Unfortunately, we're keeping the Beta Worlds offline until next week, at the earliest Monday, 25th September. Our biggest concern with rushing into relaunching the worlds doesn't just mean we aren't doing our due diligence but also means we have a full week of monitoring, rather than going into a weekend, out of working hours.

To give you some further clarity, we want to be extremely cautious around systems slightly external to the worlds themselves, such as Bonds, Group Ironman Storage and Hardcore Deaths and how they interact with Beta Worlds. We fully believe that the interactions have in fact all been perfectly safe, but are acting out of an abundance of caution to be absolutely sure of it.

The first thing we do not want to risk with these new worlds is the safety and integrity of your main game accounts, as these worlds are there to be fully removed from interacting with them, outside of copying your stats, items and more.

This does mean the team can continue the focus and attention to the feedback we saw within the first two hours of the Beta Worlds launch and keep that consistent once the Beta Worlds resume. Like the previous instances of delays with the Mobile TLI and Beta Worlds, the team are saddened by the eventual outcome of closing the worlds, but strongly feels it is the right decision.

We appreciate Beta Worlds as a whole has been a rocky road, but we fully believe that once these Beta Worlds are healthy and ready to launch again will be in a great place. This has meant that with all the challenges we've encountered and solved with this project, all of the core Beta Worlds infrastructure will be something that is put into all future Betas.

We will look to update you next week when we are in a more comfortable position to confirm what time the Beta Worlds will open again. We thoroughly appreciate your patience over this project and we hope to have some good news to share with you on Monday. Thank you.

but we can still use that method if it's situationally preferable

i dont have access to the client's code but from what gecko wrote, it seems like they chose to use the beta worlds instead of the app store beta for the client, not that they can't use.

To add some context, it's correct that no, we can't use the app store-like beta, for this. While it is in a sense stuff on the client, it's the game's "content" - the stuff that's interpreted by the software, as opposed to the software itself. In the same way that if we wanted to add a sound that plays when you click on a specific button, that'd be part of the game's content, rather than the app itself, despite the fact it'd be something happening exclusively on the client.

I know that from the outside the differences and the reasons that we can't run a beta in the ways old mobile betas were done may not be especially clear, but that is unfortunately the case.

Exactly - they could have an option in the settings menu or even on the login screen to opt in to the mobile redesign beta. It seems totally client side, I don’t see how it requires separate servers.

Then again, I don’t know the code base - there might be no good way to do this.

I’d like to see whether they considered it and if so why they decided with the current approach.

We had considered it, and unfortunately no it wasn't possible to run it in a different way like you describe, since the UI is a part of the game's "content". I've gone into a little more detail about this in another reply in this same chain of replies, if it's of interest.
