External link →Any plans on doing something more unique with Ornament Kits?
You currently have a transmogrification system in OSRS via Ornament Kits. Most of these kits are obtained through Treasure Trail rewards but they could have a far greater potential.
As we are progressing in PvM, the only way we are currently incentivizing players to do the content is by creating a higher GP/hr since adding uniques generally translates to power creep.
Currently, the general consensus does not want there to be more power creep and in the same breathe we need to do something about the constant GP/hr rise in PvM as more content is released.
My proposition is to introduce NEW Ornament Kits as a unique, untradable, reward to players that have gone above and beyond in specific PvM and PvP content.
A way to implement this for PvM would be via the Kill Count (KC) mechanic we have in OSRS. Currently, there is a KC progression reward system after completing the “Wanted!” quest, where players get KC and progressively unlock new pieces of White Equipment per tier of KC required. However, this isn’t the first time that this kind of KC progression system being used, you can see it being applied for Chompy Bird kills in which where players are rewarded with a cosmetic headdress per tier of kills.
Implementing this KC system for each boss to provide a transmogrification/Ornament Kit for iconic pieces of PvM equipment would provide a lot of incentive for players to go back and do content that isn’t as efficient GP/hr as the current best.
On the other hand, you could create PvP ornament kits as well in order to change the look of certain popular PvP items. Implementing a seasonal and overall leaderboard to track kills or bounty kills to reward the top 5-10% of participants new and unique ornament kits for various slots of equipment. Even participation in the Deadman Finals could reward finale attendees a unique cosmetic change to one piece of equipment in order to show off their Deadman accomplishment.
Furthermore, in regards to Deadman Mode, you can see a similar system is seen in the Diablo franchise, more specifically Diablo 3: Where at the end of each season they reward the players who participated in the season one or two pieces of cosmetic armor transmogrifications that progressively builds towards a complete set.
Something similar could be applied to Deadman Mode in order to give players a reward for making it into the finals, even if they didn’t take home a cash prize.
Will do my best to get this question in, but for what it's worth, please try to provide a TLDR in the future as this is more time than we can afford asking a single question
Apologies, I’ll keep that in mind for the future. I just wanted to lay out my entire thought process behind the question; unfortunately it turned into a giant wall of text.
If needed, I can still provide a TLDR if you would like?
Na dw, I really like the question so I'm up for spending the time on it
