I have one of my two systems affected with this symptom.

The affected symptom is a ASUS Republic of Gamers G752V Laptop with a GTX965M Video Card and Intel® Core™ i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz. I have linked the DXDiag and MSInfo files here:

The other system is a custom-built desktop with an MSI Motherboard, GTX 1070, and Intel Core i7-6700HQ CPU @ 4.00GHz. I do have those system files available if requested, but I figure just provide the affected system files for now.

Troubleshooting Steps Completed:

  • Ran Scan and Repair on the Overwatch PTR client each time after a failure to launch, on the first repair, the BattleNet launcher installed over 100 megabytes of data in the repair patch. Each additional time there was a minor download afterward.
  • Updated to the latest graphics card driver (NVidia GTX 419.67)
  • Deleted the Overwatch Video and Sound File (Settings_v0.ini) to revert the system performance settings back to default.

The live Overwatch Client is fully functional.

Thanks for contributing additional information to assist us. There is a new PTR update that potentially corrects this issue. Please let us know if you still experience these problems.

Downloading right now. I will update this post if it works.

UPDATE: The PTR client is now successfully working on my system. I will now celebrate with an appropriate victory gif…

Do you by chance run Razer branded devices with Chroma features? If so, have you updated Razer Synapse? I ask this because that is a common symptom with any version of the game on certain systems using Razer Chroma devices.

That being said, your specific issue could still be related to specifically the PTR build, but I figure it is worth checking.

Where do you reside? Can you even start up a Training Range game? If so, please follow these instructions:

WinMTR instructions:

  1. Download WinMTR from https://sourceforge.net/projects/winmtr/files/WinMTR-v092.zip/download (Console players need a Windows Desktop Computer connected to the same network as their console to do this.)
  2. Unzip the WinMTR.zip file to the Desktop.
  3. Open the WinMTR folder and select the 32 or 64 bit version. Choose whichever one corresponds to your version of Windows.
  4. Run the WinMTR.exe
  5. Type the IP address you want to trace in the “Host” field. To get the correct IP you will actually need to open up the game and go Practice Vs AI or Quick Play and if you are on PC hit Ctrl+Shift+N and it will bring up the ingame network diagnostic graph, or go to Video > Options > Display Network Performance Graph if you are on any platform including Console. In the top left corner is the IP address you want to run WinMTR to.

note When looking at the IP it will show up ingame as something like 12.34.56.78:12345. You will want to leave the last 5 digits and the colon at the end off and the IP you want to use is just the 12.34.56.78
  6. Once you notice the connection issue while playing, play for about 6 more minutes, minimize the game and click on “Stop”.
  7. Click on “Copy text to clipboard”, then return to this forum thread.
  8. Type two sets of four squiggly lines and then paste the contents of the WinMTR test between: ~~~~ Paste WinMTR Test Results Here ~~~~

Please note: given the fact that its only the PTR not connecting, I suspect you can’t reach a PTR server. Depending on your region, you may not connect to the same servers as that of the live client.
