Why was the Grand Finals bracket randomised?
When we announced the tournament we mentioned in the T&Cs that we'd be randomising each qualifier as well as the Grand Finals, and there's a few reasons why...
- We don't have a way to measure skill in OSRS (there's no ELO system) and therefore, randomising the qualifying brackets for each region seemed to be the fairest approach to the competition to ensure no favouritism
- Because the brackets were randomised in the qualifying rounds we decided, in order to keep the competition consistent and again dispel any favouritism, we would also randomise the grand finals bracket to again.
- In order to qualify for the Grand Final, you needed to reach the final eight as outlined in the T&Cs and that's it. The remainder of the competition in each regional qualifier was for “bragging rights” only, so there was no reason to seed competitors based on this.
We did offer the competitors a change to a seeded bracket, however it required unanimous agreement. Next time, if there's no ELO system in place, we'll still try to incorporate a seeded system.
