s | actually didn't even show there we're |
s | gonna shows an extended look some stuff |
s | we're showing in the booth and for |
s | everyone at home we're actually gonna |
s | show some stuff that you know we're |
s | gonna have hands on at the booth so if |
s | you're here please come by but yeah well |
s | show some pretty cool stuff and then |
s | also to those sorry I've got to read |
s | this off my phone my note cards so uh to |
s | those watching online be sure to send |
s | your questions in on Facebook so do that |
s | we're also gonna be we took some |
s | questions on Twitter the other day so if |
s | anyone's in any--in we'll try and get to |
s | those too but first let me bring out two |
s | pretty cool people first we've got the |
s | studio director at EADS software Tim |
s | Willits |
s | [Applause] |
s | I tried I tried my best and then of |
s | course we've got the game director at |
s | Avalanche Studios on rage - we've got |
s | Magnus net verse Magnus I tried my best |
s | what's good what's good so I like the |
s | needs so okay say your name - and the up |
s | four okay so that is actually kind of |
s | hard to say for some reason a little bit |
s | of a soft approach there well let's go |
s | ahead and take a seat let's get this |
s | started |
s | so first off they all watch the Bethesda |
s | press conference it seems like people |
s | liked it we showed a lot of rage - you |
s | know we showed some trailers we showed a |
s | few things like that but we got to show |
s | about six seven minutes of gameplay how |
s | do you guys feel to actually see that |
s | out there in the wild I mean it's been |
s | it's been great we've worked on this |
s | game for a long time you know to us it's |
s | very near and dear so to come here to |
s | show the game have you all played you |
s | know hear your feedback it's it's really |
s | been great for me oh yeah it's super fun |
s | to see all the reactions like this every |
s | time when you are allowed to talk about |
s | the game first time and see people play |
s | it then just how they smile when they |
s | play the game that's super excited and |
s | get me super stoked to make even better |
s | games so it's like awesome and again |
s | stop by the booth get some hands-on with |
s | the game you can experience this for |
s | yourself or we're really excited about |
s | it so I guess everyone's been kind of |
s | wondering this and I think it's come up |
s | in just about every interview I've heard |
s | you guys do but you know it's software |
s | Avalanche Studios how does this |
s | collaboration work so so you take two |
s | studios that love each other and you put |
s | them in the desert alone and then magic |
s | comes out the it you know it's been you |
s | know real honor for me personally and |
s | folks I did software to collaborate with |
s | Avalanche Studios and because it really |
s | is you know we've invited them for years |
s | and to work and a true open world game |
s | and bring our idea of combat to that |
s | world it's been really thrilling for me |
s | interesting so you you magnet sorry yeah |
s | hey they're like the same as we said |
s | previously we have lanch we have always |
s | admired aid software guys they invented |
s | the first-person shooter |
s | I have been a fan the whole like since |
s | your early games and it's like when the |
s | opportunity came around it was like |
s | super good and we just melded together |
s | in the like the way what we want to do |
s | this game from day one it's awesome it's |
s | a true love story so you kind of just |
s | mentioned this but you know Tim you've |
s | been at it for 20-something years |
s | Magnus you've been an avalanche since |
s | the very beginning like almost 15 years |
s | yeah yeah so can you what makes an it |
s | game an it game and what makes an |
s | avalanche game an avalanche game what is |
s | that what's that secret sauce you don't |
s | for us you know an eID game is immersion |
s | intensity all those keywords but you |
s | know it's all about the moment-to-moment |
s | combat holding those heavy over-the-top |
s | powerful weapons situational based |
s | weapons you know movement in our games |
s | has always been very important you know |
s | we make really fast games and it's that |
s | kind of in-your-face action is you know |
s | what it's offered does really well |
s | Magnus |
s | well avalanche is doing one thing and |
s | that's open-world games that's what we |
s | do that's what we love to do we have |
s | done it from day one and everybody |
s | working at our studios that's what they |
s | want to do they love to make them to |
s | learn to play them so yes the open-world |
s | nice if be in a game world that this |
s | vast and super big and you can just look |
s | around and you see a bunch of different |
s | interesting locations and so on I'm free |
s | to select wherever I want to go and you |
s | just go there because I see it and when |
s | you come there you interact with it and |
s | it just reacts to your interaction so we |
s | also love like dynamic content provide |
s | tools for the player to just play with |
s | the game like we I'm always almost most |
s | impressed with our games is when I watch |
s | other people play the game and they do |
s | shit that I didn't think of as a game |
s | creator I will say I provided the two |
s | okay okay well I'm Swedish I'm sorry |
s | well they do things world as I haven't |
s | even thought about like so we have so |
s | many stories like where people just do |
s | things with our toys and we have a laugh |
s | at the office and like interaction with |
s | the world and open world masters well so |
s | it begs the question you know you guys |
s | are saying two very specific things to |
s | what y'all do but you know I think it is |
s | it's it seems really interesting how |
s | you're making this work together that |
s | that almost it's a seamless experience |
s | right I'm gonna talk about that yeah |
s | absolutely like as we said the love |
s | story between our studios like we have |
s | both the love for total just crazy |
s | action we so in both types of games we |
s | have that as a common thing in all our |
s | games previously and when we just saw |
s | the opportunity to merge those two is |
s | absolutely not to like even we talk |
s | about two different studios and two |
s | different principles of game making but |
s | it's not erased you just makes those two |
s | principles just meld together like this |
s | it's super fun when you see it like you |
s | go around in the open world you always |
s | in the mode of its style calm but within |
s | the openness of their flash games so |
s | that it's a total marriage that works |
s | out so good so it's it's less about |
s | those two different things and it's more |
s | about how they've totally wouldn't blend |
s | it together |
s | yeah so in enrage one you know due to |
s | some of the the way our technology |
s | worked at the time there really was this |
s | distinct difference you know you drive |
s | around you jump out you go in there's a |
s | level load and you're okay now I'm |
s | inside doing inside I mean any rage one |
s | fans in the audience yes awesome the so |
s | so what's so amazing about you know |
s | working with the Avalanche apex tech is |
s | that there is there's none of that |
s | separation there is none of that level |
s | load like in rage we built these really |
s | cool sky boxes that look cool in rage |
s | too |
s | if you see something cool you just go |
s | there and it's it's so amazing to really |
s | be seamless and and cannot stress that |
s | enough yeah okay well uh so we've kind |
s | of talked about this at a high level I |
s | think we should probably show some video |
s | of the game maybe unless you guys don't |
s | want us do you want to see some of the |
s | game stuff or some of that then but |
s | definitely come by the booth this is |
s | actually a video we're showing to |
s | everyone specifically what we're showing |
s | at the booth you're gonna get hands-on |
s | with just the combat for now we're kind |
s | of uh we're gonna show you some of the |
s | open-world stuff later so we want to |
s | give everyone a taste of what that full |
s | experience is gonna be like and so yeah |
s | let's go ahead and if we can roll the |
s | video for Rage to |
s | rage two fuses together an unprecedented |
s | partnership in gaming |
s | it's an eID software best-in-class |
s | first-person shooter meets Avalanche |
s | Studios mastery of open-world insanity |
s | especially impressive this incredible |
s | combination of action and scale plays as |
s | a smooth and seamless load screen free |
s | experience it all takes place 30 years |
s | after the events of rage with a world |
s | changing apocalypse and war firmly in |
s | the rear view events have given way to a |
s | massive open world dripping with insane |
s | awesomeness everywhere you turn from |
s | jungles to deserts to wetlands to all |
s | sorts of diverse and inspiring biomes |
s | your character hails from Vineland a |
s | secluded Enclave that you're forced to |
s | abandon after it's attacked by the newly |
s | resurgent authority led by the |
s | physically and socially repellant |
s | general cross we start in the secreto |
s | wetlands where you've been sent to find |
s | dr. kvasir fans of the original may |
s | remember him as your helpful ally in |
s | true in style your character comes |
s | equipped with a sizable arsenal of |
s | enviable weapons today we'll show you |
s | your assault rifle |
s | Shunta and rocket launcher you also have |
s | some grenades and making its triumphant |
s | return a fan favorites the wing stick |
s | which has some new tricks in the game |
s | that will show offering you in a bit |
s | let's chat up dr. kvasir shall we equal |
s | 15 it was never deployed and remains in |
s | orbit around the earth |
s | I simply need you to travel to the Eden |
s | Space Center and call it down from orbit |
s | I'm going right now vehicles were a big |
s | part of range and to makes sure to |
s | double down on its transfer there's a |
s | mind-blowing assortment of charged up |
s | chopped up and jacked up machinery to |
s | drive in and contend |
s | you've got whiplash inducing racers that |
s | will leave your opponent's spitting dust |
s | formidable roaming enemies on wheels for |
s | every faction and as if that wasn't |
s | enough there's also the threat of |
s | massive convoys and they're insanely |
s | huge convoy leaders fortunately your |
s | vehicle comes equipped with rights let's |
s | show these hooligans who's boss |
s | the goon squad is just one of several |
s | factions you'll encounter in rage - each |
s | has different settlements combat styles |
s | and sweet rides oK we've arrived at the |
s | even spaceport which naturally is |
s | overrun with goon squad you're gonna |
s | need your full arsenal to deal with |
s | these thugs see these guys here we're |
s | gonna school them and slam slam works |
s | based on height so the higher up I am |
s | the more powerful the slam |
s | as you kill opponents you get overrun |
s | causing your overdrive meter to go up |
s | when the meter is full you can unleash |
s | over which makes everything more |
s | powerful and also restores your help |
s | you'll get more overdrive points by |
s | maintaining a high killer looks like |
s | that guy with the Rockets up there is |
s | causing some trouble fortunately you've |
s | upgraded your wings sure you didn't |
s | forget about your wing step an upgraded |
s | wing stick and target and kill enemies |
s | even around corners now let's get inside |
s | where dr. crosshair has convinced Eden's |
s | AI that I'm the president of the United |
s | States |
s | no longer present threat has been |
s | identified mr. president made it to the |
s | control room now let's bring down that |
s | EcoPOD |
s | typical sequence approved elevators |
s | still running so far so good |
s | looks like the authorities back for more |
s | we'll have to cut them down to size |
s | it's a mutant crusher no facelock like |
s | these throughout the world of rage to |
s | some small some big |
s | thanks for joining us for this quick and |
s | dirty look at the world of Rage 2 as you |
s | can see this game is busting at the |
s | seams with weapons vehicles and terrain |
s | [Applause] |
s | [Music] |
s | awesome what'd you guys think this week |
s | so I realized we're running pretty short |
s | on time but I want to make sure we get |
s | to some community questions and things |
s | like that but I but there was a little |
s | hot in that video mm-hmm which is why we |
s | had to narrate it but uh yeah a lot to |
s | go through I think I think it all kind |
s | of starts with we just saw a vasya in |
s | that a returning character from rage 1 |
s | and we haven't really talked a whole lot |
s | about that but can you talk a little |
s | about the characters in this game are |
s | there some from rage 1 coming over to |
s | rage - well last mentioned in the video |
s | like this this game takes place roughly |
s | 30 years of the after the first one but |
s | we do have a lot of like characters like |
s | you saw the main enemies still Authority |
s | they are back you need to defeat them |
s | might recognize a few characters from |
s | that as well so yes we will be people |
s | that you will recognize what about |
s | locations any rage 1 locations returning |
s | well we have a few things that that |
s | didn't play rh1 are they gonna need to |
s | have played that before we jump into |
s | rage 2 so so if you haven't played rage |
s | 1 it's ok I forgive you but I mean get |
s | millions of people who played rage but |
s | we wanted to set this game apart so I |
s | know we have a big - at the end of this |
s | but you did not need to have played rage |
s | we we set the story up in such a way |
s | that we feed you the information that |
s | you need one of the things we did in |
s | rates 2 is our main character his name |
s | is Walker he's got a voice yes he |
s | actually talks and the great thing about |
s | Walker is he'll actually fill in a lot |
s | of information that that you'll need to |
s | place so if you haven't played rage 1 |
s | you can still play it but jump in a rage |
s | 2 you'll be totally fine ok well you |
s | know let's talk a little bit more about |
s | story because it seems like you know |
s | rage was a fairly linear experience but |
s | but clearly avalanche makes these big |
s | open worlds I'm |
s | was there you know it is there a main |
s | story or there are there side quests |
s | things like that well we have a main |
s | story to speak but we don't tell it in a |
s | linear path any longer like we do |
s | open-world games and we want the player |
s | to explore the world and find bits and |
s | pieces of the main story as they go so |
s | when we release you out in the open |
s | world you will have several threads to |
s | work and also on a side quest I don't |
s | really like to call them that because it |
s | kind of makes them small and diminish |
s | them a little bit but we have activities |
s | all over the open world of different |
s | kinds just from missions that you can |
s | just take on on their own that tells |
s | small it in individual stories about |
s | people that you meet out in the |
s | wasteland a small activity says in what |
s | just finding things that interesting |
s | that tells you about the world so the |
s | world itself will tell a lot of stories |
s | just by we take some time in a location |
s | it like just observe and you will |
s | understand what has been going on there |
s | the first like in the world since the |
s | first game so okay so you we keep saying |
s | world we keep saying an open world wide |
s | open world how big how big is this world |
s | well it's big enough figured out yeah |
s | now we like we don't bang this big well |
s | we don't like to measure our worlds in |
s | in metrics it's like that doesn't it |
s | this is not important to us we can make |
s | world more or less how big we want it or |
s | need it the most important thing is |
s | actually to have the right frequency of |
s | gameplay at the speed that you travel to |
s | the game so depending how you move |
s | through the game world that's what sets |
s | how often do you want to put something |
s | in there |
s | Ida near the player or far away from the |
s | player and that's what like just fill |
s | the world with good content but yes it's |
s | an avalanche game it is big okay |
s | that was vague yet specific at the same |
s | time okay so so clearly and we even |
s | address this in the video but clearly |
s | there's been an effort to make this much |
s | much more colorful this is this entire |
s | world and it seems like there's even |
s | what looks like diverse kind of biomes |
s | and things like that can you guys talk a |
s | little bit about that and then what |
s | brought you to that four rage - yeah yes |
s | so so for those of you that play rage |
s | one or Mad Max you know that it's |
s | software in avalanche used every single |
s | shade of brown and we mastered brown so |
s | when we set out to create the world of |
s | Rage - we knew we had to do something |
s | different you know it's a it's a it's |
s | not really a post-apocalyptic game it's |
s | a post post-apocalyptic game and we've |
s | with the technology we have been able to |
s | create these rich biomes with forests |
s | and grasslands and swamps and and really |
s | unique areas that that not only give you |
s | a sense of place but also give you a |
s | context of the action you know where |
s | you're going you know that the River |
s | hogs live over there and this faction |
s | lives over there and you know it really |
s | brings more color and diversity which we |
s | brought all the way into the campaign |
s | you know hence the the the crazy insane |
s | colors of Rage - yeah well like color |
s | colorfulness was from day one something |
s | we would wanted when we started to think |
s | about the post post-apocalyptic effort |
s | like that's it we were a lot of inspired |
s | by more colorful comics from the 80s and |
s | 90s one day like I don't know why post |
s | Apple just went into this Brown mess for |
s | a while |
s | it was fun absolutely we had a lot of |
s | fun with that but now we need to bring |
s | color back into those time type of games |
s | I think awesome so I'm gonna kind of |
s | jump around topics a little bit we we |
s | saw or we saw a lot of vehicles in there |
s | just really briefly can you guys talk |
s | about this I mean I mean avalanches is |
s | also known for vehicles can you talk |
s | about what we're gonna see in rage - |
s | well you saw a few of them they're like |
s | wreaths raging from smaller like |
s | vehicles running around on the wasteland |
s | as you normally see - the huge convoy |
s | leaders that you will need to take down |
s | some flying vehicles so we have all the |
s | different kinds and we love vehicle |
s | combat combat we love explosions we |
s | blow up every time so that's he did it |
s | yeah so that's what we do like bigger |
s | explosions more guns and you can equip a |
s | lot of different weapons on your Rico's |
s | to destroy and wreak havoc around the |
s | world good segue weapons let's talk |
s | about we showed uh we've showed an |
s | assault rifle we showed a pistol a |
s | little bit can you talk some something |
s | about the weapons maybe are there |
s | upgrades on them or they're customizable |
s | yes so of course weapons are very |
s | important to you know to every reaction |
s | game and I can tell you all that we have |
s | a great amount of weapons the weapons |
s | are upgradable you can even kind of |
s | customize them a little bit just a |
s | little hint up that but but all the |
s | action that you would expect in our |
s | weapons we have enraged you okay and I |
s | think I think maybe the last one I have |
s | these very led questions sorry well go |
s | to community stuff here in a second but |
s | uh we've showed a lot of powers and it |
s | seems like a very different departure |
s | from rage one specifically can you talk |
s | a little bit about these powers and how |
s | they work well we enrich one you had the |
s | word that I can't pronounce |
s | de feebly rate or something again I'm |
s | sweet but that's that's a power that you |
s | had that brought you back to life when |
s | you were almost dying we wanted to |
s | expand on that we added a bunch of new |
s | powers who call them an annex right |
s | abilities you saw if you have them again |
s | in the video like the shatter and this |
s | ground slam and so on it's just |
s | something to make the combat unique and |
s | like as team talked about earlier the |
s | each style like you have to move around |
s | you have to use your powers we want to |
s | force the player into the action rather |
s | than sneaking around the corners and |
s | just wait for meeeeee so blend the |
s | knocks right abilities together with the |
s | weapons and you will become an awesome |
s | fighting machine yes no no sneaking no |
s | sneaking go hand and go in yeah yes yes |
s | heard of here first |
s | no sneaking it was sneaky okay so I |
s | think we're at a good spot where we can |
s | switch to community questions and this |
s | is kind of the coolest thing ever is we |
s | actually the first one that came in from |
s | Facebook is uh and this actually we we |
s | might take a little bit of a break here |
s | but the first question is so well Andrew |
s | W K make a cameo |
s | in game and before you answer let's go |
s | ahead and roll the video of something we |
s | didn't get to show the full thing at the |
s | Bethesda press conference so if you |
s | could roll the video it talks why the |
s | party with Rutgers does anyone recognize |
s | that mounts on the wall its motion |
s | sensor activated is the ruckus the |
s | crusher talking head and it can be yours |
s | if you ordered to rage two collector's |
s | edition now but that's not all you can |
s | also get the Rage 2 collector's edition |
s | game SiC poster and it all comes in a |
s | one-of-a-kind steelbook it's the |
s | insanely cool rh2 collector's edition |
s | act now in this limited time offer and |
s | it can be yours while they last |
s | rage - collector's edition no simplify |
s | it simply dad's awesome so I don't think |
s | we've I don't know if we've called this |
s | out so that actually that actually is |
s | Andrew wks voice as the Ezra kits the |
s | crushin rushes - yes yes and ruckus the |
s | crusher is aired during this game so yes |
s | confirmed yes that is yes ok it is |
s | Andrew it is ruckus and that's an |
s | awesome rush tradition which I actually |
s | did not when they win win it was pitched |
s | I was like oh boy but you know now that |
s | I saw it and people loved it it's it's |
s | definitely the most ridiculous |
s | it's the yes so we got two and a half |
s | minutes left sorry |
s | we'll do some rapid fire community |
s | questions I'll see if I can get through |
s | so okay |
s | from JL six one nine is the game going |
s | to run at 60 frames yes on the newest |
s | consoles 60 and of course our PC players |
s | you are all golden so it'll run really |
s | really fast and look amazing awesome |
s | from Simon wit 7 the story's not gonna |
s | I'm sorry I apologize for this one it |
s | the story's not just gonna stop abruptly |
s | this time will it |
s | yes rage 2 is called redemption yes yes |
s | we have a really awesome cool evening I |
s | promise ok ok so will we revisit any of |
s | the hope we answered that one already |
s | sorry Spartan from lune |
s | I am can I |
s | hope for over-the-top blood splatter |
s | well you know what I think we might have |
s | just let roll the video of course like |
s | it's part of each style combat is like |
s | and I think take a look at the video |
s | again and you will see it ok from the |
s | pumpkin beam the one thing I want to |
s | know most is do you acquire upgrades |
s | from quest still and is the different |
s | answer the defibrillator is still in |
s | here right yes it is so how do you |
s | acquire upgrades |
s | well again like you see so in the video |
s | the through one of the missions there |
s | you can get one of the powers but again |
s | it's an open world game so we don't |
s | tight everything in in missions and so |
s | on you just go up and explore the world |
s | and you find weapons and powers okay |
s | from Halleck will there be any |
s | deployable weapons like century BOTS |
s | from the first game yes okay we're just |
s | going through from jump for apples it's |
s | a good name will we be able to customize |
s | our weapons |
s | oh we answered that one already we're |
s | just we're so good alright from Samsa |
s | you know I can't say that one also will |
s | there be any connection between the two |
s | games other than the world since the |
s | plots are different well we haven't |
s | actually said the plots are different |
s | but that's go ahead sorry well again |
s | let's mentioned it's 30 years between |
s | the two games and Tim wasn't on it like |
s | it is you don't need to have played the |
s | first game it's a different plot with |
s | continues into the second game but yes |
s | with a different protagonist okay this |
s | looks like doom + Mad Max Plus Just |
s | Cause is that true I'd buy that |
s | ok office and last question we go back |
s | to Facebook what about a relief Diego |
s | Alejandra what about a release date oh |
s | yeah early next year glad but come to |
