Hey everyone,

With this weeks dev stream wrapped up, there were a few topics I wanted to discuss that we didn’t mention during the broadcast, as well as some things that have just recently surfaced.

Chinese and Russian Translations

As announced back in March, we began the effort to formally translate PS2 to Chinese and Russian languages. As you can imagine, after nearly 8 years live, there was quite a bit of work required to get all of the text translations updated. The global situation also caused delays to the translation company’s delivery schedule. However, I’m happy to say that we finally published the full CN and RU translations to the public test server for you to check out and provide feedback. Our goal is to get these published to the Live servers as early as mid-next week. We are aware of a few bugs and are in the process of addressing them before next week’s publish, but we would appreciate any additional feedback and /bug reports from native Chinese and Russian speakers on PTS.

Playstation 4 Support

Our ability to support the PS4 version of Planetside 2 over the past several months has been sub-par at best. Even though were able to scale the development team size at the end of last year, the Escalation update required the entire team. Then due to the overwhelming response to Escalation, the effort needed from the entire team has been higher than expected. Originally, our plan was to begin work on porting the Escalation update to PS4 within a month of the PC release. We’ve obviously completely missed that target. By quite a bit.

However, we’ve been able to gain some traction on this front as of yesterday. I’ve been able to confirm a start date for a programmer that we are bringing in specifically to begin work on porting the past few updates (Escalation, Tactical Loadouts, etc) to PS4. He is scheduled to join us on May 11th, though we are trying to expedite it to have him begin working with us as soon as next week. Once work begins, I will share more details on what will be included, timeline, etc.

In-game Comms

We’ve had a lingering bug with voice comms for quite a while that usually could be fixed by toggling vchat on/off. As straight forward as it might seem for us to implement a permenant fix, the team had made multiple attempts over the past several months without any success. It was an irritating bug, but somewhat manageable once you figured out how to work around it. But in the past 2 months, comms in general have gotten much more buggy. Yesterday morning we decided to shift some work around and have our Technical Director (lead programmer) begin troubleshooting. I hope to have some details on progress to share sometime next week. We know that unreliable communication channels in an MMO is NOT ok and need to fix it ASAP.

Upcoming Events

We discussed a bit during the dev stream, but just a reminder that Planetside Battles: Lane Smash started yesterday! We will be hosting each of the PlanetsideBattles Lane Smash broadcasts on the Planetside2 Twitich channel here: https://www.twitch.tv/planetside2

For more information on the Lane Smash match timing, they’ve you can find the full schedule here: https://www.toornament.com/en_US/tournaments/3357765546986831872/matches/schedule

And shortly after we have Outfit Wars Alpha Cycle 2 on May 16th, as well as Community Smash on June 6th...

Anyhow, we had a great time doing the stream this week and hope you enjoyed it too. Stay safe and have a great weekend.

Take care,

Andy
