I’ve heard lots of rumblings in the community about a recent build of the game before the December update having lots of cool mechanics and much better animations and AI. Not just that but apparently all these things were working perfectly fine yet were oddly left out of public early access build. Have the devs ever explained why all the stuff from their internal build that was apparently fully functional were cut out? Not asking out of malice, just genuinely curious.

Most of our animations are motion captured. Motion matching which is an animation system, not an animation method. We absolutely use motion capture for animations, and weve put a lot of hours into it. :)

As for OP, these things weren’t necessarily working perfectly, they might have been functional but with old code and old ideas — we overextended our feature set (back in what, 2018?) as new game developers and had to scale back our EA release goal if we ever wanted a shot at releasing something stable as a small team. Now that the game is out, we’ve been planning on re-creating a lot of content to fit our games design, not just cramming it in there because it sounds like it would work.

I’ll help you: we’re missing drones, ladders, vaulting, being able to select multiple different grenades on your kit, sniper support, entry selection. Some of these are planned to come back, some of these won’t come back. If they don’t fit the game then they won’t be included :)

Also ai were never better than they are now. They also never took cover like they do in our next update. We did have an early cover system but it was pretty hard to use: designers would have to place trigger systems and then link them to cover points. It took weeks for a single level to be set up. And that’s the thing: we are better developers now. It’s easier to start a an old, old feature from scratch than to try to fix it 9 times out of 10. Hopefully this provides some insight.
