We are happy to announce the first Bastion Smash in PlanetSide 2, a casual event centered around protecting your own carrier(s) and destroying your opponents’ carrier(s). The event will be held on Jaeger (if you have never taken part in a Jaeger event and do not know how it will be accessed, check out this guide) .Unlike on the Live servers, this will be a pure air experience since only air vehicles are allowed, check out the rules for further information. We want to stress that this event is supposed to be incredibly casual, spectacle oriented and intended for all people who want to take part in some serious air carnage (even our beloved tree huggers such as myself).

There will be 2 factions (TR against NC) fighting one another on Hossin for dominance of the skies for around 90 minutes.

What truly makes this event special is a feature that is currently not available on live servers. We will be fielding 3 bastions per team, at the same time. Furthermore, these developer spawned bastions do not have any time restrictions like the outfit-spawned ones and can thus stay on the field until all weakpoints are destroyed.

PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND THE FOLLOWING: The devs have been kind enough to run with this “interesting” idea of ours, but everyone taking part needs to understand that this is completely and entirely experimental. There may be bugs and ridiculous occurrences happening during the smash. Treat this smash like a PTS playtest.

The event will take place on the 25th of april at 7pm UTC/9pm CEST/3pm EST/12pm PST.

Outfit and Solo sign ups will remain open from today until midnight of the 19th of April UTC.

CLARIFICATION: An outfit is signed up by ONE representative of theirs. This means that the participating players of an already signed up outfit DO NOT need to sign themselves up individually.

Solo Sign-Ups

Outfit Sign-Ups

The official rules can be found here (please read those carefully as they also contain crucial information like teamspeak addresses).

Furthermore, please join the official Bastion Smash discord. This is a requirement for outfit representatives and solo sign ups. Read the sign up instructions carefully. Further updates will be shared on Discord, you will also have an opportunity to discuss there.

If you have any more questions, feel free to send a reddit or Discord DM to either Alpha_141#1410 or PaffDaddyTR#3417 / /u/PaffDaddyTR.

Wait is it even possible to bring more than 3 O_O

This will be our first time trying it - it'll actually be 3 Bastions to a side (since we're only fielding 2 factions). Pretty gd excited to try this out...should be a spectacle :)

Basically one bastion per empire per height?

Yes - 3 bastions per Empire, each at the same altitude as their counterpart. First time we’ve tried this so there might be some jank (they absolutely can NOT ram each other) but we’re def excited to give it a go.

Why can they not ram into each other? No collision boxes? I would love to see ramming speeds

Vehicle physics are most definitely not my specialty...I don’t think they’d break the game, but it would definitely not look great.

We’ll get there at some point :)

Just asking, the thing about one shooting bastions with OB is still a thing? I don't see 6 of them lasting alive for a while if that's so.

That’s up to the organizers, but regardless of the rule set, we’re leaning into more fun spectacle over serious competitive event (e.g. if Bastions go down too fast we’ll spawn new ones).

It should be pretty balanced tho.

Please make 100% sure it works before the smash!

Having it break when all the players are ready to play (or already playing) would be horrible.

For sure. It’ll be thoroughly tested and we have every reason to believe it’ll perform (and be rad). But we always want to set expectations when we’re trying something for the first time.
