[2020] is planetside 2 PC worth getting into when the new update drops?

I have been looking at the player numbers on the steam charts and they are not great, but they have gone up in the last 2 months. I read its not cross platform, which really kinda sucks.
I used to play dust 514 and was one of the top 5 players in my class, been looking for a fps game to replace it for years but nothing really matched it in terms of scope and progression.
The new update looks cool with its flying carriers and changes.

Does anyone play on PC who can tell me if its worth getting heavily invested in?
