Great that you're working with runelite. Would be great to have some of those features on mobile!
Great that you're working with runelite. Would be great to have some of those features on mobile!
Soon they will be!
Going forward we’ll be expanding the test by bringing these features to the mobile version of the game in the near future.
...
Building all of this directly into the game means most of it will be present on mobile too.
Well this is f**king sick.
Isn't it!?
All milestone images are titled Milestone 1.
Ofc besides that, this is great to see!
They're all in the first milestone!
Isn't it!?
Yes
This is actually great news to hear. I will use this opportunity to ask: are there any plans to add, or is it maybe possible to add it to the future milestones list, a mobile portrait mode? Playing on mobile is awkward sometimes, and playing with one hand while out and about or just sitting on your couch would be a great accessibility feature.
Thanks! We recognise the demand for this and have brought this up internally - a mobile portrait mode is not part of the roadmap for now as it doesn't fall into the Enhanced Client work, but we will take note of it for future discussion. We want to improve quality where we can and where it makes sense for us to do so. The current work involved in making a portrait mode is quite significant so not something that fits in with our current plans atm.
Is mouse over tooltips the same as the ground items plugin within runelite, or will that be done in a future phase?
Mouseover tooltips are just what you see in the screenshot with the Lumbridge guide, showing the text that usually appears in the top left of the screen by your mouse. Showing a list of items in a stack on the ground is something further down the line.
Is there any plans to release a MacOS compatible client on steam?
We'll be expanding it to other platforms in future. We will confirm which ones a little later down the line as the project progresses. :)
A very welcome change. Now we need Anti-aliasing and increased view distance, those two alone would be massive changes!
I can confirm, the increased view distance is something we're aiming for in future. :)
I honestly thought you’d be trying to fight against runelite and make your own plug-ins but I’m pleasantly surprised you’re working with them. I think this is a great step from you guys.
These features are being developed entirely by us, but Adam from RuneLite has been very helpful in prioritising which features we work on
I really don't like the way this is going.
The underlying issue with fishing spots stems from them being pretty hard to see by default on various devices. Why not improve that by making the fishing particles themselves stand out more (eg make fish jump out of a whirlpool in the water) so it's clear this is a fishing spot?
I like tile indicators but this is kind of lazy game design
I agree! We've certainly been discussing how RL has solved some elements of bad design and how we don't need to replicate their solution when we can literally change the games assets. Unfortunately no matter how well we solve the problem, players have become accustomed to a specific way things work. Even if we are to change the fishing spots (which could be controversial) I imagine some would still desire the overlays. I have this - along with improvements to rooftop agility signposting - on my to-do list which I plan to take a stab at during our next ideation session :)
Really good start. There are a couple features missing that'd convince me to switch to the Steam client instead of Runelite, but maybe those will show up in the future milestones.
Which features, out of interest?
Two words: ground items
Yes! :D Ground items are on the list of things we'd like to do within this project - we'll be sharing more as it unfolds and as we drop new features.
Hopefully the settings UI doesn't become a clusterduck of all settings and has sorting and perhaps even some icons to help find settings better
It's a big part of why we updated the settings to the new format. Clusterducks are our least favourite type of duck. Apart from Erin from 2014.
i usually only come out to post when jagex f**ks up but i just wanna say this is actually really cool and i appreciate it
I appreciate that :)
See you when we next f*ck up I guess ( *・∀・)ノ゛
Sounds amazing for mobile but unless this has some form of plugin support I don’t think it’ll gain enough traction on PC.
Like you think they’re gonna add the quest helper or the inactivity disconnect remover plugins? These are so insanely good, couldn’t play without them. And if this client doesn’t allow us to manually add plugins, I don’t see any reason to swap over.
Also the speed of updates on the new client is a concern. People put together plugins for runelite in a day for new content, might take jagex weeks or months or never to create the same/similar plugins.
To talk to the last point specifically, it means we can plan and work on new features whilst content is in the works, so they can arrive side-by-side.
holy shit this is actually amazing, I hope they update the mobile client with these new features
Features will be coming to mobile!
I figured there was something client-related in the works, but can't say I expected this much. For some of the features, I am surprised the official versions are so similar to third-party clients and overlays; for things like timers I was expecting them to be better integrated than just floating over the chat. Also, is there an option for the fishing spot indicator without the cyan boxes? Just having the fish icon over the spot may look more natural than the highlight. Either way, with these features being integrated in the game I am sure we'll be able to see a lot more with them in the future and this seems like a great first step/batch.
We considered how they should look and feel, and decided that for the most part it would be best to offer something that players are already familiar with.
They all say milestone 1. Assuming it should be 1-3?
Nope, those are all Milestone 1. We'll talk about Milestones 2 and 3 soon :)
This is awesome. With the changes only being available via the Steam client, do you foresee a lack in testing feedback as most players will continue to use RuneLite? Is there potential for pushing the changes to the standard client so players can test the new in-game features while sunsetting their counterparts in RuneLite?
I don't expect players to rush to this client yet, far from it. Maybe at a later stage when we add the ground items, loot tracking etc.
We will make the C++ client available outside of Steam later down the line too :)
improvements to rooftop agility signposting
This will be a massive improvement for new mobile players, I remember logging in mobile to do some Canafis rooftop agility and realising how hard it would be if I'd never done it before, even knowing where about the click boxes are it's hit and miss.
Indeed! With A Kingdom Divided we’ve added a new agility course and we’ve spent the time to make sure it has good signposting and click-zones. The intention is to do something similar with the rooftop courses so the need for big gaudy overlays is reduced. They can still be used but ideally they won’t be needed :)
Thank you so much! These updates will be so great for mobile players, since we lack access to runelite. I can't wait!
One question, is a boss respawn timer in the considerarion? That would be very useful for places like GWD, especially at Kree'ara (an altar timer would be nice, too)
Yes, boss respawn timers are planned for a future update :)
