s break familiar with the game and ready
s to jump right in first things first what
s is old school runescape old school
s runescape
s is a revival of an early version of
s runescape one of the world's longest
s standing and the moe RPGs the game is
s set in the world of Gielinor
s a fantasy world filled with adventurers
s wizards monsters to kill skills the

s quests and master the combat system
s building up your account and allowing
s you to take on all old school has to
s offer
s old school was originally launched back
s in February 2013 as an almost exact copy
s of runescape from a 2007 archive of the
s game the simplicity and the solid
s fundamentals which underpin old school
s runescape have brought millions of
s people from around the globe backtick
s Eleanore ready to explore the deep and
s charming world since 2013
s old school has been regularly updated
s all kinds of quality of life changes
s have been added to improve gameplay as
s well as countless pieces of new content
s flushing out the world and giving you
s more to enjoy most recently old school
s has made its way onto mobile devices
s with old schools point-and-click nature
s this almost feels like a match made in
s heaven with that brief overview out of
s the way let's take a closer look at the
s game itself and get you ready to start
s your adventure just before we begin I
s have one important note for any
s returning runescape players your items
s stats and other progress earned in the
s original runescape have not been carried
s over to old school since the day old
s school was released everyone started
s fresh they saw a variety of technical
s reasons but also to ensure the integrity
s of old schools high scores and economy
s you can still use your original Roux
s scape log in to play but you'll start
s from level 3 like everybody else if you
s are having trouble accessing your
s original Roux scape account heads of
s runescape comm and click support in the
s top right from there select the your
s account section where you can find the
s necessary links and information to reset
s your password via email or recover your
s account by proving that you are the
s original owner now with that out of the
s way let's get started once you have
s created your runescape account and have
s logged in you will find yourself on
s tutorial island on tutorial island
s you'll speak with a number of
s who will teach you the very basics of
s how old-school works you'll learn about
s many of these skills in runescape as
s well as combat questing interacting with
s NPCs accessing your in-game bank and
s more along the way you'll unlock and
s learn about each part of the in-game
s interface and that is a sensible place
s to start so let's take a closer look at
s the interface and how you interact with
s the game depending on whether you are
s playing on a mobile or desktop device
s there are a few different ways that your
s interface might be displayed the
s interface currently shown on-screen may
s not perfectly reflect what you see in
s game however it is important to
s understand that the content of the
s interface never really changes it may be
s arranged slightly differently on mobile
s versus desktop or in resizable mode
s versus fixed mode but the same
s fundamental elements are always there so
s what are those fundamental elements old
s schools interface can be broken down
s into four main parts the camera the tabs
s the chat box and the mini-map the camera
s is your view of the game world your
s character is shown in the middle of the
s screen you can rotate the camera by
s dragging your finger across the screen
s on mobile and on desktop you can either
s use the arrow keys or you can hold down
s your middle mouse button and drag you
s can click or tap anywhere in the world
s to walk or to interact with an object or
s NBC long pressing on mobile or
s right-clicking on desktop will show
s additional options the tabs are the
s primary part of the in-game interface
s they contain everything you need to
s access information about the game your
s character and much much more
s the chat box is used to communicate with
s both other players and NPCs and it's
s also where you'll find various bits of
s information provided to you by the game
s the buttons found across the bottom of
s the chat box let you filter out certain
s types of chat there is also a report
s button used to report rule breakers and
s in-game books the mini-map is just that
s a small map which shows you basic
s information about your surrounding area
s including the general layout nearby
s players items on the ground and NPCs
s around the edge of the mini-map you can
s also find orbs which offer quick access
s to a few key bits of information like
s your hit points prayer points run energy
s and special attack energy also around
s the edge of the mini-map you'll find one
s of the most important parts of the
s interface the world map the world map
s can be accessed by clicking or tapping
s on the globe icon just below the
s mini-map and that covers the very basics
s of the in-game interface that is as far
s as I'll be going in this particular
s video but if you're interested in a
s deeper look at every
s a video is linked both on screen and in
s the video description which provides
s just that but for now let's move on to
s some of these fundamentals of all scores
s content and what better place to start
s them with skills old school runescape
s has 23 different skills which you can
s choose to train 15 of which are
s available in the free to play game you
s train skills by using them with the wood
s cutting skill you can train by chopping
s down trees but fire making you train by
s making fires and with Slayer you train
s by slaying certain creatures as you earn
s more experience in a skill you'll level
s up giving you access to new content and
s giving you the ability to do more with
s the skill the maximum level for each
s skill is level 99 but getting there is
s no small feat you need to earn over 13
s million experience to reach level 99
s with the maximum experience rate for
s some skill sitting at less than 100
s thousand experience per hour with 23
s skills there is a great deal of variety
s in what each skill has to offer the
s support skills include agility thieving
s and Slayer agility helps you move around
s the world with ease using shortcuts and
s overcoming obstacles thieving allows you

s lucrative monsters from all around the

s useful ores from rocks all over the game

s the crops the artisan skills help you
s take those resources and turn them into
s something useful
s they include cooking fire making

s ring crafting and construction cooking
s allows you to cook raw meats and create
s food which is typically eaten to heal
s fire making allows you to set logs on
s fire on which food can be cooked
s smithing is used to turn ores into bars
s and bars into weapons and armor
s fletching is used to turn logs into
s arrows and bows crafting allows you to
s create jewelry leather armors and
s various other useful items runecrafting
s is used to create magical runes which
s are used to cast spells and construction
s allows you to create your own house
s which can provide many different
s utilities and benefits and finally we
s have the combat skills hitpoints attack
s strength defense
s magic ranged and prayer hit points is
s the amount of health that you have
s attack improves your melee accuracy and
s allows you to equip better

s and crossbows attacking enemies from a
s distance and prayer is used to give
s temporary bonuses to your combat stats
s or to provide unique utility while
s prayers are active combat is another key
s aspect of old school runescape so let's
s take a closer look at combat and how it
s works if you're interested in a deeper
s look at skilling and some pointers on
s where to get started with each skill see
s the link to skilling introduction video
s in old school runescape combat is
s everywhere almost one third of the
s skills in old school are dedicated to
s combat as well as countless pieces of
s content throughout the game training
s your combat skills allows you to kill a
s vast array of creatures and bosses as
s well as other players in the wilderness
s unlike many other MMORPGs in old school
s runescape you are not limited to a
s particular class you have complete
s freedom to train your combat stats as
s you please you don't have to limit
s yourself to being a wizard a warrior or
s an archer you can train your magic melee
s and ranged stats to your liking and
s enjoy the benefits of each without
s restriction combat in old school is very
s simple select the attack option on an
s NPC and your character will start to
s attack the speed accuracy and potential
s damage of your attacks are determined by
s the equipment that you're wielding your
s combat stats as well as the combat stats
s of your target once your targets health
s reaches zero they die and you claim
s whatever loot they drop if your health
s reaches zero you die and you lose most
s of your items respawning in lumbridge if
s you die to an NPC you might be able to
s make it back in time to retrieve what
s you lost but a more reliable way to keep
s a hold of your items is to not die in
s the first place you can accomplish this
s even in the most challenging of fights
s by eating food to heal hit points or
s simply running away when your hit points
s get low becoming a master of combat is
s no small task but it can be extremely
s lucrative many of the most profitable
s activities in old-school
s are combat based high level bosses
s provide rare and expensive drops and so
s do monsters unlocked by leveling up the
s Slayer skill or content unlocked by
s taking on the one-off bosses during
s quests and that brings us to our next
s topic quests in old school runescape if
s you're interested in some pointers for
s where to start in combat skills please
s check out the link to introduction to

s one of the defining features of
s old-school

s about many of the characters throughout
s the world unlocking new areas equipment
s and other content you can see the full
s list of quests by clicking or tapping on
s the quest tab clicking or tapping on any
s of the quests in the list will detail
s where they can be started and any
s requirements to complete them as you
s start and progress the requests this tab
s will keep track of that progress and if
s you get stuck the quest journals found
s within may help you get back on track
s all quests in old-school offer rewards
s the rewards on offer depend on the quest
s you complete but often include access to
s new areas experienced in a skill or
s unlocking new items many of old schools
s most iconic quests are available in free
s to play when you start a quest you can
s end up facing any number of different
s challenges some will put you up against
s unique monsters or a boss to defeat
s others will have you take on complex
s puzzles some will send you on trips to
s new lands or to foil some evildoers
