This is something that really pisses me off. Imagine this, I am playing ana. My team is 10 miles away from me and pushing into the enemy spawn while I am the only one on point because if they get a co. It's all over. I press the group up button on my hotwheel and I hear "I am on my way'

Like no...I am not going anywhere, just because my team is out of position doesnt mean I have to be too. I need them to come to me. I have the perfect angle for watching over the entire arena and I am not giving that up because my team forgot how to press the down button

And another thing, I am playing as mercy and I just got headshot by a widow at low charge. I have 5 health left and no real cover. I press the I need healing button and "come over to me for healing"

I need healing right now. I am one sleep dart away from dying, a monkey jump could kill me right now, but my team would never know because the game decided I needed something completely different than what I asked for

Seriously, imagine you were trying to combo ults with someone without voice chat. What do you do? You press the ultimate status button, wait for them to press theirs, and press acknowledge so both of you know what the plan is. But at random when you press the button, your character says something along the line of "this is my ult does"

No useful information was passed on. Everyone knows what every ult does, everyone knows to go to the support if you want healing. Except at least with my hypothetical there is still context. People generally dont press ultimate status for no reason

But if you hear "I am on my way" are you going to think "oh dearie me, I appear to be out of position, I should make a quick retreat post haste as to not overextend" or are you going to think "sweet. I should stay right where I am because clearly I am right where I need to be"

If I wanted to say I am on the way. I would have said that I am on the way

The reason the game does this is because you have contextual comms turned on. When this option is turned on, the output voice line changes based on what you're aiming at. So if you're aiming at a teammate when you use the Group Up comm it'll send either "I'm on my way" or "I'm with you" based on how far the teammate is from you. Likewise, the "Come to me for healing" is a contextual voiceline that triggered because you're aiming at a teammate that has lost some health.

It seems in your case, you actually may prefer to turn this option off. It's in your communication settings.

This is correct, thank you! This originally wasn't an option, but it's been in the game for quite some time now and it's defaulted to "Off" because of the frustration the OP is experiencing. It seems that for some people it's somehow set to "On" even with the default being "Off" though, apologies for that.

The exact option can be found under Controls -> Communication -> Ping - Options. It's called "Enable Contextual Comms Wheel". If you use our new search function in Options, just searching for the word "contextual" will find it quickly, since it's the only option with this word in it.
