I've created a jagex account and ive recovered my character but cant launch runlite and login. Do I just have to open runelite via the jagex launcher now???

Once you've upgraded to a Jagex account, you need to use the Jagex Launcher to log in - trying to log into RuneLite on their standalone client won't work. To pick RuneLite in the Jagex Launcher, choose the OldSchool tab and then select "RuneLite" from the "Client" drop down menu.
The Jagex Launcher should automatically detect RuneLite installed - if not, you might need to uninstall and reinstall RuneLite in order to select it.
