| 359s | new mid tier boss introduced into the |
| 362s | game scarus the Rat King I think we're |
| 365s | going to have some visuals coming up now |
| 368s | just in case anyone hasn't seen it I'd |
| 370s | be surprised if you haven't seen it it's |
| 372s | been everywhere on socials lately |
| 373s | popping off because uh man and daong |
| 376s | have done a fantastic job designing this |
| 378s | boss uh so before we get into that uh |
| 382s | let's just go around uh have a little |
| 384s | have a little check in from you guys how |
| 386s | you doing uh M how's it going well |
| 390s | one hello um going really really good um |
| 394s | launch on Wednesday went great and today |
| 396s | we found out everything past the poll as |
| 398s | well so just over the moon with how |
| 400s | things are going 2024 is going to be a |

| 404s | year very positive outli I'm loving it m |
| 407s | I'm loving that hopefully that will |
| 408s | continue throughout 2024 but I think |
| 410s | we're all in the same boat but hopefully |
| 413s | it doesn't let me down daong how you |
| 415s | doing how you feeling hello yes very |
| 418s | good yes very excited for the release of |
| 420s | Scaris yes and I hope everyone already |
| 423s | had a good time hunting down the |
| 425s | right hell yes indeed I hope you did |
| 429s | have a good time hunting down the rat uh |
| 431s | for those of you who don't know we'll |
| 432s | give you a bit of insight onto scarious |
| 434s | was a game pan project that I worked on |
| 438s | uh I think it was one of the apart from |
| 440s | the TCG that I work on every every game |
| 443s | Jam I think this is my other big one uh |
| 445s | alongside mod scrub Halo hend ske and TI |
| 449s | play uh so for me personally seeing the |
| 452s | rap boss idea make its debut in game is |
| 455s | like honestly it's just Priceless and |
| 457s | it's you know you guys still achieve the |
| 459s | core mechanic of teaching new players |
| 462s | the key bits of information they're |
| 463s | going to need going into grasp the |
| 466s | fundamentals into pvm mechanics um and |
| 469s | as we've seen it's not just the |
| 471s | mid-level players that we were targeting |
| 473s | it also seasoned maxed combat players as |
| 475s | well just for the enjoyment of slaying |
| 477s | the big rat king himself um so before we |
| 481s | dive into the Q&A let's check in with |
| 484s | our guests and see how they think the |
| 487s | launch went on a scale of 1 to 10 we'll |
| 489s | start with you |
| 491s | daong how did it go how excited are you |
| 494s | a big 10 okay okay that's big yeah yeah |
| 497s | very exciting and I'm very happy to see |
| 499s | a lot of positive feedback from the |
| 500s | player especially people enjoy the gam |
| 502s | playay of it yeah very happy for that |
| 506s | awesome awesome stuff all right and M |
| 508s | yourself out of 10 what was |
| 510s | saying i' I'd honestly say it was yeah |
| 513s | probably a 10 as well um Community going |
| 515s | on Reddit and just seeing everyone |
| 517s | everyone so positive and helping each |
| 518s | other out and yeah it was just awesome |
| 520s | to see it was a really good launch I |
| 522s | think big big agree it's been amazing |
| 526s | I'd say a 10 I had like skepticism just |
| 529s | because you know it's mid-level content |
| 530s | and I know it's not aimed for high level |
| 532s | players but the fact that so many of you |
| 534s | were embracing it and helping the noobs |
| 536s | out with their combat joining in our |
| 538s | masses on the world has been beautiful |
| 540s | to see um so let's have a quick look at |
| 544s | Scar's history uh this boss has gone |
| 547s | through quite a few different iterations |
| 550s | on its journey into old school um I'm |
| 552s | going to give a little shout out to mod |
| 554s | sofan because she was the one who |
| 556s | inspired sort of the direction we went |
| 558s | in our game Jam pitch with her original |
| 560s | idea on the rap boss involved in the |
| 563s | wilderness and we sort of took that |
| 564s | inspiration and ran with it in our own |
| 567s | sort of way uh so let's have a look back |
| 569s | at the original designs |
| 571s | from the OG concept from the game Jam |
| 574s | project which was my doing and I think |
| 576s | spawned rack Cannon which I'm quite |
| 578s | proud of there there there he is in his |
| 581s | in all the Flesh and the |
| 584s | glory um that was like a five minute job |
| 587s | on Photoshop compared to this beautiful |
| 589s | piece of artwork which was uh done by |
| 591s | mod ske uh that's working on the concept |
| 594s | art and then mod hend came in to do the |
| 596s | actual model itself so this model was |
| 598s | unrigged that's why it looks a bit like |
| 600s | a cross if we can go to the next |
| 602s | there but uh the whole point was them |
| 605s | come together and and merge as one uh |
| 608s | and as a cheeky bit of extra mod jerve |
| 611s | did a concept for a rat gun as you can |
| 616s | see here beautiful piece of artwork this |
| 618s | is not coming to the game I want to |
| 620s | stress this I it is a joke concept all |
| 623s | right so please don't and I can see the |
| 627s | social posts already all right it's just |
| 629s | a joke concept maybe one day in the near |
| 632s | future who knows but for now it's not |
| 634s | coming into the game all right uh so |
| 637s | come quite a long way I would say though |
| 640s | the outcome of the |
| 642s | design the artist himself smashed it |
| 644s | like this this version of the Rat King |
| 647s | is amazing I love the intricate detail |
| 650s | each of you can tell which rats |
| 653s | specialize in what piece and like they |
| 655s | all have their own unique identity and |
| 657s | feeling and it it's great so I don't |
| 659s | know what you guys think of the design |
| 661s | overall me start |
| 663s | you yeah no I think artists did a great |
| 666s | job of making sure everything's clear to |
| 668s | players so they can learn it very easily |
| 671s | and understand what's happening |
| 673s | throughout the fight I think that's |
| 674s | really important for you know all bosses |
| 675s | so yeah they did a great job with it |
| 678s | here yeah great and daong you feel feel |
| 681s | the same or yeah definitely credit to |
| 684s | our team to get awesome animation we |
| 687s | have effects there to help player to |
| 689s | read action of the boss and also credit |
| 693s | to the sound team to create this awesome |
| 694s | soundtrack for the boss |
| 697s | fight oh yeah I'm not going to lie it's |
| 699s | the first time I've turned on music in |
| 700s | quite a while when I was slaying |
| 703s | scarious on uh on Wednesday so that was |
| 705s | that was a good time so before we get |
| 708s | into uh the big Q&A let's go from the |

| 820s | I've been checking the wiki and for some |
| 822s | reason it's it's missing a bit of trivia |
| 825s | um related to the pet so maybe someone |
| 828s | that has the pet can help help out the |
| 829s | wiki with that one missing piece who |

| 835s | see but it's not it's not the weapon |
| 838s | it's not the cannon telling do that okay |

| 859s | how did you come up with the idea of the |
| 860s | rap boss was the inspiration from behind |
| 862s | the rat theme uh again big shout out to |
| 864s | mods uh mod sofen with her original |
| 867s | pitch for the rap boss in the world that |
| 869s | was going to teach you PVP mechanics |
| 871s | took that and sort of implemented it |
| 872s | into our own Direction thought It just |
| 874s | fits so well with Noobs and learning the |
| 877s | game and like you know you fight rats |
| 879s | when you've come into the first game or |
| 880s | to tour Islands it's only fitting to |
| 882s | learn more mechanics you fight some more |
| 883s | rats a bigger meaner heftier rat or |
| 887s | three of them uh so yeah we took that it |
| 890s | was a it was yeah probably my favorite |
| 892s | game Jam pitch I've worked on so far |
| 894s | which was nice so yeah it's good all |
| 898s | right the next question then we have is |
| 900s | does scaras drop any clues if not could |
| 903s | you consider scaras to drop easy or |
| 905s | medium |

| 912s | on yep yeah that's I think it's like yes |
| 915s | we we it haven't dropping any clues for |
| 917s | now but I we hear the feedback that |
| 919s | people want to see some clue and I think |
| 921s | normally our content boss drop one of |

| 926s | we make we do want to make the scarest |
| 928s | to drop them Clues so yeah I think we |

| 942s | make scaras count towards rat Slayer |

| 955s | want to um make you be able to kill |
| 958s | scarus as possible part of a rat Slayer |
| 959s | task might make tyal Slayer a bit more |

| 968s | anyone watching the stream we've got a |

| 982s | to join the private instance or you can |

| 1005s | instance for irn SLG group ironmen and |
| 1009s | will G be able to enter an instance |
| 1012s | together yeah I think we've seen the |
| 1015s | feedback from the group Iron Man player |
| 1018s | you know like that's So currently we're |
| 1019s | looking at the possible solution for |
| 1021s | this so the two solution we're looking |
| 1023s | at is you know we can maybe you can have |
| 1025s | a shared instance for group Iron Man |
| 1028s | player or alternatively maybe we just |
| 1031s | allow the Iron Man player to earn loot |
| 1033s | for the boss when there are other |
| 1034s | players fighting there so you know when |
| 1036s | the group Aron when they fighting there |
| 1039s | they won't need to be worried you know |
| 1040s | if someone jumping into the the fight in |
| 1042s | the middle they don't need to worry that |
| 1044s | they won't get any loose from the fight |
| 1046s | so in that case it will not change the |
| 1048s | person of entering the Boss Arena for |
| 1050s | the iron player but still allow them to |
| 1053s | fighting there without worrying to lose |
| 1055s | the loot there so we still thinking |
| 1057s | about like which solution is better you |
| 1059s | know the the shared instance seem to be |
| 1061s | the one that might take more time for it |
| 1063s | get ready and release and the other one |
| 1065s | might be quicker so yeah I think so we |
| 1067s | hope we can update you with more of this |

| 1101s | not designed as a r or you know other |
| 1103s | difficult endgame content so we think |
| 1105s | it's a bit unfair if the proof Iron Man |

| 1115s | safe Go and Kill the the rat boy with |

| 1182s | Weaponry double check what you've got on |
| 1185s | but it should all respect what what you |
| 1187s | would expect so should be |

| 1358s | Envision difficulty of scaras match the |
| 1360s | outcome once it was lived and if not or |
| 1363s | if so what was the what was the process |

| 1370s | there I think so yet we've done a lot of |
| 1373s | play t during the development of scarus |
| 1376s | with know different comeback level and |
| 1379s | different gear load out so you know just |
| 1381s | want to make sure the difficulty is |
| 1383s | suitable for the midlevel players and |
| 1386s | yeah well so far I've seen a lot of |
| 1388s | players comment about how they learn the |
| 1391s | PVR mechanic from the scar so I think |
| 1393s | looks like we're in the right |
| 1396s | track have just to to say something as |
| 1399s | well I have seen some thread or two |
| 1401s | about people who are struggling um and |
| 1405s | um there there was loads of really |
| 1407s | positive comments saying oh just keypad |
| 1408s | it you'll learn the mechanics and you do |
| 1410s | it and I think um for for anyone who |
| 1412s | thinks oh this is meant to be an easy |
| 1414s | boss don't worry it will be difficult at |
| 1417s | first it always is when you're picking |
| 1419s | up something new right but if you do |
| 1420s | keypad it you'll learn the mechanics the |
| 1422s | mechanics are quite forgiving um and |
| 1424s | they're all kind of like obvious what's |
| 1426s | happening so over time you will learn it |
| 1428s | um and pick it up and then you can apply |
| 1430s | that to all pvm that you do |
| 1433s | do yeah exactly I think to mag's point |
| 1437s | uh just keep adding it just keep at it |
| 1439s | if you're if you're struggling and |
| 1440s | failing keep at it it's a nice casual |
| 1443s | boss you can get back to quickly you can |
| 1445s | just head in you don't need any |
| 1446s | prerequisites you can just head straight |
| 1448s | in there right so you can go at it from |
| 1450s | day one really so if you're struggling |
| 1453s | with the mechanics just take your time |
| 1454s | learn one of them and then master that |
| 1457s | mechanic and go on to the next one and |
| 1459s | then by the time you've mastered like |
| 1461s | you you'll end up eventually mastering |
| 1462s | all the mechanics and the next thing you |
| 1464s | know you'll be uh slapping scaras for |
| 1467s | like quick kills and some nice chill uh |
| 1469s | chill time so you know keep at it and |
| 1472s | for anyone I've seen I have seen a few |
| 1474s | Freds as well on the same note for some |
| 1477s | high level players commenting that this |
| 1480s | is uh like like M said why people |
| 1483s | struggling and that why are they doing |
| 1484s | this leave them alone let them be bro |
| 1487s | let them enjoy the game it's a good boss |
| 1490s | you know and you know I I see a lot of |
| 1492s | high level players enjoying it as well |
| 1494s | but for those out there who are are |
| 1495s | doubting why we did it this is exactly |
| 1497s | whyz cuz there's going to be players |
| 1499s | that hopefully maybe want to get to |
| 1501s | where you guys are and this might be the |
| 1504s | next step in stone they need so yeah |
| 1506s | leave off that's all I got to |
| 1508s | say um all right the next question then |
| 1512s | is were there any mechanics that were |
| 1513s | scrapped because they made the boss too |
| 1515s | complex for its intended |
| 1519s | difficulty I think I can talk this so |
| 1522s | yeah so we've made a lot of tweaking you |
| 1524s | know throughout the development to make |
| 1527s | the boss feel |
| 1528s | for our target audience and I think it's |
| 1532s | like one of the early design we have for |
| 1534s | the boss is you know to make it have a |
| 1536s | energy shield on the boss you know the |
| 1538s | player need to destroy the shield before |
| 1541s | he can damage the boss well it's |
| 1543s | something think can give some pace for |
| 1546s | the pace feeling for the boss fight but |
| 1548s | then we think you know it's a bit over |
| 1550s | complex for the our target audience you |
| 1553s | know why not just make the Scaris can |
| 1555s | heal himself you know that's more simple |
| 1557s | and straightforward |
| 1561s | is that the same with you m or is there |
| 1562s | any outliers that are the different like |
| 1565s | one key mechanic you had in mind at |
| 1567s | first that completely shifted |
| 1569s | or no I think at the beginning here we |
| 1571s | did uh go over quite a few different |
| 1574s | ideas of potential mechanics but then we |
| 1576s | kind of honed in on what do we want this |
| 1578s | boss to do um how can we best reflect |
| 1581s | like later on pvm in the mechanics that |
| 1584s | we want with this boss to make it as |
| 1586s | good of a representation for you know |
| 1589s | end game content as we can um and just |
| 1592s | kind of yeah went with the ideas that we |
| 1594s | thought would work well be fun because |
| 1596s | it's it's good XP right you want people |
| 1597s | to be able to do it quite a lot um so |
| 1599s | you need to make sure it is a fun fight |
| 1601s | it is to an extent a chill fight as well |
| 1604s | um so yeah I think yeah we just honed in |
| 1607s | on |
| 1609s | those awesome stuff I I will say he is |
| 1612s | stacked down there with the amount of |
| 1614s | food he's got like that that that boy is |
| 1616s | eating better than I am I will say like |

| 3069s | so I think it is unfortunately more of a |

| 3074s | deal but maybe if a newer player asks |

| 3080s | fire Cape do you have any tips maybe |
| 3082s | players can just hint like okay when you |
| 3084s | see it do the animation that's when you |
| 3086s | need to prepare yourself because I think |
| 3089s | um scaras in a way does imitate Jad |
| 3093s | quite well to an extent because when |
| 3095s | it's doing the Mage um uh cast you can |
| 3098s | really clearly see that indication of it |
| 3101s | it turns blue and then it does the |
| 3103s | projectile so you can almost predict it |
| 3107s | instantly uh which is what you can also |
| 3109s | do with Jad you know it depending on the |
| 3111s | animation it does you know which attack |
| 3113s | it's going to do so similar to scus if |
| 3116s | it turns blue you know it's going to be |
| 3117s | Mage if it doesn't turn blue and it's on |
| 3119s | the right phase it's going to it's going |
| 3120s | to range you most likely so you can |
| 3122s | really predict it and work it out like |
| 3124s | that and hopefully players can learn |
| 3125s | that from scaras and take that to Jad |
| 3128s | and think okay when he does this |
| 3130s | movement he'll be doing this attack and |
| 3132s | yeah hopefully that will help help them |
| 3135s | out I think one of the most things that |
| 3139s | one of the best things that scaras |
| 3140s | teaches but it probably not picked up by |
| 3143s | so many players I've just seen it in |
| 3144s | chat actually funny enough |
| 3146s | as I said that but the |
| 3149s | sounds the sound of the the Mage attack |
| 3151s | and the sound of the range attack are |
| 3153s | very distinctive and is the same with |
| 3155s | Jad if you are struggling with Jad and |
| 3157s | you haven't got sound on turn your sound |
| 3159s | on it will help so much because you'll |
| 3162s | get used to knowing which sound Goes For |
| 3165s | What and the other and like Jad has the |
| 3166s | poses as well but that sound cues are |
| 3169s | really really nice especially you know |
| 3171s | if you're on constant KC with uh scaras |
| 3174s | just listening for that sound out if |
| 3176s | you're sort of half paying attention can |
| 3178s | can mean the difference between some |
| 3180s | damage or not so it's very just very |
| 3183s | well designed good job guys just great |
