188s heard a lot of people uh were like

196s skin very much so uh good good job uh

205s through the blog post so first of all um
208s it says spread Darkness with thean
211s midnight
212s skin among the darts spooky Forest
215s resides the midnight cult and um
219s Insidious group ofion that worship and
222s draw their power from the mysterious sh
225s Shard or
228s n um they've set their sides on the
231s transforming the square into endless
233s Dark Forest populated by hungry uh dire
237s wolves corrupted dragons and sh
241s demons yeah so the first uh the first
244s change is um instead of Poors the
247s midnight cult prefers to uncover the
250s graves of the deceased and revive them
253s as shadowy beings known as
256s demons building Crypts uh will allow you
260s to uh uncover uh more of these Graves
263s grave sites in uh in your forests yeah
267s so Toby how do you like the this this
269s change because this is uh a lot of um
273s like the the Polaris kind of style of
276s claiming the land so there's still the
279s uh the lyrian terrain visible but um but
284s the midnight cult has to claim the
287s lent I actually really like the effect
290s whereas pois was traditionally the only
292s one that really had like some sort of
294s encroaching threat that was visibly well
297s visible as you watch the entire terrain
299s get converted to snow
300s now you can just watch every just the
302s darkness spread across the land uh as
305s midnight takes over MH okay cool um so
310s the magic that fuels the nightmarish the
313s desires will spread to the land
316s and um the land they conquer functioning
320s as an indicator of their strength yeah
322s so this is actually what what we already
324s said that uh not all the Alan terrain
328s will be uh will will be visible as um as
333s the midnight right um and all the units
338s were changed so even the mighty fire
341s dragons aren't immune to the corruption
343s to the corrupting influence of the uh
346s Shard Dan uh and have uh lent their help
349s to spread the darkness so how do you
352s like the the units
355s um I definitely like the uh demons that
359s get summoned the
361s different variation and what kind of un
363s because instead of going um me me I'm
365s very much a collector so instead of
367s having a whole bunch of different units
369s I'm trying to find uh like okay well I'm
373s gonna create this sanctuary in this spot
375s so I can get some turtle
376s tars um n you just you get demons and
379s they look really really cool especially
381s in all the different colors besides just
383s the typical Lyon and pink so like
386s honestly with the uh demons with uh the
390s zazi orange look more like a
392s charcoal and like if I had a choice I
395s would actually be playing as orange for
397s them all the time because I think every
399s looks really really really
401s cool um but I know that you had some
405s kind of dislikes about the the daggers
407s and something else I remember that from
410s your live streams yeah it was mostly
412s because the daggers didn't really get a
414s difference they're still just cloaks
416s people but um it's at the end of the day
419s it's a it's fine it's probably something
421s that's not going to come up too much
422s anyways as cloaks aren't too common or
426s prominent but whenever we do see the
428s change that every unit gets an update
430s and then there's literally one unit that
431s doesn't I I I just get a little sad of
433s going well this one got left
436s out yeah I have one one maybe small note
439s about the the dragons I think they they
441s should have added you know like a
444s different color fire or maybe you know
447s like an acid because right fire you know
451s like a the previous fire dragon and now
454s it's just you know like a black fire
458s dragon yeah so in in this instance I
462s would have uh changed
464s the yeah what dragons spit out of their
468s uh
471s mouth yeah but in in general it's uh
473s it's it's it's a it's a great upgrade
477s um yeah and actually
480s yeah I was I was I was uh I I forgot
483s actually to uh to ask you to to
485s introduce yourself a bit because um
488s probably not everyone knows you um yeah

510s trying to show hey you don't have to
512s play meta tribes in order to win we have
515s played quite a bit against quite a bit
517s of semanti and still had a good win rate
519s so literally every tribe we play we're
521s able to make it work against the average
523s Joe out
524s there um one one other thing is is even
528s though I haven't been prominent on the
530s competitive scene uh much lately but I
532s am also on the uh Reaper team which is
535s currently going through some renovations
537s right now uh along with like a little
540s mini casual tournament going on the
543s inside yeah so uh the link to Toby's

555s Sunday yeah so I think that's pretty
558s much it as it comes to um to this uh
564s introduction kind of phas so we can we
567s can move on to to playing some games uh

618s Mystic old Relic fueled by Darkness
622s through necromancing practices they can
624s summon demons from graves in the dark
628s forests uh and for competitive of games
630s that are 2v2 this would be an excellent
631s pick to also pick up with the cultists
634s so you know just for thematic
641s purposes yep so let's let's play some
644s random I gota wait my opponent to go
646s ahead and accept the game there we
654s go so we'll see how this one goes not
657s going to lie this start is mediocre we
659s at least get a Village right off the bat
660s we're going to start off by doing the
663s traditional uh well in this case demon
666s push and try to get some extra
675s distance looks like our
678s opponent our opponent is also playing as
681s Aion so we'll see if they're also using
683s the midnight skin or not
687s yep um nothing else to do with our Stars
689s so we get to pass the
691s turn this demon on top is going to be
693s migrating around the top this Demon's
695s going to be going around the north side
696s of the mountain while we capture this
699s Village we will not be picking up any
701s texts due to how many stars we currently
704s have and based on Relic placement our
707s opponent's probably somewhere here in
709s the South mm are you're thinking about
713s some sanctuaries or oh yeah we've got
715s what kind of
716s play uh I typically love to do a uary
720s Strat where I get to summon a whole
721s bunch of demons I know a lot of people
722s prefer to use it as just pure economy
724s which is very valid it's a solid
728s strategy
730s um but we're going to go ahead I don't
732s need to pick up the technology now I can

889s go that hurts my soul we're gonna
892s Warrior just on the village and pass the
896s turn but we get to do some strats so
900s right now this unit is currently facing
902s towards this tile if we train a demon
906s it'll get pushed over to here allowing

909s to never mind it's blocked

947s get riters are going to be pretty strong

962s uh uh an Explorer so I'd rather make
965s sure I don't get one mhm swordsman would
969s be unfortunate so that's the most likely
974s outcome not going to lie either stars or
976s technology would be great that's all I'm

985s mm's doing a good job in preventing me

1005s of units we're actually going to train a
1007s warrior here not a

1017s Shenanigans we have to keep in mind that
1019s our opponent did zip over this way so
1021s we're going to try to keep our eyes out
1023s to see if they get uh 280 more
1028s points but our last uh kind of fear is
1032s they're currently working their way
1033s around here to the West so that's what
1036s this Rider is here to do is to help cut
1038s them off all right they did pick up
1040s another city M probably the
1044s spor it's more than likely right here

1052s so what you reckon um going I know for
1056s for a land battle
1057s or there's would you rather go go
1060s sailing and and try to establish water
1064s domination I think as long as I continue

1245s be happening and even whenever trades
1248s did come up and I was always mentioning
1249s like hey yeah I'm def like if y'all want
1252s to just use me as trade material go for
1254s it because you know I'm fine with the
1256s change that team was kind of in a ah no
1258s we're we're we're fine we're
1260s happy got to stay and uh yeah
1266s so actually there's a village here in
1268s this
1270s corner because of this Farm tile right
1272s here
1274s mhm yeah so the golden pixel is asking
1277s uh what's your favorite tribe qu quz
1282s Yeah you mentioned that you were quali
1285s main actually for a long time right mhm
1288s very much a qu Z man for a good time

1370s people are very hesitant of is they go
1373s no I these poly tars are cash only I
1376s cannot spend them as units I refuse
1381s unless the city's going to be sieged
1384s then then they go all right spend
1386s everything but everyone's very hesitant
1388s about actually using their
1396s resources next turn do I just pick up
1398s the
1400s farming I think we
1406s do so the main goal is for us to not
1409s lose this front cuz we're going to be
1411s getting the dragon egg

1429s roads well I can't benefit from roads at
1431s the exact
1435s moment I'm actually G to just keep that

1588s using their
1595s poar so we can go here and then we can
1597s change his Direction by

1639s the most part okay unless the game DRS

1689s village uh either here or
1692s here more than likely it's well we know
1696s it's not here because of this tile here

1701s here because there's no other way they

1998s archers it's going to be expensive for
2000s them to uh fight back for
2003s that again this this has been a uh
2006s ongoing debate on the stream that
2008s archers are just no good this is the
2010s power of archers we've got very small
2011s waterways right here
2014s mhm sure I don't have vision of these
2016s tiles but yeah they are awesome you
2018s showed it you know many times uh on your
2022s streams that uh when you like were kind
2026s of lagging behind your uh your opponent
2028s and then you made a uh some comebacks
2031s with with the archers
2039s this Archer is very much exposed this
2041s Warrior can hit it if he gets climbing
2059s but oo moving out with the dragon egg
2078s sorry I wasn't paying attention uh just
2080s answering the questions how they how did
2082s they match to uh managed to un Siege
2087s managed to un Siege uh they did exactly
2089s what I mentioned they spent 10 stars to
2090s get two Scouts to order to un Siege

2185s space to upgrade your units so pass the

2193s well we're essentially put just applying
2195s a lot of pressure to our opponent
2197s forcing him
2199s to um focus a lot more on this land
2201s because don't get me wrong they can
2203s absolutely answer this they have the
2206s economy so they can un Siege this they
2208s can't do anything about this city down
2210s here um especially since they already
2213s spent all their
2214s monuments if they didn't they could un
2216s Siege with a dragon egg

2229s swing I was hoping that this Archer
2231s wouldn't die but apparently oh it's fine

2236s him the Archer accomplished its job I
2239s was I mean it was technically was a bad
2241s trade but we're everything we're doing
2243s with that is trying to prevent them from
2245s keeping this city mhm

2258s bridge o here's an interesting idea even
2262s though the city it's level two only 150
2266s points so it still needs three
2268s four nine
2271s Pops I can't get nine pops well I can
2275s get nine by one okay so I could get a
2278s dragon egg here m not in one turn it
2281s would take two
2284s turns but I can hurt their technology
2287s and their economy by doing an eternal
2292s Siege

2299s play us as a note usually the best
2303s answer is just Siege just Siege just

2312s Warrior uh that's going to be the better
2314s play in like nine times out of 10 m um
2319s but right now I'm trying to prevent my
2322s opponent from getting any texts like
2323s Knights and knights are expensive so

2382s think about that so he was actually
2384s asking when is when is it going to be
2386s released but um what's what's your
2390s opinion on on the M Creator um are we
2394s talking about the fan-made one that you
2395s know technically not supposed to be used
2396s or the fact that we're apparently about
2398s to get one CU I haven't heard any news
2400s about that I would love one okay don't
2403s get me wrong I would love one but I
2404s actually got an interesting idea on that
2408s I mean this one's actually a hot take a
2409s lot of people may hate it some people
2411s may go oh oh wow they've got a
2413s uh that that was spash damage there
2419s okay but
2422s um if we're very insistent on
2428s trying to have Fair Maps but also the
2431s dev really
2432s wants um more random Maps because that
2436s the argument can really go either way
2438s about which way's going to be
2442s better
2444s um
2446s but there could be some form either a
2450s we're now in the age of AI there's also
2453s the idea that we could be oh man
2459s H um make an algorithm so in AI is
2463s making the
2464s maps
2468s or uh and allow like players to kind of
2471s vote like yeah this is a good map this
2473s is a bad
2474s MAP and eventually have a mapmaking
2477s algorithm that the the community can
2480s agree like yes this is the proper way
2481s map should be made so you mean like uh
2486s give uh AI some tips and then it kind of
2490s figures out what's the
2492s best uh best way of uh generating the
2495s maps oh yeah okay yeah I like that all
2501s right so our opponent's now going with
2502s riters which is the correct answer to
2504s archers so we already knew we weren't
2507s going to be able to stick with
2510s uh archers forever
2538s do I continue to Siege this
2541s one yeah we got to continue to sieg it
2544s how many stars does bring
2546s them so they do have a do they not have
2550s a workshop oh they don't have a workshop
2551s so it's only three stars a

2747s on the on the bomber I don't think this
2749s this was the right play oh no definitely
2754s not well I mean a lot of the current
2757s understanding from the general like more
2758s casual Community is whoever rushes The
2760s bombers first wins
2763s mhm which it's because of how much
2766s pressure that they can apply but just
2769s with this I've got two units on the
2770s water and unless they can kill uh both
2773s of them completely which they might be
2775s able to they got another Scout or
2777s something here then they
2780s can but I can just keep throwing two
2782s units on the water turn
2790s plus the moment this turns into an elder
2792s dragon that going to help a lot
2803s yep I think we pick up strategy next

2811s stop those Riders mhm
2818s the other option is invest a lot to get
2820s Smithy but I think Defenders are
2837s better move you right over to here we're

3812s in the South the position for for a
3814s bomber was was much much better right
3817s because you only have access from one
3819s city yeah they had a bomber right here
3823s yeah so this this uh this would have
3827s been you know kind of secure and uh
3830s really hard for you to to break

3836s see at this point when they're getting
3837s onto the water I've got multiple in and
3840s this is a
3842s necessary
3845s Scout mostly to see what I'm doing so

3860s so explorers can be very nice notice
3863s they have vision of the entire map the
3865s downside is they've only got 20 Stars

3877s I was even though my cities are a little

3886s workshops so it's really understanding
3889s when to explore is the important part
3891s but I ain't going to lie I think that
3893s those explorers were kind of all
3895s necessary this one was necessary just so
3897s that way they can secure the lighthouse

3902s with not exploring
3905s there especially if I I would also
3908s really consider you don't have to
3910s explore if you know you're about to go
3912s scouts because Scouts have that extra
3914s Vision yes it does mean that you're not
3916s getting that Vision as soon as

3920s um but you're able to improve your
3922s economy
3924s and if he had maybe plus one more star
3926s per turn he could
3928s have potentially done a little bit more
3931s it's it's I'm not saying that they made
3933s the wrong choice I actually think that
3934s the choices they made were I I don't see
3937s anything blatantly wrong in all this I
3939s think it was just I applied too much
3941s pressure with these archers and the
3942s constant siing
3947s in at this point these archers just
3950s claimed the lake is
3952s mine yeah very cheap way too
3956s to claim this
3962s lake so the last part of this battle
3964s really comes down to can they defend and
3967s push back and attack this city because
3969s they need to secure this Lake and
3973s threaten this city more than I am
3976s applying pressure on this city is their
3979s main
3980s goal unfortunately with all these poar
3982s on how they're set up and then
3984s eventually the Riders
3986s uh if my opponent had decided to swap
3989s over to archery instead
3992s and slowly push forward with archers
3995s they may have stood a better
3998s chance because Riders they're don't get
4001s me wrong Riders are great Riders are
4003s pretty much the meta unit for a reason
4006s is their extreme Mobility but the
4008s downside about using a Spam of riders is
4012s well they take the damage and then they
4013s have to go back and heal archers unless
4015s they're another ranged
4018s unit they they don't take damage meaning
4021s they don't have to pause to heal they're
4023s just slow and weak but they can pick
4025s things off so yep
4030s just while my opponent's spending a lot
4032s of resources on a really expensive Navy
4035s I've got cheap archers that have uh
4039s really cheap
4041s weapons at the really though I I really
4045s don't see much
4047s I think with the resources that they had
4050s they just made a lot of the right calls
4051s the only thing I could consider is maybe
4053s they should have gone for a couple of
4055s different Tech picks such as you know
4056s again
4057s archery uh or farming to finish
4060s improving their economy
4063s but so what about the the bomber play
4066s was it was it right a right call or I
4069s think putting the bomber
4072s here was probably the best uh was still
4074s the right play a safer tile would have
4077s been this one back

4084s getting rid of these archers and the
4086s issue is Scouts don't trade well with
4088s archers bombers don't trade well with

5221s it'd be great to rush for Dragons It's
5225s doesn't make a lot of sense to actually
5226s get dragons super early and then

5243s opponents thanks to being able to summon

6434s on so at this moment they're definitely
6437s starting to be able to see that their
6439s water potential is really rough by turn
6445s 10 yeah no water access actually yeah
6448s again there's just there's no water
6449s access so they're doing the right thing
6450s and trying to defend all this up but
6453s they need to expand their
6456s borders get this city walled up to make
6458s it harder for me to Siege maybe just by
6461s time
6462s but uh they need to get on the water so
6465s the city here needs their borders
6469s expanded um unfortunately there's no
6471s quick and easy way to do that okay maybe
6474s the capital
6475s next no I'm I'm looking at this this is
6478s just this is one of the toughest Maps
6480s I've seen in a
6485s while I think they probably did the
6487s right thing though is train catapults
6489s what they needed to do is get these
6490s catapults moved to a better position to
6492s just defend this permanently and then
6496s spin the resources they needed to get
6498s onto the
6499s water mm so this also comes back down to
6503s what I'm talking about when it comes to
6504s unfair Maps like even though I will
6507s always argue that now there's pretty
6509s much always going to be a
6511s way in this in this matchup with how
6514s everything's going Kiku is not going to
6516s win the land battle yeah even by going
6518s Defenders all they're doing is buying
6520s time which fortunately in my case the
6522s moment that that cloak appeared buying
6524s time is not what you want to be doing at
6526s all you got to be aggressive uh and
6530s unfortunately since I killed all their
6531s Riders they no longer have the unit
6532s that's needed in order to deal with
6534s these
6534s cloes so I'm not going to lie we just
6539s say that that uh Riders were uh the the
6543s right um Choice instead of like getting
6547s the their own archers for yep no they
6550s they definitely went with the right
6551s choice with uh Riders it's just the
6554s unfortunate bit of okay I'm actually
6557s really curious how the heck did they
6559s get this giant over here yeah because
6564s like their City leveled up
6566s once and then they disconnected
6578s reconnected I just I'm really curious

7058s on that turn or the previous turn no I

7062s this no I did on the previous turn so we
7064s were actually about to start getting
7065s plus one two and then this one I would
7069s have trained one here three and then
7071s this one I would train one here four

7074s so we're about to get a free five stars
7075s per turn and then this city which I can
7078s pull the sanctuary on yeah it's a pretty
7081s big Snowball Effect game that's
7084s typically ayon Mir matches is who
7085s snowballs faster but one last thing

7092s water what I was planning on

7097s is we'll turn off shared
7099s fog on my next turn since it was going
7102s to just cost 10 I was going to pick up
7104s Mining and then build a mine here which
7107s then allows us to get an explore however
7110s the closest fog tile is this one so it
7111s go one two three either like to here or
7115s to here get the lighthouse and then the
7117s next one is going to be within four
7119s tiles all the way over here so one two
7122s three four because we have climbing
7124s which would then
7126s expose all of these so in the best case
7130s 1 2 3 4 5 6 Seven 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 so
7137s if I was insanely lucky which I don't
7139s think it would have happened we could
7140s have found this Lighthouse as well yeah
7142s with a single Explorer there but that
7144s would have been the
7146s goal um was there anything our opponent
7149s could have done
7151s differently so if we did I I did not
7155s have organization neither did my
7157s opponent so there's no way for us to
7158s tell how much farming potential is on

7163s um but yeah but they had they had no
7166s poar in the in the front so nope they

7172s if they defend we just reege and it's a
7174s guaranteed
7175s Siege uh and we already had our
7177s Sanctuary set up so yeah they
7180s didn't it was just for them it was a
7182s rough game they I I would actually argue
7185s they rushed writers a little too soon
7188s again we were talking abouton having a
7190s weak early game economy of they really
7192s really strong turns one through three
7194s for the extra strength and added
7196s potential with their
7197s poar uh but then four through 10 they're
7200s generally weaker but it's because of
7203s their economy once their sanctuaries are
7205s set up then they're possibly stronger um
7209s but instead of going with sanctuaries or
7211s leveling up these cities with forestry
7213s which in this case I think the forestry
7216s play would have been better uh with
7219s building Lumber Huts just for a safer
7221s economy

7226s there's they they sacrificed all that
7228s for two
7231s Riders they could have had plus six or
7235s plus eight Stars per turn even in this
7236s stage on a much safer
7238s scale so even though you want to rush
7242s out Riders I would say they rushed it a
7244s little too

7578s so they got a big Nerf with the uh uh oh

7582s this may have been misplay okay I I no
7586s regrets all right there there is this
7589s mountain so you're kind of protected yep
7593s yeah looks like they spawned all the way
7594s here in the East so you really need be
7596s around and now that we know there in the
7598s East there's a good chance this lake is
7600s really important now
7602s so we're going to be making an attempt
7604s to get on the water somewhat soon the

10414s but the main thing was is you prevented
10416s your opponent from Gaining that and

10420s advantage and all this is just honestly
10422s good Naval battles from our opponent

10462s goal while he maintains proper Naval

10467s capture this city but to prevent me from

10472s position because he can see I'm getting
10473s this one so these two cities should be
10476s pumping out units just to fight over
10478s here while these three cities are trying
10481s to get units onto the
10483s water in the meantime try to find a

10498s going to take three hits in order to
10500s kill off one of these
10502s demons it's really needed to have been a

10523s instead so I think that's the pivotal
