The good old og Vikendi.

I remember the good old days of dropping Mount Kreznic, then popping down to Podvosto, Villa, Goroka or Coal Mine, on foot. Always an adventure. Always some action in one or all of these directions.

5 hot drops within walking distance of one another.

I remember the Goroka hot drops, the rooftop plays, running over the frozen lake in circle endings down south. What a great city.

I remember the Movatra drops with parallel lines of buildings. Fights over there were fun.

I rememeber the Abbey-Towar-Castle triangle drops and fights from one place to another.

I rememeber Volnova and the big church, surrounded by rooftops and awesome vertical gameplay on a small enough scale so it doesn't feel like a camp fest (ripton).

I remember the Podvosto drops, the bridge over the frozen river, the main street crossings to the church.

I remember Dobro Mesto and the main building fights, the north castle fights. Truly a dobro (good) mesto (place).

I remember Peshkova fights, all the wooden fences flying around from gunfire and grenades.

I remember the Zabava-Port-Coal mine triangle drops and fights there. The compounds west of Coal mine.

Pilnec-Winery drops. The pushes from one place to the other. Going up to Abbey afterwards.

Cement factory fights, the uniqueness of that place and area was awesome! The hills and mountain around, sweet sniper fights.

The og Dinopark with the big T-Rex. Running around the rollercoaster.

And when I think of the current Vikendi, all the memories I have are:

I died in city 1 of the 4-5 copy pasted ones I guess.

I died here in this and that spot to a cheat scope through a smoke.

I remember being annoyed in various places due to long blizzard zones, due to thermal scopes, due to self AEDs.

All drops have lost meaning. Cities feel packed, boring, generic, nameless.

Terrain is flat open in many parts of the map. Devs acknowledged the openness of it and said that their vision for gameplay is to have players use more smokes than on other maps. That they won't modify terrain any further to compensate.

Couple of months pass and the thermal scope comes out. Completely negating all smokes.

I don't know what it is that the Asian players hated about Vikendi that it required complete overhaul into what it is today - but I hope they are enjoying the crap out of it now because if they aren't, what are we doing here.

Anyways, these are just one man's memories and opinions.

Rest in peace, old Vikendi.
