
933s little bit about it I think there's been
934s a few mentions yeah what are we doing
936s there so um the the we're making them a
940s lot better is the high level uh we
942s haven't touched them since we uh we
944s haven't really updated the Rewards or
947s the progression since we introduced the
948s feature and now uh we're going to make
951s some changes to really juice up the
952s rewards to make them really valuable for
954s PVP players so players that are really
956s focused on that this is going to be even
957s an even more lucrative source for them
959s to get good loot and then also uh we're
962s taking a bit more of the RNG out of it
964s and we're going to make sure you get
965s guaranteed really really good roles at
968s like every fifth Milestone on the track
969s and then also every time you go through
972s a level you're going to be guaranteed to
974s see good loot too so we're making sure
976s that it just shows up a lot more
977s frequently and players have a lot more
978s options to get the stuff they're looking
980s for
981s I'm sure that'll make some people happy
982s I hope so yeah I think it's going to be
984s really good um I'm excited for it for
986s sure yeah
987s uh cool and then uh we're doing a new
989s Arena map Hyundai yep so we are
992s currently testing it internally it's uh
995s you know it's about the same size but
997s the the layout is different to sort of
999s shake up the gameplay uh the ideas will
1001s uh turn this map live whenever it goes
1003s live and we'll turn the old map off uh
1005s for a little bit let players play the
1007s new map and then we might switch between
1008s Maps again in the future
1011s so there you have it uh we isn't there
1013s not one more you want to talk about I
1014s think I think there's nine particularly
1017s someone penciled it yeah this is kind of
1021s a biggie um
1023s uh you know the territory game
1026s is is one of the more fun parts of the
1029s game and I think that
1030s I think there's some stuff we can do to
1032s make it even better yeah we're calling
1033s it influence version two and the funny
1035s thing in my notes is Dave's like make
1037s sure you talk about this first
1041s it's last and that's the way it is uh
1044s but seriously yeah why don't you kind of
1045s give us a high level on uh what we're
1047s thinking there yeah so for influence V2
1048s the goal is definitely to make it less
1050s grindy feeling less you know a lot more
1052s fun and make it a lot more
1054s um bring people together uh in different
1057s territories so we're putting up a um
1059s doing a scheduler for territory certain
1061s influence um so uh certain territories
1064s at certain times will be available for
1066s influence and everyone will swoop in and
1068s try to go after that territory to go to
1070s war
1071s um and then we're also adding in towers
1073s that you can capture similar to the
1075s current control point and it will modify
1077s influence for the for the game I think
1079s it's going to be have fun having
1080s multiple targets to go to that will
1082s drive players around and create a more
1084s smaller confidence I think the tower is
1086s always up or is it just when the window
1088s is open just when the window is open so
1090s that will be when you can go capture and
1092s they'll modify the amount of influence
1093s you can earn from the missions nice I'm
1095s excited about this I think it's the goal
1097s is to sort of make these influence races
1099s feel like an event yes and uh will
1101s likely time the PVP reward changes with
1104s that because we want to make sure if you
1105s engage in this new activity right that
1107s you get rewarded for yep you're going to
1109s be getting uh you know a good dose of
1111s PVP experience and azoth salt to go get
1113s those better rewards and and hopefully
1115s yeah this focuses a lot of just action
1117s around specific zones at a time I'm
1120s really excited actually anyway so that's
1121s it for the PVP update uh the one thing I
1124s learned is that having notes doesn't
1125s make me cover everything

1136s alrighty time to talk about some balance
1138s changes I know you've all wanted these
1139s for a while uh I got Tony and Phil
1142s joining me and Dave this time so
1145s I'm just going to jump right in let's
1146s start with combat like I think that'll
1148s be an interesting conversation Dave why
1150s don't I I think I've heard a few people
1152s mention problems with the musket
1154s um you want to dig in on that just a
1156s little bit Yeah but before I do I want
1158s to mention all these changes for combat
1159s are coming in season one uh so
1161s everything we're going to talk about in
1162s common season one and second I think
1164s just that you know like we mentioned
1165s combat updates are going to be a bigger
1167s part of Seasons moving forward we're
1168s going to try to make big midi combat
1170s updates every season uh so let's talk
1172s about what comes in season one musket
1175s yeah so I have heard so so we're
1177s starting off with the most controversial
1179s change here musket is obviously uh an
1181s issue in some modes opr specifically but
1184s when we looked at how to resolve this uh
1187s to really make it balanced we're gonna
1189s have to turn it into like a wet noodle
1190s uh like not doing any damage and that
1192s didn't seem like a good path so we're
1195s trying something a little more
1195s controversial we're adding in uh
1198s inaccuracy to the weapon that goes away
1200s over time the idea is you've got to sort
1202s of Center your shot Take Aim so what
1204s we're trying to do just create a feel
1206s for the weapon right like the bow is
1208s your rapid fire whereas the musket is
1210s you know the deadly but takes a little
1212s bit longer to set up shot uh it'll be in
1214s PTR let us know what you think we think
1217s it's a way to sort of balance the weapon
1218s and give it an identity
1221s it's exciting do you think it's going to
1223s have a dramatic effect on PVE uh no not
1226s as much right because I think in PvP
1228s people are more erratic uh they Dodge
1230s right in PVE a lot of times the enemies
1232s sort of run at you so it does it impact
1234s the PVE as much which we actually liked
1236s a lot yeah if you're going for Center
1238s Mass you shouldn't really have a hard
1239s time on a yeah on a mob cool yeah you
1243s want to talk about some of the equip
1244s load uh changes yeah so I think another
1246s part of the meta that I think you know
1248s people are feeling is a little bit stale
1249s is is light meta has definitely taken
1251s over uh and I think we want to shake
1254s that up a little bit we like light uh we
1256s love the way it plays but we think it
1257s needs to have balances so one of the
1260s things we're doing is we're changing the
1261s damage mitigation formula to take armor
1263s into account for various uh perks uh
1266s shirking Fort and resilience are the
1268s main ones right so those perks will be
1270s less valuable if you're in light
1272s equipped than in your heavy equip uh and
1274s the goal there is like yes be light you
1276s know it gives you Mobility it gives you
1277s damage but we don't also want to make it
1279s give you a ton of Defense so like you've
1281s got to become a glass Cannon if you want
1283s to wear light
1284s does that improve the build choices then
1286s for tanks I I think our hope there is
1290s that it gives all the equip loads a
1292s little bit more of an identity right
1293s like like you there's no one that does
1295s it all which it feels a little bit like
1296s light does right now that's exciting
1299s yeah I'm interested in playing it and
1301s seeing it
1302s um
1304s it's like you sometimes like I have a
1305s tank character and uh it feels like dumb
1308s to bring it to opr so I think it'd be
1310s it'd be cool if I could find some use
1311s out of that and especially we talked
1313s earlier about some of the scoring
1314s changes in opr right like defending
1316s points and taking points are going to be
1317s more valuable uh and with this changing
1320s uh it's going to be a little bit more
1321s difficult for range yeah yeah so I can
1323s see Heavy taking a little more prominent
1325s role
1326s uh let's well I know there's changes
1328s coming to the hatchet and to the
1329s Greatsword yeah so I think both of these
1331s weapons were a little bit on the
1333s overpowered side so we're we're taking a
1335s little bit of a look at both of them
1337s uh so the great sword I think the main
1339s adjustments here are the weapon was just
1341s a little too sticky if you've ever
1342s played PVP uh you know it is hard to get
1345s away from a great sword person uh
1347s there's a lot of what we call homing on
1349s the weapon so we're taking a look at
1350s that and reducing it a little bit
1352s you know and we talk about this we
1354s actually were talking about this before
1355s we filmed this but it's okay if the meta
1357s changes it actually is good it's fun it
1359s changes it gives you different things to
1361s change different reasons do we use perks
1362s exactly exciting yeah get you thinking
1365s uh and then Hatchet I think uh you know
1367s the defy death is a little bit strong we
1371s are finally taking a look at that uh
1372s there will be changes there no get out
1374s of jail free card not this weapon
1376s anymore my death ratio is gonna go
1378s through the roof I'm the hatchet user in
1380s Expeditions also yeah
1382s because it's so good now
1386s um
1388s did you already cover the range PVE or
1390s is there more no there's more there so
1392s the the big change in range PV uh we've
1394s talked to alluded to this like they're
1396s not really super viable in Expeditions
1398s and high level mutations right now so
1400s one of the things we're doing we're
1401s doing two things one of the things is
1403s we're increasing the power of wards with
1405s ranged weapons so uh specifically for
1407s that high-end con sorry I meant Banes
1409s yeah uh when you're you're tackling you
1412s know those High available
1413s Expeditions you're going to have the
1415s proper veins for the the Expedition if
1417s you're going in with range now those
1418s will be more powerful to sort of
1420s compensate for it the second thing is
1422s we're also removing the elemental uh uh
1426s what are those called afex is in
1427s mutations so that'll help the various
1429s you know the fire staff users when it is
1431s fire week like you know they sort of get
1433s cut out so that'll help them also well
1436s this next one I'm really excited about
1438s like I said I play a lot with a tank but
1440s when Fresh Start started I decided to go
1442s full Mage and uh the fire staff changes
1445s are yep so this is uh one of our first
1448s of what we're calling a playability pass
1450s it's sort of like a light rework of a
1452s weapon with the fire staff we love the
1455s fire staff and I think it's just gotten
1456s a little underpowered and the meta and
1458s how it's used is a little bit boring
1460s maybe not boring but played out a little
1461s bit so we're making some changes to that
1463s uh it's a rework it's going to be on PTR
1466s play it let us know what you think and I
1468s think you know our goal be to do
1469s something like this for you know maybe a
1471s weapon every season or some sort of
1473s cadence like that cool
1475s well we're also uh balance isn't just
1477s hidden combat it's also hitting crafting
1479s which right why these guys are here yeah
1483s the first batch we're going to talk
1484s about are all for season one yep and
1486s then we might touch on a few things
1487s we're doing in the future um so Phil why
1489s don't you just take us through the
1490s changes yeah and I have to note that he
1492s had to copy me and get a card but well
1494s that's fine
1496s this guy reads off a card uh
1499s so uh yeah I think we're we're
1502s approaching a bunch of cool balance
1504s changes in season one for crafting uh
1506s focusing on uh XP gains more control for
1510s crafters and just some general quality
1512s of life improvements and so the the
1514s first thing I want to talk about is the
1515s XP gains uh we introduced uh first-time
1519s craft bonuses uh last year and we were
1522s taking a look at that we think we can
1524s make those a lot more you know meaty for
1527s the players so what we're doing is we're
1529s changing those uh right now they give
1531s you a double bonus on on your the first
1533s time you craft anything you get 2x the
1535s XP we're upping that to three times the
1538s EXP amount for anything you craft now I
1540s know there's some people out there being
1541s like well I already crafted so many
1542s things what about that we're going to
1544s reset those bonuses for all players when
1547s we release this update so
1549s um everything's gonna get reset you'll
1550s get uh if you've already crafted
1552s something you can go back and get your
1553s first time craft bonus again it's going
1555s to be worth 3x yep and so that's going
1557s to be huge
1558s and then we've got some other changes uh
1560s coming as well so Tony tell us what's
1562s coming for Arcana in cooking yeah so we
1564s took a big look actually uh kind of
1567s across the board and we noticed there
1568s were a few things one with Arcana we
1570s felt like when you would combine moats
1572s it just wasn't it didn't feel rewarding
1574s the XP was super low so we went through
1577s and actually moved all those up a tier
1578s so those feel a lot better now and then
1580s cooking was another one where you would
1582s go in and you would just make a whole
1584s bunch of basic meals and that's how you
1585s would level it and there's like all this
1587s really interesting cool food to craft
1589s and there was no point in crafting it
1590s when you were leveling at least so we
1593s went through and redid the XP leveling
1595s structure for all of that so if when you
1597s go through leveling cooking now it's
1599s going to make more sense to go through
1600s and actually level all of the individual
1602s meals then just make a whole bunch of
1603s basic meals so it feels a lot better to
1605s interact with us did you reset
1606s everyone's cooking to zero so they can
1607s do it again absolutely no no no no but
1611s everyone's going to get their bonuses
1612s though too on top of that so we like
1614s cooking is actually going to be pretty
1616s fun to go through and hopefully you get
1617s a little bit more of that fantasy
1619s fulfillment of like you're actually
1620s cooking you're learning like you're
1622s learning different recipes yeah you're
1624s not just sophisticated menu meals
1626s instead of buckets of slop yes yeah yes
1628s the 3 000 meals just a level yeah uh so
1632s I'm really excited about those changes
1634s and then for control
1636s um we're introducing uh the ability for
1639s bags and tools yes uh to support scarabs
1642s and stop watches so this is basically
1644s going to give uh Crafters who want to
1646s craft bags and tools just absolute
1647s control over the outcome of the craft
1650s pretty much you're still going to have a
1652s little bit of a window of like what's
1653s that final gear score going to be but
1655s locking in all the perks and and
1657s everything else is going to be really
1658s really tight on those items yeah I think
1661s that the the additional control there
1662s will go a very long way
1664s um I'll be interested to see if players
1667s lean more towards stop watches or
1669s towards scarabs because I feel like on
1670s tools and bags we really want that 600
1673s for that extra perk the stopwatch may be
1675s the way to go but we'll see and then in
1677s the same topic in terms of control the
1679s other big change that's actually coming
1681s is uh we're no longer when you craft
1684s procedural weapons going to scale the
1686s level requirement so if you make a star
1689s metal sword it's going to be level 40.
1692s so even if you put a bunch of resources
1693s in to crank up the gear score it still
1695s requires level 40. if I think one of the
1697s big points of frustration has been I'm
1700s trying to make a buddy a tanking set so
1701s to speak and I put a bunch of stuff in
1703s it and now it's eight 12 levels above
1705s where you know they're at and then they
1707s can't use it well now they can and
1708s hopefully it'll make the low level
1709s crafting feel a little bit more usable
1712s yeah that's cool I think you you've
1714s skipped on the XP adjustments oh yeah my
1716s pet request my favorite one or did you
1719s oh that's that's coming okay I just want
1721s to make sure we don't miss that okay no
1722s problem yeah we can Circle back on that
1724s one we'll Circle back it was mostly from
1726s the players though right yeah and Scott
1728s the players will love it
1731s I firmly believe this we'll save that
1733s one uh for right after this uh because I
1736s do want to talk about the quality of
1737s life improvements too we're delivering
1738s for crafting
1740s um
1740s uh one big thing when you're bulk
1743s crafting and you have to go back and
1745s reselect the material to that you want
1747s to use each time we're eliminating that
1749s to so the game will now remember the
1752s last material you used when you were
1754s crafting something so you don't have to
1755s uh go back into the drop downs and
1757s reselect everything again if you want to
1759s keep rolling with the same mats so yeah
1761s yeah so that'll be a huge thing that
1764s just
1765s save a lot of clicks when you're when
1766s you're when you're crafting
1768s um and then Tony tell us what's coming
1770s with like ammo and Tool tips and uh an
1774s adjustment to the coins so yeah so there
1776s so ammo is a an interesting one
1780s um personally it would always drive me
1782s absolutely nuts running an ECR and
1784s getting iron arrows and iron bullets and
1785s I'm like what am I getting why why I
1788s don't understand
1790s how many videos have I sent you guys of
1792s like look another iron Arrow oh boy so
1795s uh now uh that's awful scale so
1798s depending on your level and where you're
1799s at you'll get all the way up to Oracle
1800s mammo um and I think that's gonna be
1802s it's just even when I was testing it
1804s locally and I saw it pop up it was just
1806s like oh it feels great it's how it
1808s should be so so that is um that's what's
1811s coming uh for the ammo uh wooden coins
1813s so wooden coins is another one that was
1815s actually a really big point so we have
1818s we got a new dashboard it's gonna get
1820s kind of nerdy but we got a new dashboard
1821s that shows us how much stuff is coming
1822s in and how much stuff is just not being
1824s used and wooden coins was so far up
1826s there it was just like a huge alarm so
1829s to speak and so what we're going to do
1831s for the short term is wooden coins can
1833s be used now to make charcoal you'll get
1835s an accelerated radar Circle and you'll
1837s actually be able to do something with
1838s these coins that yeah they're just
1840s sitting everywhere so why not just Chuck
1842s them and Burn yeah you can I mean you
1843s use them for your heart runes primarily
1845s you do but there's just so many of them
1846s you always need charcoal too you do yeah
1848s after crafting and so if we you can get
1850s you know wooden coins to at least be
1851s somewhere near basic wood that would be
1854s great and then we're going to do some
1855s more uh movement on those things down
1857s the road to see what else we can use for
1859s you know utilization whatnot so that's
1860s that's on the wooden coin side and then
1862s what was the tool tips oh tool tips yeah
1864s so tooltips is another one
1867s um I feel like when you play the game
1869s and you get some resources sometimes
1872s things seem maybe super valuable maybe
1874s they're not or you don't know where to
1875s go get more of them and so you either
1876s have to like go hit up you know a
1878s website or whatever and so what we're
1880s doing is we're looking at adjusting the
1882s tool tips to get their locations and
1885s where you can find these things right
1886s and so like if you were to see tarragon
1889s for example and you're like well I don't
1890s know where to get that and right now
1892s it's you know reekwater and brimstone
1893s but now you can just look at the tool
1895s tip and you're like oh this where I need
1896s to go and now I can go get more it
1897s should help for better it just makes it
1898s easier right because you're like recipe
1899s hunting I have three of these things do
1901s I use them or do I not now at least you
1903s know where you can go find some more of
1904s them so yeah should help I like that
1906s yeah yeah okay and then we've got couple
1910s other uh features so we're not stopping
1913s there for what it's worth in season one
1914s but we have some other things planned
1915s for season two yes
1917s um we are going to be making some
1920s fishing improvements that we're going to
1921s be landing in season two generally about
1923s like usability of the materials and and
1925s a little bit of the loot that comes from
1927s fishing yep um but then also on the XP
1930s gains we're still gonna we still want to
1932s find some other ways we can push that a
1933s bit further yes uh mostly uh relying on
1937s the quality of the materials that you
1938s used should I mean logically help get
1942s you a little bit better gains yes
1943s through uh crafting and stuff so we're
1945s going to be introducing
1947s even more ways to help players like
1950s really get to a level 150 uh a lot more
1953s smoother than they can too in in trade
1955s skills
1956s um
1957s and the three times craft bonus should
1959s help a lot but then we're also going to
1960s continue to to improve that a bit too
1962s for season two but let's just kind of
1965s explain this one a little bit because uh
1966s yeah when you're this is this one gets
1969s me and I

1971s don't pushing for it
1973s currently when you are crafting let's
1975s say an oraclecomm ax right I can change
1978s all my secondary materials from layered
1981s leather all the way down to um to coarse
1983s leather and there and then there's no
1985s penalty for that on the right things I'd
1988s rather get a bonus for it or I could go
1990s at lower levels if I want to use higher
1992s end materials give me more experience
1994s and make it reward for me so we can turn
1996s all of these things into bonuses to make
1999s you actually think about the materials
2002s you're using and fulfill that feeling or
2003s that emotion you get to be in a crafter
2005s because right now I feel like I'm being
2006s dirty right you know yeah it's like I'm
2009s cheap because if you're just bulk
2010s crafting to level right then it's um and
2012s you're hoping for a good role uh I mean
2015s yeah adding those materials helps you
2016s get a tighter gear score range but
2020s as a as a crafting fantasy right you're
2022s like oh I'm using runic leather and all
2024s those cool things and it's like I should
2026s be learning more you should be yeah
2027s absolutely you're more masterful um I
2029s think the other side of that one too
2030s right is even when you're done leveling
2032s and you're you know you're doing you're
2034s you're using your asthma or your runic
2036s or whatever now you're getting more
2037s experience towards aptitude and I think
2039s that's a huge win yeah that's gonna be
2040s big too because it is fun rolling that
2042s it is yeah yeah so yeah even that's a
2044s that's a great call Tony so even when
2046s you're capped too it's still going to be
2047s a lot there's still a point so in season
2048s two like this is still takes a little
2051s bit more balance and work on our end but
2053s uh that's a big change that we are
2055s working on for season two well we're
2056s hoping for season two we're not we're
2058s not committing yet right unless you are
2060s no yeah I like I like a soft commit on
2062s it but but no it is it is a high
2064s priority for us and we are working on it
2066s cool yeah
2067s um so that's our balance changes um it's
2069s a lot and I
2071s Dave touched on this on his section we
2074s we want to be a lot more active
2075s especially on the combat ballot changes
2077s and have you know make sure we're
2079s pushing that meta around I'm really

2102s you know before we went we gave you the
2103s high level on the roadmap this time
2105s we're going to go super deep I do have
2107s to give uh the the software development
2109s disclaimer that says this is a road map
2111s uh not a guarantee so these are what we
2114s believe we're going to build and we feel
2115s pretty confident but we like to leave
2117s you know like you might come in with
2119s suggestions or we might learn something
2121s and make some changes but overall our
2122s schedule shows this to be true uh I'm
2125s not going to spend a lot of time on
2126s fellowship and fire we've talked about
2128s that for this whole session so let's
2129s just start with the summer season two
2132s as you can see hopefully 11 is properly
2135s sharing the road map on the screen
2137s somewhere
2138s um I'm going to call out some of my
2140s favorites I'm I'm personally most
2142s excited for transmog I think uh
2145s we have so much cool gear in the game
2147s and I don't know about everyone there
2148s but I got on the Fresh Start server and
2151s everything that I liked going back to
2153s the beach apparel is now in different
2154s storages and I'm saving it all for this
2156s uh I don't know what do you all think
2160s I was gonna say there's so much gear
2162s like across the whole game I think we
2163s have like seven or eight hundred outfits
2166s at this point and a ton of outfits that
2168s that you just sort of pass by quickly
2170s and now you can you can show that stuff
2172s off you can express yourself a little
2173s more I'm just imagining Scott expressing
2176s himself with that brown dress that you
2177s get when you just come off the Shipwreck

2183s uh how about another like cool one is
2186s the seasonal trial 10 person event uh so
2189s we talked we talked a little bit about
2191s how we want to expand seasons over time
2193s and uh the seasonal trial is our first
2196s new feature that we're adding in season
2197s two and we'll continue to add new
2199s features it's a huge PVE battle it's a
2202s 10 person it's going to be using our new
2204s raid system which I think is very
2206s exciting so uh it's a it's a boss battle
2209s with some waves beforehand and I think
2211s people are really going to enjoy it
2213s yeah and this is something you may see
2215s another one down in the future
2218s how about the uh sand worm Elite trial
2220s uh you know I love the the sort of hints
2223s we sprinkled maybe maybe bigger than
2225s hints in Brimstone right the big
2227s sandwich
2229s and then the quest at the end but you
2231s know you're finally going to get a
2232s chance to uh fight the sand worm and as
2235s we've talked about this is one that
2236s we're gonna tune to make really really
2238s hard I want this to be sort of like our
2241s highest end PVE content we've talked
2243s about like you know we this should
2245s people should struggle to beat this and
2248s it should not be something they can do
2249s on day one
2251s yeah I think uh you know people tend to
2253s get frustrated with some things but I
2254s think the reward the the
2257s it feels really good when it's taken you
2259s multiple tries and to overcome it and to
2261s figure out the right strategy
2263s and and these two things are are where
2265s we start stepping toward that raid
2266s content in the game and we want to get
2268s like really good at making that content
2271s I feel like we do a good job on our
2272s Expeditions with the five player now
2274s let's just up that to more and more
2276s players and make the rewards come along
2278s to match yeah
2279s other call outs a new heart Rune every
2282s season I think is is really fun and
2284s that's going to give you a way to change
2285s up your gameplay
2286s I'm really excited for cross World
2288s Outpost rush we talked about that
2289s earlier I think that's going to change
2291s the game and it's going to give you more
2293s opportunities to play Outpost Rush yeah
2295s it's going to make your world feel like
2297s it's your home and you can always play
2299s that mode so I think that's going to be
2301s really cool and then I you know I
2303s mentioned this earlier but we the more
2304s of seasonal events and those those
2306s monthly changes to the world make the
2308s world feel more alive and dynamic and it
2309s just varies gameplay
2311s all right so that takes us to fall where
2314s things start to get pretty interesting
2315s not only are we releasing a season three
2318s but drum roll please
2320s we're announcing an expansion right now
2324s um this is a big expansion for the game
2326s uh we're gonna have a new story
2328s we're going to have a Zone completely
2331s transformed into a new Zone with new
2333s enemies new new biomes new it's going to
2337s be completely different
2340s um we're gonna have a new Expedition
2343s pause I'm trying to pause
2346s um mounts are coming like
2349s it's going to be a blast I cannot wait
2352s to get mounts out there we have a new
2354s weapon coming out and a new heart run
2356s like this is this is going to be uh this
2359s is going to be a big deal for us
2360s absolutely it's a moment for the game
2362s and I think I love that it all comes
2364s together to create this really cool
2365s experience it's a dynamic world it's
2367s changing it tells the story of the world
2370s that tells the story of our enemies it's
2372s very exciting yeah and the our team is
2374s uh they're not taking this challenge
2376s lightly it's going to feel very
2378s different and sort of new to the game
2380s which is exciting yeah we don't want to
2383s talk too much about it right now we're
2384s focusing on you know the message around
2385s our early Seasons but
2387s we're really like the team is pretty
2390s excited about this if you can't tell
2392s um all right
2394s and I don't want this to be like to go
2395s down but this ends on season four where
2397s I think we have a couple big things
2399s coming in I think the season trinket is
2401s is a big one if you want to talk about
2402s that Dave yeah so season trials and the
2405s season trinkets like so we're gonna take
2407s the trials that we introduced in season
2409s two and in season four we're gonna add
2411s mutators still and the Secret Sauce here
2413s is the trinket which is this new item
2415s that we're going to add it's sort of
2416s like a quasi-reset each season that you
2418s power up and you use those powers to
2420s sort of combat the seasonal affixes and
2422s challenges we throw at you so those two
2424s features are going to tie it in together
2426s and we hope create a pretty cool loop
2427s for players yeah and while I'm excited
2430s about all this another one that jumps
2431s out to me is the seasonal territory
2432s control I think that's going to be
2434s and that's gonna be really interesting
2436s absolutely
2438s um so there's the roadmap
