120s champ one of the greatest players of the
122s square and a fantastic commentator and a

140s just be me hey everyone yeah I tried you

153s absolutely I mean unfortunately did not
156s get to see in know in finals for this
160s month but playing hudrick has been a
164s blast and I'm really looking forward to
168s looking at the siman guest week as well
170s getting two tribes definitely mixes it
172s up a little bit and I think we're going
175s to see that in these games awesome

194s too busy this year to be playing but

207s commentary uh yeah so before we uh we
211s start uh the hre highlights um let's
214s talk about uh about the recent forgotten
217s the Forgotten update so what do you guys
220s think about them uh their looks balance
223s changes and new text because there's
225s like plenty of things have been have
227s been
230s changed you know you want to take this
231s one first I they been playing so um you
234s are both Kraken so you should be you
236s know
237s like I'm split I'm split in the um you
241s know self- serving aspects because as
243s much as I am a kraken as much as I love
245s seeing the squids you know get their
246s time in the sun I'm also a crab and yeah
251s I feel like more more aquar gra yeah I
255s love all Aquarion and the skin I was not
258s feeling it with the Toads until I
261s learned that they ribet when you click
262s on them yeah this immediately cured my
265s depression it got me out of debt uh it
268s berthed my first child and and I was
271s ready I was ready to you know play The
274s Forgotten skin and then I saw also that
277s they have these uh trade outposts these
280s houses that are incredible they're right
283s next to fishing and for the first time
285s and perhaps like the entire time I've
287s been playing the game Aquarion has an
290s economy now they've also got Bubbles and
293s they can move so quickly I mean not as
296s quickly I love the bubbles fin so cheap
299s too I was flabbergasted I was playing
303s Aquarion and it felt like they had more
305s things than just one unit and that made
307s them competitive at the end of the game
310s and they had toads which rib it I can't
312s emphasize that enough I'm a big fan is
317s the best thing so now the quarion sorry
320s the Forgotten actually uh wi the the
323s super unit contest the the toad is the
325s the best of the best yes well and and
331s they did get a slight nerve you know the
333s defense being reduced to four is a
335s little upsetting we can't have toads
338s that can just soak up a ton of damage
341s but 100% agree the skin itself is
345s adorable and I can't wait to use it in
348s game um
351s especially you know the octos and the
355s units all being squids and then yeah the
359s Octo actually uh got a pretty big change
363s they they can attack because before they
365s were just uh uh applying this damage
371s with with their movement so pretty much
373s like like not like jugut so like now
376s they are like more like jut so they have
379s two I think I think it's a really kind
382s of
383s underrated uh buff to the unit yeah I
388s think one of the struggles
390s once cuz in a lot of Aquarion games you
393s want to rush navigation you want to get
395s your jellies down as soon as you can
398s because they're so good uh and one of
401s the problems with that was once you
403s started pushing your opponent back let's
406s say you're playing an Aquarion mirror
407s and you get navigation first and you
409s have your jellies down um once you start
412s pushing them back right you want to be
413s able to Siege their city but the problem
416s is you have to move your jellies to do
419s Dam you or used to have to move your
420s jellies to do damage so you wouldn't be
423s able to you had you had to have like
424s three jellies in range to Siege a city
428s uh if there was a warrior in it because
429s one jelly moves hits another jelly moves
431s and kills and the third jelly sieges and
433s that's that's a lot of stars man that's
435s a lot of jellies now it's
438s like I can move one and then Siege with
441s the other one and the the really cool
444s part about being able to attack with
445s jellies is it really changes how your
448s opponent is able to defend
450s because now if they leave a unit in the
454s center of a bunch of other units right
457s you can actually kill that unit and that
459s makes jellies really efficient in Naval
462s battles where your opponent might be
463s spamming a lot of rammers or things like
466s that
467s because before right the jellies had to
470s move around the outside of the units
472s basically like trying to wrap around
474s them because you can't you can't use
475s them to kill anything um and that means
477s that they can only damage one to two
479s units at a time
480s now you know that's not the case and
482s they have this really nice ability but
485s as you guys said bubbles incredible
488s really love Bubbles I started laughing
493s uncontrollably Ino and I were in a call
495s and we were looking over some replays
498s and watching toads move three tiles just
501s started making me laugh I just couldn't
503s stop laughing
504s because we've never seen a super unit
507s that has 40 Health be able to move
510s three tiles like just yeah even two is
514s is amazing that three is is like you
516s know crazy and it's free it's it's it's
518s you don't have to spend any stars to do
520s it yeah exactly no so they look really
523s amazing um on offense being able to
525s reach the front lines really quick and
527s even land some sneaky sieges if you can
530s clear the city
531s beforehand um and then as in know said
534s moving the atls or as they're called
537s trade houses into aquaculture is a huge
541s boost to their economy especially with
543s the lost city change where Lost Cities
546s spawn with a bunch of
548s resources yeah now it makes even more
550s sense to try to get aquaculture as soon
554s as you can
556s because again I think this is a theme of
558s the the update Aquarion is just so star
560s efficient now you can spend five to 10
563s stars and connect five six cities to
567s your Capital um and that's you know 12
570s population for 10 stars and you can do
574s the math on that but I think that's
575s about as the star efficient as it gets
577s so I'm loving the new Aquarion yeah like
581s know said they finally have economy what
583s about the Sharks do you uh like or this
586s like the the buff so now they are 3.5 on
590s on attack you know what do you think
592s they didn't feel too strong before they
595s felt neat interesting but they didn't
598s feel like super necessary now
601s everything's changed I mean what's
603s really important I think to take note of
605s is the um you are forced to start with
607s two fish in your Capital Aquarian always
610s loved going for fish always wanted to go
612s into marine life for the access to the
615s deep ocean tiles but now it's even more
618s streamlined in that aspect and sharks
621s are just right there they have more
622s attack as well they're much more useful
625s in the role that they're filling much
627s more able to do it and the entire TCH
628s tree is pointing you in that that
630s direction too now that they are actually
632s so much better um I haven't really come
635s up against a player using sharks against
638s me so maybe if someone used them against
641s me and I lost I would be you know much
643s more angry with the sharks but hasn't
645s happened yet I've only used them and
647s been winning so a fantastic change no
651s complaints yeah so so just to H jump in
654s there was a there was a nice video uh
656s showcasing the how the s uh are doing um
663s Justin Linguini did it for for our
665s channel so the link uh is in the
669s description go ahead and uh and watch
672s this video if you are curious about the
674s the new sharks yeah Chris absolutely
677s check that one out I mean I was a fan of
679s sharks even before the buff
683s because there are a lot of cases in the
687s early to mid game where if you can
690s get a few of them going you can really
692s disrupt your opponent's expansion um but
695s what makes them really cool now is with
697s 3.5 attack they can one shot
701s Warriors and I think that's a pretty
703s significant change
707s because a lot of tribes on maps with
710s more
711s water where I'm thinking like continents
713s or archipelago they're looking to expand
717s using mostly Warriors because there's
719s just not enough land to justify going
722s riding so early um and now that you can
725s on-shot those Warriors even a single
727s shark is pretty threatening whereas
729s before you needed two of them and one of
732s the downsides of sharks is that you
734s spend eight stars on a unit and if it
737s can't kill anything it probably just
739s dies um from your opponent's units and
743s so you end up losing stars but if a if a
746s shark can on-shot a warrior and then
748s take a village for example that's a huge
750s uh swing in your favor and if the shark
753s manages to capture the village it's
755s basically made its production cost back
759s and so I think it's going to make them
761s an attractive option if you're
764s especially in those Aquarion mirrors if
767s you're looking to put a lot of pressure
769s on your opponent
770s early and what's great is that you want
773s marine life anyway being able to move on
776s deep water is a huge boost to On's
780s ability to play around the map and do
783s things that other tribes can't do and it
785s also leads into navigation right you
787s want to be able to see those starfish
789s you want to be able to yeah of course
793s identify how you're going to get into
795s jellies later in the game um and if you
798s happen to get a few sharks along the way
800s that's even better now and they have the
803s chance of really doing something that
805s they couldn't do before so I think we're
807s going to see more of them I definitely
809s think we're going to to see more of them
811s I always thought they were really fun um
813s I'm a huge shark fan myself although um
817s yeah but a lot of people were
818s complaining that they're you know too
819s squishy and uh those eight stars were
822s like a bit steep uh you know
825s for for what you get they're still
828s really squishy so it
830s hasn't that might still be a problem but
833s I like to think of sharks as units that
836s you don't want to buy a lot of you don't
838s want to have your entire Army be made up
840s of sharks because they'll just
842s eventually die and probably lose you
845s stars but having a few sharks here in
847s there to cut off your opponent's
849s expansion and being able to get a few
852s sharks later in the game if your
853s opponent has toads of their own um or
856s other super units that you need to deal
858s with is really nice um some interactions
862s I think are cool if you're playing in
865s simanti you can onot segments that don't
867s have a defense bonus um and that's a
871s pretty nice change I think it's going to
873s help them be more efficient at taking
874s out centipedes um especially since
878s Aquarion has a relatively low Forest
880s rate so it's unlikely that the segments
883s are going to get defense bonuses while
884s you're while siman is attacking
888s um
890s and honestly just the fact that they
893s don't take retaliation damage makes them
894s fantastic defensive units if you're if a
897s Giant's walking up to your city and you
899s have a few sharks that Giant's going to
901s get shredded um and if it takes a shark
903s or two with it that's okay you know
905s you're willing to trade away those stars
907s for killing the
909s giant yeah of
911s course um yeah so I think um we'll stop
916s here uh that's all we had to kind of
920s share with about the Forgotten uh so um
923s who of you will uh share their screens

994s some which game specifically Chris are
997s you thinking is the
1000s appetizer um one of two a chess maybe I
1002s think that's going to be a solid
1004s appetizer get it get a get a sense of
1006s what we're what we're looking at in this
1009s hyri
1010s month absolutely this was a game that
1014s vorce gave to us uh with the only
1017s comments being this is about as good as
1019s hudrick drylands

1026s gets maybe an unconventional
1030s opening we've got our two players
1033s something is wrong with your with your
1037s mic Chris good yeah uh yeah something
1042s was was wrong with with your we couldn't
1044s hear you uh clearly is it all right now
1047s yeah it's fine perfect
1050s all right so this game we've got chess a
1053s veteran of the community I've been
1055s around playing politopia for quite a
1056s while over in the east corner versus and
1060s I'm you actually forgive me here no no
1062s no I I I will say that because you will
1065s butcher it and people are complaining a
1067s lot about the
1069s JC uh yeah yeah so it's actually sandou
1074s yeah all right ah okay that makes sense
1078s it's a it's a PO poish magic you
1080s know Goa
1083s yeah they're going to be playing each
1085s other and the game goes on for quite a
1088s while uh Chris do you want to take over
1091s the early turn yeah something fun I'd
1093s like to note about the both of their
1095s spawns is that they both have more fruit
1097s in their Capital than
1099s animals um and that's unusual for HRI
1103s but absolutely sendat starts nicely with
1106s hunting and then Che a chess or
1109s organization almost never see that from
1112s HRI but he's got those six fruit in
1115s capital and three in the Second City so
1118s makes a lot of sense Explorer runs
1121s straight backwards yeah let's give him a
1123s nice Lighthouse and upgrade I think it's
1126s time though that we can turn the shared
1128s fog
1129s off yeah now we can see what the players
1132s are seeing get into their mind a little
1135s bit a little bit of an open-ended
1137s Explorer for ch aess kind of risking
1140s seeing where his opponent is but it's
1142s fantastic right reveals so much of sun
1145s Dutch
1147s spawn he's playing pretty passively he's
1149s got this nice Village density he thinks
1151s there's a village in the South around
1154s those three animals which sure enough we
1156s can see that there is first Siege of the
1159s game coming out from sandat um it's not
1162s going to hold but it's going to put a
1163s little bit of pressure but really nice
1166s counter by chess unsing and moving his
1169s Archer at the same time he's going to be
1170s able to continue expanding um while also
1173s getting that nice
1174s uneg it also seemed positive almost that
1178s uh ch's opponent here could have stepped
1181s on that Village uh CH did have the units
1184s in range to kick them off of there but
1188s uh no knowledge of that went for The
1190s Siege instead neither really would have
1192s worked but still a lot more aggressive
1195s here right from the
1197s opening absolutely
1199s going to end up in a pretty now it's
1202s even but it's
1204s asymmetrical that uh they both have
1207s three
1208s villages but much more aggressive
1211s pushing towards here whereas chs's plan
1213s is all about
1214s defending I noticed that s is a little
1216s bit spread thin on the west side he had
1219s to make some more units this turn to
1221s help supplement his expansion oh my go
1225s great population ruin for suuch he gets
1227s those free five star nice Capital
1230s upgrade going to be able to use that to
1232s get even more units and Forestry which
1236s progresses him towards Giants trying
1239s to do something a little bit better than
1242s just Warriors and
1244s archers but again we see that because
1246s chess was expanding a little bit faster
1249s into the West he picks up that fourth
1251s city sooner and that's huge that fourth
1254s city is really really nice for him look
1257s he's also going to pick up this monster
1259s fifth City with five animals on it here
1262s oh yeah it was a little Skirmish over it
1264s but he ended up winning uh playing a
1266s little more
1268s defensively and this is
1270s a I think it's incredibly important just
1273s because of how great it's resources are
1276s sh can really choose like dictate the
1279s tempo of the game like if I get a giant
1281s here and start pushing it into you he is
1283s going to have to respond because his
1285s opponent is hudrick to how many archers
1287s ranged units they have a single giant is
1290s probably not going to be enough because
1292s they're just so slow at pushing in
1294s against a bunch of wrench units over
1296s time which will wh which will Whittle
1299s them down but CH has to react a little
1302s bit to that but this really dictates the
1304s tempo like if I get a giant that forces
1307s them to respond if I just wait here
1310s where I put all my units put all my
1312s stars rather into getting a bunch of
1314s units in other places fighting for these
1316s cities over here then that's what you're
1319s going to have to be doing it puts him in
1321s a much more active role which he hasn't
1323s really been doing much throughout this
1325s game but yeah let's see how it goes from
1327s here I also really like the fact that
1329s because CHS has
1331s organization all he needs to get the
1333s Giant in that city is hunting and
1337s Forestry so yeah he's a giant yeah yeah
1341s in the meantime the I set a poll in set
1344s up a poll um in the chat so uh tell us
1348s what you think about the the new
1349s forgotten

1355s absolutely really nice Explorer here
1359s otherwise could have taken this Village
1361s here but for that Vision CH is going to
1364s kick him off yeah I really like that
1366s Explorer I mean it's it seems a little
1368s risky at first but ches kind of knows
1370s that sand needs to expand into the west
1374s and having those archers that he really
1376s wants to use this turn Mak that Explorer
1379s really nice great job getting that
1382s Lighthouse going to allow him to
1384s progress towards a giant in his
1386s Capital another Workshop not going for
1388s that southern Lighthouse giving up on
1391s eye of God but feeling that the one star
1394s is a little more necessary
1397s maybe yeah I mean he kind of knows at
1400s this point that s is stuck on five
1403s cities or not five cities four cities
1406s sorry yeah and after that or for first
1409s route we're actually seeing a star ruin
1411s as kind of necessary into buying
1413s forestry as HRI on turn 11 like not even
1417s rder roads was delaying it just the org
1420s earlier and how many units have been
1422s trained very unusual stuff but he's able
1426s to pick up forestry now and these higher
1429s slity upgrades should be no problem you
1432s just one chop to get a giant but he's
1434s going to get border growth he's feeling
1437s uh way more interested in the late game
1439s potential of way more than one giant on
1441s that Capital yeah and using those chops
1446s to pump out a few more units and
1448s continue to apply pressure if we look at
1450s the relative size of the two players
1452s armies right CHS has far more units at
1455s this point however suuch does get the
1458s first giant of the
1459s game yeah this Giants waiting far in the
1463s back but this is something very
1465s important for all games Giants are also
1468s income
1469s High L cities a park of Fortune to get
1472s another upgrade get the other Giants
1474s rolling in so even though it's not going
1476s to be attacking for a while when it does
1478s attack it's hoping that it comes in
1479s around the time that this giant pops up
1482s and starts putting a lot of pressure on
1484s this city right now ches targeting these
1488s Villages holding them down this looked
1491s like from the oddset a village very much
1494s sandd but chues is controlling it right
1498s now
1499s uh he's got a few units around his
1501s Capital doing the I'd say bare minimum
1504s for defense but he's really concerned
1507s now about these Giants pulling in he
1509s just doesn't have the units to deal with
1511s it yet he's definitely reacting to what
1514s his opponent's doing right now in the
1516s east at least in the west he's
1519s pushing oh yeah giant push otherwise he
1522s couldn't prevent a Siege over here next
1525s turn yeah beautiful giant push
1529s and definitely I mathematics
1532s ruin huge for suuch mathematics of
1536s course essential tech for hudrick um i'
1539s love to see a sawmill there and a chop
1541s but a little more expensive this way
1543s still gets the giant yep I think that's
1546s an artifact of it being a live game uh
1548s made a plan for how to get the giant the
1550s turn before didn't react maybe to the uh
1553s ruin TR push again for kill yeah yeah
1558s nice
1559s yeah we have to note that that all the
1561s all those games that you will see they
1563s were live games so um be mindful of that
1567s the the players couldn't you know make
1569s their like long plans where they will
1573s put their units and you know absolutely
1577s make the best offensive
1580s moves however we're still seeing pretty
1583s tight play from both sides sometimes
1585s I'll trick you into thinking that it's a
1587s 24-hour game with how quality their
1590s decisions are yeah
1593s yeah progressing towards even more
1596s Giants and what's really nice about
1597s having mathematics here is that he can
1599s go for catapults and cheess does not
1603s have riding roads yet so that's going to
1608s make catapults look pretty good here
1610s catapults not only for defense but just
1612s pushing in against the Giants they're
1615s able to get their archers up going and
1618s take out out all of the opponent's units
1620s on these front cities and then start
1622s pushing catapults forwards yeah into a
1625s range where it starts taking care of the
1627s Giants in the back something CHS has to
1629s react to something else CHS does very
1633s wise defensive resource he's going to go
1635s ahead use his killer monument and get
1638s border growth on this city right now
1641s before he captures up here he wants
1643s these two forests to be in this City's
1646s range or even if not those two Forest
1649s the farm now that is already a ton of
1653s giants like mathematics or maybe even
1656s like roads and the monument he gets for
1659s Grand Bazar six cities like also farming
1662s absolutely two like bare minimum with a
1665s little bit of investment and then three
1667s if he goes a little crazier investing
1669s stars in the city but two or three
1671s Giants after this border growth that is
1674s a very well-defended City against even
1677s if you know giant pushes
1679s giant over here sends all the units up
1681s to this city che chess is recognizing
1683s that this is a defensive vulnerability
1686s this city much more easy to defend so
1689s he's trying to put all the resources he
1691s can into the defense of this city very
1694s smart and talk about securing the
1696s villages in the west at the same time
1699s right if you pop a couple Giants over
1701s there on the front lines right you can
1703s just walk the giant towards the village
1705s very easily secure
1707s it yeah again his big problem is not
1710s over in the west he's been locking that
1712s down for a while now big problems all
1716s coming out over here in the East so
1718s gonna pick up a giant here as well yeah
1721s three Giants around defending this
1724s city and this is now a great opportunity
1727s for sand to try to get some catapults
1729s down um to counter the fact that he's
1733s got those three
1734s Giants and there's the first one
1741s she just playing passively on the South
1746s Side Southeast side but going riding and
1749s this is where he can start to turn the
1751s tide if he's able to get roads right
1753s roads are going to allow him to pick up
1756s pick off those catapults and make some
1758s really aggressive plays towards sand
1762s backline yeah this is a very common
1765s tactic you'll see in a lot of hood games
1767s where they don't go after kills on units
1769s like you normally do just because of the
1772s like omnipresence of or seeming
1774s omnipresence anyways of Defense bonuses
1777s with forests being everywhere cities
1779s being everywhere Warriors are basically
1783s dealt with at the point where they have
1785s one or two Health uh if they go in and
1788s attack any of your units they die to
1790s retaliation and do barely anything to
1792s you if they walk backwards and start to
1795s heal they're out of the game for several
1797s turns or effectively dead as you advance
1801s your archers in to take them out on the
1803s next turn after so we're seeing that
1806s here and the big thing is Imagine these
1809s two Warriors aren't here it's just a
1810s couple of Giants against this Army of
1813s ranged units which are never going to
1815s take any damage from them they just back
1817s up and start smacking them again also
1821s giant right next to the city a ton of
1824s pressure over here chess has to do a
1827s very accurate job defending
1830s happening at the same time as a couple
1832s of giants walking towards WWA you want
1835s to keep these Giants here so that if you
1838s ever get sieged you're able to deal some
1841s damage but keeping all your Giants here
1844s is also going to mean that you don't
1845s have any Giants to defend on this city
1848s again yeah because this Central Central
1850s City looks
1851s vulnerable absolutely it doesn't even
1853s seem like you know a giant push is going
1855s to happen here like there's a level
1857s three Sawmill it require some Monument
1859s aside from killer or Park of Fortune we
1863s talked about roads in Grand Bazar but
1865s that's incredibly
1866s expensive
1869s I'll and I'll say those Giants are going
1872s towards Wawa for a little more than just
1873s a
1876s sandwich so how does he want to defend
1879s he starts by just dealing damage keeping
1882s his giant in catapult
1884s range but just smacking it until it's at
1887s only half health this is really nice
1889s combat interaction Eno mentioned how
1891s hard it is to use one HP Warriors but if
1894s you weaken the Archer enough it can die
1897s to those one HP Warriors so able to get
1900s some use out of that Warrior
1904s um and then we see suuch respond with
1906s roads as well this is very common both
1909s players want the mobility offered by
1913s roads and now we see free spirit from ch
1918s for getting
1920s roads looking at
1922s Knights seeing that huge amount of range
1925s units all that pressure that sand is
1928s applying on the east side wanting to do
1931s something more about it than just Spam
1934s archers and
1936s Riders yeah he was CH was very
1939s aggressive in his defense making his
1942s archers really vulnerable but it ended
1944s up taking out the biggest threat to his
1946s position that one giant while it sends
1949s this other giant packing to the
1952s West uh and I want to highlight right
1954s here this is a very common idea just not
1957s just in this game but in all HRI games
1959s this catapult was trained on the city
1962s and it's been taking a lot of kills
1963s every turn but what El's been doing is
1966s blocking the ability to train any other
1969s units on this city catapults are really
1971s strong but they are uniquely slow they
1974s can't move and attack so while this
1976s catapults been here it's been blocking
1978s his ability to train other
1980s catapults he's been doing a very good
1983s job using his catapult get some things
1986s forward but it might not be enough and
1987s he might be looking at moving it off
1989s eventually or even

2057s 8hp giant is a liability right

2064s control for the ranged backline that s
2067s has been building up for this whole game
2071s so we're going to see how CHS is able to
2073s take advantage of this Landing this nice
2076s Siege and then boom there comes the
2079s Knight chaining
2081s through the
2084s backline no roads necessary immediately
2087s recapturing that very aggressive with
2090s these he pulled all of his opponent's
2092s units in he gave him a false sense of
2095s security I'm capturing this city I can
2098s Advance everything he doesn't have
2099s anything to deal with this before
2101s training Knights on these Frontline
2103s cities and his opponent's not able to do
2106s anything about it so ends up resigning
2108s this turn
2109s instead yeah can't blame
2111s him I think it was a beautiful bait by
2116s 2s recognizing that his opponent would
2119s feel confident with all those ranged
2121s units and that really solid push going
2123s forward and that that was really s's
2127s play for victory he needed to push into
2131s the Northeast towards chs's
2134s Capital uh and so to him that that city
2137s was the most important thing if he
2138s captured that City he was winning uh and
2140s Chu has kind of played with that
2142s psychological game a little bit
2144s recognizing that he would feel that way
2146s and using that to his Advantage so just
2149s really well played at the end there y

2162s you know I think the yeti Peaks o Sim
2168s you know o the game with Yeti Peaks I
2170s like that so we saw some different
2174s elements of HRI in this game uh we saw
2176s knights we saw organization
2179s start but this is a new map type right
2182s this is this is continents and
2184s continents brings with it another
2186s element that we don't see on drylands
2188s obviously fishing we see
2190s navies um yeah so let's show who's who's
2194s playing here first yes so AIC is m l
2199s lamp and Yeti Peaks is yeti Peaks
2205s yeah so I don't know if I want to bury
2209s the lead on this or not
2211s but course in the commentary Direction
2215s notes uh very much wanted to emphasize
2218s is what this game was all about his
2220s opinion was I think I'll share this with
2223s you minor minor spoilers markets versus
2226s no
2228s markets markets are expensive and hard
2230s to get but I mean how strong are they
2233s really Yeti Peaks and Meister are going
2236s to help show those off for us here
2239s absolutely and a cool part about
2242s continents
2243s is sometimes you get really interesting
2246s map generation where where you're
2248s fighting over a third sort of land mass
2252s and that can make continents really
2253s interesting because you have a
2254s combination of Naval and land units all
2258s converging on one location and we're
2260s definitely going to see a little bit of
2261s that
2263s here some standard opening like both
2266s players finding villages getting hunting
2269s upgrading their capitals and then
2270s upgrading the second cities all
2272s workshops notice Yeti Peaks though two
2275s ruins neither of them on mountains um um
2278s me has
2279s one advancing his Archer past the ruin
2282s thinks he'll find something better
2284s Archer wants to be more efficient in
2286s that movement pick up the ruin a little
2288s bit later and so far the uh the lines
2291s look quite even so nobody's like of here
2296s is is fourth City so he's got one more
2300s Village right now but huge star ruin for
2303s Yeti star ruin versus a swordsman
2306s ruin allows him to get fishing and
2312s Forestry sees that Coast tile to the
2315s west of his coastal city it knows
2317s there's land there and immediately drops
2320s the boat down trying to expand a little
2323s bit faster cuz he's down a city another
2326s star ruin for Yeti that's the second one
2329s yeah on turn eight lucky oh yep he is
2332s going to go for climbing he's felt lucky
2334s with the ruins so far so Why Stop Now y
2337s look at this this one connected to
2339s Meister by land but with those star
2342s ruins getting into the water sooner
2344s they're both going to pick up one
2345s Village on this strange Island over here
2348s I like to think of that as sort of a
2350s battle arena where they're just going to
2351s be facing off in this little ring then a
2355s population ruin after it the ruins have
2357s been very kind of Yeti Peaks way faster
2360s than getting in on the water way faster
2363s in getting this giant and I'm sure we're
2365s going to see another giant here this
2367s turn
2369s yep exactly Fortune level three
2372s Sawmill this is incredible for Yeti
2377s Peaks pushing out a bu of units looking
2379s for Navy as out of it his s spots are
2383s definitely more locked in uh
2386s together uh he also has an advantage
2389s four cities here three here so a fifth
2391s against five cities for Meer to four
2393s against
2394s theti and that beautiful border growth
2397s in his North City
2398s picking up the four forests that are all
2400s on that
2401s Sawmill then I spoke too fast look at
2405s this y peak's going to grab a fifth City
2408s so my's advantages are
2412s disappearing like it's no difficult to
2415s look at this position uh maybe in a
2418s previous version and be like what single
2420s Advantage does Meister have
2423s here
2424s but we will see he's not out of
2429s it get the
2431s lighthouse don't don't underestimate my
2434s St so so many games when he was like on
2437s on his back foot and then you know
2440s amazing wins for him
2442s so me is a very talented defensive
2446s player and can put up some really
2448s frustrating defenses against strong
2453s attacks wear his opponents down in Long
2456s games Yeti's played him before though
2459s frequent bullet player is yeti
2462s Peaks picking up another giant that is
2465s three Giants right there all going to
2467s become juggernauts in a minute yeah on
2470s the same turn that Yeti gets

2474s yep we have first Blood we do have first
2479s blood and here's an Explorer from Yeti
2482s Peaks going off to that Lighthouse but
2486s going to reveal that nice ruin and dig a
2488s little bit into meister's
2491s terrain G's vision's pretty
2494s good but me just has this really strong
2499s economy you know he he's got all these
2501s Giants he can get with these Sawmills
2503s that's another
2505s giant yep po connection for
2508s giant another nice thing about me's
2510s position he gets those support
2512s connections Yeti not so much mhm pulling
2516s the Giant in their defense Ely out of
2518s the water water access not lose a city
2522s water access on
2523s continents in capital is frequently
2527s described as one of the most important
2528s things you can have when looking at your
2530s initial spawn we're seeing the power of
2533s it here with those Port connections and
2535s there's another giant
2538s another yeah another star ruin for Yeti
2542s Peaks I see those I see some catapults
2547s already
2548s oh yeah catapults nice and defensive and
2551s it's a beautiful catapult right the
2553s water is protecting it from Land units
2556s uh it will just be able to rain down
2558s Boulders from safe side of the continent
2562s and Mar his play he's got the markets
2566s popping out this turn he only get one
2569s this turn but we already see the way he
2572s set up these however many turns ago he's
2576s getting ready Market spot here Market

2580s here the way that his cities are locked
2583s together very great for Market spots
2585s turn our attention to Yeti Peaks we have
2588s like a level three Market spot here and
2590s then a level two Market spot and that's
2593s about
2594s it we got like five stars per turn in
2597s Yeti's markets whereas Meister was going
2600s after them from the very beginning of
2602s the game the second he was planning out
2604s not even putting down his Sawmills but
2606s planning them out out and figuring out
2608s what Lumber Huts he was going to use
2610s what city needed border growth he was
2612s getting ready for exactly this he knew
2615s that this he was feeling that he was
2617s going to go for the long game and it
2620s worked out because in the immediate game
2622s he's not winning against Yeti Peaks who
2624s got on the water so
2626s quickly he's going to Siege with his
2628s giant here but with that catapult with
2631s all the stars that J he's dumped into
2633s the water it's going to be real
2635s difficult he isn't able to actually get
2637s that very nice defensive
2641s bomber yeah it's super little vulnerable
2644s but it's seems so safe as
2647s well I mean yeah my Lampa has like
2650s already twice oh my gosh of just like
2655s one turn after getting the markets we're
2657s seeing exactly why they're this strong
2660s 48 Stars per turn to 24 double the
2663s income already
2665s yeah but look at this
2669s yeah establish himself on the water but
2671s he's losing a lot of Health on these
2675s units The Archers using the roads in the
2678s land connection to take out that bomber
2681s from earlier a little too aggressively
2683s placed it's another great thing about
2685s going for markets is you get roads along
2687s the way and we can see that because
2689s Meers land connected to these two cities
2693s can use roads effectively to help
2696s defend Ed do you see do you see any kind
2699s of bridge play from yet Peaks so so he
2701s could do the
2703s same he would need a border growth in
2706s his West City to really look at strong
2709s Bridges um
2712s otherwise I think that would be later
2715s down the line for him he would need
2717s Knights or something like that to really
2719s be super
2720s threatening but 24 Stars per turn is
2723s still significant he can still use that
2725s to save up however right now
2728s as we can see he's spending a lot of his
2729s stars on getting rammers getting
2733s Scouts trying to establish Naval
2736s dominance it is working like Giants are
2740s getting
2741s melted you got to play defens TRS a
2746s aggressive catapult and immediately gets
2748s punished for it um
2753s mhm but those bombers for Yeti are
2756s putting in work
2761s giant gets melted this Giant's not going
2764s to do much on the water whereas look at
2767s all he's got okay one rammer one like
2771s half Health giant if it wants to enter
2773s the
2774s water if you can't put if you're not
2776s even able to put units into the water
2779s then it doesn't matter how many stars
2781s per turn you're making if they're all
2782s just getting completely destroyed by
2784s bombers and you have no way to Target
2786s them there's just absolutely no way to
2788s win you have to be aggressive about
2790s getting that stuff set up mhm and yetti
2793s is just choking Meister out of this
2796s game zero units on the water for Meister
2800s or one I should say one little Archer
2803s raft uses it to get a bomber look at
2806s that market income allowing him to do so
2808s much with his turn and now he
2811s transitions into
2812s Defenders and notice Defenders have 15
2815s HP they're tanky
2818s they can do a lot forcing Yeti to get
2821s more bombers lands a nice Siege another
2825s Siege denying you know 12 Stars per turn
2829s from me and the bomber is just stopping
2832s me from getting anything in these
2835s ports but but he already has catapults
2838s so he does cats fantastic defensive
2841s resource especially cuz Yeti only has
2843s Warriors to Siege with look at how safe
2846s those catapult are they can't be touched
2849s by Yeti's
2852s bombers so they're really making sing
2857s [Music]
2859s unattractive instead Yeti is going to
2861s have to opt for just trying to keep me
2865s off the water but notice Meister lands a
2868s almost full health Juggernaut has this
2870s really
2871s nice bomber Archer bomber that's been
2875s there for a few turns putting in so much
2876s work
2877s getting a beautiful veteran Rider
2880s Siege on we'll just pick up
2882s farming whatever he wants he can get
2886s just pick up farming for free pretty
2890s much yeah he uses another rammer to
2893s siege that City sends in the Scout to
2896s grab some
2898s Vision those catapults that's got to be
2901s a little concerning and oh boy oh that
2904s juggernaut's getting ripped apart
2907s and down goes Yeti's bomber and me is
2910s pushing
2911s in multiple juggernauts on the
2915s way it looks like he's getting back on
2917s the
2918s water I
2920s see he's getting Meister lamped oh yeah
2924s yeah now that he's got aquatis and this
2927s changes so much just the bombers are so
2931s much less effective especially because
2932s he's got so many stars if you can get
2934s Defender and juggernauts what a
2936s beautiful play look at that look at that
2938s M gets hit and you think oh he can't
2942s un but he veterans to
2945s uneg returns how much damage he's going
2948s to do and M lamp true champ his opponent
2950s resigns at this point he says look I see
2953s the markets I see the catapults I'm not
2955s Landing a Siege you're able to establish
2957s yourself on the water I wasn't able to
2959s succeed my goal of shutting you out but
2962s my like he wants to still show us what
2964s the rest of the turn was that he was
2966s planning he knows that we're
2968s watching he's going to damage that and
2971s there we go there's the
2974s bridge push his rider so that he can go
2977s ahead and smack that catapult sub oh man

2982s guy yeah he's an absolute
2985s Menace yeah fantastic play from Meister
2989s yeah despite the star ruins despite the
2991s pop ruins despite the early water
2994s Meister had one thing markets and they
2996s were just that strong well played well

3028s pretty strong they can soak up a lot of
3031s hits yep great game from especially from
3035s Meister Lampa but the his push from from
3037s ye paks was also like you
3040s know um yeah interesting so it was
3043s convincing I'll say that definitely
3046s could have won this game uh if not for
3050s those two catapults definitely yeah my
3053s lamp would wouldn't be able to to hold
3056s exactly yeah so maybe I'll even ask the

3283s although walking it out towards the
3285s center definitely more risky than M
3287s Lampe who walks it back towards his own
3289s Corner I've definitely gotten jump
3291s scared by walking my Shaman into an
3293s enemy Warrior on archipelago before so
3296s it can
3299s happen yeah big difference in these two
3302s Villages I guess Meister doesn't really
3305s have resources of any kind whereas a
3307s couple fungi that's a quick level three
3310s there and really aggressive walking his
3312s Shaman even further forwards but notice
3316s s now knows that Meister is right there
3319s he can see those
3321s borders in his vision from walking the
3323s shaman there yeah this is a tribe that
3326s doesn't have Bridges but they do have uh
3328s algae in hydrology which M picks up
3331s immediately because he wants to upgrade
3333s this city over in the East sees that as
3335s his best way to do it he's got a way to
3338s walk hexapod straight through to this
3340s Shaman here notice that Meister can see
3343s those coasts on those two water tiles
3346s and so he knows hey hydrology looks
3348s pretty good here for continuing to
3352s expand this Coastline especially there's
3355s land up here that goes to
3361s something now he does aripo I think
3365s moving your Shaman is not as as kind of
3368s you know dangerous as on the other Maps
3370s because it's the likelihood that you
3372s actually have a l connection with your
3375s opponent is is uh much much lower yeah
3379s absolutely he picks up an Explorer very
3382s dangerous because yeah Sim explorers
3385s don't walk on water he does find this
3388s Village here which directs his Shaman
3390s where to go but he is giving up a whole
3391s star per turn for the entire rest of the
3393s game to do
3396s that opponent going straight into fism
3400s picking up those RI whereas are going
3405s for a much more I mean conventional on a
3407s map like drylands or lakes but not so
3410s much on Ary for
3412s hexapods hexapods still useful
3415s especially if your plan is to turn the
3417s map into a landed one with AE everywhere
3421s but that's probably going to take a
3423s while fantastic population ruin into a
3426s quick centipede here and the boosted RI
3430s tearing the city apart m is going to go
3434s further into
3436s roads he wants to get these connections
3438s and this city will be connected all he
3440s has to do is place an algae south of the
3442s city Road Connections do go through
3444s algae they don't go through water so
3446s that will immediately upgrade this city
3448s you know some fish to get him to level
3450s three another Capital population so like
3453s it's only seven stars after that for a
3455s centipede so everything's looking nice
3458s the only thing that's not looking nice
3460s for Meister is Def like his prospects
3463s for defending this city here these pry
3466s on the water are
3468s dangerous and you know why do you think
3470s that he uh he's going for roads
3474s here I'm looking at it as
3477s you know he's transforming it into a
3479s landed kind of game
3481s maybe uh he's got everything going for
3484s him on land like he's got this really
3486s nice setup defensively with all these
3489s cities if he can use his hexapods attack
3493s run back like to where they're going to
3495s get boosted they get healed by the
3497s melium it gets him some easy like
3500s population on all of his cities gets him
3502s closer to his centipede it's very
3505s expensive though to pick up those kinds
3507s of tags do raes get slowed down with
3511s with algae or or
3512s not they don't get slowed down by
3515s algae okay can run straight through it
3520s okay but if me builds up a ton of
3525s algae then clais right the equivalent of
3531s trade for
3533s simanti looks pretty good and he's got
3537s some great spots for those clais so are
3541s you arguing that M lamps gameplay in
3544s this game and the last game is simply go
3548s trade have
3551s go but uses his two boosted hexapods and
3556s right there gets boosted and it's going
3558s to be healed by this melum at the end of
3560s the turn so he took no damage unsing
3564s that RI eight Stars gone from his
3566s opponent and he only lost two stars in a
3569s warrior
3570s four that
3573s okay look at this
3578s push comes in to RI killing the
3582s defensive
3584s units yeah it feels like Meister went
3586s with an interesting strategy with all of
3589s these TCH uh that you know like riding
3592s and roads going hydrology instead of
3596s ring
3597s and he's getting punished for it because
3599s thei just come in and they're very hard
3601s to deal with there's just so many of
3604s them and just also attacking like he's
3606s given his opponent with this algae that
3609s he placed an Avenue for the centipede to
3612s come in and it doesn't seem like there's
3614s any way that any reason I guess that me
3618s should be winning this he goes after
3620s that R she the much more threatening one
3623s right by a shaman and he's making sure
3626s to use this word is out of control could
3628s you switch to the separate Visions so
3631s yeah absolutely yes okay uh he there is
3635s a play for his opponent here he doesn't
3637s see the shaman there oh okay but he does
3640s have Vision here the ri if it were able
3643s to kill this
3645s Warrior um man this boosted one it moves
3650s immediately it was here at the start of
3651s the turn this boosted R he can walk all
3654s the way down kill this Warrior explode
3657s the segment and get a shaman kill this
3659s turn but he doesn't see the shaman there
3662s so he's just gonna go for the safer play
3665s okay um sieging this city and
3671s capturing but being aware of where your
3674s opponent's Shaman is always
3676s important absolutely and I'm gonna
3680s actually change it from the auto
3681s perspective to
3685s SZ perspective Ive
3688s uh going to see this pop up and we're
3691s going to see yep that algae pops up
3693s immediately upgrading gets the algae
3695s population and the roads and this this
3698s is the most important thing we see the
3699s warrior walk forward and then get
3702s boosted when we see this Warrior get
3704s boosted this Warrior over here does not
3707s get boosted so we know the shaman is on
3711s one of these three tiles where it can
3712s boost here but not on one of these two
3715s tiles where so that because it did not
3718s boost this Warrior here yeah
3720s mhm so we've narrowed it down we know
3723s exactly where the shaman is like I was
3725s talking about very
3726s important uh
3728s before he's now it's a
3731s Target but something happens on this
3734s turn uh misclick perhaps but he actually
3737s kills that Warrior knowing that the
3739s shaman is there ability to know maybe it
3743s was to walk in and then walk is RA for
3747s but ra doesn't reach and this absolutely
3752s turns the game around immediately he
3755s converts that
3757s um if he take stock
3760s without a fog it was four cities with
3764s him expanding to all these other ones on
3766s the water pushing RI that mice is having
3768s a really hard time dealing with and the
3771s centipede um forward and now
3774s everything's about to change
3779s he takes first that uh
3783s centipede he's going to use this algae
3786s so that he has or
3788s platform uh to use
3791s his um Warrior on here to
3794s upgrade because he wants this Warrior
3796s next to that
3800s City exping the
3802s segmenty and The
3805s Siege got to use two algae here instead
3808s of just one because he's lost that roads
3810s population but still able to get his own
3812s centipede his own Park of
3814s Fortune and getting a little more
3816s worried about his
3818s Shaman definitely doesn't want it dead
3820s his opponent two
3822s monuments to push back and I want to pay
3825s special attention to where these
3827s monuments are placed they're placed in
3829s these two spots right here um which make
3833s it very easy for him even if he does
3835s lose city which I mean just looking at
3838s the position um in all fairness it does
3841s look very likely that this centipede
3843s doesn't hold because it is against a
3845s couple of centipedes like the shaman
3847s boosting hexapods every like thr the
3849s kitchen sink in essence at the centipede
3853s here M probably will take this city back
3857s but he's going to delay it as long as he
3859s can he's going to try to fight and make
3860s sure that it doesn't happen and if it
3862s does happen not quickly and even if it
3865s does happen now if these two monuments
3867s here it's very difficult because he is
3871s bottlenecked like by in pushing on land
3873s he can only go through this one algae to
3876s this one land tile if he wants to start
3878s targeting this city in like a landbased
3880s attack which all of Meister units again
3884s meister's Tory doesn't have RI doesn't
3887s have even fichi like any units that can
3889s navigate these water tiles very
3892s dependent on alga algae and he's
3894s blocking these really nice tiles for
3896s algae already and Al are expensive five
3900s five stars per per one unit yeah in the
3905s me expanding out into the other sides of
3907s the map as well picking up those
3910s Villages that he can use to pump out
3912s even more
3913s ra uh if we look at his vision right
3916s he's sitting on two cities and then a
3919s third one next
3921s turn plus a
3923s ruin so he's going to have can't Target
3926s that ruin yeah Seven Cities in a moment
3930s here yeah I think his bizarre though is
3934s um in the defensive effort he actually
3935s gives his opponent a algae by exploding
3939s this RI oh no yeah he does and that
3944s gives was only able to be targeted on
3947s this one tile but now a couple and with
3949s these sen like hexpods being able to
3950s bounce backwards it actually ends
3953s up it would end up I guess I should say
3957s of Meister being able to kill but me
3960s responds by blocking his own fungi uh
3963s alga tile so that the centipede is not a
3966s target for him anymore so guess it's a
3970s little interesting play from both sides
3973s but notice the melium healing the
3975s poison
3979s um but s just
3983s Retreats does not want to engage with
3985s the massive amount of land units that
3987s Meister has right now he gets
3990s climbing looking at trying to provide

4021s now he just needs looks like he's going
4023s for it even twoo just a couple more
4026s algae is going to get him another
4028s centipede on the city look all the
4031s opponent's
4033s everywhere yeah and the score might be a
4035s little deceptive now uh if we look at
4038s that for a second you know 1200 Point
4040s difference but there was an 800 Point
4043s swing when me grabbed these two
4045s monuments
4047s uh taking stock of the position six
4050s cities against four and more
4052s specifically water units against units
4055s that can only push through this Al and
4058s not a lot of good places to do
4061s that as long as the shaman is safe
4064s imagine a centipede you know sieging the
4066s city it gets converted
4070s immediately very difficult but at the
4073s same time my set up really good
4076s defensive place for himself as well
4079s these hexapods we saw how two boosted
4081s hexapods would just tear through a RI
4084s when it sieges and then just get healed
4087s by the melum like nothing happened so
4089s it's really difficult for both players
4092s to move forward and this is where M
4094s Lampe starts showing off uh why he's so
4097s good at the game because he recognizes
4100s this immediately all his plan is all he
4104s really needs to do is build up his units
4107s build up his economy some like defend
4109s his cities as best as he can and then
4112s when he has attack he needs to start
4115s pushing I would say the same is true for
4118s both players here but what we're going
4121s to see is that um Meister is the only
4123s one who really does
4125s that whereas we're going to see a lot of
4128s really aggressive
4130s plays uh look at that really nice centy
4134s push getting vision of that that city
4137s that suuch has he makes a little mistake
4140s theget with his Shaman get a little too
4143s aggressive with
4145s it because with an explosion the ri
4148s frees up that tile and boom that's a
4151s dead Shaman this is a fantastic attack
4155s like with this um segment where it is
4157s and the two monuments blocking in algae
4161s it's Untouchable for Meister right now
4164s this centi is really just in there he is
4168s sacrificing the ra exploded the ra
4171s exploded to get this uh push here but he
4173s gets a shaman and he's going to have the
4176s centipede which is very difficult for
4178s Meister to
4179s kill uh very smart use of those
4182s monuments from earlier they were really
4183s well
4184s positioned but with the hexapod pushing
4187s in
4188s there um the attack Fizzles out here
4192s he's got to recollect himself M lamp was
4194s able to recover from that
4198s and does just that moving back and
4200s getting some more Vision but look at
4203s this Meister had the opportunity to go
4205s for trade this turn and grab clais but
4209s instead he goes
4211s philosophy I was really hoping after
4214s this philosophy 11 star trade get CL
4218s here here can definitely get clus
4223s regardless um but has very well set up
4226s for it and the big thing is yeah of
4228s course he's going to be able to buy his
4230s own Shaman
4234s now very aggressive he's sacrificing
4236s like her ra here in order to get that
4239s one centipede kill 20 24 stars to kill
4242s and he gets division
4244s yeah nice good play and just look at
4249s the REI getting melted here on the
4252s crackback and now there finally on turn
4255s 20
4256s 21 me decides okay I'm playing
4260s archipelago
4262s y finally picks up some of his own RI
4266s and he's got a shaman to boost it y that
4269s Shaman kill that he sacrificed so much
4271s for uh not much in the face
4274s of um philosophy and meister's just
4278s continuing to set up his
4281s algae continuing to basically grow
4286s attack I like to think of his position
4289s as sort of a bomb that he's waiting to
4291s drop on his opponent at any moment his
4294s units will just explode out in all
4296s directions at the same
4298s time really aggressive here like pushing
4301s everything in but and look at that
4304s algae hexapod Siege STI segment to block
4309s all the r are
4312s dead and now he's able to kill RI over
4315s on that side as well and beautiful play
4318s by meister and as we can see
4321s suuch can on
4323s Siege yeah Meister just collected his
4326s units waited until he was going to Siege
4328s and gain some like actually keep the
4331s city yeah as soon as he gains this
4334s city and he does it again yeah I'm
4337s speechless this game was even better
4339s than the than the HRI one I totally
4342s agree with you

4346s this is why meister's Meister
4349s yeah it's a beautiful play by Meister to
4354s close out that game and I think it's a
4357s great sample of simanti guest week
4361s bringing in some mechanics some
4364s strategies that you just will never see

4368s had that going on in this month I think
4370s it showed who understands not just
4374s hudrick but the game as a whole being
4376s able to apply some of the concepts that
4379s we were seeing in the earlier games to
4381s this game in new and unique

4446s explore over into the East we're seeing
4449s immediate um second fun guy to get that
4452s level three a little earlier whereas
4454s Chris is going to pick up a
4457s warrior uh level three a little
4460s later way later actually goes for that
4462s funy first and we're going to see
4464s archery
4466s over here normally yeah these I mean if
4470s you're simanti you got your two units
4472s that expand on the water well I mean
4474s you've got hydrology to make it that you
4475s don't have to expand on water then
4478s you've got um RI of course and then also
4481s your fi because these guys are air units
4485s they can fly over the entire map any
4488s kind of terrain with absolutely no
4490s penalties so no climbing necessary to be
4492s on this mountain here and what's really
4494s interesting about fight
4496s is if they move on to mountains they get
4497s the mountain Vision as well so they can
4501s make for very effective exploratory
4504s units um if there's a lot of mountains
4506s in your terrain yeah especially um in
4509s the you know kind of Rapid expansion
4511s game fi are really interesting because
4515s um they're much less expensive than RI
4517s you they're much more spammable in the
4520s early game just for exploring purposes
4522s they are a lot more frail of course uh
4526s they do gain that vision and that's
4528s really important for simanti because
4530s simanti is a tribe that their explorers
4533s can't go on the water tiles they have no
4535s texts that allow them to access any
4538s water tiles uh which is what dictates if
4541s an Explorer be able to walk over those
4543s or not so if either player you know
4547s picks up like an Explorer on this city
4549s oh hold on if I move it like this and
4552s turn off shared fog explore over here
4554s would seem great you know gets a lot of
4556s vision over in the west but simanti it
4558s just doesn't work like that M and also
4562s fi poison units so fi are great ways to
4566s make algae if your opponent is attacking
4568s on the water um which can be really
4572s helpful for setting up land bridges and
4574s attacks with centipedes they don't they
4577s don't get retaliation damage as well
4580s yeah yeah they're great well they're uh
4584s valuable units later on in helping out
4587s poisoning other units much less
4589s expensive than RI which means you're
4591s actually able to train everything so
4593s they work in in neat ways but generally
4595s not favored for archipelago maybe more
4598s on lakes you'll see them but Chris you
4600s pick up hunting here for that um level
4603s Care on this city yeah and then you get
4606s those Forest defense bonuses and those
4608s little funny Fly Guys
4611s yourself now we don't usually get to
4613s talk to the players about this but Chris
4615s you're here right now oh

4629s so when I got hunting right um I had the
4633s ability to use two animals to level up
4637s the Second City to level three so I
4639s basically get um one star extra for

4650s it's nice in that sense to get that free
4652s upgrade almost and uh have stars left
4656s over and then I was looking at do I want
4658s fishing um or do I want archery and I
4663s felt like in this position I saw the
4666s coast tile um Northwest of my second
4670s City and I saw the animal and the fish
4674s um near my capital and I thought oh I
4677s have some close cities um that I want to
4680s try to expand to oh and I also saw the
4683s cotile um west of my of the village that
4686s I'm sitting on so I'm thinking oh I have
4689s lots of villages close to me I want to
4691s try to expand quickly I think I'm G to
4694s get fichi uh instead of
4697s RI yeah so both players in this game end
4701s up going fi
4703s but both you know pretty solid reasons
4707s but it's a really equal if asymmetrical
4710s position with the one player getting the
4712s upgrades
4714s earlier um and you know hosting of
4717s course getting them these fi right away
4721s so I'm excited to see how this works out
4724s he immediately finds you with the Boost
4726s with the mountain vision and takes out
4728s your one fi uses the Stars he gets it's

4735s very important to you the why it's so

4858s get your own dancing Explorer

4877s trying your best to emulate Meister lamp

5034s you know being so you used to uh getting
5037s explorers with the other tribes so I I

5042s remember whether or not I misclicked
5044s there I don't think I did though I think
5046s I did want the Explorer um
5049s okay I really like this park of Fortune
5051s here just with the two fungi um you're
5055s able to get your centipede and then you
5057s know hopefully some AI pops up here you
5060s know a variety of ways you know blow up
5062s your own RI uh kill a poison unit you
5065s got a lot of stuff to deal poison damage
5068s um and then just you know Siege this
5070s city you know setting up aggression over
5073s here setting up aggression over here
5075s trying to use his land connection as as

5083s three lost featurs yeah so he's a bit of

5160s unfortunately he's still pushing in
5162s sieging that City I'm going to be able
5164s to pop a centipede up there with the the
5168s two fungi leveling up so nice little

5172s feed uh getting another segment being
5175s able to whittle away at those R

5185s it feels like a little too little too
5187s late even because his your opponent's RI
5190s here absolute monsters like tearing your
5194s army apart yeah and he look at how many
5197s R he's got up on that side of the map
5199s bringing in four ra definitely seals it

5207s know nice highlevel high income one in
5209s the west
5213s surrounded take note of the starfish I
5217s choosing favorites maybe yeah you don't
5220s have any on your
5221s side yeah didn't need them though you

5226s yeah like this game still it's very
5229s interesting to see the uh you know fi
5231s and I really do this is probably my
5233s favorite part watching the Explorers
5236s dance like that and both sides both
5238s sides got one of
5239s these we uh we both just thought it was
5243s in our best interest to dance a little
5244s bit and uh so we
5247s did very well actually Toby is a big fan
5250s of fichi and uh he he's using them a lot
5253s and recommending because you know people
5256s think that they are weak and actually
5258s don't bring anything to the game but uh
5261s he has this strategy of you know like uh
5264s 1,000 Cuts
5266s so yeah so he uses them a lot and I
5269s think it's a good unit actually I think
5272s fi have their place I think they're fun
5275s support unit for getting poison down
5278s getting more algae down but on smaller
5283s Maps simanti tends to want to get Rae
5288s because for eight Stars a 15 health unit
5292s that hits like a truck because it's
5294s boosted move four tiles um nothing
5298s really beats that in siman's
5301s repertoire and what's really really nice
5304s about RI is that they can explode so
5306s there's a lot of instances where you can
5309s use them to set up land bridges for your
5312s centipedes where you can use them to
5316s open up kills on Shaman like we saw with
5319s the game with sdge vers Meister where he
5322s opened up that kill for the shaman using
5325s the explode
5327s feature um
5330s and a lot of archipelago games
5333s especially you're going to have lots of
5334s water access so taking advantage of that
5337s being able to train multiple RI per turn
5340s RI versus fichi will almost always favor
5344s RI if fichi had 10 HP I might say
5347s something different but because RI have
5350s so much attack they need to be weakened
5353s significantly before they can't kill a
5356s fi anymore sure by significantly I mean
5359s the only time that a RI can't kill a
5362s fichi I believe is when it's on one or
5367s two HP I think that's the uh the
5370s calculation there and I'm also talking
5372s about the games you know against other
5374s tribes so it's not only the the like
5377s duels between simti it's oh it's
5381s fighting other other tribes navies
5384s against other tribes absolutely uh fichi
5387s can be wonderful if you can set up some
5389s algae on your opponent's side of the map
5391s it can actually really hinder them uh
5394s they been games I have played where you
5397s use fi to block your opponent's Port
5399s spots with algae and prevent them from
5403s getting a lot of Naval units so they can
5405s be very effective in that regard
5408s yeah absolutely pretending that you
5411s start a game already having fichi um the
5414s one thing about rachi is that they are
5417s expensive most of your if you have you
5420s know all coastal cities like you're
5422s likely to on archipelago you're likely
5424s not to have an average income of eight
5426s Stars per City and you're likely not
5429s able to take advantage of training units
5431s on all of your cities you know getting
5433s them in an army so fi just by virtue of
5436s being cheaper are already nice units
5438s they just help you get more units into
5440s the game and they help a lot in dealing
5444s damage uh you know the poison and then
5446s aachi sliding in will kill most of your
5449s opponent's units and if they have
5450s aquatis you've effectively negated it m
5454s also gives them more targets that they
5456s have to deal with very annoying units
5459s very
5460s pesky very easy
5464s to if I might say I think they're welld
5467s designed fi are a well-designed
5470s unit yeah I agree I think we have some

5595s itself yeah and it gets rid of these um
5598s like deep ocean tiles for most of the
5600s game I mean like I can count them on my
5603s uh hands for the entire

5616s to get into the water but also um
5620s getting into the water um from

5869s because I see like great Market spots
5871s with these cities so connected to each
5874s other like a lot of Samos and markets
5876s right next to each other you even higher

5880s chopped but over down here in the
5884s East uh this is maybe just contributing
5889s to this one single Market spot and maybe
5891s a second with border
5894s Groove but I think I'm seeing already
5896s the ways in which you're going to be
5897s pulling ahead in this
5899s game managing to find that island island
5904s y your city yeah your Tech are looking
5907s great for you to be able to because it
5909s is you know in the markets a lot of
5911s techs but with you know so few cities
5914s and also so high level cities uh you're
5917s getting 18 stars per turn and writing is
5920s still only costing
5921s seven indeed and I saved some stars
5924s there Seven Stars left
5926s over um preparing for that and your
5931s opponent doesn't have immediate access
5932s to your city so that's so so yes there's
5936s a little choke point
5938s and we talked about the game afterwards
5942s um he and I talked about the game and he
5945s said his biggest regret um at in this
5949s position right here around turn 12 and
5952s turn 11 was that he wish he had attacked

5955s earlier put applied more pressure yeah
5959s yeah if he' like pressuring the city
5962s from the water like a bom or something
5965s maybe not uh well if we check your
5968s vision actually uh bomber seems very
5971s possible uh yeah maybe not on stars
5976s but um you're not going to be able to
5978s shoot that and he just starts taking out
5981s that City like stopping you from
5983s developing into the water at all yep
5986s roads riding and roads before the city
5988s capture we're going to see an Explorer

5994s this Explorer much more kind to you than
5996s the last one yeah Capital Vision I can
5999s finally see what he's been cooking over
6002s there Explorer ruin that walks all the
6004s way around that Lake very important
6007s Explorer ruin actually because now he
6010s has that Lighthouse so he's got three
6012s out of the four
6014s lighthouses um this one doesn't seem
6016s that hard for him to get in his own
6017s Corner well as a free giant it granted

6042s per turn over him but he goes ahead
6044s picks up his own markets although I
6047s don't think he' planned out his Market
6048s spots as well earlier on which is going
6051s to show throughout the rest of the game
6053s mhm but he does have markets now and can
6057s place more of them because he has more
6059s cities so he's able
6062s to kind of contest that
6065s way there we go he's actually pulling
6068s ahead economy wise but he does have more
6070s cities you know techs are more expensive
6073s and in a watery game like this you need
6075s a lot you want all of these tchs very
6078s expensive the more cities you have take
6082s a look at this cute little play here
6084s yeah pushing the Catapult towards the
6087s Giants the catapults great at blocking
6089s him out um in the
6092s water and yeah going all the way in
6095s destroying the Juggernaut making sure to
6096s damage this one because this city is
6099s vulnerable here to a juggernaut ination
6101s but is surrounded by a couple other
6102s Juggernauts and catapults so something
6106s to think about but not be too worried
6108s about exactly and fantastic use of uh
6111s the port connections
6114s like straight through the city getting
6115s more population over there um upgrading
6119s these cities going to be very useful on
6121s that City gol uh I'm assuming and and
6124s take a look at this play here getting
6126s this massive border growth right really
6129s controlling all these tiles like no
6131s roads from you mhm and now look at where
6134s he puts the warrior into that um port on
6138s the North
6139s tile yep so that's going to be looking
6142s at that last l
6146s yeah yeah you've got no problems unsing
6149s over there and taking care of this
6152s Juggernaut as
6155s well and getting riding having riding is
6158s I should say allowing for a bit of an
6161s more active defense using those Riders
6164s to pick off archers without retaliation
6168s damage the they just get around here
6174s yeah you guys are trading your
6176s juggernauts in here but like you kind of
6178s have to if you just um give up the
6180s opposition and just allow them to do
6183s whatever um they start taking cities and
6186s everything foring these exch
6189s um Raichu is doing Oru in the East right
6194s getting those three catapults setting up
6197s a defense on that side of the
6199s map shivalry shivalry yeah this is
6204s something you know this is something he
6205s affords because of by virtue of so few
6208s cities such high level Market
6210s spots this is little Skirmish that's
6213s been going on here for the last coule
6214s turns I've been ignoring it but it is
6217s kind of funny it's has been going on in
6218s the background and we both were paying
6221s attention to it I remember thinking when
6223s I was playing this game I was like is he
6225s gonna shoot my warrior over there and
6227s then the very last like move he would do
6229s on his turn would be to move that Archer
6231s and shoot the Warriors and I was like oh
6233s because I wanted him to pass the turn
6235s and forget about it because there's a
6237s little ruin down there mhm now this city
6241s seems you know snuggly yours uh does
6245s have you know some roads to place like
6246s get these couple Warriors in couple
6249s catapults but it seems like you know you
6251s survive just barely here except for the
6254s fact that he has this Monument that he
6257s just gained with his eye of God and he's
6259s even able to not even use the monument
6262s just get some population and Houdini you
6266s Chris oh gosh oh not in my Redemption
6270s what I thought this is my Redemption
6271s game you know not supposed to be
6274s getting
6277s um but yeah this is a little bad for him
6281s actually even the Houdini is nice of
6283s course you know eliminate that giant
6284s yeah why do you have that way he

6321s down very nice defensive resource
6324s But ultimately it is in range of all
6326s these catapults still the Giant's still
6328s at full health he hasn't built up the um
6331s Machinery uh to defend properly and from
6334s this position like no water access a
6338s tiny City count um just sitting and
6341s waiting while your opponent sets up you
6342s know their higher level like more like
6344s just access to more markets period Chris
6347s you turned it
6349s around you know after this game was over
6352s I remember going into the polyam
6354s discussion Channel and just saying I'm
6356s shaking that's all I said that's all I
6358s said to and
6362s uh you know this was uh this was on the
6364s polyam finals that happened uh a little
6367s while ago
6371s and I think this really set the tone for
6373s the rest of the day for me because I did
6374s end up winning the other three games
6377s that I played after this but I just want
6381s to compliment um
6384s my opponent here in this game playing
6386s very very well the Houdini was
6389s unexpected and I was like oh no cuz I
6392s thought he was going to turn it around
6394s getting the eye of God as well and
6397s unlike the game with me versus Yeti
6400s Peaks um both players get markets here
6404s and you can see how much it changes the
6405s dynamic of the game I mean look how many
6408s ports are on that one coastal city that
6411s is a 49 Stars worth of ports just right
6416s there uh and the fact that both players
6418s can afford that is pretty
6422s impressive and I just found this map
6424s very interesting as in know said not
6427s often you see a map like this showing up
6431s you know and sometimes Lakes maps are
6434s heavily influenced by things like
6435s starfish but realistically neither
6438s player needed to get the starfish or
6441s even wanted to you know they weren't
6444s in their corner but I'm but I'm very
6446s curious what what did your opponent say
6449s about this like kind of being slow at
6450s the beginning because we also have to
6453s you know note that that it's like he
6455s gave you all the time to kind of
6457s expand um so yeah he um we had that
6462s little early Game Exchange where we meet
6465s each other and kill a couple of each
6467s other's units and he sort of
6470s Retreats um and I think
6474s that was probably his biggest regret uh
6477s if I as I mentioned before you know we
6479s have these this little early game
6482s Skirmish M and he sort of backs off and
6486s I think that in hindsight he does end up
6488s regretting this choice to to back off
6493s here to stop playing you Dev what what
6496s was it like did he feels safe and
6498s confident confident that he'll like um
6502s you know be be uh quicker on the I think
6507s this this explorer was what really made
6510s him feel secure okay mhm he sees that I
6514s have three
6516s cities and no water access realistically
6521s or very little water access probably M
6524s um meanwhile he's he has five and if you
6528s look at the score screen right about now
6532s this is reflected in the score
6533s right I'm about 800 score behind which
6535s is roughly the equivalent to two
6538s cities so he this is sort of this the
6543s typical win by more cities type of game
6546s where if you just sit back and let you
6548s and grow your economy then you can win
6551s later on in the game I think what really
6553s turned it
6555s around and what what I think he wasn't
6558s necessarily accounting for was how
6560s annoying the catapults would be
6563s on my side of the lake uh it's very hard
6568s for him to touch them at any point in
6571s the game um they're quite
6574s protected and that meant that despite
6577s the fact that he has lots of Giants and
6579s he puts them into the water quite
6581s quickly uh they do just get shredded by
6584s those catapults and
6587s then his coastal city goes from being
6590s really really good because it has all
6591s this water access and all these
6593s resources to being a liability because
6596s all the catapults are looking at it um
6599s so anything he makes there just gets
6601s killed juggernaut's going straight into
6603s it
6607s yeah yeah replay this turn then um after
6612s getting Houdini need a really simple
6614s recovery because of those
6617s catapults exactly and having the Knight
6620s that turn I realized I didn't think he
6622s was going to H me but I realized that
6624s whatever he did on defense would
6626s probably involve advancing his catapults
6630s and using up all of his support units so
6633s the Knight here is a threat of chaining
6637s through those backline units if they
6638s stay where they are uh and the fact that
6642s heinies me just makes that knight uh a
6645s little bit
6648s better absolutely he resigns just a turn
6651s after good game
6655s okay um yeah we have
6658s um this HRI simti pole so it's yeah
6664s pretty much equal yeah so Sim Sim simti
6667s is winning but it's like 58 to 42 12
6671s votes so I guess our audience enjoyed
