42s um uh Jules SEO and ryro L CTO uh a
46s while ago and uh we uh yeah I'm you know
50s the game director as well so in charge
51s of the vision for the game and stuff
53s like that working very closely with the
54s other guys in this Channel and a lot of
56s other guys in the uh who aren't in this
58s Channel and um really it's all them it's
60s all the other guys who make this a lot
62s of the next you know make reading what
64s ready night is so uh I really just kind
66s of sit there and watch everyone do their
68s their jobs so

129s working and she says the war Fortress is

163s um it's really good to sort of like uh
164s have these kind of brainstorming
166s sessions and allows us to event a little
168s bit as well and you know have that kind
170s of relationship with you guys
171s um so yeah no like uh as as mentioned
174s I'm um my sort of day-to-day job is to
177s look after the environments not only
178s just leading the team
179s um but also one of the core content
181s creators from the environments
182s themselves I tend to
183s um you know take a level from block out
185s stage all the way to final whilst also
187s managing my team who are working on
189s other levels I also
191s um sort of managed the the going-ons
193s with um the Outsource when it comes to
196s asset creation
197s um for the levels specifically and yeah
199s overall just kind of making sure the
201s game looks as good as it can and
203s hopefully running smoothly as well

219s it's doing too much honor I know what's
220s going on everyone uh first of all I
222s gotta say thanks to everyone for
224s dropping in like this is this is crazy
225s seeing over 200 people in here right now
227s but uh yeah I'm sound leading composer
230s of the void and believe it or not
232s um this is actually my first major
234s project I did some small stuff before uh
236s mainly with with music so going on to
239s the sound side is was pretty scary but
242s again I work with probably the best team
246s in the world when it comes to just
247s collaboration and getting things done so
250s I can't be more thankful for that
253s um so day to day for me basically going
255s in getting assets
257s um getting the technical sound side done
260s um and just also making sure that the
262s music is implemented and and making sure
264s it's all flowing together level the
266s level and moment to moment and uh of
269s course it's also a learning process too
271s just making sure that I'm listening to
273s feedback and seeing okay so what do
275s players like what are they not like and
277s then from there just kind of
278s making sure the sound gets better and
280s better and better and and that's that's
282s pretty much it

293s uh Mr Ollie somebody who is uh very much
296s known to uh the NDA members as he likes
299s to pop in from from time to time and yet
302s again in another uh another avoids very
305s capable team uh program members

316s um do a lot of things from AI to
319s gameplay and um also networking
323s um so for Co-Op and stuff like that

336s sound team needs any help Ali is like he
338s jumps in suggestions yeah like he's he's
341s all over the map he's crazy so

401s so Let's uh let's get this show on the
404s road with uh starting from right from
407s the top of the questions Channel
409s um very very common question ever since
412s uh the first stages of the alpha and
415s since
416s honestly a lot of people's first touch
419s into Ready or Not what is the current
421s state of um the PVP being uh being
424s relaunched into the current version of
426s the game
428s no so we haven't really touched the PVP
432s too much we've played around with it
434s occasionally for some for fun
436s there's a few different modes
438s um that we've played with we actually we
441s have this mode that we've you know
443s casually some of the guys will jump in
444s it uh where it's just literally like a
446s 1v1 oh sorry it's like a free-for-all
449s kind of thing you just spawn in you just
450s shoot each other and that kind of gave
452s us the idea that it's very likely PVP
454s will be a lot of fun if we get it right
456s the biggest trick is make sure that it's
458s an interesting and kind of engaging game
460s mode something that you can play and not
463s feel like the old PVP we had kind of
464s felt like it had no purpose it was kind
467s of flat a bit and and it was probably
468s over designed as well and it didn't
471s really fit like a lot of the levels
472s didn't really fit the the top the style
475s of gameplay that our our game was going
477s for
479s um so going forwards I think with a PVP
481s I'm not we're not I'm not going to like
483s talk about what that could look like
484s just because it's quite
486s um
487s uh you know I'm not if I say one thing
489s it might end up being something entirely
490s different but I can say that we have a
492s few different ways that we're going to
493s implement PVP
495s um and one that will come to ready or
496s not
497s um at some point and I'm probably not
500s too far down the track would be
503s um yeah part of the new station that
505s we're working on so uh you know right
508s now we have players who are going in to
510s the kill house and they're running
513s around shooting at each other like just
514s kind of kill each other respawn run down
515s do it again do it again do it again
518s um with a new State uh with the new
519s station which actually I think that may
521s have just been a bit of information that
522s now I know about
523s um with the new the new Lobby level uh
525s there's going to be a larger kill house
528s area large killer Zone and there'll be a
530s dedicated area where you can actually
531s just you know decide to enter into PvP
533s with your friends and that'll be our
535s first like taste because that's
537s currently what we can do in Ready or Not
538s Like that's what we've tried and it's a
540s lot of fun it's really cool like having
541s a firefight with someone through a wall
543s you know
544s um and actually we haven't tried it I
547s think with like the new Ricochet or the
549s spawning stuff but um even before all
551s that it was really sweet having like a
553s big gun fight and you're like kind of
554s trying to guess what the other dude is
555s through the wall
556s um you can hear them walking and stuff
557s and you're trying to like Ping him
558s through that or like breaching a door
560s throwing Grenada and then just kind of
561s trying to find the enemy
563s um it felt really really cool so that'll
565s be our first foray into it um almost as
568s like a staged thing this time just like
569s kind of staging it out going well how do
571s people like just like a very basic PVP
573s where they can kind of play around
575s um in an environment and and whatnot
578s the station itself the actual the arena
580s area the the shoot house area
583s we'll have a bit more of a
585s um there'll be a bit more to it
587s but uh yeah so
591s so expect expect something I would say
594s definitely this year
596s and then as for a larger PVP larger
598s scale PVP which is probably what people
600s thinking of you know uh
602s um
603s we
605s we're just still kind of talking about
607s it thinking about it it's not really in
608s the Forefront of our minds honestly it's
610s mostly everything's serving Cooperative
612s in single player right now
614s um but it will get into that stage where
616s we're like well you know we could
617s probably start branching at it to a bit
618s of PVP because it is it could be a lot
620s of fun you know
621s um to kind of have something a bit more
623s CQB oriented unique
625s um as soon as we get it right you know
627s we want to get it right
629s and on that from a development point of
632s view we've been making improvements to
634s the builds and the likes um and one of
636s those improvements has been to um
638s generate dedicated Service as a proof of
641s concept so going back to grunters
644s timelines um that's something that we do
645s plan to do from a technical point of
647s view
648s yeah
649s I can actually Branch off into I guess
651s the voice chat part of this because I
653s know voice chat is obviously super
654s important in PvP and uh something that I
658s like I know that the sound team really
660s wants to explore is actually having the
662s voice processed by fmod instead of it
665s just being through Unreal Engine like
667s the default stuff so that means that all
669s the environmental effects that you hear
671s in the game that's going to be pushed
673s onto the voice so like your friend's
675s buying a wall it's going to sell muffled
676s or they're in like a Reverb tunnel and
678s it's going to be you know reverberating
680s through that tunnel so just
682s um kind of these hand in hand
683s improvements that'll help push the PVP
686s immersion along a little bit further

697s and then to the second most uh
700s ask question at least by some of the
702s people over here you know who the hell

705s um but when is the uh full HRT rework
709s coming
710s so we've done a fair bit of it we still
714s have to scan the pants and the shirt we
717s initially were we're working with a team
720s um I think there are some questions
722s asked us before the whole
724s um the war in Ukraine I think
727s but during that time we were already
728s working on a scan and then that team
730s that we were working with
731s um we actually have not been able to
733s communicate with them since so uh we
737s tried to but nothing's come through so
739s we've had to start that again
742s um about to start the close again but uh
744s Mary G Gerard uh has been working really
748s hard on he's been working on the a lot
749s of the hard service elements you know
751s we've got the gpn video teams
753s um already done which is going to be
755s really cool uh and a few other elements
757s as well
759s um some of the holsters and whatnot and
761s we've got a a really talented artist a
764s technical artist actually who has his
765s own scan studio so he's been going
767s through getting ready and scanning all
768s the gear
769s um and we've just been making sure that
771s it's kind of authentic it's a lot more
772s lined up
774s um with the you know what you'd actually
775s expect these guys to wear
777s uh and and that shouldn't be too far off
779s honestly that's our that's literally the
781s first thing we're doing we're getting
782s this out of the way now uh and it
784s actually branches out into a few other
785s things we're actually very lucky that
787s we're doing it now in this fashion
788s because there are a few other things
790s that we are
791s uh looking into and hopefully we're
794s going to be executing relatively soon
797s um which will make the HRT uniform a
800s little bit more I think exciting to
803s actually have access to you know being
805s able to pick say different gloves or
808s different
809s um or being able to mix and match some
810s of the clothing options
812s um things like that would be really cool
814s it's not going to be too excessive but
815s you know that that's something that we
817s would have if we did it previously it
818s would have probably been a massive
819s problem for us
820s but it's coming soon I know that
822s everyone's waiting very patiently for it
824s um at least I I think it sounds like
826s maybe not uh and that's fine too we've
828s been saying you guys look at that for a
830s long time
831s um and the current one isn't really up
833s to scratch so yeah
836s well
838s as there to uh they're too impatient
840s they just uh won't let anybody live any
843s any uh anything down so when you say
845s soon so you better mean soon
847s well so yeah soon in 20 years no I mean
851s like I get it it's it's like it's it'll
853s be the first character thing that comes
855s out that's not like you know I mean like
858s as far as police and playable characters
859s go it'd be the first thing that people
861s get access to we're not really gonna do
863s other things first that would be a
864s massive you know kick in the face I
866s think all right um and I guess a
868s tangential question that is related to
870s that is Will
872s um
873s will officer skins always be one and
876s done skins or will there ever be any
878s opportunity to modify you know where you
881s have your patches where you have your
884s um kit or hell even uh swappable patches
888s coming back or being a thing
890s yeah so I don't want to uh like Nikita
892s the tame in this sense no offense
895s offense of the king but uh I would say
898s that we have some plans for it which is
900s essentially like you know um patches
902s will
903s it's we're looking at patches coming
905s back as well as a few other things too
906s so
908s in our kind of exploration into this we
911s don't want to necessarily go down the
912s route of like crazy
914s unrealistic looking characters you know
917s nothing too crazy in that sense like
919s nothing too outlandish is probably the
922s right word for it but we want to look
923s into something where you can have that
926s personalization we can kind of give
928s players a little bit more incentive to
930s maybe get higher scores get better
932s scores or even perform certain tasks
935s um so patches will be an element to that
937s how they work we don't really know yet
939s we've talked about it a lot the way yeah
941s obviously the way it works is you talk
942s about it then you explore then you
945s execute and then you you know reevaluate
947s because sometimes you can't actually
948s achieve things or it's too expensive you
950s know all of a sudden you've cut down
951s your frame rate of [ __ ] though because
952s you've got to add another song yeah a
953s lot of iteration exactly it's a lot of
956s iteration that happens with everything
957s you know happens with AI for example
959s um so you know it's yeah pretty common
961s but one thing we're looking into now is
963s yeah being able to have different kinds
965s of patches
966s we may not see the kind of like internet
969s URL link patches just because of the
971s there's a lot of like concerns on our
973s end of that I'll be the disaster yeah it
976s could be it could be quite risky but um
978s we will probably be going along the
980s route of you know a lot of different
981s patches that players will have access to
983s based on what they've um performed in
985s the game you know like things that they
986s might be able to achieve
988s um and then show that off you know
989s they're really cool patches we don't
990s just want to like let's say us let's say
992s you get S rank on meth on like all of
995s every single meth level so you like kind
996s of aced it
998s um we would just give you a patch I said
999s method that would be lame but having
1001s like really well designed nice
1002s embroidered looking patches and then
1004s being able to have it players get access
1005s to that and then choose where on their
1008s unless shoulder right shoulder head you
1010s know like a helmet that could be really
1012s cool for us I think and really exciting
1013s if we were to go down that route
1015s um and there's a few other things as
1017s well in that regard
1018s um just tattoos and things like that
1020s other personalization options uh that
1023s we're looking into
1024s and ideally we get we're looking into
1027s getting that done relatively soon but uh
1030s it is more of an aesthetic thing but I
1031s think that's a good way of like we've
1033s talked about this a lot and a lot of
1034s people on the team you know they they
1035s feel and I know a lot of community
1037s approach feels the same way it's like
1038s you need that hook kind of like but like
1039s how do we keep how do you keep people
1041s like enjoying the game and engage in the
1043s game sometimes just finishing a mission
1044s nowadays isn't really enough sometimes
1046s it's good to have other things the idea
1048s to like have you know your guide showing
1050s off like maybe some specific gloves you
1052s have and tattoo you have like with these
1053s rolled sleeves and you have like some
1055s patches from some very specific tasks
1057s you perform could be really cool so
1059s that's what we're looking at that's our
1060s goal it's um so it's not necessarily
1064s something we're going like we need to
1065s just see how that feels first how it
1066s goes because it could be
1068s you know could be a lot so sort of like
1070s a a trophy system where if you achieve
1073s this feat you get you know a patch you
1075s get some gloves you get you know some
1078s something small but something enough to
1079s make you stand out to you know other
1081s players
1082s pretty much yeah look I mean our game is
1084s honestly mostly first I mean it is a
1086s first person game so having you know
1088s most of your screen covered with these
1089s custom things is cool the patches being
1091s the only thing that you won't see
1092s necessarily but yeah that would be one
1095s thing that we might be looking into
1097s um and just seeing how that feels
1098s alrighty
1100s yeah lots of Juicy information for that
1103s one question uh some people be quite
1105s happy
1106s um
1108s all right scrolling down our uh
1111s what's going on a question chat uh
1114s there's another question coming from uh
1117s one of our uh one one of our map modders
1120s who's frankly
1122s doing badass work

1125s is there a uh rough ETA on a full good
1129s and proper NBA sorry wow NBA SDK
1133s that's the word that's the letter
1134s combination I'm looking for luckily no
1137s more no more NDA luckily yeah
1139s I I can answer that one um so we've been
1142s making a lot of improvements to the game
1144s itself around uh modding support
1146s internally
1147s um so one thing that we'll be shipping
1149s early this year is the safe mode
1151s um and loading just really or not picks
1153s to get around some of the loading issues
1155s and help help people with it and then
1157s after that we'll be looking at building
1160s um the SDK with help from the community
1162s on on methods and and functional
1165s functionality that I'd like to see uh in
1168s this SDK because one of the challenges
1170s we ran into is uh unreal pack support
1173s doesn't allow you to load
1175s overwrite content at runtime so we
1178s really need to extend our our mod
1181s loading to do it at runtime so you know
1183s find all maps and in the back file find
1186s all weapons and the pec file and extend
1188s our internal data tables
1190s so hopefully I'll be taking on that um
1193s this you know quarter I guess so um I'll
1197s be looking for some support from the
1198s community there
1200s but as with a date when we'll have a
1203s fully fledged SDK uh soon I guess can't
1206s say win just but I will be working on it
1209s but for us it's something that we oh
1211s guys you go ahead you're good it's all
1214s good oh no no after you I insist we
1222s um we just added uh kind of simplified
1224s uh sound modding support so this is very
1227s this is it's pretty Bare Bones but with
1230s that being said
1231s um it lets you place custom sounds and
1233s put in custom music
1235s um there's a few kavits or caveats I I
1238s don't know how to say the word but I've
1240s got a I've got a um a dock that I'm
1243s typing up right now and I'm gonna
1244s include it in The Unofficial modding
1246s guide and that's that's a Quantum nuke
1249s project and he's actually a newer member
1250s of our team and he's awesome dude you
1253s gotta gotta ask that guy more questions
1254s because he like he knows all this stuff
1256s just off the top of his head but um yeah
1259s ideally in the future we're going to
1260s have much more in-depth support so
1262s that's like you don't need fmod right
1264s now to mod but in the future we want to
1267s have it so that you can crack openfmod
1269s and have all these crazy parameter
1271s changes and just do stuff how you
1274s envision it rather than with this kind
1276s of restrictive way that we have now
1279s yeah he's watching us right now by the
1282s way I see him yeah just gonna shout out
1283s to Quantum nuke who was a modder whom we
1286s hired as well uh late last year mid to
1288s late last year doing a great job this is
1291s the king did I work anything

1298s so we'll we'll be getting uh getting
1301s those modders all tools we need we've uh
1304s thanks to you guys and uh both the
1306s modders I've been able to uh kind of
1309s pass off exactly what they're looking
1310s for and get you know bits and pieces to
1312s help them do what they need but having a
1314s good and proper SDK will be
1317s a massive Boon to everyone
1321s yeah so if we can get a few of the key
1323s modders who are Keen to help and um I
1326s guess um help with the direction of that
1329s sort of stuff by all means let's do that
1331s they're they're chopping at the bit I
1333s can tell you that much so we've got 239
1336s of them 238 I must have offended someone
1339s 37 look it's gone down

1344s that's
1346s um that is a big thing for us I just
1347s wanted to tack on there it's like you
1349s know the very robust mod support is
1350s going to be really cool I even saw that
1352s I saw this recently I think it was a
1353s couple days ago someone dropped that uh
1356s Ragdoll return ragdoll's return or
1358s something um which looks really cool
1359s things like that
1361s being able to introduce mods like that
1362s you know I really really like seeing
1364s that kind of stuff I think there's
1365s another mod out there
1367s um I saw I think it was gunfighter mod
1369s which was even just moving around the uh
1372s it wasn't just before the view model
1373s there's a almost a total gameplay of a
1375s whole um from someone who you know
1377s they're like oh I like it like this I
1378s like this specific kind of gameplay
1381s um those kinds of mods are really cool
1383s because
1384s you want to be able to have that access
1387s you know from the community if someone
1388s says oh I really like I like reading I
1390s like how it feels but I really want to
1392s be able to get in more firefights or
1394s even something as simple as I don't
1395s really like what the view model is on
1396s this screen having that kind of depth in
1398s customization model and modification is
1400s is really cool and it brings me back to
1403s the old days of like modding where you
1405s really could change a lot of things you
1406s could play around with a lot of
1407s different variables and get kind of
1409s Cadier and experience if you really
1411s wanted to and you start seeing these mod
1413s packs kind of arise as a result which is
1415s super super cool you know wait we're
1417s making reading on how we want to see
1418s ready or not if there's really someone
1420s out there who's like yeah I want to see
1422s this I want to see that you know like oh
1423s you know we release the SDK and
1425s someone's like oh yeah they've still got
1426s the animations for sprinting let's say
1427s and um you know oh they've still got all
1430s the code it's just commented out boom
1432s I'm going to write that I'm going to add
1433s this in or it's a I mean I don't think
1436s they're going to give source source
1437s source code access I'm not Taylor sure
1438s but those kinds of things
1441s um I think it's really cool to see and
1444s and I don't honestly that's definitely
1446s where like the end point for modding in
1448s my opinion that'd be really cool for
1449s where it goes but even as a baseline
1451s just maps and weapons and um even like
1454s yeah gameplay overhauls are really cool
1456s and ai2 is considering how our AI is now
1458s written uh Ali's made it very easy for
1461s people to kind of write new behaviors
1462s yeah it's all in assets and uh
1464s blueprints that can be extended
1466s um yeah yeah yeah I just need to find a
1469s way to um
1470s like um
1472s a modest to like modify that
1476s um so yeah
1477s yeah yeah like we're rolling back to
1480s something you had said earlier uh
1482s designing a game that you want to see
1485s rather than what you think the community
1486s wants to see really is at least in my
1489s opinion the way to do it because that
1490s way you
1492s create a a more robust more cohesive
1495s sort of experience rather than kind of
1497s bouncing around all over the place
1499s yeah I mean it's it's good to have a
1501s finger in the wind with the community
1502s it's like how things are going you
1503s really sounding like ah sucks you gotta
1505s [ __ ] all right that's not a good idea
1506s then we need to go back to the drawing
1507s board but uh when it comes to yeah I
1510s mean look I wanted to make
1512s um this game since I was like yeah 16.
1515s and we have this we're so um I mean
1517s we're all very grateful for this
1518s opportunity but I'll speak for myself
1519s I'm very very grateful for this
1521s opportunity to even be able to do this
1522s that um you know I don't necessarily
1526s want to capitulate and be like oh well
1527s we're just going to make what everyone
1528s wants to see because it's impossible you
1530s can't please that many people it's not
1532s feasible so yeah you make the game you
1533s want to make but giving people the tools
1535s to make what they want to make is is
1537s it's second to none if anything that's
1539s that's like that's even it's even better
1541s you know some people will be better devs
1543s than you know like from what their goals
1545s are like if your goal is to make like
1548s uh a zombie mod let's say you may be a
1551s better
1552s creator of that like you may be a better
1554s developer in that sphere than we would
1556s be if we try to do it like that is
1558s absolutely entirely possible and that's
1559s why modding is so cool and what's why
1561s that's why we hire a lot of modders
1562s because there is that
1565s um they're so passionate and they're
1567s also really really talented and you go
1569s well if you're interested love to
1571s collaborate more together because that
1573s is just like it's the icing on the cake
1574s that's like where the it's the it's the
1577s creative juncture that you want to
1579s achieve
1580s um with your community I think and you
1582s can't have that without modding so yeah
1583s no that's um yeah that's the end of my
1586s answer to that yeah but I hate to say
1588s crafting and ready or not stealing yeah
1591s absolutely you're going to start
1592s crafting on shifts
1594s um
1595s loot cabinets and crashes
1598s yeah
1601s to kind of build on top of that as well
1602s sorry for interrupting guys um just to
1604s kind of build on what stolen was saying
1605s as well I think we're in a like a really
1608s interesting sort of position as well as
1610s developers where you know just as a
1612s working example like some of the past
1613s games I've worked on and stuff like that
1615s you don't have this kind of feedback
1617s with the people playing your game until
1619s it goes out the door and then by that
1621s point it's really too late to kind of do

1667s playthroughs of people playing the game

1673s there's someone playing the last
1674s iteration and uh like I could speak on

1679s there's like a bug that you missed and
1680s some maybe they didn't even notice it
1682s but you just noticed as they're playing
1683s it you catch something you're like oh
1685s [ __ ] I gotta go in and like fix that up
1687s so like that's we're thankful because
1689s you guys are catching all this stuff and
1691s you're also giving us the feedback ASAP

1718s not use anything else

1722s that I want to make sure we want to make
1725s sure that really or not supports mods in
1728s the way that we've already talked about
1729s so once we get the SDK worked out then
1732s we can go back and revisit the other mod
1734s platforms available but by no means are
1736s we saying no to anything or yes to

1749s the Advent of mod IO is why one over the
1753s other especially if you were planning on

1765s that's probably it I guess
1768s the goal with Modio initially was to so
1772s if someone went out of their way and
1774s made a
1775s I don't know like a Grand Theft Auto
1777s style Ready or Not mod with careers and
1780s money generating and whatnot
1782s um then with Modio they can monetize
1785s that mod and and we can it's a way we
1788s can support the community with their
1789s mods especially for people who take a
1791s lot of time
1792s um to do this sort of stuff and then
1794s they can share that money with the
1795s assets or the people that I've worked
1797s with to make that mod uh successful
1799s which is something you can't necessarily
1801s do in other areas so we were really
1803s looking at that

1806s yeah I mean to be fair if you think
1808s about modding from like holistically
1810s it's just loading Peg files into the
1812s game we need an easy way to do that
1814s um so we've used Modio I think that
1817s decision was actually made before I
1818s joined
1819s um for now
1820s well this is just really convenient it's
1822s just right in the game right in the menu
1823s just press a button and uh just
1826s automatic downloads for sure and the big
1829s thing for us like to pick you up but to
1831s piggyback off what Steve said having
1834s um the ability for modders to monetize
1836s the stuff it's not like the Skyrim style
1838s like oh yeah now you must pay like we
1840s can basically go oh well you can let's
1843s take a like a Kofi you guys if anyone as
1845s that is it's like the the kind of like
1847s you buy something oh you donate some
1848s money yeah it's a good donations like
1849s you can do that you can do it in a lot
1851s of other ways you can actually run
1853s um campaigns too to be like oh well we
1855s got this competition like come and run
1856s this come do this come do this and it's
1857s all within the the monitor kind of like
1859s system itself
1861s um and that was really exciting to us
1862s when we jumped in uh and yeah we talked
1865s to our workshop and um again it's not
1867s off the it's really not off the table
1868s but for us Workshop has always been
1870s something we're like well we need to
1871s finish what really not is let's say
1873s hypothetically just for you guys
1875s um
1876s hypothetically we released Steam
1878s Workshop
1880s um
1880s instead of what I like now
1883s and then what you've done is like and
1885s that was when we released that the AI
1887s was the different an entirely different
1889s system
1890s um I feel like steam worship has a very
1892s large reach everyone's going oh sweet
1894s load in downloads the mods let's go
1896s let's get this let's get that

1898s what we noticed was when we released a
1900s new update actually a lot of mods ended
1902s up breaking the AI system the new one
1904s that we had because it's almost a
1905s completely different system a lot of the
1906s randomized values that we have in the AI
1908s data table aren't used anymore
1909s um for example a lot of them are now
1911s because the AI score stuff we can get
1913s into that later if there's any questions
1914s about the AI but
1916s um it's a different system and I'm not
1919s saying this is why we did it but it is a
1921s reason why Steam Workshop would have
1922s been introduced later is because or will
1924s be interested is because the
1927s um there's a I feel like there's a very
1929s large ridge with that with Steam
1931s Workshop and you could potentially be
1933s breaking even more stuff um just that we
1935s wouldn't even be aware of and we really
1939s want to make sure that there is a solid
1941s SDK
1942s um at the end of our release and our
1944s plan was always to be like okay well the
1945s workshop we're going to release that uh
1947s you know with a big SDK and make sure
1949s it's like finished so we're not like
1950s updating the core gameplay framework
1953s um obviously releasing model either way
1956s for us it's like well you know we're
1957s early you know we're still working on
1959s the game so let's experiment with some
1961s alternative routes and um they've been
1964s you know it's been very easy to work
1965s with them uh and and can't work with the
1967s systems and we've seen a few other games
1969s that have used their systems that have
1970s done well and obviously the community's
1972s highlighted a few games that have used
1973s the systems and not done well
1975s um but that doesn't necessarily you know
1977s correlation doesn't equal causation
1978s noise so who's who's to say sometimes as
1981s well as the other way around sometimes
1982s it's not necessarily just because the
1983s model is successful it's just because
1984s the game has got the certain mod
1986s framework that it has
1988s um so we're just experimenting guys you
1990s know like it's just kind of what we're
1991s doing right now but it's like Steve said
1993s we're not locked into anything
1995s um we want to get the SDK out and we
1997s want to finish and not touch ready and
1999s not base we really don't want to touch
2000s reading our base first and then we can
2002s kind of look at how everything feels
2004s because that's the big thing for us
2005s right is getting into that final stage
2007s and locking that in then you know
2009s because we're always we're very flexible
2011s right now everything's kind of you know
2013s it's it's it's super flexible right now

2019s the technical stuff makes it excellent

2130s Forefront of our mind and yeah something

2175s um so trying to find what's the most
2178s important thing to do is is difficult so
2180s if we think about ready or not as a game
2182s it really and we went from zero to a
2185s hundred overnight uh last year when it
2187s was released and so yeah we we're still
2190s playing catch-up in some ways um it's
2193s good zero to 100 you mean like
2196s what do you mean no when we released
2198s overnight last you know uh to steam last
2200s year you know we we went
2202s it just went nuts no one could have
2205s anticipated how big it got and and how
2207s fast Iran has exploded it's honestly
2211s been kind of absurd
2217s how I put it and how I told people it's
2219s three guys in a basement
2221s uh you're sitting at number one on Steam
2223s for a while right that's really what
2225s we're trying to deal with we're trying
2226s to build us into is this large company
2228s where you compete with the Triple A's
2230s with the budget of three guys in a bus
2232s basement but that's where we were when
2235s we started
2237s sorry I'm sure you don't live in the
2239s basement no I still do growth is uh
2243s I don't mind it here you know mummy
2245s brings me food it's great
2251s I'm not being sarcastic again no so
2253s there is there is that element to it I
2256s think where you do want
2259s um you kind of like
2262s you want to grow really fast
2264s and for anyone here who's like looking
2266s at starting a business is like in the or
2268s has a business that they've been working
2269s on
2270s um that is the thing you know you oh
2271s growth growth I want to have 100
2273s employees I don't have 200 employees
2274s there's a lot that goes into that um the
2276s more people you have doesn't necessarily
2277s just make it better you can't just hire
2279s a hunt like you can't hire 10
2280s programmers and it just works it's not
2282s how it works you have multiple aspects
2284s that you have to consider if you
2285s consider but the code debt you have to
2287s consider the um the uh the cost of
2290s actually bringing them up to speed
2291s getting used to the team do they work
2293s well with the team does that it
2295s literally takes like one month at least
2297s to just familiarize yourself with the
2299s code and all that and then you've got to
2301s make sure you go to vet them and you've
2302s got to vet them before you even hire
2303s them you're going to meet with them a
2304s couple times there's a lot of steps
2305s involved because and also programming
2307s programs are not cheap so you need to
2309s make sure you pick the right people
2311s um and then there is the element of uh
2314s you know manage and so that's just the
2316s program it's then you've got to manage
2317s that so you need and you go might go
2319s well we have 10 programmers they'll just
2320s do tasks we give them no are you going
2322s to know you've got to make sure their
2323s tasks are being tracked that being
2325s managed effectively there is the right
2327s middle middle Management's the wrong
2329s word but there's the right management
2330s that is in charge of that because you
2332s can only manage so many people before
2333s you actually uh kind of overextend and
2336s that's how it does that's just how it
2337s works we've done really well I think
2339s kind of like promoting people into
2340s positions where like they've shown
2342s excellence in and they're like they're
2343s actually really talented at managing
2345s people to Spain by their nature
2347s um or they just want to some people like
2349s are good at it but they just don't want
2351s to do it
2352s um and we've allowed them to almost like
2354s become leadership figures uh and and I
2358s think that's something where it goes
2360s okay great that's a really good way of
2362s kind of Bridging the Gap
2364s um but at some point you and all of a
2365s sudden you're no longer hiring
2366s programmers you're hiring uh you know
2368s um maybe like a specific producer role
2370s that Shanghai that works with programs
2371s or you're hiring someone who's in charge
2373s of like a lead producer and then like a
2375s bunch of other ones and it just kind of
2376s starts to balloon out yeah um on top of
2379s the fact that in with Early Access
2382s software it's not like bringing somebody
2384s onto something that's
2386s um to an established project there's not
2389s a uh a Bible of okay here's what
2391s everything does study this okay now
2393s start working on it
2395s yeah exactly and it's like oh we have a
2397s relation and and on top of all that we
2398s have a release in like a week you know
2400s what I mean like that's then all of a
2401s sudden it's not it's not we don't have a
2403s release in a week by the way I'm still
2406s working up please say that yeah
2408s um but yeah that's the uh that's that's
2411s the short of it I think I forgot what

2422s with yeah with the SDK
2424s talking about development what's what's
2427s the most important thing but when you've
2429s got more than three people working
2431s together it does get a lot harder from a
2433s communication point of view and it's
2435s important to note that we're fully
2437s remote and around the globe for example
2440s uh Mr 3DS over in UK I'm a New Zealand
2443s you know we're um those are the opposite
2445s time zones yet we still manage to
2447s deliver this game and some of us haven't
2450s even met each other
2451s Steve being the Mad lad crawling himself
2454s out of bed at eight in the morning on
2455s his side 1 p.m my side and we're
2458s squeezing out a release in what 15
2460s minutes getting all of our stuff done
2462s oh before the morning and that's why the
2465s release times are what they are because
2466s I do the releases in New Zealand
2470s yeah but it's really cool but it does
2474s bring some interesting challenges around
2476s how do we handle the scale
2478s um yeah it's again it's not three people
2480s just talking in a room anymore or on on
2482s Discord it's 40 to 50 people yeah no
2485s it's true like I've been in teams of
2488s kind of like 20 environment artists in
2490s the past and one thing I can say is like
2492s the way that we're working it's kind of
2494s incredible in a way that like I never
2497s thought it would work but it's one of
2500s those things where I would rather and I
2503s mean no pun with this but I would rather
2504s have a SWAT team of a few people that I
2506s know that I can give the job to and
2509s we've got the communication there and
2510s they're passionate I think the passion
2512s really is like a massive factor in this
2514s like everyone who's making Ready or Not
2516s wants to make ready or not so like we've
2520s we've had it in the past where we've
2521s expanded our team and you know we've
2523s we've not necessarily got the people
2524s who've got that passion there and it
2526s shows and you know we have such a big
2528s trust
2530s um within our company kind of ethics and
2532s how we work with each other like we
2533s trust each other not only to get the job
2535s done but uh you know to have those
2538s Communications and to talk with people
2539s and make sure that like you're that
2542s we're always striving for the next best
2544s thing rather than just kind of doing
2545s what we're being told
2547s um so yeah like I would rather take a
2549s smaller SWAT team of people than an army
2552s any day like our output is incredible
2554s compared to like some of the teams that
2556s I've worked with in the past
2557s um and yeah it's one of those things
2559s where exactly what you're saying more
2561s people does not necessarily mean more
2564s content or more quality it it if
2566s anything it becomes just more waste of
2568s time as you're trying to Corral all of
2570s that to get the final product exactly
2573s yeah yeah very awesome

2578s bit of a break from all the uh all the
2580s really technical heartfelt stuff and um
2583s ask if uh you guys actually have
2586s anything bracketed for
2589s um kind of like SWAT four style single
2591s player scenarios campaigns

2609s Richland you probably get a bit of that
2610s but I'm not gonna say anything else

2617s so the way that we're looking at the
2619s campaign this question come up I had a
2621s dream about it uh the way that we're
2624s looking at the the way the single player
2626s is going to work isn't the typical swap
2628s for like oh play this level then you
2631s unlock the night vision and then you
2632s continue the next level and you get it
2635s um mostly because the way that we're
2637s going to release run the future is you
2638s know continue to expand the um
2642s uh lithuanas world you know like we
2646s really want to expand this city and like
2648s think like Payday 2 how you just at the
2649s end of that that game I don't even know
2651s they might still be making
2654s um I don't think they're still making
2655s levels for it but whatever by the time
2656s that was done their production was done
2658s um they had a shitload of levels that
2660s you just play it was awesome
2662s um we want to have that and also plus
2664s Community Maps as well which is really
2666s cool
2668s um we want to be able to have that and
2669s then have a
2671s an in a sense a narrative that allows
2673s the player to kind of like experience
2675s this in a way that's very engaging so
2677s the way that we're looking at it is
2681s um we're calling it uh less Thanos
2684s Commander
2685s um and it's a little bit more of an
2687s active world that you are kind of
2689s managing and then uh it's it's a lot
2692s more it's kind of permadeathy I'll leave
2695s it there just because again it's it's
2696s very similar to the customization these
2698s are the two things that were experience
2699s so personalization these are the two
2701s things it was actually there are three
2703s things I don't say a third one there are
2704s two things that were experimenting with
2705s just to see how they feel
2707s um this is something that I think would
2708s be really exciting if we get it right
2710s um it would probably become something
2712s that I would hope you know that's
2715s something that really
2716s cement's original is an incredible
2718s unique game
2720s um far beyond its its peers as as cool
2722s as some of these other games out there
2724s are and they've got their own you know
2725s drawers
2727s um but in this in this realm I think it
2728s would be something that was really
2729s unique um and also
2732s uh what's the right word for it
2735s um like
2737s contextually it makes sense yeah the
2739s world that that radar setting isn't
2741s meant to be like a nice place and it's
2742s meant to be quite even the even the fact
2745s you're not you're not doing all the
2746s missions you know your character isn't
2749s doing all the missions there are other
2750s SWAT teams out there putting out other
2751s fires so to speak
2753s um and even some of your guys might go
2755s and do some of that too some of you guys
2757s might be you know uh part-time officers
2760s you know you have a full-time sport team
2761s but there might be some part-time
2762s officers in there
2763s um you know and maybe while you're
2766s playing things kind of happen to you in
2769s the
2770s um well it's your team in the world you
2772s know every week get a Roundup and you
2775s know maybe uh one of your part-time
2777s officers was on a patrol lost his call
2780s um you know broke some kid's arm you
2782s know did something like that and now
2784s he's been suspended he can't use him for
2785s the next mission things like that that's
2787s where we'd like to explore it and um
2789s still tell a story but it's a story that
2792s continues to always like it continues to
2794s grow until itself and then you know
2795s that's that's where we'd like to go with
2797s it
2798s um but again I'm getting very nervous to
2800s almost
2801s if it doesn't work we may not release it
2803s just keep that in mind guys just like if
2805s it doesn't work like we'll probably like
2808s I'll probably we'll have another q a
2809s I'll be like we tried it it sounds cool
2811s babe it's not cool in gameplay but uh
2813s Los Windows Commander would be something
2815s where we really you know it really it
2817s changes the the single player itself
2819s isn't just like cult with Bots it's

2823s the station is you know breathing it's
2826s it's it's a different kind of
2828s environment and you have to make
2830s decisions in game and before you load up
2835s um that really affect you you know the
2837s uh you know future missions or affect
2839s your team you know that's kind of where
2842s we want to go with it or where I'd like
2843s to go with it that sounds cool as hell
2845s yeah I mean I could go on all day about
2848s like we have this like you know we've
2849s got this document written up we've got
2850s all these plans now that um kind of
2852s stick they kind of hinge on the SWAT Ai
2854s and a few other things
2855s um a few other you know gameplay
2857s elements but yeah yeah it should be
2859s really cool and it also it's all look
2861s the whole game
2862s to now has been almost created with this
2865s in mind like it has been it's not just
2868s something we've gone oh look at it now
2869s no this has been something that all the
2871s all the modes the mission types that
2873s wasn't a thing until this mode was kind
2874s of this idea was kind of formulated
2876s you've got your
2878s uh hostage risk you've got all this
2880s other stuff you know you've got uh and
2882s these modes are all meant to be
2884s um kind of hinging on the ls Commander
2887s mode
2888s um which again may or may not come out
2890s the way I'm explaining it uh very
2892s vaguely explaining it right now so
2895s yeah it has been something that we've
2896s been talking about and planning for a
2897s while uh and and we'll see how it goes
2900s and I'd be really excited if we can get
2901s it right I think with this team that's
2903s why I'm so confident
2905s um that we can get it right
2907s because I think with early teams it
2908s might have been a little bit more
2909s difficult but with this team I think
2911s yeah we can we could probably nail this
2912s I think with the skill level everyone's
2914s at right now it could be really exciting
2916s if we get it right

3056s in our levels at the moment yeah the
3059s only way that I could see that working
3060s is if we did like and again I'm not
3062s saying we're doing this by any means but
3064s if we did do some kind of like hardcore
3066s sort of like single player campaign
3068s where it would be like a One-Shot sort
3070s of like scripted event
3072s um you know like very akin to like a
3073s Call of Duty kind of company yeah I
3075s think that's the only word that that
3076s kind of scenario would work is if we can
3077s just vastly and heavily limit what
3081s they're just kind of curate where like
3083s here at the exact level to make it for a
3086s drone exactly yeah but because our
3088s gameplay just basically doesn't support
3090s bass like there's just I can't imagine
3092s that's ever gonna be a thing no look
3094s it's probably not going to be a thing
3095s and yeah we definitely do any curated
3097s levels like that but it it probably
3099s won't be a thing and until
3102s it might be something we do in some sort
3103s of DLC I think uh it might find its way
3106s in really the idea is you've got to
3107s build your level around around these
3109s things like lattice you've got to build
3110s your level around that as a valley kind
3112s of was meant to be built with ladders in
3114s mind and then it shifted a little bit
3115s because we realized that they were
3116s difficult as hell to get to work
3119s um but and we were doing a thousand
3121s things but yes there are plans for new
3123s technical items to answer your question
3124s um we have a few different things there
3127s they've been animated they've been
3128s modeled so that's cool
3130s um but we haven't really touched on them
3132s yet I think we have so many larger

3167s pretty cool you'd like to kind of like
3169s make x's or like squares or whatever but
3171s now it's just more like something where
3173s it's like we have all the assets for it
3174s we haven't really thought past that and
3177s um the thing with our design is like
3179s well
3179s you can only be like right now C C2
3182s breaches the door it just blows the door
3183s up so there's no real like there's no
3185s other way to bridge the door if you if
3187s you disintegrate the door then that's it
3189s but
3190s um as we go we might find ourselves
3191s getting you know and the community
3193s probably this is something where you
3194s land in the community a bit get a bit
3196s bored of just breaching every door the
3197s same way so maybe there's you know
3199s different types of door that all of a
3201s sudden having a certain type of bridge
3202s would be very useful that's actually
3204s that's not what I was going to ask or um
3206s or hell since the since the dead chord
3207s is a much smaller explosive you could
3210s have it where you breach with a dead
3211s cord and it doesn't you know harm
3213s anybody behind the door just because you
3215s know you're not putting a block of uh
3217s plastic explosives
3218s exactly yeah exactly there's a lot of
3220s different ways you could do it um and
3222s yeah maybe it's yield is smaller maybe
3224s it can't Bridge certain like steel you
3225s know I mean like so all of a sudden
3226s that's how you kind of balance it out a
3228s bit
3229s um at this point we've got
3230s considerations for all this stuff I
3231s think this should be really cool all

3241s um oh that's actually a pretty good

3246s um any specific types of
3248s uh game modes or scenarios in The Wider
3251s multiplayer space that are specific to
3255s certain types of maps

3269s crack house having its own specific type
3272s of breach and clear
3275s yeah custom game mode for like each map
3278s you mean no it's like it sounds like
3281s it's like for healthy rescue for like uh
3283s for um for Valley would be

3287s maybe instead of there being a party or
3290s probably still be a party but you would
3292s have you know maybe you know Amos falls
3294s in the basement and there is you know
3296s maybe there are kids in the basement
3298s already and you've got to go rescue them
3299s instead of it being as
3302s um various potentials
3304s yeah so like um perhaps would have
3307s static scenarios that you can play in
3309s multiplayer instead of the randomize as
3311s it is now
3313s yeah yeah that's planned yeah actually
3316s it's planned for um hostage rescue
3318s specifically oh cool um yeah

3326s planned I should say but we again you
3329s know we need to see remains to be saying
3331s but I'm pretty sure that would be a good
3332s way to make hostage rescue a little more

3346s little selection process go when you
3347s guys are picking uh new guns to add into
3350s Ready or Not um you've already stated
3352s that you don't want to
3353s you don't want to make a 2 out there you
3356s want to kind of keep it where
3357s you want to give people guns so you want
3359s to give the players access to guns that
3362s law enforcement
3363s units do use but at what point is it not
3368s either is it either two out there or is
3370s it not used enough
3372s Navarro actually he Navarro tells us
3375s which ones sound the best and then based
3377s on that
3380s that's precisely not we will uh honestly
3384s a lot of the guns picked it is because
3385s they're interesting and there's there's
3387s a lot that are there that's what teams
3389s to use
3390s um yeah we're based off something maybe
3392s an advisor wouldn't mention like our
3394s advisor with Mission or uh it was
3396s something we've seen but really a lot of
3398s a lot of guys using M4 that's our
3400s platforms
3402s um so it's not
3404s so important platforms and things like
3405s that so it's not super
3407s it's various I think you know you have
3410s your like one and done kind of solution
3412s there
3413s um but a lot of now at this point we're
3415s like oh this is cool we like this you
3417s know we really like this specific gun we
3419s want to add this in

3422s uh you know it's cool like maybe one of
3424s us has gone to a range and shut it like
3426s I've shot a few guns um I took I took a
3429s few guns out to range and shot those and
3430s they were really unique weapons newer
3432s ones and I was like this is pretty cool
3434s let's work on these and everyone's like
3435s oh that seems like a cool gun ad let's
3436s do that well someone will be like oh I
3438s saw this gun in another game it's really
3440s sweet let's add this again
3441s um some guns that we are holding on to
3443s for other for other things I think

3446s just because you know you don't want to
3447s have a thousand weapons
3449s um in the base game
3451s it's kind of a lot so you can get a bit
3454s bored of making guns every time
3456s um so that's the other thing I mean if
3458s if we're talking about uh cool guns uh
3460s more bullpups win
3462s yeah yeah it's the uh what's the what's
3465s the most popular one that people want
3467s right now is like the Devore or is it
3468s like the AUG f88 specifically V Tavor
3472s x95 and the AUG A3

3533s we have some ideas on what the DLC could

3542s going to handle DLC I think you know
3545s we're like honestly my DLC
3548s DLC are usually like Maps you know what
3550s I mean like a lot of them will just be
3551s like packs of levels and things like

3558s I feel like I'm saying too much but like
3559s you'll have like you know the idea is
3561s almost like categorizing into DLCs and
3563s expansions DLCs are levels expansion
3565s packs might be new gameplay feature
3567s introductions as well as levels and
3569s characters and things like that
3571s um and that's kind of those are the two
3573s different ways that we want to
3574s potentially approach it

3577s and obviously no threats anyway AI
3579s threats and things like that um would
3580s probably be across both I think
3583s um we do have plans I don't want to say
3585s what those are just yet but we do have
3586s plans um some of them will serve you
3588s know the single player some of them will
3589s serve um not that you won't just be able
3591s to play them you'll be able to play on
3592s the co-op as well
3594s um they'll all have their own their own

3665s well we've got this uh it's the way that
3668s we're doing it is quite a unique way not
3670s just like some HUD that pops up on your
3671s screen or anything like that
3673s um it's accessible in the lobby and in
3674s the game uh and the way that we're doing
3677s it is a little bit more unique
3679s um we're calling it The sit rep menu
3681s right now
3682s so it's not let's say menu so to speak
3684s but you can pick
3686s in the lobby you'll be able to see the
3687s missions
3688s um pick your entry points and whatnot at
3690s some stage
3691s um as well as you know draw map plans uh
3693s kind of get an idea of what the map
3695s might look like and it's coming it's
3697s been Sam you might be able to talk a
3699s little bit about maybe the maps
3700s um how you've been handling some of
3702s those maps that we're looking at
3704s um because I think it's a really cool
3705s little little thing to have
3708s um but yeah no no we do we we actually
3710s wanted to release it with the atom
3712s update um but we kinda
3714s um some things happened uh outside of
3717s the development of the game
3719s um for some some individuals and they
3721s couldn't get it done in time so that
3723s will be something that will happen uh in
3726s the future and definitely something
3727s that's I'm really excited for because
3729s that's a big element to it's once you
3732s play like a lot of you probably played
3733s the maps a lot so you probably already
3734s know where every single room is you know
3736s you may even know where all the spawns
3738s are which is [ __ ] impressive
3742s um but that doesn't necessarily mean
3744s that you know having a map isn't useful
3746s especially with new players especially
3747s with people who may want to strategize a
3748s little bit more before they enter an
3750s engagement and there are even some other
3752s aspects of the sit rep menu which I
3754s won't talk about yet but things that we
3756s may be looking at which could
3759s make
3760s um
3761s some other gameplay elements a lot
3764s easier I'm being super vague but um yeah
3767s there's a few out there's a few aspects
3768s of this menu
3770s um we're probably looking at it
3771s replacing the tab
3773s button so you know you press tab the
3774s score comes up because the secret menu
3776s will encapsulate your map score it'll
3779s even give you team composition uh you
3781s know it won't tell you how much ammo
3782s they have or anything like that but you
3783s know if they're alive or not
3785s um
3786s and a few other things too objectives uh
3789s I already said that um and briefing
3792s information as well so there's a few
3794s things that you'll be able to get access
3795s to and ideally we give this to players
3797s in the lobby and then we give them
3800s different things in the game as well
3802s which they can also use
3805s from an outside as well that's just
3807s really great because it really sets the
3808s tone for the level it's like a little
3809s bit of like Flavor before you get into
3811s the game where we can just like you know
3812s establish some of the story stuff set
3814s the mood um and just have that little
3816s bit of freedom from an art side to kind
3818s of like get the player in in a certain
3820s frame of mind before they start the
3821s level absolutely and I mean the other
3824s thing that's really cool too is like you
3825s have a certain levels where maybe you
3826s don't have the and this is where we can
3828s interface with Dan with our um with our
3830s advisor and and he'll be like oh well
3833s you know in a situation like this you
3835s know we're responding kind of very
3837s quickly it's not planned so you probably
3840s try and get access to maybe a fire a
3842s fire escape plan or something like that
3844s you know we would say if it's a hotel or
3846s if it's an apartment you know it's just
3849s something there and then you know on the
3850s sit room and you pull it up and it's a
3852s Well Sam maybe you want to talk about
3854s what that could look like on the super
3855s menu
3857s um yeah I mean like I've kind of gotten
3859s started on some of the maps right now I
3862s think I've finished uh gases math and
3867s um
3868s I'm still kind of working on the map for
3871s um
3872s agency
3873s so but it's been really fun like
3878s um thinking about like the meth Maps

3882s I want to do like a typical house floor
3885s plan
3887s um but it's going to be interesting
3888s because like the current met Dallas has
3890s like all these holes in the walls and
3892s it's like falling up like falling apart

3896s but like the original floor plan is
3898s going to be all intact it's going to be
3900s you know this was originally built so

3906s that sort of unpredictability is kind of
3908s yeah that'll be cool and like some of
3910s the maps and I guess like um
3913s like the map for Club is going to be
3916s probably like a fire escape plan
3919s um that's been like taken off the wall

3923s it's kind of been marked by like the law
3925s enforcement that were there like

4081s would you start with sound sound design
4083s and you got any tips for anybody looking
4085s to kind of push into either sound design
4087s for video games or just sound design in
4089s general
4090s this is a very intense question but I'll
4093s try to cut it down as much as I can
4096s um so all I'm going to say is that covid
4098s really destroyed the line between kind
4101s of like one day you're like a bedroom
4104s sound designer producer and then the
4106s next day you're like in the AAA space
4110s um
4110s beforehand it was a lot of smaller
4112s projects and it was pretty like I was
4114s not really dealing with the sound design
4116s aspect it was more so the music aspect
4119s and that was just there's a short film
4121s that was uh shot in South Korea
4123s and there's a Nui Blanche project for
4126s and that's like a little thing that we
4127s do in Toronto um one night where you get
4130s you get a lot of artists who come down
4131s and they showcase their their pieces
4133s that they've been working on
4135s um
4136s but nothing really of this scope and
4139s definitely nothing where the
4140s collaboration is pretty much constant so
4143s the start was literally one day you know
4146s you make a a track and someone notices
4148s it and then you're chatting with the
4150s right people and it it really fell
4152s together that fast
4154s um and then from there it was just like
4156s okay so I've got to really pick up my
4158s socks now I've got to learn about
4160s um like for example uh
4163s I know I was just so curious about the
4165s entire process and and we have like a
4168s lot of open-ended access
4170s um in the in the void
4172s top secret Discord server where we can
4174s kind of see what what everyone's working
4175s on and then from there it's like okay so
4177s they're working on this I'll start
4179s working on this and and it's honestly
4181s just it's a learning process the whole
4183s way through like Mark couldn't have said
4184s it any better earlier
4185s um so how to get started on that
4187s well basically it's just you've got to
4190s be able to kind of develop your own uh
4193s system that works for you and you've got
4195s to tell yourself okay
4196s like this person might be doing
4198s something like how do I emulate it but
4200s at the end of the day you want to make
4202s your own stuff that that people
4204s kind of want to they kind of want to
4208s um emulate off of you and that's it's
4211s kind of a I hate being this vague with
4213s the question but it's really the best
4215s way I can voice it is just do you do
4217s your own thing and keep working at it

4221s and also be sure to just kind of like
4224s when you're playing games like if if you
4227s like a sound effect for example if you
4229s like a music track like maybe try to

4237s essentially you just really want to like
4240s keep practicing keep keep doing the
4241s thing that you love doing
4243s um you don't have to be a master at
4244s everything
4245s but if you really like pinpoint that one

4249s just keep kind of
4251s working at that you really can get
4253s somewhere as long as you stay focused
4255s and you keep yourself on a good timeline
4256s with you know the kind of stuff that you
4259s like doing
4261s I'm sure you can relate with this as
4263s well Zach when when I kind of say like
4265s one of the one of the best kind of
4266s devices I can give um to kind of go on
4268s with that um is yeah like like as I said
4271s like even when you're just like playing
4273s games or you're going for a walk or
4275s you're traveling or whatever you're
4276s doing the thing that makes like the
4279s difference between sort of like a good
4281s artist and a really really really good
4283s artist is building that sort of like
4285s mental library that you can sort of like
4287s pull from and you're not just looking at
4290s stuff but you're observing stuff and
4292s you're seeing how it works and you're
4293s pulling it apart in your head and you're
4294s you're learning just kind of like from a
4296s day-to-day stuff
4298s um and I imagine you do that as well a
4299s lot Zach when it comes to like you know
4301s taking inspiration from everything
4303s around you I was going to say well Mark
4305s is also he's a he's definitely seasoned
4307s vet of the industry and that's why I'm
4309s having trouble you can hear me kind of
4310s stumbling over my words I'm just trying
4312s to like uh finally voice what's what's
4314s that day-to-day thing that that uh that
4317s it's like when you're working with sound
4319s but uh yeah completely mental Library
4321s like what does this sound sound like at
4323s this distance
4325s um how do I build the music so that it's
4327s more tense in this area of the game and
4328s then also the other thing is when I
4329s first started with void uh I really did
4332s not have a good concept of blueprints
4334s and um it's like kind of a very
4337s primitive language in ue4 to get things
4341s to trigger or or just work in a very
4344s basic sense so learning that alongside
4347s with kind of building the skills that I
4349s need to make the music and the sound
4352s just as good as it can be for already or
4354s not that's that was like a pretty
4355s challenging thing to kind of uh build on
4358s so
4361s but there's a few um things that that
4364s come on from there as well Zach it goes
4367s to all um areas of work it's it's
4369s attitude and attitude you just got to
4371s get in there give it a go and learn and
4372s learn and learn so Sterling and some of
4374s the other Founders have never made a
4376s game I know uh because one of the
4378s founders is my younger brother
4380s um and he I remember when he said to me
4381s I'm going to make a game that's it it's
4383s actually pretty hard to make a game
4385s that's well I've never made a game and
4387s seven years later we have ready or not
4389s he taught himself to program he just
4391s learned what he needed to learn to get
4393s the job done and so attitude aptitude
4395s and some resilience and you can learn
4397s yeah 100 I I I do visiting lectures
4401s around various different universities
4402s and things like that and one of the
4404s things one of the mantras that I not
4406s only live by but one of the ones that I
4407s try and propagate to everyone is fail
4409s faster like just the idea of okay I
4412s don't know how to do something you can
4414s sit and think about it and read upon it
4416s and learn about it as much as you want
4417s but until you're actually like Hands-On
4420s trying stuff throwing stuff in the
4422s engine seeing what works seeing what
4423s doesn't work picking it apart like just
4425s getting getting your hands dirty and
4428s learning like what doesn't work faster
4431s is how you then learn from your mistakes
4433s and just get better so yeah failing
4435s faster is a wonderful Mantra that I I
4437s really do live by I mean it's a lot
4441s better to know what doesn't work than
4442s what does because then you can more
4444s easily Focus yourself down
4446s yeah I mean you know I've said this
4449s before on the other AMA um but like half
4451s of what making games is isn't knowing
4453s how to how to make a game it's how not
4456s to make a game
4458s I I agree I mean I I think that probably
4462s the best way I can like wrap it up
4464s um is just by saying the tools that we
4466s use in the game right now those are like
4468s you can download fmod right now and pop
4471s it into a Unity or Unreal Engine 4
4473s project and then from there like like if

4637s sometimes like they don't like operate

4643s that's what I we're just trying like
4644s SWAT three aisles yeah we're trying to
4646s we're trying to do something better than
4648s that so that's that's the idea but um
4650s yeah um came for that too

4658s so I know one of the things
4660s um Navarro was actually really
4661s interested in getting some
4663s realistic weapon Reflections just stuff
4666s that bounces off the environment
4668s um now the other thing is like we really
4670s wanted to use a more out of the box
4673s solution something like an Oculus
4675s Plug-In or a resonance audio or steam
4677s audio unfortunately we we did we tested
4680s all of these we ran them through the
4682s gauntlet and it's just uh someone that
4683s would break within 10 minutes or we
4685s wouldn't be able to use all the key
4686s features or they were just too expensive
4689s which means that we do have to develop a
4691s custom solution
4693s so it's a little bit more work and
4694s having to steal someone from coding
4696s um while they already have their
4698s plateful is it's a balancing act but I
4700s think we'll we'll get it sorted out
4703s um yeah every plugin we tried is always
4705s just that one thing that's just wrong
4707s with it and we just can't use it's
4708s pretty annoying it kills us like it
4711s really kills us because steam audio has
4712s some absolutely crazy stuff and I know
4715s um there's been I know someone posted a
4717s demo video where you're walking around
4718s you can hear the sound really bending
4720s around the corners and it's just it
4721s kills me it kills me too but uh no so
4724s there's there's working on something
4726s like that
4727s um I know footsteps has also been a
4730s thing as well where you can hear

4750s of the default footstep sounds was kind
4752s of janky so we're getting that swapped
4754s out as we speak
4756s but uh no it's pretty much just uh
4759s advancing on what we're already doing so
4761s just making sure things are more
4762s detailed uh really getting that kind of
4764s special sound locked in uh but yeah it's
4768s improving that's basically what the
4770s sound team's at right now

4786s um one thing that I you know I will just
4788s say as a kind of blanket statement is

4794s creative control with what sort of like
4797s the levels look like I I really feel
4799s like I get to basically just go
4801s completely nuts from a creative
4803s standpoint
4804s um and yeah like the the next couple of
4808s maps um sort of that we're working at
4810s the moment
4811s um it's it's definitely pushed my
4814s boundaries like is it like as an artist
4816s like I'm feeling like I get to be a lot
4818s more creatively involved um with
4820s different sort of like things I would
4822s have not necessarily done before and I'm
4824s playing with different Avenues of
4825s Storytelling
4827s um so yeah like the next couple of maths
4828s is going to be incredibly story Rich
4830s um I've also you know done
4833s um a little bit more design work um on
4835s this next map which is uh something I'm
4837s not you know super confident with
4838s obviously we have dedicated gameplay
4840s designers
4841s um who primarily do the blockouts but
4843s I've doubled in that a little bit as
4845s well so you know I'm always excited
4847s about all the new maps coming out
4849s um because yeah like every new map for
4851s me is a new challenge and I get to just
4852s be completely creatively you know free
4855s with it which is awesome
4857s um it's Sterling already made a point of
4858s mentioning the the new station
4860s beforehand so I can kind of kind of go
4862s with that that for us
4864s um of me especially it it it it's such a
4868s staple of what the game kind of like
4872s is from from a
4874s um
4875s to put it a different way it's like it's
4877s the lobby it's where you spend most of
4879s time it's gonna be you know where
4880s there's so much like story driven
4882s aspects of the game everyone's going to
4884s be in there as you're loading the levels
4886s it's so important to us that we get the
4888s lobby right
4889s um so I'm really excited to basically
4891s give the the lobby like a whole new
4894s Fresh coat of pants
4896s um and you know completely different
4897s design different atmosphere and you know
4899s take a lot more of the boxes that we
4902s wanted to do in the previous one and
4903s expand it out further into all these
4905s other kind of different Avenues
4907s and it's funny that Mark Mark mentions
4909s the lobby um the new Lobby music that we
4912s have now was was kind of like a very I
4915s guess early blueprint of like how the
4917s music's gonna shift when you move around
4919s so you go to this one area and it's
4920s gonna go into something else and then
4922s somewhere else and you get all these
4924s different layers coming in so

4929s it's gonna be pretty sweet I I the uh
4931s yeah the station is the lobby the new
4933s Lobby is going to be pretty exciting
4934s because the other one we had was like
4936s the one that you guys played now even if
4938s we gave it a bit of an update with some
4939s more detail which is kind of showing
4942s that it's falling apart they have to
4943s move right

4945s honestly a lot of that stuff
4948s um you know we had this gray box and
4950s it's like three stories you know it's
4951s three floors and it's it's really cool
4953s it was made painstakingly made by one of
4955s our designers and
4957s um
4958s uh it you know you can't really it
4961s doesn't really work for a current
4962s gameplay so we needed to make something
4963s more catered
4967s so uh

5066s guess diving into mod via the Modio
5068s button we're finding a few issues with
5071s with mods not working correctly so just
5073s trying to improve that experience and
5074s then also improve the experience for our
5076s models as well so that's will be what

5086s the World building animations I wanna uh
5090s I'm excited to get that like working
5091s again because right now it's broken in

5108s like once they are loaded they just uh

5191s um suspects where
5194s uh their motivation seems a lot more
5196s gray see uh law-abiding citizen or uh
5200s like a vigilante group who
5203s you know is is very much breaking the
5205s law but they're not bad people
5209s yeah no that's a great that's a great
5212s question and honestly that's a big thing
5213s for us right now is that everyone's evil
5216s and there's actually a lot of a lot of
5217s people in the world who are just like
5218s it's almost too too much but you know we
5221s have to do it to serve the gameplay in a
5223s sense but we do have
5225s um
5226s this is the only
5228s um the guest suspects are not like
5229s purely evil yeah arguably just well yeah
5232s I think they're just drug they're uh
5235s traditionally evil they're uh you know
5236s gangers holding up a a uh station that
5240s has already shot people
5242s yeah we have um we have plans though for
5244s some some more gray area kind of stuff
5248s um we've got beachfront which does have
5251s that uh
5252s it's it's almost like I think we want to
5255s branch in a little bit more we kind of
5256s experimented that with Valley um not
5258s with Amos Vol but with the Bolton
5259s security agents and the idea that it's
5262s so bad in the city and it's so awful
5264s everywhere right now and we probably say
5266s in the world like you can't go anywhere
5268s they're kind of Trapped in this like
5270s decaying kind of City this like City
5272s that's falling apart
5274s um it's gotten to that point where you
5276s know there's just like
5279s there's nowhere for them to go and they
5281s need to support their families and
5282s Amazon is paying a very high price and
5285s they just they have they have something
5287s they need to do they have bills to pay
5288s so to speak even if it is selling their
5290s soul and that's not something that we're
5292s you know in this world that people don't
5293s do people absolutely sell themselves to
5295s do things especially for money
5297s um does that make you evil maybe not I
5298s don't know out of necessity sometimes
5300s things just have to be done I think um
5302s Amos Vol is not that person I'm talking
5305s about obviously the agents that work for
5306s him at least the ones that aren't
5308s necessarily aware of what happens
5311s um
5312s you know so I think that's kind of EX
5315s that's kind of walking into that
5316s territory a bit but they're still
5318s essentially letting this thing happen
5320s you could argue they're evil people
5321s um but there are in the game there will
5323s be characters that are almost having to
5326s do this kind of stuff
5327s um out of necessity uh uh you know
5331s because they've got sick family members
5333s um and they can't afford you know
5334s medical care or they
5337s um you know they've never seen this kind
5338s of money like that that some of these
5340s people will be making in this world
5341s would be things that they've probably
5342s never seen before and it kind of changes
5343s their their motivations so there are a
5346s lot of things that we'd be looking at
5347s doing I think in that world and
5349s um and making it more uh tangible
5352s because yeah a lot of the people are
5353s just evil but again
5356s um for the gameplay it can be quite hard
5359s to to rationalize
5361s people not just giving up immediately
5363s when you're faced with like an arm SWAT
5365s team because that's the reality of the
5367s situation but if you play a game like
5368s that play a map like that and they just
5370s give up immediately and you you probably
5371s won't play that again you probably want
5373s to play where it's more difficult so
5374s there are a few ways we want to remedy
5376s that
5377s um be it with a mission type
5379s um such as like a cert uh a um what's it
5382s called warrant service uh Mission type
5385s or something like that potentially
5388s um
5388s you know so maybe that would be the
5390s Avenue we take where there's like a
5392s super easy mode so to speak
5394s um things like that it would probably be
5396s the way to go I think but we'll see
5398s where we'll see where it goes okay I'm
5400s working on a map at the moment
5402s um yeah I wouldn't necessarily say that
5405s the the antagonists are evil but the
5409s moral is is very questionable and I can
5411s definitely see the player having some
5413s kind of like visceral reaction being
5414s like ah do I like yeah they're doing
5418s wrong but like maybe kind of think
5419s they're in the right so yeah like that
5422s would be a fun one to try and address
5423s for sure yeah I mean there are yeah you
5426s could even argue Ridgeline um I mean he
5428s did kill five police officers four
5430s police officers but
5432s um
5433s you know was this all in because he's
5435s you know almost having an episode and he
5438s is a dangerous person but he's not
5440s necessarily it's not necessarily his
5441s fault he's you know he's a
5445s you know it depends on what avenue you
5447s take you know you see a victim of like a
5450s society The Strand him or has he been
5451s experimented on by certain groups what
5454s exactly is it that's happened to this
5456s guy and just how [ __ ] nuts is he and
5459s and why you know so I think that there
5461s are already a few gray area levels that
5463s we have
5465s um but you know that's just because it's
5468s it's more interesting that's having this
5470s guy who's a bad guy and he's just evil
5472s um so yeah

5480s the same rough subject
5482s um will there ever be any changes to uh
5486s say what a
5488s uh what a five-man SWAT team can bring

5498s inside like transferring it to Tactical
5501s or even eliminating the amount of sort
5505s of like limiting the amount of equipment
5507s that can be brought out like there can
5508s only be one Shield or one battering ram
5510s or one
5512s uh breaking shotguns stuff like that

5516s yeah there are plans we're gonna get
5518s we're going to move the taser to the
5520s um tactical slot so that won't be a
5522s pistol anymore so you will be able to
5524s have a pistol and the taser
5526s um you won't be able to have a taser and
5527s a taser but you can have a pistol on the
5529s taser so that'll be coming in
5531s um I'm still limiting other things

5585s depends where you want to go with it so

5601s um it doesn't seem like everybody's
5603s gotten the memo on it
5605s um what is the state of power for maps
5610s like being able to turn them off and
5611s have more applicable use of nods

5619s unfortunately it's kind of the way that
5620s we've built our game
5622s um and it's kind of like a limitation of
5623s unreal foe um more than anything like if
5626s we were to set out from the very
5628s beginning and Implement like these
5631s systems as we were making the maps then
5633s it could be kind of one of those things
5635s but it's such that would that would have
5637s had to have been such a core game
5640s mechanic from the outright
5642s um and then we would have had to build
5644s everything around that for it to work
5646s it's not really one of those things that
5647s you can slide in now I'm not saying it
5650s couldn't be done
5652s um but I also don't really see the point
5654s in for instance introducing it for one
5656s level and then not having that option on
5659s on any of the other levels
5661s um
5661s it yeah it's it's more like a like a
5664s just a limitation
5665s um
5666s maybe maybe wrong too when we all go to
5669s Unreal five and we can have fully
5671s Dynamic lights and you know so forth and
5673s so on
5674s um possibly but I I think realistically
5677s speaking probably not
5679s yeah okay yeah it's some models have
5681s done some map makers have made
5683s um plus you can like go turn off the
5685s breaker you could switch off the breaker
5687s uh for um you know audio we already have
5691s in some levels we shoot our lights uh
5693s which is really really cool and uh yeah
5695s no it's definitely doable
5696s um it's also just one of those things
5698s where it's like yeah if we did it on one
5700s level we realistically should implement
5702s it on all the other levels
5704s um just for that kind of like visual
5705s language just kind of makes sense from a
5707s gameplay perspective
5709s um well that's planned enough so yeah
5712s yeah it's not really like a core
5714s gameplay mechanic that we've lent into
5717s no no so we probably won't end up doing
5719s anything like that um all right we won't
5721s also for AI um they always have to see
5724s in the dark that's just another issue we
5726s have to plan around yeah yeah all of a
5728s sudden you go like well if you're in the
5730s dark you shoot an AI you know nothing
5731s yeah it's
5733s uh it could be really cool but and we
5735s might write we might make something like
5737s that I know because we do have dark and
5738s light spots in the game but it's a lot
5740s easier to gauge that when it's all baked
5742s um when it's done with the bait what do
5744s you do you know
5746s um you would actually uh brought up a
5748s point that I was going to
5750s um modders have so that certain maps are
5753s able to be launched in day and night
5755s mode
5756s um like the map Farm used to be a night
5759s map are we going to be able to have the
5762s option to swap between day or night on
5764s certain Maps
5765s probably not no um and again it's one of
5768s those limitations where like it is
5770s definitely definitely doable but it kind
5772s of means you're then juggling two
5774s identical Maps
5775s um there are systems within unreal for
5777s uh where you you can effectively have
5780s two big scenarios but we've just got too
5783s much going on when it comes to like the
5786s other levels and everything else going
5787s on so I think I think focusing on just
5790s making a really solid the one version of
5794s the level that is like custom tailored
5797s to everything that we want it to be
5799s rather than trying to juggle two
5801s versions of it which is gonna cause more
5804s problems you know obviously light and
5807s Shadow is such a
5809s um a core sort of like not a gameplay
5811s mechanic but it's so important for the
5812s player and the AI to you know be able to
5814s see each other all the time it's hard to
5817s then juggle two versions of that and get
5819s it working right so
5821s um it like Farm started off in day and
5824s then it went tonight and then yeah it
5825s went back today that well that was more
5827s like an art art decision than anything
5829s like we would we were trying to figure
5830s out what
5832s um lighting scenario worked best for the
5834s map and it's not the first like Farm's
5836s not the only one we've done that like
5837s there's definitely been other levels
5838s where you know from an art perspective
5841s we've been like okay you know let's
5842s let's try this map in rain and see what
5844s it looks like and we've got oh yeah this
5846s looks better in rain so we've just kind
5847s of gone with that um agency was like
5849s that as well like it wasn't always kind
5851s of like
5852s um uh like like rainy and overcast it's
5855s it's starting off like very Sunset um at
5857s the very beginning
5858s um in the sale of data center like that
5860s it was it started off as like a like a
5862s like a night map and then we found
5864s bringing that kind of like early morning
5866s um you know Sun just cropping up over
5869s the hills it it gave it more of a unique
5873s feel and that's kind of what I'm trying
5875s to capture when I'm making the
5876s environments is that I want every map to
5878s really feel unique like like
5881s rather than having okay
5883s this once a day and the same ones at
5886s night and it just kind of looks like
5887s another one of the night Maps like I
5888s really want every map to look and feel
5889s unique yeah okay
5894s um all right moving swiftly along
5898s um
5899s oh another another sound question uh
5901s full soundtrack when
5904s all soundtrack when well back in the
5907s early
5908s the finals specifically no [ __ ] vinyl
5912s oh man honestly like it's it's
5916s definitely a lot of considerations to

5919s I know when I was first doing the
5921s soundtrack A lot of it was literally
5923s just rendered out into one track and
5925s then um depending on what happened it
5927s would kind of like shift to that section
5929s but of course
5931s you have the the issue where like
5933s something like the
5934s um the dealer track for example it
5936s always goes to like one of two uh
5938s different combat themes and you always
5940s like there's a very clear start and end
5943s to it but with the the newer tracks now
5945s it's all rendered out into separate
5946s layers so you can get some crazy stuff
5948s going on with that said it kind of takes
5951s a little bit more time to arrange it so
5953s still thinking about how to to best get
5955s everything into a single track for like
5958s a a very linear listening experience and
5961s get that out to you guys in soundtrack
5963s form but soundtrack when probably closer
5965s to release
5968s yeah most definitely yeah yeah something
5971s we want to do though
5972s okay so it's it's sort of like um what
5976s is it the the big Hub up around uh boom
5978s Eternal soundtrack and Mick Gordon going
5980s no you're not you're not actually
5982s assembling it right stop it it's uh well

5986s complicated because there's some more
5988s like I'm not gonna get into it no I I
5989s don't want to get sued by Becca like
5991s he's gonna come after me but uh let's

6017s release and if vinyl does come along
6018s vinyl comes along that would be really
6020s exciting

6321s will get pushed with the Swati update
6324s but we're definitely we definitely want
6325s to get some discussions going to to make
6327s sure that we have a good overview of all
6330s the things we're going to need to to
6331s Future proof voices and to make sure

6334s um when you have a command and you give
6335s a command it's not going to be like
6338s a legacy voice that plays or like chem
6340s light out for example I'm like oh yeah

6353s uh when the game is in full release when
6356s we get out of Early Access which is

6406s so probably not to that degree because
6409s there is well it depends like we could
6411s kind of have it with like just randomly
6413s those are opened or some are locked yeah
6417s like actual like blocking off an area
6421s Zero Hour like yeah like generated
6424s um stuff that they do which is really
6426s cool
6427s um we may not again because our level
6429s has backlighting it can be a bit weird
6431s to have that kind of like floating
6433s object in the middle of the scene and we
6434s generate our levels so you'd have to
6436s yeah yeah I would end up walking into
6438s barricades and stuff but there are some
6441s plans for I saw a question about this
6442s before it was about barricades
6444s um there are we're just talking a bit
6447s about it now and how maybe barricades
6449s could work and then how you circumvent
6450s barricades and how you plan for them and
6452s that would kind of be our way of adding
6455s a bit more
6456s um it's not just a locked door at that
6457s point it's a door you cannot get through
6458s without a specific thing so or you have
6460s to go around it or an AI does it that
6463s gets initially open doors closed all of
6465s a sudden there's a [ __ ] bed in front
6467s of it that kind of stuff
6469s um would be really cool and it could be
6471s something that we look into
6473s um so yes that's probably about as far
6475s as we go with like randomized stuff
6478s um yeah at least for now I I can't
6480s imagine it being very like conducive for
6483s us to like rewrite the way that we
6484s generate AI to do it live

6586s so at one stage we did have an early
6589s iteration of it I I didn't get to see it

6592s um or I don't even know if it was at a
6594s phase where it was too usable but um
6598s it's on the road it's on the like
6600s internal roadmap I I wouldn't say it's a
6603s priority but I would say it would be
6605s pretty interesting to add I know there's
6607s a mod floating around out there that
6608s uses a third-party tool

6611s but I again Never Say Never I it's it's
6614s a little vague but it'd be cool to get
6617s it added in so

6751s biggest hurdle is communicating that to
6754s the player in a first person perspective
6757s um and yeah like we've got some ideas
6759s um it's obviously not implemented or
6760s anything like that but it was it was
6762s definitely toyed with
6764s yeah the thing with um shoulder tap is
6766s that it's it's a non-verbal
6768s communication strategy that you use in
6770s like areas where you don't want to alert
6771s people but uh you know it's a video game
6774s and we have this crazy thing called
6775s Discord or you know just any kind of
6778s chatting method where yeah that isn't
6780s required so you end up with this like
6782s feature with a key that you need to
6783s assign or something that all of a sudden
6785s unless it was part of a greater scheme
6786s of like walk up the player hold down use
6789s key you can swap mags with them or
6791s whatever or check their you know if we
6794s were going to go down like a more
6795s in-depth like medical route check you
6797s know things like that
6799s um maybe but uh yeah shoulder tap or
6804s something we've talked about experiments
6805s with it may not see its way and purely
6807s because of the fact that there is this
6809s like it's very Niche but then again so
6812s is like the idea of weapon lowering and
6815s then also like being able to move
6816s quickly like the idea of like just
6818s weapon line being in the game it's quite
6819s Niche uh so um it's not necessarily
6821s something that we wouldn't do but there
6824s there is very little use for it I think
6826s a lot of the time
6828s so so it really depends but it's a good
6830s question because it'd be really cool
6831s especially it was like really diegetic
6833s like you feel like you hear the whole
6836s like like that
6837s maybe inside your screen kind of moves a
6839s little bit you know get the shake I
6840s think it'd be sweet it'd be kind of cool
6842s to see that in gameplay so it might be
6845s something we add as like an Unbound
6846s feature or maybe it's part of a greater
6848s like real like Drop it might be I I see
6850s something like that as if we do it a
6852s Post Release drop because I do think it
6854s would be really cool there's a lot of
6855s little things that would be awesome like
6856s hand signals would be really cool as
6857s well again you could be like oh we have
6859s disco your net hand signal it's like
6861s well what if someone wants to make like
6862s a little machinimo what if someone wants
6863s to like record some cool gameplay or
6865s what if someone just wants to do a
6866s non-verbal run which people have done
6868s shoulder tapping is pretty important for
6870s that I know like um uh control pairs has
6873s done that 68's done that uh you know a
6876s lot of people have done these runs
6877s Karma's done that like these runs were
6879s non-verbal and they're really cool to
6881s see would be accentuated by like a
6883s shoulder tap
6884s um and yeah that would be pretty sweet I
6887s reckon all right

6890s any possibility of
6893s um compliant civilian commands uh for
6896s instance uh wow words for example asking
6899s them to come towards you if if they have
6901s already gotten on the gotten on the
6903s ground and are compliant
6905s yeah yeah that's fine yeah that's

6908s probably bundled in with the uh SWAT AI
6911s update when that comes uh yeah

6996s radio and start the music playing
6998s um these are our forays into more
7001s content that will be rolled into the
7003s station but also as in like you can
7005s collect almost I won't say anything else
7007s uh things will be rolled into the
7009s station but also things that help expand
7012s the World building Valley was our first
7014s real
7015s growth into that you had
7018s um the notes everywhere
7020s um but we really couldn't have notes on
7022s every single level like that it doesn't
7023s make sense so Ridgeline we introduced
7025s and there's eight I think eight red Zach
7026s or is it seven
7028s um
7029s which I had seven I think seven so seven
7033s voice recordings on Ridgeline with uh
7034s Gerard talking about things and they
7036s actually Point towards the greatest
7038s story that we've written for him
7040s um that the actual content in this world
7042s we try and fit it all into the level
7043s itself
7045s um and then you go around look at
7046s magazines look at other things you might
7047s get some more information look at some
7049s graffiti you might get even some more
7050s you might be able to figure out a fair
7051s chunk of potentially some MLA storyline
7054s um just by being a little bit more
7055s attentive towards Richline and some
7056s other levels and some newspapers and
7058s magazines but the the way that we're
7060s trying to build our world building is to
7061s create that web you know it's it's less
7064s like a linear thread and it's more like
7065s this big kind of like Circle that you
7067s can kind of then go oh this is the whole
7068s world I get it now
7070s um it's like law diving really getting
7072s into that law uh and Mark's Been
7074s instrumental in that sex instrumental on
7076s that so it's um a Dan era a vo um
7079s director so
7081s yeah that's one thing that I really
7082s really love doing as well is like
7085s one of the more fun things about playing
7088s the games obviously is not just the core
7090s gameplay mechanics of reading houses and
7092s stuff like that but it's that
7093s investigation of the scenes and you know
7096s not everything that's happening in the
7098s world is spelled out to you like it's up
7100s to the player to to look and find and
7102s explore and piece it all together
7104s themselves so we're definitely leaning
7106s into a lot more of that storytelling
7107s within the environments within the audio
7110s um with basically whatever we can do to
7112s to make it feel like Las Vegas is a real
7115s lived in place and to take it just past
7117s the levels and really take it into the
7120s broader sense of the the city itself for
7123s sure yeah and that's like that's it's
7126s critical for us to do that and we got
7128s some more like a lot of the new levels
7130s of release need more World building
7132s content and that's the plan for us is to
7133s kind of roll that out in a future update
7137s um and keep it going like that ideally
7139s our updates are a little bit tighter
7140s together as well but with like not as
7141s much content so we'll kind of get keep
7143s people paying attention instead of like
7146s two six months apart updates
7149s um you know it's yeah so there's a few
7152s things that we're doing there which is
7153s it's going to be cool I think it's gonna
7154s be really exciting to have all this kind
7155s of stuff
7157s um I don't have anything to add to that
7159s I was just going to say um going off of
7161s Sterling's comment uh I know some of the
7163s sound too we we actually we're still
7165s fleshing it out for some of the levels
7166s like importer and hospitals so
7169s um that's also being
7171s kind of
7173s just just basically just layering stuff
7175s up making it more immersive when you
7177s walk into the level so we are still
7178s adding sound to existing levels as well
7181s yeah
7183s um I'll touch on two more things and
7185s then I'll be done which is just a a
7187s video that someone posted about which is
7188s really cool one I think it was on the
7189s Reddit it probably was around here as
7191s well
7192s um there was some suggestions to improve
7194s AI you know some of the stuff like oh
7195s they should like civilians stay behind
7197s cover suspects should say behind cover
7199s um things like that we will continue to
7201s look at and work on um sometimes we've
7204s tried obviously a lot of these things we
7205s have actually tried and then we've gone
7206s well that won't work for now because
7208s maybe it takes too long for them to exit
7209s cover and you can just walk up to them
7211s and pop them in the head and then it
7212s necessitates you know a new system to
7216s help them aim at you while you're
7217s getting closer and or start shooting at
7219s you beforehand that we don't have the
7220s time to implement there are a few things
7222s that we will be looking at the World
7223s building that early mentioned is a big
7225s one
7225s um just to make people seem more alive
7227s but a lot of the stuff you won't see you
7229s know you don't like the combat stuff's
7230s pretty critical
7232s um and a lot of it you wouldn't see
7233s otherwise so
7235s we'll keep working on this kind of stuff
7237s um and
7239s uh hopefully you guys enjoy it and um
7241s when modding you know when the SDK is
7244s finished and after we've interfaced with
7246s a lot of modders it'll be really cool to
7248s see what people do with the systems that
7250s have been written
7251s um because it's just so robust and it
7253s can allow for a lot of things and again
7255s it's the whole thing of the community
7256s sometimes will do things better than you
7258s can because they've got the the salt for
7260s their self focus their sole purpose is
7262s to just like I need to I want to make
7263s this AI like a specific guy in the
7266s specific level just like incredibly
7268s unpredictable but you do this one chain
7271s of events and then you can you know get
7273s him to surrender like [ __ ] like that is
7274s is totally doable with the system and
7276s really really cool to see
7278s um so yeah there's a lot of really sweet
7280s stuff that we've got planned and
7281s hopefully we get around to it you know
7282s the idea is to make this is like meant
7284s to be the ultimate shooter the ultimate
7286s tactical shooter and really really drive
7289s that home for players I think
7292s um and there are a lot of great tackle
7293s Shooters out there you know there are a
7295s lot and a lot coming up which are really
7296s cool too I'm excited for a lot of them
7298s um so yeah
7301s um I see a question about uh sniper
7303s teams are we gonna Implement that stuff
7306s um
7307s a similar software where you just like
7310s control a sniper and
7313s we might take control of them we may but
7315s we also may not it may be something that
7317s happens Zoom little ladders and drones
7319s might be something that we add in an
7320s expansion pack or a DLC yeah
7322s um okay and again every time you drop an
7325s expansion it's more tools for modding as
7326s well which was cool so that could also
7328s be an experiment for us yeah
