Hey folks, we've had a few reports about this but haven't been able to figure out what's going on, or if its something on our end or the individual's PC for whatever reason.

Its interesting /u/GorudenNeko that you say its been happening for years. If you, or anyone else could PM me reproduction steps (to the level of detail... 1) Click my bookmark tab for https://www.runescape.com/community 2) Press Account etc. etc. ) we would very much appreciate it. Also helpful if you could mention when it first started because the first I heard was ~a few weeks ago.

Why not always use english? And add the translated part after the english version when suitable.

Like this:

Text in english

Same text translated if required

Because that would be terrible.

Hey all. I'm going to tag everyone that had mentioned having this issue in this thread. Here are some ways this could happen:

- Your browser language is set to another language

- You might be accessing our websites through a VPN location that uses that language

- You might have at some point clicked a RuneScape link from that language which saves that option as default

If it's none of the above it's likely something on our side, and we need you guys to give us more details so we can investigate further.

Currently, the most likely solution to fix it is adding ?set_lang=0 at the end of any url like so: https://www.runescape.com/community?set_lang=0. This is the same thing as changing your language in the bottom of the page in the language flag icons. You should only need to do this once and it will save the setting.

If that doesn't work, try checking what language you have in your browser. Here are some guides for different browsers we support: Google Chrome (near the bottom), Mozilla Firefox (center of page), and Microsoft Edge (couldn't find official MS link).

Like I said, if neither solution above fixes it, it means it's likely on our side and we need more specific details from you to understand what's causing it.

A couple of questions that could help us finding the cause (feel free to not answer any):

  1. What browser do you use?
  2. What language is that browser on?
  3. Does the problem happen in other browsers in the same computer too?
  4. What operating system do you use?
  5. What language is that OS on?
  6. Do you use a VPN? If yes, can you provide more details it?

  1. Chrome

  2. English but I think I have Spanish saved as my "do not auto translate" or whatever

  3. Don't have any other browsers atm. Will try again in a bit

  4. Windows 7

  5. Only English

  6. No

I have definitely clicked on the Spanish website at some point but i am sure I switched it back

Thanks! I wonder if it has something to do with Spanish being saved as second language - this is useful feedback.

It is weird because sometimes I can go to the RuneScape main page it will be in English, but then when I log into my account page it will be in Spanish. I can experiment more when I get out of work.

When you say RuneScape main page, do you mean OSRS page?

Since we don't have translations for OSRS, what can be happening is that your runescape.com is in Spanish (which is where you are redirected to for logins), but your oldschool.runescape.com is in English.

So the process would be: OSRS (English) -> Login redirect to RS (Spanish) -> redirect back to OSRS (English)

If you have time, try setting your language on the main website to English, and see if you can still reproduce. We've tried but cannot fully reproduce this in here :(

No I am just referring to the RS3 main page and the Account Security page where you see messages and account status. I know the OSRS page doesn't have translations and is always in English. However, I will try to verify the problem in a few hours.

Gotcha. Let us know how it goes

Hey, I tried messing with stuff again and I wasn't able to replicate the problem either. I'll let you know if it comes up again

Well great then! Sad, because we missed out on potentially more data to fix it, but great!

  1. Chrome primarily, but the problem has occurred on both Firefox and IE as well
  2. English
  3. Yes, see #1
  4. Both Windows 10 and Mac OS
  5. English
  6. No

Darn (because that includes our testing platforms/environments). Can you replicate it every time? Did my solutions above fix it temporarily or permanently?

It seems that I am able to replicate it --- at least on Chrome on both my Mac and Android devices --- if I clear cookies. Manually setting the language to English does work, but (as best as I can recall) I also believe the language setting reverts back to Spanish if a significant amount of time passes since my last visit to the website. For example, I only recently started playing again, but I tended to check the website every 2-3 months (#nostalgia), and the website was almost always in Spanish (I don't clear cookies that often, so I don't suspect that would be the cause).

Also, I just attempted to replicate this on Safari and Firefox (on my Mac) and was unable to. I will attempt to replicate on IE and Firefox (Windows) once I'm back at my desktop.

One last thing: I'm noticing at the moment that only part of the page is in Spanish. For example, "continue to website" in the top right and "play now" in the top center and bottom center are in Spanish, while the actual body of the splash page (everything between "The world's most popular free-to-play MMORPG", and the bottom play now button) is in English. I can confirm that this isn't usually the case --- in my experience, the whole page has been in Spanish, but for some reason when I am replicating it now, this is what I see.

Hopefully some of this is helpful. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help out!

Well, that's pretty darn weird. Thanks for the feedback, we'll try to replicate that here! Let me know if you can do the same in Safari/Firefox
