133s Aquarian rework stream for you um my

139s from poly champs as as gazu and today
143s with me uh is a good friend of all the
147s tribes in the polyopia world Toby
150s welcome to the stream it's good to be
153s back yeah so uh today the intro will be
158s will be much shorter because we have a
160s lot to to cover uh so let's go uh right
164s away
165s to to all the changes that were
169s implemented um so for starters the
173s Aquarian rework beta has emerged from
177s the depths uh so as you as you can see
181s it's not the the actual um update yet uh
185s the the changes are in the in the
188s beta um so if you if you feel like uh
193s trying trying trying out the game uh
196s it's uh it's available uh so the data is
199s available on on Steam right now right
202s Toby absolutely we actually got to play
205s it for a couple hours this morning
206s already mhm yeah but I I don't think
209s they released so like we mijan released
212s it on on mobile for for beta beta test
215s testers right it's it's only on Steam
218s yeah right now it's just exclusively for
220s steam uh for testing purposes yeah so if
223s you feel like uh testing this Aquarian
227s rework uh if you have the game it's it's
231s it's great and uh but if you don't there
234s the game is is uh right now on sale so
237s it's
238s 70% uh
240s off so it's it's a good uh occasion to
245s uh to actually buy uh and dive into to
248s the the
250s game um so um let's go to to the changes
254s so we are going to lay out uh in this
258s post uh in this in in um in the in the
263s order as as follows so the design
266s philosophy new mechanics new units new
268s buildings how to to join the beta and
271s challenge all okay so first of
275s all uh the PA path of the ocean showed
278s us that the game uh game Naval mechanics
282s needed Improvement before we could work
284s on the aquarium uh a naval oriented
287s tribe uh but now it's out of the way and
291s we can uh we can do this rework yeah
294s because the this rework was uh was
297s expected for a very long time right uh
300s Aquarian was kind of you know so like
305s let's let's be let's be like Frank so it
307s was it was pretty much the weakest tribe
309s in uh in polyopia and a lot of players
312s were were complaining that they they are
315s kind of you
318s know something is is is not working
321s there
322s right yeah they uh they've been
325s struggling for a bit they got a
326s temporary uh balance change though with
328s the pass the ocean that gave them uh
331s their writing unit so that helped at
333s least give them a jump start that was
335s necessary then but because of the new
337s changes that they've received in the now
339s that actually put them in a much too
341s powerful position so they're back to
343s their original roots of having no
344s starting Tech yeah and uh so the the
347s first and the most important important
351s change is that that actually the
353s Aquarian people lost legs so now they
356s are all um
358s mermaids uh yeah
361s so we have a we have a mermaid which is
366s the the warrior right and then we have
369s mermaid
371s archers
373s um amphibian stayed as they were but
377s instead of like a warrior with with the
380s legs we have a we have a mermaid sitting
383s on um on this uh
386s Turtle uh Turtle cre creature and um um
390s the same thing with with the
393s Trident um yeah and
397s um
400s um yeah so uh Aquarian units now from
405s like um from the beginning they can they
408s can uh they can move on the water on
411s water so uh at the beginning it's only
414s shell water right and then uh and then
418s uh once the
421s yeah that's correct uh so normally most
423s tribes are able to go into shallow water
425s by picking up the fishing technology
428s barion on the other hand only need to
429s pick up the fishing technology in order
431s to start navigating through the uh
433s through three Open
436s Seas
438s yeah okay um so a new thing is that now
445s actually the Aquarian um Aquarian
449s Terrain rain which used to be like a
451s solid land right now is actually all
454s water so even though it's it looks like
457s a like like it used to look like uh now
462s all Aquarian units because we we'll go
465s uh like we'll cover more of them because
467s there are three new
468s units uh they can actually like Zip
472s through the the aquarium uh land uh like
475s like it's like it's water right mhm
479s that's right
480s and uh what Aquarian needs to um to
486s conquer the uh the lands of other um
490s other uh tribes is is to flood uh flood
494s their lands because um those new units
497s that they that they got they they can't
501s really move on on on land so the
505s flooding is actually
507s very uh very important it's
510s it's a bit like uh like with Polaris
514s when they when they convert the uh the
517s land of of other tribes but it's it's
521s something more because Polaris even
523s though that they uh freeze the land they
527s they can still move around right and
530s they don't need to uh actually freeze so
533s like obviously the the ice is the ice is
536s important but uh but uh ultimately they
539s they can can move on uh on uh on
545s land okay so new
549s units so the first one is
552s shark how do you like sharks Toby tell
556s us about this the statistics and uh uh
559s how do you like them so the Sharks first
562s off they're just adorable little things
564s I think it's a good replacement for the
566s navalon uh it's a dorable little SE
568s Critter that everyone's kind of been
569s missing
570s um but uh this one is basically an
572s overpriced uh Warrior rammer costing you
575s eight Stars having 10 Health three
578s attack three defense three movement but
580s it also gets to include the
583s extra uh part of creep being able to
586s move through rough terrain and by rough
588s terrain you're not going through
589s mountains you're uh they're talking
591s about potential forests that are going
592s to be on water mostly flooded tiles that
596s also does include algae that simanti
599s King create so you even if siman ends up
602s flooding up your Waters with that nasty
604s green bubbly Goo uh you still got sharks
606s they're able to navigate through all
607s that just fine
610s mhm uh yeah so
613s um so they are something like uh like
617s the warrior rammer but still they are
620s less expensive than uh than for example
623s a swordsman
624s rammer uh same price as the as the
627s defender rammer uh but like more hit
630s points with uh with the with the
632s defender uh but one person pointed out
634s that actually sharks uh are are better
638s um version of uh of a warrior rammer
642s because when they um when they Siege
645s they they don't uh so like they don't
647s lose the the defense points so it's it's
650s actually harder to uh to break the siege
654s uh uh you know like a warrior Siege
657s right yeah
660s that's shark shark Siege yeah so while
663s sharks can't move on to land they can
665s still Siege coastal cities that makes
667s them pretty good targets being being
669s able to just rush in and start taking uh
672s control of one of your opponent's cities
674s they also even though I'm saying that
676s they cost more than a warrior rammer but
677s you also got to remember that you're not
679s also spending an extra turn moving the
682s unit and then upgrading it the moment
684s you train the shark it's available mhm Y
688s correct
690s okay let's go to the next one so the
693s next one is uh y belly um yeah very very
699s cool unit um yeah and it's very very
702s special because it's the the statistics
704s are like no other unit in in the world
708s of
710s polyopia so let's let's talk about about
714s the the Y
715s bell all righty where to start so as a
719s previously quit zali main uh these is
723s this this unit is one of the more
725s interesting defensive units that I can
727s see and think of uh I know a lot of
729s players don't like them because they're
730s not great offensively but I tend to
733s disagree the fact that uh they're able
735s to pose such an annoying threat they
738s move they deal damage an enemy unit
740s moves into their tile they deal damage
743s they get trained they deal damage this
745s is a unit that's able to defend a city
748s just by training it CR in eight stars
750s and if you got units on all of them you
752s could deal damage to all eight units
754s surrounding the city just by training
756s yourself a yelli belly than yeah so the
759s deadly deadly tentacles right these
762s things are not going to win you the game
764s on their own because they can't again
766s like the shark they can't move onto the
768s land um so you'll very you'll find very
771s quickly that uh their uses they they
773s they quickly hit that wall where sharks
775s can kill units on the coast yelli
778s bellies uh the moment that they hit that
780s Coast they kind of feel like they're
781s kind of stuck there but they create a
783s big wall that your opponent really
785s struggles to get over and get through
787s because even just to attack these things
790s and they can still receive defensive
792s bonus than to aquatis but just to damage
795s these things unless you're using ranged
797s you have to move into it take damage and
801s then you get to attack it which is kind
803s of similar to mechanic that players have
805s been asking for on the Reddit of being
807s able to have like a faster retaliation
810s mhm um but in this case it's just moving
812s in the wrong spot mhm yeah also another
816s possibility that I want to try is see if
819s they deal damage by being pushed like
821s with a giant or with yeah
824s that's yeah I do know that if a unit
828s gets pushed into its tiles that unit
830s takes damage so I would assume other
833s likewise where you could train a yell
835s belly train a crab and effectively deal
838s damage with it twice in an a
840s uh just for one unit y That's I haven't
842s tested that one yet but strategic uh
846s option mhm
850s yep five eight stars out of eight
854s y yeah and I skipped one uh one unit so
859s um actually more uh so now
863s um aquarium catapults are called acault
867s right and they can also float boats
870s around the the map and um Aquarian has
875s um has Sirens which are uh an equivalent
879s of uh mine
881s Benders and also the cloaks have tails
885s so I think they are still called cloaks
888s not some like daggers have tails too
890s that's that's important
892s mer mermaid cloak or sorry like um like
897s it's it's a tongue twist twister
900s um yeah so everything everything
902s Aquarian now has a has a tail no no legs
905s anymore
907s um uh
909s yeah okay uh so let's let's go to to the
913s rest of the changes um like you already
917s mentioned
919s um aquarium doesn't have ports anymore
924s so they can uh they can uh go on water
928s like uh immediately and U uh the thing
934s that connects uh the cities because
937s they're they so in the in the past they
939s would they could connect the their
940s cities um by ports uh I mean through the
944s like water uh water routes uh but now
947s it's um mijan decided to go this simti
952s uh way and uh um so simti has melium and
958s Aquarium has uh at TOS um and they work
963s pretty much pretty much the same how do
966s you like this
968s change so atolls are interesting they're
971s they have the potential to set up some
973s really strong early game turns of you
976s spend five
978s stars and you could get yourself six
981s Pops that is insanely powerful we
984s already thought we you were saying that
986s oh yeah roads need a Nerf well it's
987s holes you put in the right spot you can
989s connect uh three of your cities together
992s that could level up usually your capital
994s for free five stars and get that all of
997s return depending on a lot of common
999s situations I'm seeing like every other
1001s game
1002s so they're strong but I don't think
1004s they're really overpowered because
1005s they're not giving you a Mobility
1007s Advantage it's just you're being able to
1011s get your monument at a pretty affordable
1013s price the more interesting thing about
1017s uh that technology I think we'll be
1018s discussing a little bit in the future
1021s mhm um one uh one question does at has
1026s have the
1027s same uh like an ability uh like the myum
1032s that it heals the units or or no so all
1035s the tools do is they create uh connect
1037s your cities through flooded or water
1040s tiles uh within three uh three range of
1043s each other okay so no healing okay noal
1046s so they kind of they are just popul yeah
1049s okay so
1051s in they do give one population like an
1054s outpost so that's important but uh
1057s yeah okay um next change uh aquafarms
1062s are back your
1064s comment uh I mean one of my favorite
1067s Arts that I made for politopia includes
1069s Aqua Farms I'm glad they're back but uh
1071s I think they fit um a little bit better
1074s being with uh uh Aquarion so I think
1078s yeah because because uh a common um a
1082s common uh like a comment from the
1086s players uh when um when the aquafarms
1089s appeared um after the path of the ocean
1092s update was released that they are
1094s actually you know clogging the the
1096s coastline it's you know it's like a lot
1098s of uh trouble with them so they they
1101s give you population but then you have to
1102s decide uh in some cases whether I should
1105s you know build a port or get a farm this
1108s aqua farm so it was a kind of yeah um
1114s they were not not a good fit for most of
1116s tribes but with the Aquarian uh them not
1119s having any any of this uh Naval Tech
1125s right now I think they they are they are
1126s a good fit so one thing I'd like to
1129s touch on to that is right now they don't
1131s currently synergize with the uh
1135s windmills uh I would me personally I'd
1138s like to see that changed um also I think
1142s because of I don't remember if it's
1145s covered here or in a different
1148s spot
1152s um uh you can put them on Coastal and
1156s Aquatic cities uh so it's not discussed
1158s in this uh part but uh later when in
1162s scrolling down for the exact patch
1164s changes you can actually build a lot of
1166s regular buildings on the water m and
1169s Visually that's it just feels off um I
1173s would like to see custom buildings just
1175s for Aquarion to make more sense uh and
1180s uh I would like to see the interaction
1181s with uh I I think that's an buff that
1185s windmills could definitely use is work
1187s with uh MH work with aqua crops too but
1191s that's that's just a personal taste
1192s honestly all of this is really just a
1195s win-win really excited to see uh how
1198s Aquarion plays out
1200s yeah and uh maybe one uh one more thing
1202s about this flooding um so I think uh
1206s that so Aquarian got the flooding uh
1210s Tech uh but a counter to to the flooding
1214s is actually building up terrain right so
1216s I think other
1218s tribes uh can counter the flooding with
1221s like building up so then then Aquarian
1224s would lose connections or the uh or
1227s their units uh would lose the ability to
1230s attack uh the cities in like Inland
1233s cities right yes very much so so while
1237s Aquarion they do receive the very much
1239s needed flooding Tech where they can
1241s bring the water to land yes that is
1243s right you could now play Aquarion on dry
1245s lands and uh still not still be allowed
1248s to use your water units you're not
1250s getting punished for playing fishes on
1251s land um but your opponents can counter
1255s it the same way that you can fight
1257s against ice your opponents can walk on
1259s to your flooded tiles and convert into
1262s land tiles and raise the land so that
1266s one's kind of a tug of war of you're
1268s receiving better benefits on the flooded
1270s tiles and your opponent's receiving
1271s better benefits on the land and unlike
1274s against pois with the ice it's a lot
1276s slower as you have to use your entire
1278s turn in order to do that so exactly it's
1282s actually really rough yeah and one huge
1284s change that I that I missed is um is
1288s this with the
1291s um like claiming the ruins uh in like
1295s water ruins so aquarium uh now in this
1298s beta at at least can um can sometimes
1302s find a lost city and then um on a place
1306s of the ruin um a level three city where
1310s the wall pops up oh yeah what do you
1312s think about that uh I think it's great
1315s thematically it's supposed to be
1317s underwater cities mhm uh so I think it's
1320s it's it's a pretty nice change you could
1323s then theoretically go to aquaculture
1325s then spend 20 Stars a turn a lot in
1327s order to build uh build up monuments in
1330s order to even expand the border of these
1332s aquatic cities that are thematically
1335s underwater they've got City walls
1336s they're so hard to get to for a normal
1339s tribe the downside about these cities
1343s however is the fact that they only
1346s produce two stars per turn um I I
1349s consider an okay city is a city with at
1352s least three stars per turn so either and
1355s like not a lot of resources from what I
1358s experienced like I did not play many
1360s games in in this beta but uh I got like
1364s maybe one or two fish uh from such a
1367s city so unless you get um aquatis and
1372s build you know temples all around it's
1375s like it's very unlikely that that you'll
1376s be able to to upgrade the such a city
1380s that's correct luckily you could still
1381s build a tolls so you can spend five
1383s stars to make a connection uh as well as
1386s get one pop so that takes care of two
1388s pops but you're still missing two in
1389s order to level up the city at least one
1391s more time so it's yep it is possible for
1394s you to get crabs out of these cities
1396s it's but it's going to be insanely
1398s expensive to build up underwater but uh
1402s yeah that's I don't think it's really
1403s intended for these cities to be built up
1405s into Mega complexes M you are still able
1408s to build the other buildings though
1409s because mijan did want to make sure that
1412s you could build in these that's why
1414s Aquarion can build uh regular buildings
1416s in Ocean down mhm
1420s yep um and uh to finish our um our
1427s discussion we have some uh minor changes
1429s so uh trien uh Lo lost the ability to
1435s fortify uh crabs um same as uh sharks
1441s have the creep ability and they also
1444s move two tiles and I think have this
1448s um um Runway what's what's the name of
1451s the uh this run uh Runway after after
1455s attack uh so they still have that
1457s ability they've never fully uh that was
1461s the where Dash where after they attack
1464s they can move again mhm but crabs have a
1468s movement of
1470s two water yeah so again you're G to be
1475s crabs are going to be an excellent way
1476s to spread the water onto the opponent's
1478s lands because they're so hard to
1480s kill um but I'm also excited to see
1482s potentially new strategies developed
1484s specifically for Aquarion just so you
1486s can start flooding the opponent's
1488s titles yep that will be interesting yeah
1492s and crabs they they got a bit of lifting
1496s like gra Graphics lifting so they um
1499s they're a bit different from those craps
1501s that that we are used
1504s to yeah so I think that's pretty much
1507s all
1509s um we have for you uh from the from the
1512s Block post right uh we did not skip
1516s anything uh the other thing that got
1519s skipped was something that we already
1520s covered where uh the ruins turn into
1525s cities with
1526s walls uh or they level three cities with
1528s our walls and uh yeah uh that looks like
1534s it I believe that's it so just a quick
1536s recap terrain is now flooded and all
1538s aquar on stuff so that's why they're at
1540s the same level as the water and they're
1542s one step lower than land uh all units
1545s are now amphibious so they can walk on
1547s water at all times starting with Coastal
1550s water but by picking up fishing you can
1552s move into the ocean rammers are replaced
1554s with sharks bombers are replaced with
1556s yelli bellies to act similar to
1558s juggernaut so they're not a new uh
1560s they're not the new bomber you've got c
1563s yeah I'm I'm very curious how how this
1566s because I actually did not uh um so I
1570s played with bots so you know it's it's
1572s obviously not like a real deal uh when
1575s playing with with humans I actually did
1577s not experience that much uh like real
1580s you know uh Naval Combat so Aquarian
1583s against some uh some bomber some bombers
1586s and um and like rammers like you know
1589s real stuff so I'm actually curious uh
1592s how how this plays
1594s out all righty okay so I think we can go
1599s to to
1601s games so let remove that and
1606s um
1608s yeah so there's your screen perfect um
1613s if I needed to I could jump into a bot
1615s game but we're going to try to because
1617s I've got at least one player set
1621s aside um I would assume Lakes would
1624s probably be appropriate for the first
1627s game and we're going to play 24 hours
1630s just to so that way we have a little bit
1632s more time to since uh these are all new
1635s stuff for us mechanically um y sure I
1639s agree garden and spirit is the wrong
1641s word we got to go aha Eternal
1645s whales uh we'll leave all the tribes
1647s open mhm and I'm
1652s gonna go ahead and grab
1655s this but let me grab my
1660s player uh that I had in reserve to help
1664s out with all play testing yeah and uh if
1668s someone someone from the audience uh has
1671s um has the the beta uh we you can you
1676s can like send you a friend re request to
1679s we right and then y maybe after this
1682s first game you could play with someone
1684s from from the audience but the condition
1686s is you you need to be in beta because
1688s otherwise the the game will will open in
1691s the version before so it will be the the
1694s old uh
1696s aquarium and today we want we want to
1698s try out the the
1704s beta all righty there we go we have our
1707s opponent and we're going to be starting
1708s starting the
1711s game jumping right into it thank you
1715s jumping right into this game we actually
1717s are seeing pretty much all the similar
1718s stuff uh take a quick look at architect
1721s tree we are back to what we are familiar
1724s with when Aquarion first came out
1726s absolutely no text so we're going to
1728s have to research writing if we want to
1730s be writing our
1732s Turtles uh we're going to go ahead and
1734s do the traditional start and even notice
1736s moving onto these flooded tiles still
1738s sounds like
1742s water um our opponent is looks like
1746s their
1750s Luxor
1753s oo this one's going to be tricky because
1755s of this
1757s setup might be able to get away with a
1761s pretty greedy play but we're going to
1763s play it safer we're going to meet so
1765s you're not going for for the lighthouse
1768s I I I was heavily considering it right
1770s there could have had a fishing play
1772s right
1775s there not what I wanted to
1778s see um we'll pass the
1782s turn however sharks and all that are
1785s able to move through these flooded
1786s things so the sooner I pick up these
1788s sharks the sooner that I can
1790s start uh uh being aggressive on the
1796s coastlines uh kind of would like to pick
1799s yeah so so the only the only terrain you
1801s can't flood is is the mountains so
1803s mountains are mountains and you can't uh
1806s like flood them that's
1811s correct for some darn reason those
1814s mountains are just a tad bit too tall
1817s mhm maybe like you know two or three
1820s turns of flooding and it would work but
1824s in general
1833s I'm going to try to get a cheeky little
1835s explore onto my opponent right now we
1836s don't see enemy terrain so they either
1839s here in the west or the South we're
1841s going to move our Warrior like so and
1843s there we go fruit
1846s fruit and let's find out where our
1848s opponent's at I found
1852s you go down to down to down to down to
1854s down down down down yes perfect got that
1857s lighthouse
1860s yeah so they are definitely
1868s Lu aut way should be pretty good
1874s here um right now we're just considering
1876s do we train another Warrior I think I'm
1878s going to be greedy and choose not to I'd
1881s like
1883s to consider a slightly stronger start
1898s the longer we can deny our opponent that
1900s scatting Bones the better um but yeah so
1902s our opponent spawn here in the western
1905s corner of the map
1911s unfortunately unfortunately they managed
1914s to get to that City before we could and
1916s they're going to be looking to expand
1917s these Bo
1918s they're not going to be able to build a
1920s bridge anywhere here so we might be able
1922s to race them to the Eastern side of the
1924s map and take full
1926s advantage of our
1930s aquatic uh base that we got we to grab a
1933s work shot for a superior economy and
1936s pass that
1942s turn right now we are just looking to
1945s have a clean transition into the mid
1948s game we have an okay economy with Nine
1950s Stars per
1952s turn uh but this is not looking good
1955s luckily we've got this water and
1957s Mountain tile between our opponent so we
1960s can uh spend a couple turns just
1963s training up a
1964s Warriors I am looking to get amphibians
1967s because that will allow me to
1968s outmaneuver our opponent quickly expand
1971s across the
1972s water same way that Aquarion always did
1974s it ah and they're choosing to go south
1976s instead
1980s that actually buys me even more time
1982s than I'm looking for we're just going to
1984s train a safety mermaid and pass that
1988s turn and next turn we're picking up
1998s fishing with this setup we actually have
2002s a strong chance of getting early sharks
2007s and being a aggressive against our
2009s opponent and really keeping them inside
2012s of the borders right over
2015s here really considering writing more is
2018s more important
2024s though they get a workshop they did not
2028s so our opponent explored they have
2030s vision of us
2033s now yeah so the audience says that once
2037s Luxor gets Riders you're
2040s dead yeah just about I was hoping for
2044s this Warrior to go um downwards MH
2052s now still going to go ahead and pick up
2054s fishing fish fish
2061s hunt we're to be safe and just pick up
2064s some City walls here
2070s oh ruin
2072s oo we're going to delay on capturing
2075s this ruin for a couple turns we'd rather
2077s uncover this cloud and get the
2081s lighthouse
2084s um and we're just going to play this
2087s defensively and train up another safety
2089s Warrior and pass that
2092s turn our opponent's looking to surround
2095s the capital and get a Siege in but now
2099s statistically they are unable to so we
2102s should be
2122s fine did do you think the they already
2125s have some CD with the with the water
2127s access or or
2129s not um so our opponent from the looks of
2132s it needs to expand borders first so they
2135s have to improve their economy before
2136s they can consider getting onto the water
2140s so again we're going to delay capturing
2142s that just for a
2144s turn um
2165s this point i' rather let's go ahead and
2167s get these amphibians a rolling so we can
2169s start a defending our s but
2175s also yeah expanding much faster
2178s because the the mermaid Warriors are
2181s nice but still they like one uh it's
2184s it's one one tile range um so they are
2190s they are
2193s slow we are this turn gonna go ahead and
2195s pick up
2198s aols um man that would have been
2202s nice right over
2204s here oh that was misplay I should have
2207s uh gotten this
2208s first yeah five stars
2212s m not the end of the world
2216s mhm and we'll the
2222s turn Okay first kill
2229s mhm
2231s oo they already have access to
2235s catapults so they're looking to try to
2237s start sieging this city a lot if they're
2240s able to level this up they're going to
2241s expand the borders there they go and now
2243s they have water access okay yeah so this
2246s Forest tile here is is in the way for a
2249s perfect it
2251s hole yeah this this one would connect
2254s all three
2257s cities um there's no reason for us to
2260s use the holes yet so we're just going to
2262s go fishing get ourselves those extra
2272s resources move right over
2276s here that's gonna be
2278s is this a spot for for this lost city or
2282s or not because there is there there are
2284s some conditions so not all ruins will be
2287s lost cities right that is correct so in
2290s order for a city to be lost city uh
2292s first it needs to be on an ocean tile
2294s which this ruin is but it also can't be
2297s too close to another city now while our
2300s opponent did expand the
2302s borders uh but it's still not too close
2305s to any cities it's at least too far away
2307s from here too far away from here three
2308s far away from all the way over here so
2311s adjacency wise this ruin is actually if
2314s we capture it a lost city

2688s that's not quite the case maybe have to
2690s go with mermaid archers or maybe our
2692s aquacult of our own we've got a lot of
2695s options there is one other option I'd
2697s like to consider which is going strategy
2700s for these mermaid Defenders specifically
2702s so we move forward very slowly and
2705s thanks to this waterways technology
2707s start flooding the tiles and then be
2709s using our marine life as well asell
2712s bellies to start applying pressure so
2717s those are the options that we're looking
2718s at for now we're going to go ahead and
2721s just Spam out a whole bunch more
2722s amphibians in the back just for a bit of
2725s extra pressure we should probably be
2727s saving Our Stars for
2730s farming uh but yeah so there you go this
2732s is I don't know how common this is going
2734s to be but here is a level
2737s five uh underwater city
2764s yeah they are trying to expand
2767s to to those Southern
2771s Villages yeah but it's interesting that
2774s they um they are going for for a land
2776s battle I think like all the funds went

2874s he already has the tech meaning uh Lux

2881s the real question is how do we deal with
2882s it so that's the that's tricky part
2887s because normally uh the slow and steady
2890s doesn't quite work in most cases we
2892s would have to go with something like
2893s diplomacy get a whole bunch of daggers
2896s and use them specifically just to create
2898s flooded tiles but that's unreliable yep
2902s I will also tell you like every single
2904s game I play if the moment you rush
2905s cloaks you lose the game so uh you can
2908s try it probably not going to work out
2911s they are very situ situational
2914s y uh how we want to proceed with
2919s this I'm probably could just pick up
2921s archery get a defensive bonus and start
2925s picking off the units but I kind of did
2927s that uh during the live stream already I
2930s think I kind of want to play with
2933s uh the slow and steady mermaid defend no
2937s won't be able to deal with the Giants in
2938s two turns that way

3066s be able to to move the more than one
3068s tile so yeah because with the with the
3071s other tribes it's like if you if you get
3073s the roads it's the The Archers are like
3076s get like a huge Advantage

3097s more defensive position I was afraid he
3098s was going to move his Giants forward all

3110s currently in that even though we barely

3640s impossible for for Aquarian to um to
3644s reach those those Inland cities like uh

3651s example yeah so we went ahead and we
3653s flooded this tile also notice even
3655s though this was Luxor land this is now a
3658s flooded city so they'll automatically
3661s flood their City sort of uh same way
3663s that a lot of your tiles will
3665s automatically get those uh little
3669s bonuses we're going to go ahead and just
3672s apply even more pressure to our opponent
3674s and then we're going to do so again by
3678s we're going to build the grand Grand
3682s Bazaar population boost and the eye of
3686s God
3688s got ourselves a super unit that went the
3690s wrong way it was supposed to go over
3691s here but uh not the other way that's a
3695s shame
3697s yeah and my current goal is I want
3700s mermaid Defenders specifically to just
3702s move around annoy the opponent and start
3705s flooding all the tiles so my better
3707s units such as a shark uh can
3711s uh start actually applying pressure to
3715s their cities
3718s but as I can see if
3721s you um claim a village that is with your
3726s opponent's terrain it doesn't flut
3728s automatically so it's not like uh like
3731s with Polaris that it freezes everything
3734s that is correct you have to manually
3737s flood everything oh yeah so in order to
3740s connect all these cities to the capital
3742s uh we're going have to need a tolls
3743s which we got to flood those uh tiles so
3746s it does take quite a bit of time yeah
3751s progress um we're going to we're just
3754s train another shark back here and the
3755s pass
3757s turn yeah so then R to C2 says time to

4860s certain uh any roads that get built are
4863s actually destroyed because I don't think
4865s roads are allowed to exist on flooded
4867s tiles no that's a that's a fair question

6391s with like grow Forest it's five right
6395s and then burn Forest is five and then
6399s Farm is five So it's 15 all
6403s together and how much is
6407s fertiliz uh fertilize is just five okay

8368s domination but single shark is eight
8370s Stars which means you need on average
8372s about three cities of okay production
8374s before you can get a shark and that
8376s takes a whole turn just to train anyway
8378s so yeah I think he he eventually got
8381s them very uh late yeah he he end up
8384s getting them quite late where whereas I
8387s had a very beautiful city that was
8389s screaming I need to pick up Construction
8391s mm our opponent is just looking for his
8394s other cities right over
8396s here probably would have recommended a
8399s an Explorer but
8403s yeah uh could have he figured out the
8407s that there is this CD in the in the
8408s middle or uh based on on on the
8411s resources or not so our opponent didn't

8415s means he had no
8417s vision any resources so unfortunately no

8424s been like a kind of a game changer for
8428s like you shift a bit
8430s the uh the
8434s balance because once you got this uh
8436s this middle City it
8439s was hard for them to to expand and
8442s actually have a you know kind of me
8445s meaningful connection with the with the
8447s rest of of of his cities yep now our
8450s opponent the right thing and they went
8452s to a whole bunch of workshops they're
8453s picking up uh writing so that way they
8456s can fight a lot of good fights early on
8458s so this is this is a smart play actually
8460s on their uh on their part trying to make
8462s do with what they got of they've got a
8464s weak economy so they need a stronger
8466s early game military and writers are
8469s pretty much always the correct answer
8470s when it comes to
8472s that oh two tiles

8534s this was kind of a this misplay

8594s Siege and he would have had to invest
8597s his entire military into that yeah and
8600s the city in the West
8601s also very
8603s vulnerable uh even though it was closer
8606s than than the cities in the in the
8609s East still in a quite bad
8614s spot yep so uh even though he had Riders
8618s um we picked up sharks and decided to
8620s invest in stronger units that took time
8623s to build up but once they did uh we got
8627s to have a quite a bit of a Snowball

8638s rough uh rough game for the
8641s opponent was three cities here three
8643s cities here this one was closer to the

11312s though is to remember navies are
11317s expensive so whenever you're that so
11320s that was a good siege to just deny
11322s pressure uh but you you end up losing
11325s Tempo with that unit you also see right
11328s over here this was a flooded tile but in
11330s order for land units to do what they
11332s need to like roads uh it actually is no
11335s longer flooded and built
11337s up can make that action manually uh or
11341s when cities are captured yeah because I
11343s I I was definitely sure that that there
11345s were some some refs here so I was
11347s confused so yeah it's like so it it has
11351s two purposes so he can disembark okay

11355s disembarking it I don't know if there's
11357s a missclick or uh or not or if he was
11360s just experimenting with
11368s it yeah so we're just doing what we can

11378s cities so that's one thing we had going

11388s do you think that it it was a good play
11391s for them to to actually go that far east
11395s instead of you know going a bit back to
11399s South and building their you know forces
11402s because those
11404s cities uh you know they they're far away
11407s and um actually if they if they build up
11412s more um like Naval power uh you had you
11416s had three cities in the in the in the in
11418s the north um
11421s right so it really comes down to how so
11424s if if they like my question is maybe
11426s they they you know spread up
11429s too too far
11432s like they did spread out really far but
11435s in my opinion it's a good play because
11438s it's preventing me from getting more
11440s cities and preventing me from getting
11442s more
11443s production in a lot of games whoever can
11446s produce more units typically is the one
11448s that's uh going to be going to win
11450s because they have the
11451s advantage uh you need two Warriors in
11454s order to kill one Warrior off so if
11456s you've got both people have two Warriors
11459s it's equal trade and whoever does the
11460s better exchange is the one that
11463s wins um typically he the one that
11465s attacks first but if you have three
11467s Warriors versus their
11468s two well you're going to win that
11470s exchange every time so in general
11473s whoever production is the one that's
11475s going to win the game in the long run
11478s so I actually think this is a good play
11480s to go outwards it's just he needed to be
11484s able to defend this because whenever you
11486s make the play to out expand your
11489s opponent your goal isn't necessarily to
11494s then win the game by expanding like this
11496s your goal is to maintain the
11500s advantage and then starve your opponent
11503s out because you're gonna win in the long
11505s run
11509s The Only Exception is when cloaks come
11512s into play or if you're playing against
11513s an lyion player because they can just
11514s Spam out a lot of units at once and
11517s completely negate that rule but in
11519s general once you have more
11522s cities
11523s uh just be careful about how you're
11526s being aggressive but uh really put
11528s yourself in position to defend rather
11530s than to attack and then in this case
11533s it's whoever's behind it's their job to
11536s initiate the pressure in order for them
11539s to win because if I wasn't aggressive
11541s with these crabs such say as like I did
11543s I just tried to play defensive with this
11545s crab uh then all I'm doing is I'm just
11549s giving my letting my opponent run away
11551s with the advantage over and
11554s over so if you set yourself up in a
11556s defensive way and you control what your
11558s opponent's
11560s doing uh then you give yourself into the
11564s advantage I think the biggest misplay
11566s that happened though was
11568s not saving up enough stars to get a
11571s safety warrior in all your cities
11573s because you got seven you should at
11575s least be training a warrior here so that
11577s way this uh Rider can't get in for free
11579s and you should at least be training a
11581s warrior here to make sure that this crab
11583s when it kills this um raft can't just
11587s move on it

11596s uh I believe there's one more

11639s that's that's a thing that I guarantee
11640s you once Aaron's released and if they're
11642s feeling this powerful uh a lot of people
11645s are gonna be playing against Aquarion
11646s and complaining on the subreddit so

11651s San yeah everybody start playing siman
11654s so that way you have a chance yeah no
11657s but honestly that was a that was a good
11659s game uh a lot of pressure was uh was
11662s applied but not enough economy was built
11666s up to afford this Navy because when it
