I would finally enjoy playing this CRGP. But it's not the price for me. It's this:
From GOG Comments:
The TL;DR is that the game requires you to allow Owlcat Games the ability to download third-party software onto your computer. This external software is permitted to scrape your machine for data, including hardware specs and other installed apps. The data is supposedly anonymized, but is geolocated. The scraped information is then permitted to be used for marketing purposes with any of Owlcat's marketing partners.
That comment is probably related to a single case a few years ago, where in a patch we tried to add a tool that would have the game report its first launch to us so that we'd see the effectiveness of our sales. We directly highlighted that in the patch notes to make sure people are aware, but that caused such an outrage and explosion of negative feedback, that it took us less than one hour to decide to roll that back, and about 8 hours to hotfix it out.
We don't approach any data collection bullsh*t by a mile since then. We can't even make the "N % players have romanced character X"-like posts because we don't have access to that kind of data. Even if it could be useful to actually see some in-game player decision stats for improving the game, it's not worth the risks after that incident.
Our only 'data collection' are surveys and polls, and the saves from bugreports (with logs and PC specs) that you send us when you press ALT+B to report a bug. These are processed entirely in-house by our QA team, with no outside contractors involved. For those who find even that too much, it is possible to opt out of sending these in the game settings menu, or simply not report anything.
