6s game we have lined up it goes deep into
8s the late game and we see everything from
11s cloaks and bombers to markets and nights
13s let's get into it my name is fster

19s we're both pros and we're here to break
21s down this polium game between jasc
23s Poland and Arthur polium is the official
26s monthly tournament format run by the
27s creators of the game if you want to

32s below all right so spawning here in the
34s west side this is jask Polland and
38s spawning in the East this is Arthur so
41s right off the bat jich has pretty good
44s resource rates he's got five fruit in
46s his Capital that's going to allow him to
47s get his first two upgrades with just a
50s single Tech that's going to be a nice
51s economic Advantage for
53s him and if we turn our attention over to
55s Arthur not quite as good four fruits not
58s enough for that level three City that
60s that J's going to have and if we turn
62s our attention to that Village on the
63s shoreline it's not enough to even
65s upgrade that City over there but let's
67s see what the players do of
71s this starting off both of them going
73s with a warrior
81s first Jas of course going with fruit
84s yeah so he can get those first two
88s upgrades Arthur I was well going for
90s organization although again not quite as
92s good for him he takes and then explore
95s instead of a
97s workshop see what this Explorer finds it
100s back and forths an awful lot in the
102s middle of the map uh kind of avoiding
104s going too deep into jx's territory
106s that's kind of rough for Arthur but he
108s definitely has all the vision that he
109s needs at least in the short term jasc
112s also going for an Explorer
116s first getting much better information
119s seeing all of Arthur's cities including
121s his
123s Capital really important here because he
126s was able to move one turn earlier as
128s host his Defender is actually going to
130s reach that Village in the far south
132s before Arthur
136s does yeah Arthur's going to see that so
138s he's not even going to go for that
139s Village just going to go send his
141s Defender over to the
146s ruin got this tight compact of City set
149s up but jx's going to try to attack with
152s everything through this little
154s bottleneck
156s there a veteran swordsman's great for
158s defending so jasc picks up archery gives
161s all of his units these Forest defense
163s bonuses as well as these nice archers
166s which we're going to see in a few turns
169s probably going to see that a lot sooner
171s Arthur already has his first Archer up
173s jasc following suit making two of his
175s own capturing his fourth city in the
177s back and getting a workshop
184s and Arthur's population capped on the
186s city up here so he's going to have to it
188s get ready to un Siege on the next turn
191s which is delaying his attack over there

195s Southwest yeah I don't know how much I
197s even love the decision of jich to Siege
199s this city with this Defender um he could
202s have taken out this Warrior which had
203s one HP when he moved this
205s on so that might have been a slightly
208s better use cuz you know killing one
209s Warrior there was like two stars of
211s inconvenience for Arthur whereas denying
213s income from this base was only
215s one but it's an interesting choice maybe
217s he felt like it wasn't worth killing it
219s because keeping that Warrior alive might
221s have been uh preventing him from being
222s able to make another unit due to that
224s population cap that you
228s mentioned Arthur is finally able to
230s advance with some of his units here
232s pushing his swordsman down into that
234s Village in the southwest getting ready
235s to
237s Siege oh yeah Arthur is implying a lot
239s of pressure here um all Jay can really
242s do from this base even is just Spam out
244s Defenders over and
248s over go that's a really nice but yeah I
251s don't see any way for jask to break
255s that or for using forestry to finally
258s get that one city to level
264s two oh and
266s diplomacy that's an interesting choice
272s you The Archers are already applying a
274s ton of pressure right now but he's
277s trying to increase you know add some gas
279s to the fire with cloaks to support later
283s on yeah Arthur's got a nice concave over
286s here he doesn't have a lot of units
288s right now and there are a lot of archers
290s for jasik so if jasik is able to push
292s his way forward and actually get that
294s cloak to land especially on some of
296s these larger
297s bases that with the forest defense bonus
299s is going to make a lot of daggers that
301s are going to be really really difficult
302s to kill so Arthur is really going to
304s have to make a really really tight
306s defense
307s here especially as Jas adds even more
310s going climbing so that he can push his
312s archers in even deeper to archers
313s territory we're seeing a lot of
315s Defenders from Archer he's just trying
317s to survive this position right
327s now JC now he's going to go head his
331s killer Monument down both players are
333s getting ready for Giants looks like but
335s it looks like J's the one who actually
337s has the resources to pulling off Jason
339s could have taken a giant this last mind
341s with that
342s Lighthouse yeah that Lighthouse arer is
345s actually going to be able to do it
350s first yeah first giant out on the field
352s drops the monument for that level three
354s to get those additional resources j6
356s discovering another Village up in the
359s north so it looks like he might be able
361s to get more established in that area
362s first and he goes for fishing to take to
364s the
369s water those cloaks were trained a long
372s time ago but it's taken them a while to
373s get across the map and by the time it
375s looks like they're about to be hitting
377s they're going to be attacking these
378s higher level cities where arur has been
380s producing Giants
382s from so a lot of foresight was required
385s in that call but it looks like it'll be
387s paying
388s off I'm impressed that far with how well
390s Arthur is holding here but I mean he has
393s this nice concave around here whereas j6
396s units are all trying to push through
397s this narrow choke so he's making really
399s good use of his defensive terrain just
402s the way the map generated is kind of
404s giving him a hand here and making this
407s hold going to see a nice Lighthouse to
410s give him his first

413s giant he's setting up a space for that
416s cloak to go through into Arthur's
418s capital
422s the dagger infiltration you got last
423s turn maybe not the best with
426s um only on a level two City only two
429s daggers yeah Arthur sees that there's
432s another cloak here the only tile that it
433s can be based on the other units that he
435s has he knows the cloak is here so he has
437s to find a way to be able to reach it he
441s chops a tree to build a road so he can
443s actually get his Warrior to move there
445s to reveal kills the cloak and then uses
447s that same Warrior to uh take out another
449s Archer sure he's getting really units
456s yeah another cloak made up in the north
459s too jx's planning to try to take this
461s last base up
463s here Arthur gets expore so he's going to
466s see it ahead of time also gets a
468s lighthouse the Explorers have been
469s pretty good about actually getting the
471s lighthouses in this game jx's picking up
472s two on one explorer was
477s nuts absolutely
480s how densely packed all of Arthur's units
482s are these cloaks are seeming it's really
485s hard for them to make any way here
487s except on the
489s water yeah I want to turn our attention
491s to this North Area really quick Jas like
494s Arthur saw that J's cloak was here and
497s then sees it vanish so he knows it can
498s only move two it would have had to be in
500s one of these tiles if it was moving
502s closer to this base so with there only
504s being two possible tiles for the cloak
506s to be on since this one's occupied by
507s the warrior Arthur is going to find a
510s way to un siege that he moves these
511s units here to check to find out if it's
513s here moves in there and sees this eye
516s icon so he knows it has to be here he's
517s going to move his rider there which is
519s going to reveal and then pull
522s back so really good job mind sweeping
524s that
526s cloak and Arthur's just going to keep
528s building up units up there to try to uh
531s hold on to his control of the north
533s solidify it if he's able
538s to Chase makes an interesting move here
541s which is moving the cloak straight
543s through the warrior to the other side
545s Arthur's going to be able to see that I
547s Ion on two of his units but that's only
549s going to narrow it down to three spaces
551s so he's still going to have to mind
552s sweep to find that
555s one resources from a ruin pretty nice
558s he's able to find that cloak right away
560s reveal it and kill it off and he
562s continues to macro up this this top base
565s he's now got like four units up here to
567s j62 so Arthur is getting
570s uh he's kind of made himself a bit safer
572s up in the north than he
575s was absolutely he's still fighting for
577s his life it's a struggle but he's kind
581s of almost thriving even with the way
583s he's able to deal with these cloaks get
585s so many of his own Giants and ping down
587s these archers J's attack doesn't stop
589s though because now he's using those
591s ports he made earlier to continue into
593s the water which is another place that
596s Arthur is weak
598s from yeah Arthur still does even have
600s fishing he has no presence on the water
603s um and since he sees that uh Jason's
605s been going for that he's just going to
607s level up his face further up north get a
609s giant up there just so that he can kind
611s of make himself a bit safer um he's not
614s really under that much threat over there
616s but that is creating a nice juicy Target
618s for one of these
620s cloaks

625s absolutely I don't know the economic
627s Advantage is swinging towards arth
630s though he's up to 28 Stars per turn
632s whereas j6 only got
634s 22 um they're trading a lot of units
636s here in the center but no one's really
638s making too much directional progress
639s although Arthur is starting to push back
642s of course now Arthur is going to have to
644s contend with this same choke that's only
645s two tiles wide for both of these spaces
648s it's going to be
650s tough it's going to be hard for abely
653s huge here is that he's taking
655s advantage oh yeah no go ahead he's
657s taking advantage of those roads he
658s bought earlier to buy markets further
661s cementing his economic
664s lead jic has always been wanting to
667s attack but now if he doesn't attack
669s Arthur is just going to keep getting
670s more and more and more stars until he
675s wins this is an interesting defense that
677s we're making up in the north So based on
680s the ions that we see on these two units
682s uh Arthur knows that the cloak is here
684s but there's nothing he can do to find it
686s because he hasn't been in the water he
687s doesn't have any units in range that can
689s reach that and since he didn't border
690s grow the city he can't even like drop a
692s port to walk in so what he's trying to
695s do is just seal off the like a wall here
699s so that the cloak won't be able to reach
701s cuz the cloak would have to hit this
703s base from the water it would have to
705s reach back here otherwise it would have
707s to land and then infiltrate on a second
709s turn so he's just trying to block
711s everything so that the cloak won't be
713s able to get to this one tile that it
715s would need to be able to reach to
717s hit so it's a pretty good defense
720s meanwhile just macroing up further
721s getting these markets he's got nearly
724s double j6 economy
729s now j6 response requires some Precision
733s but with the bomber Scout and Juggernaut
735s he can clear it just like
737s this this was a great attack by Jas the
739s infiltration goes
742s through like I thought that he was going
744s to use this bomber to help clear but he
745s instead used all of his other units so
747s that he could keep this bomber freed up
749s Splash and then the Juggernaut Splash
752s that he was able to infiltrate that was
753s a really really clean uh attack up
756s north and uh Arthur's definitely in a
759s little bit of trouble up there although
761s a little bit of trouble down here for
762s jask because we've got he he's out of
765s Giants on the ground and Arthur's
767s closing in on this base in the center of
769s the
771s map meanwhile just another upgrade and
774s another small Market coming down for
776s Arthur he's way ahead economically
781s he went from
782s struggling uh trying to fighting for
785s surviving to almost surviving here on
788s the
790s land yeah I'm definitely starting to
792s like Arthur's position um having much
796s economy yeah yeah Arthur really needs to
800s get out onto the water but instead he
802s decides to go for free spirit and
804s chivalry burn this base to the
807s ground um
810s and start making Knights I actually want
811s to like just pause really quick and and
813s take a look what do you think in know
815s about this decision uh to burn this base
817s down because actually just this turn
820s Arthur got the rest of his Road
822s Connections and he connected all five
824s bases to his Capital so he actually has
827s a monument available he could un Siege
829s this Base by popping a giant with just
831s taking two fish and dropping the
832s monument in that empty space um what do
835s you think about his choice to instead
837s Burn the City down what definitely seems
840s like he's going all in on Knights he
843s sees that he's weak on the water but he
845s recognizes his opponent has a weakness
847s on the land look at all of those archers
850s a single Knight that he can push through
852s there means that that center city is
854s going to be lost and he can push all the
856s way to his Capital even I don't think
858s Arthur has a lot of faith in his ability
860s to push on the water here although maybe
863s it would have been a little bit better
864s he would have lost a monument but giant
867s push on that City And Delay his uh
870s sabotage attempt up there by just one
873s turn yeah I think he might have been
876s able to delay for up to two uh I think
878s jask has a uh another bomber in the fog
882s maybe so maybe that's why he decides to
885s just Burn the City to the ground but if
887s he had thrown down the monument and then
889s later burn down the monument he would
890s have put that City so deep into the red
892s uh jasc wouldn't be able to pull a
894s profit on that City oh no yeah there
896s wasn't even another bomber in there so
898s he could have he uh popping a giant up
900s there definitely would have held for two
901s extra turns but maybe maybe Arthur just
904s thought that it wasn't worth it like he
906s didn't see this base as
909s defensible uh just because of the
911s control that jasik has over the
920s water Arthur's rear archers are doing a
922s nice job clearing out daggers that hit
924s on this base the economy like on paper
928s is strongly in favor of Arthur but j6
931s cloaks are landing often enough that
933s every time it if you know if it pulls
935s six stars from one base and drops it off
937s on the other it it's actually his cloaks
939s are kind of evening up the economic
941s disparity here even though he doesn't
942s have nearly as much spt on
947s paper another cloak entering the water
954s absolutely J has to be a little scared
957s about these uh this night but he's
961s splitting up all of his
963s archers not splitting them up well
965s enough five kills from one night coming
968s through clears out all these units
970s around the front and five units is
972s actually that's as many units as Jason
975s can make in a turn so um he loses
978s anything else this turn then his army
979s just got a little bit
982s smaller ability to defend on the land
985s much
988s worse yeah and there's not enough of
991s these cloaks getting the defense bonus
993s he's got three bombers uh in the water
996s though now if he starts creeping those
998s bombers forward and Arthur isn't a he's
1001s able to deny Arthur the ability to get a
1004s foothold in the water it might be very
1006s very difficult for
1008s Arthur like these Knights are doing
1010s amazing work at clearing out these
1011s cloaks but unless he's able to find some
1014s way of pushing forward either by sea or
1017s land um Jas is just going to be able to
1019s build up a stronger Navy and eventually
1021s take
1022s over interestingly though Arthur's
1025s taking control of this small Lake in the
1028s South um jask doesn't have any way of
1030s getting into the water here he can't
1032s border growth his his remaining cities
1034s um and the one water tile he has access
1036s to isn't actually safe so even though
1039s jask has had water control for the
1041s entire game he doesn't have a way of
1043s getting it in this South Lake
1054s Arthur really pushing forward a lot
1057s here bomber's doing tons of Splash
1059s damage he's able to this but there's
1062s still a 36 Juggernaut um right next to
1066s that base
1067s waiting and jasik doesn't have quite
1069s enough units he might have just enough
1071s units to un Siege between the bombas and
1074s The Archers but his archers get taken
1076s out by a knight the Giant sieges
1080s and jik resigns the
1082s game Arthur's gamble pushing on land
1085s Over the Sea ended up working winning in
1087s the game or maybe it was because of his
1089s attack from the second Lake I guess they
1091s don't call it Lakes for no reason either
