I'm talking when it was first introduced and it was heavy 24/7. Currently there is rolling fog and it can get quite heavy, but the rolling fog doesn't really add anything. With the old fog, due to the average engagement distance it actually allowed you to adjust your loadout for this fog effect and changed up the playstyle heavily.

Specifically, the crossbow was an extremely deadly weapon for the first time in the games lifecycle. I remember being able to wipe entire squads with the crossbow when they were only about 15m away because they had no idea where I was as I snuck up to them. Hearing gunfire relatively close and using the fog to close the distance without them knowing. The VSS also became a very good weapon (it's pretty decent now but it was insanely good with fog).

I miss it because it allowed you to switch up your entire playstyle. With the rolling fog, it's just completely RNG as to when it rolls in and not something you can rely on for strats. Sometimes it will roll in when you need to cross in the open, sometimes it will be heavy when there are 50 players alive and you never get to engage with fog active. Some cases it's literally come and gone within a single engagement time with an enemy. Since it's heavy for such a short time, it makes no sense to base your entire loadout around a 5 minute window in a 40 minute match and it doesn't actually add anything to the gameplay.

I think the main issue with the old fog came from just how often it was in rotation. Instead of being a somewhat rare thing that would change up that match, often times you would get it 3+ times in a row. I feel if it was a rare occasion like once every 15 matches or so, it would actually add something to the gameplay and make those matches very memorable. I don't think it would work on competitive particularly well but for casual it would be nice for it to be experimented with again.

Agreed, I enjoy the dynamic fog but there should be a chance for a full fog match.

Unfortunately I think this will be an unpopular opinion as the droves of try hards will come forth to bitch about RNG in a competitive game.

It amazes me how many times I see people complain about the red zone. Mind boggling.

There will be people who enjoy something and those who don't. There so many ways to play and enjoy the game and that means that there are that many player types who prefer specific experience. No matter what setting, map, item, mechanic you mention, there will be people who like it and those who dislike it for their own personal reasons.

I am happy that we have the dynamic weather and that we can still get some foggy time on occasion. It's a good middleground imo. I can totally understand why this was changed from having full matches with 1 weather type.

I like the fog. Makes the need for butt clenching just a little higher and contributes to higher excitement when things go your way!
