s | we uh we should be live |
---|---|
s | uh hello everybody and welcome to uh |
s | Jesus second already uh Welcome to our |
s | second developer AMA uh we got |
s | we got our uh we got our staff here and |
s | we actually haven't have a plus one |
s | which is always nice to have uh first |
s | off we have uh Sterling director and CEO |
s | avoid |
s | yo what's up I guess I'd like to |
s | introduce myself and like talk about |
s | what I do |
s | believe it I do okay well I'm uh yeah |
s | that's fine that's um I'm in charge of |
s | the day-to-day operations at void and I |
s | founded the company with |
s | um a couple other guys |
s | um uh Jules SEO and ryro L CTO uh a |
s | while ago and uh we uh yeah I'm you know |
s | the game director as well so in charge |
s | of the vision for the game and stuff |
s | like that working very closely with the |
s | other guys in this Channel and a lot of |
s | other guys in the uh who aren't in this |
s | Channel and um really it's all them it's |
s | all the other guys who make this a lot |
s | of the next you know make reading what |
s | ready night is so uh I really just kind |
s | of sit there and watch everyone do their |
s | their jobs so |
s | everyone else does all the really really |
s | really good work just suppose |
s | all right that's it |
s | all right |
s | um next up next up we got the we got |
s | Steve uh another one of uh one of the |
s | programmers at uh at void and somebody |
s | who is |
s | been an immense help trying to get all |
s | this stuff uh for community events |
s | answers to you guys all that kind of |
s | stuff sorted out |
s | yeah hey old uh Steve or Shady cuts um |
s | so I actually am not a game programmer |
s | originally I did um corporate |
s | development for quite a while and um I |
s | know a few of the people who founded |
s | void and have been asked to come on and |
s | sort of help grow the company and put |
s | some process in and the likes um so |
s | I'm the boring mean one I guess you |
s | could say |
s | um so I've been here what six eight |
s | months now it's been really fun |
s | um when my wife comes in and sees me |
s | playing computer games I tell her I'm |
s | working and she says the war Fortress is |
s | not ready or not I say I'm researching |
s | so |
s | um |
s | there is one benefit there's plenty |
s | benefits it's good I love it here |
s | all right great |
s | next up we have somebody who is uh |
s | who should be recognizable to anybody |
s | who has looked at the game or uh |
s | attended our our first AMA in the public |
s | Discord uh Mark uh the lead environment |
s | artist |
s | hello everyone uh yeah not good to be |
s | back I really enjoy doing these amas and |
s | getting to talk with everyone |
s | um it's really good to sort of like uh |
s | have these kind of brainstorming |
s | sessions and allows us to event a little |
s | bit as well and you know have that kind |
s | of relationship with you guys |
s | um so yeah no like uh as as mentioned |
s | I'm um my sort of day-to-day job is to |
s | look after the environments not only |
s | just leading the team |
s | um but also one of the core content |
s | creators from the environments |
s | themselves I tend to |
s | um you know take a level from block out |
s | stage all the way to final whilst also |
s | managing my team who are working on |
s | other levels I also |
s | um sort of managed the the going-ons |
s | with um the Outsource when it comes to |
s | asset creation |
s | um for the levels specifically and yeah |
s | overall just kind of making sure the |
s | game looks as good as it can and |
s | hopefully running smoothly as well |
s | all right excellent |
s | uh next we have uh Zach uh composer |
s | sound director and uh author of fire |
s | tracks for uh ready or not |
s | it's doing too much honor I know what's |
s | going on everyone uh first of all I |
s | gotta say thanks to everyone for |
s | dropping in like this is this is crazy |
s | seeing over 200 people in here right now |
s | but uh yeah I'm sound leading composer |
s | of the void and believe it or not |
s | um this is actually my first major |
s | project I did some small stuff before uh |
s | mainly with with music so going on to |
s | the sound side is was pretty scary but |
s | again I work with probably the best team |
s | in the world when it comes to just |
s | collaboration and getting things done so |
s | I can't be more thankful for that |
s | um so day to day for me basically going |
s | in getting assets |
s | um getting the technical sound side done |
s | um and just also making sure that the |
s | music is implemented and and making sure |
s | it's all flowing together level the |
s | level and moment to moment and uh of |
s | course it's also a learning process too |
s | just making sure that I'm listening to |
s | feedback and seeing okay so what do |
s | players like what are they not like and |
s | then from there just kind of |
s | making sure the sound gets better and |
s | better and better and and that's that's |
s | pretty much it |
s | excellent |
s | and then we have uh we have the we have |
s | uh Mr Ollie somebody who is uh very much |
s | known to uh the NDA members as he likes |
s | to pop in from from time to time and yet |
s | again in another uh another avoids very |
s | capable team uh program members |
s | uh hey I'm ali um this is my first time |
s | as well |
s | um |
s | among the programmers on the team I |
s | um do a lot of things from AI to |
s | gameplay and um also networking |
s | um so for Co-Op and stuff like that |
s | uh yeah |
s | sure short and sweet isn't bad I was |
s | gonna say yeah Ali like he's being way |
s | too humble right now he like even if the |
s | sound team needs any help Ali is like he |
s | jumps in suggestions yeah like he's he's |
s | all over the map he's crazy so |
s | all righty he's a machine absolute |
s | machine |
s | and then uh last but very much not least |
s | we actually have a plus one from our uh |
s | original itinerary we have a uh Sam one |
s | of the one of the members of the art |
s | teams and probably |
s | uh the producer of some of my favorite |
s | art in the form of all the uh all the |
s | carcosa stuff |
s | hello I'm Sam |
s | um I guess I'm currently in a tornado |
s | right now |
s | um I will lead two togethers |
s | and we do a lot of the concept art |
s | I do it for characters |
s | in some environments I do |
s | some graphic design |
s | in some UI |
s | so |
s | yeah just anything 2D |
s | pretty much my field |
s | okay |
s | so Let's uh let's get this show on the |
s | road with uh starting from right from |
s | the top of the questions Channel |
s | um very very common question ever since |
s | uh the first stages of the alpha and |
s | since |
s | honestly a lot of people's first touch |
s | into Ready or Not what is the current |
s | state of um the PVP being uh being |
s | relaunched into the current version of |
s | the game |
s | no so we haven't really touched the PVP |
s | too much we've played around with it |
s | occasionally for some for fun |
s | there's a few different modes |
s | um that we've played with we actually we |
s | have this mode that we've you know |
s | casually some of the guys will jump in |
s | it uh where it's just literally like a |
s | 1v1 oh sorry it's like a free-for-all |
s | kind of thing you just spawn in you just |
s | shoot each other and that kind of gave |
s | us the idea that it's very likely PVP |
s | will be a lot of fun if we get it right |
s | the biggest trick is make sure that it's |
s | an interesting and kind of engaging game |
s | mode something that you can play and not |
s | feel like the old PVP we had kind of |
s | felt like it had no purpose it was kind |
s | of flat a bit and and it was probably |
s | over designed as well and it didn't |
s | really fit like a lot of the levels |
s | didn't really fit the the top the style |
s | of gameplay that our our game was going |
s | for |
s | um so going forwards I think with a PVP |
s | I'm not we're not I'm not going to like |
s | talk about what that could look like |
s | just because it's quite |
s | um |
s | uh you know I'm not if I say one thing |
s | it might end up being something entirely |
s | different but I can say that we have a |
s | few different ways that we're going to |
s | implement PVP |
s | um and one that will come to ready or |
s | not |
s | um at some point and I'm probably not |
s | too far down the track would be |
s | um yeah part of the new station that |
s | we're working on so uh you know right |
s | now we have players who are going in to |
s | the kill house and they're running |
s | around shooting at each other like just |
s | kind of kill each other respawn run down |
s | do it again do it again do it again |
s | um with a new State uh with the new |
s | station which actually I think that may |
s | have just been a bit of information that |
s | now I know about |
s | um with the new the new Lobby level uh |
s | there's going to be a larger kill house |
s | area large killer Zone and there'll be a |
s | dedicated area where you can actually |
s | just you know decide to enter into PvP |
s | with your friends and that'll be our |
s | first like taste because that's |
s | currently what we can do in Ready or Not |
s | Like that's what we've tried and it's a |
s | lot of fun it's really cool like having |
s | a firefight with someone through a wall |
s | you know |
s | um and actually we haven't tried it I |
s | think with like the new Ricochet or the |
s | spawning stuff but um even before all |
s | that it was really sweet having like a |
s | big gun fight and you're like kind of |
s | trying to guess what the other dude is |
s | through the wall |
s | um you can hear them walking and stuff |
s | and you're trying to like Ping him |
s | through that or like breaching a door |
s | throwing Grenada and then just kind of |
s | trying to find the enemy |
s | um it felt really really cool so that'll |
s | be our first foray into it um almost as |
s | like a staged thing this time just like |
s | kind of staging it out going well how do |
s | people like just like a very basic PVP |
s | where they can kind of play around |
s | um in an environment and and whatnot |
s | the station itself the actual the arena |
s | area the the shoot house area |
s | we'll have a bit more of a |
s | um there'll be a bit more to it |
s | but uh yeah so |
s | so expect expect something I would say |
s | definitely this year |
s | and then as for a larger PVP larger |
s | scale PVP which is probably what people |
s | thinking of you know uh |
s | um |
s | we |
s | we're just still kind of talking about |
s | it thinking about it it's not really in |
s | the Forefront of our minds honestly it's |
s | mostly everything's serving Cooperative |
s | in single player right now |
s | um but it will get into that stage where |
s | we're like well you know we could |
s | probably start branching at it to a bit |
s | of PVP because it is it could be a lot |
s | of fun you know |
s | um to kind of have something a bit more |
s | CQB oriented unique |
s | um as soon as we get it right you know |
s | we want to get it right |
s | and on that from a development point of |
s | view we've been making improvements to |
s | the builds and the likes um and one of |
s | those improvements has been to um |
s | generate dedicated Service as a proof of |
s | concept so going back to grunters |
s | timelines um that's something that we do |
s | plan to do from a technical point of |
s | view |
s | yeah |
s | I can actually Branch off into I guess |
s | the voice chat part of this because I |
s | know voice chat is obviously super |
s | important in PvP and uh something that I |
s | like I know that the sound team really |
s | wants to explore is actually having the |
s | voice processed by fmod instead of it |
s | just being through Unreal Engine like |
s | the default stuff so that means that all |
s | the environmental effects that you hear |
s | in the game that's going to be pushed |
s | onto the voice so like your friend's |
s | buying a wall it's going to sell muffled |
s | or they're in like a Reverb tunnel and |
s | it's going to be you know reverberating |
s | through that tunnel so just |
s | um kind of these hand in hand |
s | improvements that'll help push the PVP |
s | immersion along a little bit further |
s | yeah |
s | awesome thanks guys alrighty |
s | um |
s | and then to the second most uh |
s | ask question at least by some of the |
s | people over here you know who the hell |
s | you are |
s | um but when is the uh full HRT rework |
s | coming |
s | so we've done a fair bit of it we still |
s | have to scan the pants and the shirt we |
s | initially were we're working with a team |
s | um I think there are some questions |
s | asked us before the whole |
s | um the war in Ukraine I think |
s | but during that time we were already |
s | working on a scan and then that team |
s | that we were working with |
s | um we actually have not been able to |
s | communicate with them since so uh we |
s | tried to but nothing's come through so |
s | we've had to start that again |
s | um about to start the close again but uh |
s | Mary G Gerard uh has been working really |
s | hard on he's been working on the a lot |
s | of the hard service elements you know |
s | we've got the gpn video teams |
s | um already done which is going to be |
s | really cool uh and a few other elements |
s | as well |
s | um some of the holsters and whatnot and |
s | we've got a a really talented artist a |
s | technical artist actually who has his |
s | own scan studio so he's been going |
s | through getting ready and scanning all |
s | the gear |
s | um and we've just been making sure that |
s | it's kind of authentic it's a lot more |
s | lined up |
s | um with the you know what you'd actually |
s | expect these guys to wear |
s | uh and and that shouldn't be too far off |
s | honestly that's our that's literally the |
s | first thing we're doing we're getting |
s | this out of the way now uh and it |
s | actually branches out into a few other |
s | things we're actually very lucky that |
s | we're doing it now in this fashion |
s | because there are a few other things |
s | that we are |
s | uh looking into and hopefully we're |
s | going to be executing relatively soon |
s | um which will make the HRT uniform a |
s | little bit more I think exciting to |
s | actually have access to you know being |
s | able to pick say different gloves or |
s | different |
s | um or being able to mix and match some |
s | of the clothing options |
s | um things like that would be really cool |
s | it's not going to be too excessive but |
s | you know that that's something that we |
s | would have if we did it previously it |
s | would have probably been a massive |
s | problem for us |
s | but it's coming soon I know that |
s | everyone's waiting very patiently for it |
s | um at least I I think it sounds like |
s | maybe not uh and that's fine too we've |
s | been saying you guys look at that for a |
s | long time |
s | um and the current one isn't really up |
s | to scratch so yeah |
s | well |
s | as there to uh they're too impatient |
s | they just uh won't let anybody live any |
s | any uh anything down so when you say |
s | soon so you better mean soon |
s | well so yeah soon in 20 years no I mean |
s | like I get it it's it's like it's it'll |
s | be the first character thing that comes |
s | out that's not like you know I mean like |
s | as far as police and playable characters |
s | go it'd be the first thing that people |
s | get access to we're not really gonna do |
s | other things first that would be a |
s | massive you know kick in the face I |
s | think all right um and I guess a |
s | tangential question that is related to |
s | that is Will |
s | um |
s | will officer skins always be one and |
s | done skins or will there ever be any |
s | opportunity to modify you know where you |
s | have your patches where you have your |
s | um kit or hell even uh swappable patches |
s | coming back or being a thing |
s | yeah so I don't want to uh like Nikita |
s | the tame in this sense no offense |
s | offense of the king but uh I would say |
s | that we have some plans for it which is |
s | essentially like you know um patches |
s | will |
s | it's we're looking at patches coming |
s | back as well as a few other things too |
s | so |
s | in our kind of exploration into this we |
s | don't want to necessarily go down the |
s | route of like crazy |
s | unrealistic looking characters you know |
s | nothing too crazy in that sense like |
s | nothing too outlandish is probably the |
s | right word for it but we want to look |
s | into something where you can have that |
s | personalization we can kind of give |
s | players a little bit more incentive to |
s | maybe get higher scores get better |
s | scores or even perform certain tasks |
s | um so patches will be an element to that |
s | how they work we don't really know yet |
s | we've talked about it a lot the way yeah |
s | obviously the way it works is you talk |
s | about it then you explore then you |
s | execute and then you you know reevaluate |
s | because sometimes you can't actually |
s | achieve things or it's too expensive you |
s | know all of a sudden you've cut down |
s | your frame rate of [ __ ] though because |
s | you've got to add another song yeah a |
s | lot of iteration exactly it's a lot of |
s | iteration that happens with everything |
s | you know happens with AI for example |
s | um so you know it's yeah pretty common |
s | but one thing we're looking into now is |
s | yeah being able to have different kinds |
s | of patches |
s | we may not see the kind of like internet |
s | URL link patches just because of the |
s | there's a lot of like concerns on our |
s | end of that I'll be the disaster yeah it |
s | could be it could be quite risky but um |
s | we will probably be going along the |
s | route of you know a lot of different |
s | patches that players will have access to |
s | based on what they've um performed in |
s | the game you know like things that they |
s | might be able to achieve |
s | um and then show that off you know |
s | they're really cool patches we don't |
s | just want to like let's say us let's say |
s | you get S rank on meth on like all of |
s | every single meth level so you like kind |
s | of aced it |
s | um we would just give you a patch I said |
s | method that would be lame but having |
s | like really well designed nice |
s | embroidered looking patches and then |
s | being able to have it players get access |
s | to that and then choose where on their |
s | unless shoulder right shoulder head you |
s | know like a helmet that could be really |
s | cool for us I think and really exciting |
s | if we were to go down that route |
s | um and there's a few other things as |
s | well in that regard |
s | um just tattoos and things like that |
s | other personalization options uh that |
s | we're looking into |
s | and ideally we get we're looking into |
s | getting that done relatively soon but uh |
s | it is more of an aesthetic thing but I |
s | think that's a good way of like we've |
s | talked about this a lot and a lot of |
s | people on the team you know they they |
s | feel and I know a lot of community |
s | approach feels the same way it's like |
s | you need that hook kind of like but like |
s | how do we keep how do you keep people |
s | like enjoying the game and engage in the |
s | game sometimes just finishing a mission |
s | nowadays isn't really enough sometimes |
s | it's good to have other things the idea |
s | to like have you know your guide showing |
s | off like maybe some specific gloves you |
s | have and tattoo you have like with these |
s | rolled sleeves and you have like some |
s | patches from some very specific tasks |
s | you perform could be really cool so |
s | that's what we're looking at that's our |
s | goal it's um so it's not necessarily |
s | something we're going like we need to |
s | just see how that feels first how it |
s | goes because it could be |
s | you know could be a lot so sort of like |
s | a a trophy system where if you achieve |
s | this feat you get you know a patch you |
s | get some gloves you get you know some |
s | something small but something enough to |
s | make you stand out to you know other |
s | players |
s | pretty much yeah look I mean our game is |
s | honestly mostly first I mean it is a |
s | first person game so having you know |
s | most of your screen covered with these |
s | custom things is cool the patches being |
s | the only thing that you won't see |
s | necessarily but yeah that would be one |
s | thing that we might be looking into |
s | um and just seeing how that feels |
s | alrighty |
s | yeah lots of Juicy information for that |
s | one question uh some people be quite |
s | happy |
s | um |
s | all right scrolling down our uh |
s | what's going on a question chat uh |
s | there's another question coming from uh |
s | one of our uh one one of our map modders |
s | who's frankly |
s | doing badass work |
s | um |
s | is there a uh rough ETA on a full good |
s | and proper NBA sorry wow NBA SDK |
s | that's the word that's the letter |
s | combination I'm looking for luckily no |
s | more no more NDA luckily yeah |
s | I I can answer that one um so we've been |
s | making a lot of improvements to the game |
s | itself around uh modding support |
s | internally |
s | um so one thing that we'll be shipping |
s | early this year is the safe mode |
s | um and loading just really or not picks |
s | to get around some of the loading issues |
s | and help help people with it and then |
s | after that we'll be looking at building |
s | um the SDK with help from the community |
s | on on methods and and functional |
s | functionality that I'd like to see uh in |
s | this SDK because one of the challenges |
s | we ran into is uh unreal pack support |
s | doesn't allow you to load |
s | overwrite content at runtime so we |
s | really need to extend our our mod |
s | loading to do it at runtime so you know |
s | find all maps and in the back file find |
s | all weapons and the pec file and extend |
s | our internal data tables |
s | so hopefully I'll be taking on that um |
s | this you know quarter I guess so um I'll |
s | be looking for some support from the |
s | community there |
s | but as with a date when we'll have a |
s | fully fledged SDK uh soon I guess can't |
s | say win just but I will be working on it |
s | but for us it's something that we oh |
s | guys you go ahead you're good it's all |
s | good oh no no after you I insist we |
s | um we just added uh kind of simplified |
s | uh sound modding support so this is very |
s | this is it's pretty Bare Bones but with |
s | that being said |
s | um it lets you place custom sounds and |
s | put in custom music |
s | um there's a few kavits or caveats I I |
s | don't know how to say the word but I've |
s | got a I've got a um a dock that I'm |
s | typing up right now and I'm gonna |
s | include it in The Unofficial modding |
s | guide and that's that's a Quantum nuke |
s | project and he's actually a newer member |
s | of our team and he's awesome dude you |
s | gotta gotta ask that guy more questions |
s | because he like he knows all this stuff |
s | just off the top of his head but um yeah |
s | ideally in the future we're going to |
s | have much more in-depth support so |
s | that's like you don't need fmod right |
s | now to mod but in the future we want to |
s | have it so that you can crack openfmod |
s | and have all these crazy parameter |
s | changes and just do stuff how you |
s | envision it rather than with this kind |
s | of restrictive way that we have now |
s | yeah he's watching us right now by the |
s | way I see him yeah just gonna shout out |
s | to Quantum nuke who was a modder whom we |
s | hired as well uh late last year mid to |
s | late last year doing a great job this is |
s | the king did I work anything |
s | okay |
s | okay |
s | so we'll we'll be getting uh getting |
s | those modders all tools we need we've uh |
s | thanks to you guys and uh both the |
s | modders I've been able to uh kind of |
s | pass off exactly what they're looking |
s | for and get you know bits and pieces to |
s | help them do what they need but having a |
s | good and proper SDK will be |
s | a massive Boon to everyone |
s | yeah so if we can get a few of the key |
s | modders who are Keen to help and um I |
s | guess um help with the direction of that |
s | sort of stuff by all means let's do that |
s | they're they're chopping at the bit I |
s | can tell you that much so we've got 239 |
s | of them 238 I must have offended someone |
s | 37 look it's gone down |
s | um |
s | that's |
s | um that is a big thing for us I just |
s | wanted to tack on there it's like you |
s | know the very robust mod support is |
s | going to be really cool I even saw that |
s | I saw this recently I think it was a |
s | couple days ago someone dropped that uh |
s | Ragdoll return ragdoll's return or |
s | something um which looks really cool |
s | things like that |
s | being able to introduce mods like that |
s | you know I really really like seeing |
s | that kind of stuff I think there's |
s | another mod out there |
s | um I saw I think it was gunfighter mod |
s | which was even just moving around the uh |
s | it wasn't just before the view model |
s | there's a almost a total gameplay of a |
s | whole um from someone who you know |
s | they're like oh I like it like this I |
s | like this specific kind of gameplay |
s | um those kinds of mods are really cool |
s | because |
s | you want to be able to have that access |
s | you know from the community if someone |
s | says oh I really like I like reading I |
s | like how it feels but I really want to |
s | be able to get in more firefights or |
s | even something as simple as I don't |
s | really like what the view model is on |
s | this screen having that kind of depth in |
s | customization model and modification is |
s | is really cool and it brings me back to |
s | the old days of like modding where you |
s | really could change a lot of things you |
s | could play around with a lot of |
s | different variables and get kind of |
s | Cadier and experience if you really |
s | wanted to and you start seeing these mod |
s | packs kind of arise as a result which is |
s | super super cool you know wait we're |
s | making reading on how we want to see |
s | ready or not if there's really someone |
s | out there who's like yeah I want to see |
s | this I want to see that you know like oh |
s | you know we release the SDK and |
s | someone's like oh yeah they've still got |
s | the animations for sprinting let's say |
s | and um you know oh they've still got all |
s | the code it's just commented out boom |
s | I'm going to write that I'm going to add |
s | this in or it's a I mean I don't think |
s | they're going to give source source |
s | source code access I'm not Taylor sure |
s | but those kinds of things |
s | um I think it's really cool to see and |
s | and I don't honestly that's definitely |
s | where like the end point for modding in |
s | my opinion that'd be really cool for |
s | where it goes but even as a baseline |
s | just maps and weapons and um even like |
s | yeah gameplay overhauls are really cool |
s | and ai2 is considering how our AI is now |
s | written uh Ali's made it very easy for |
s | people to kind of write new behaviors |
s | yeah it's all in assets and uh |
s | blueprints that can be extended |
s | um yeah yeah yeah I just need to find a |
s | way to um |
s | like um |
s | a modest to like modify that |
s | um so yeah |
s | yeah yeah like we're rolling back to |
s | something you had said earlier uh |
s | designing a game that you want to see |
s | rather than what you think the community |
s | wants to see really is at least in my |
s | opinion the way to do it because that |
s | way you |
s | create a a more robust more cohesive |
s | sort of experience rather than kind of |
s | bouncing around all over the place |
s | yeah I mean it's it's good to have a |
s | finger in the wind with the community |
s | it's like how things are going you |
s | really sounding like ah sucks you gotta |
s | [ __ ] all right that's not a good idea |
s | then we need to go back to the drawing |
s | board but uh when it comes to yeah I |
s | mean look I wanted to make |
s | um this game since I was like yeah 16. |
s | and we have this we're so um I mean |
s | we're all very grateful for this |
s | opportunity but I'll speak for myself |
s | I'm very very grateful for this |
s | opportunity to even be able to do this |
s | that um you know I don't necessarily |
s | want to capitulate and be like oh well |
s | we're just going to make what everyone |
s | wants to see because it's impossible you |
s | can't please that many people it's not |
s | feasible so yeah you make the game you |
s | want to make but giving people the tools |
s | to make what they want to make is is |
s | it's second to none if anything that's |
s | that's like that's even it's even better |
s | you know some people will be better devs |
s | than you know like from what their goals |
s | are like if your goal is to make like |
s | uh a zombie mod let's say you may be a |
s | better |
s | creator of that like you may be a better |
s | developer in that sphere than we would |
s | be if we try to do it like that is |
s | absolutely entirely possible and that's |
s | why modding is so cool and what's why |
s | that's why we hire a lot of modders |
s | because there is that |
s | um they're so passionate and they're |
s | also really really talented and you go |
s | well if you're interested love to |
s | collaborate more together because that |
s | is just like it's the icing on the cake |
s | that's like where the it's the it's the |
s | creative juncture that you want to |
s | achieve |
s | um with your community I think and you |
s | can't have that without modding so yeah |
s | no that's um yeah that's the end of my |
s | answer to that yeah but I hate to say |
s | crafting and ready or not stealing yeah |
s | absolutely you're going to start |
s | crafting on shifts |
s | um |
s | loot cabinets and crashes |
s | yeah |
s | to kind of build on top of that as well |
s | sorry for interrupting guys um just to |
s | kind of build on what stolen was saying |
s | as well I think we're in a like a really |
s | interesting sort of position as well as |
s | developers where you know just as a |
s | working example like some of the past |
s | games I've worked on and stuff like that |
s | you don't have this kind of feedback |
s | with the people playing your game until |
s | it goes out the door and then by that |
s | point it's really too late to kind of do |
s | anything but what an awesome opportunity |
s | is to be not only making it in like but |
s | getting real-time feedback as we're |
s | doing it so it's not even a case of like |
s | like it's with of course we're making |
s | the game we want to make but it's it's |
s | great to be learning as well as we're |
s | making this game and I'm sure like like |
s | you know the community can kind of see |
s | this as we're going as well like the |
s | game's only getting better and I think a |
s | lot of that is to do with with the |
s | feedback that we're getting almost on a |
s | daily basis from the the community |
s | actively playing it and we're reading it |
s | we're seeing it with you know we're |
s | we're adapting to make the best game we |
s | can effectively |
s | yeah for sure a thousand percent and |
s | watch it's it's like watching uh |
s | playthroughs of people playing the game |
s | too where it's kind of like you know |
s | you're working on something actively but |
s | there's someone playing the last |
s | iteration and uh like I could speak on |
s | the sound side just like you know |
s | there's like a bug that you missed and |
s | some maybe they didn't even notice it |
s | but you just noticed as they're playing |
s | it you catch something you're like oh |
s | [ __ ] I gotta go in and like fix that up |
s | so like that's we're thankful because |
s | you guys are catching all this stuff and |
s | you're also giving us the feedback ASAP |
s | like this works this doesn't work uh so |
s | yeah I'm kind of echoing what everyone |
s | else is saying right now but I |
s | completely agree |
s | awesome can I just add uh one other |
s | thing on the modding by the way Kaminsky |
s | oh you're good |
s | yeah so I'm just saying quite a lot of |
s | questions and coming around uh mod IO |
s | and Steam Workshop and the likes |
s | um so my IO is what we're using in the |
s | UI right now |
s | um we don't have any plans to actively |
s | not use anything else |
s | um however before we go and look into |
s | that I want to make sure we want to make |
s | sure that really or not supports mods in |
s | the way that we've already talked about |
s | so once we get the SDK worked out then |
s | we can go back and revisit the other mod |
s | platforms available but by no means are |
s | we saying no to anything or yes to |
s | anything |
s | yeah we're not locked in anything either |
s | so |
s | I guess I guess since you brought it up |
s | then |
s | um |
s | uh the uh question that came up a lot at |
s | the Advent of mod IO is why one over the |
s | other especially if you were planning on |
s | doing Workshop uh from the get-go or at |
s | least saying these are going to be doing |
s | workshops and they get go |
s | uh so the mod I know guys are from |
s | Australia |
s | that's probably it I guess |
s | the goal with Modio initially was to so |
s | if someone went out of their way and |
s | made a |
s | I don't know like a Grand Theft Auto |
s | style Ready or Not mod with careers and |
s | money generating and whatnot |
s | um then with Modio they can monetize |
s | that mod and and we can it's a way we |
s | can support the community with their |
s | mods especially for people who take a |
s | lot of time |
s | um to do this sort of stuff and then |
s | they can share that money with the |
s | assets or the people that I've worked |
s | with to make that mod uh successful |
s | which is something you can't necessarily |
s | do in other areas so we were really |
s | looking at that |
s | um |
s | yeah I mean to be fair if you think |
s | about modding from like holistically |
s | it's just loading Peg files into the |
s | game we need an easy way to do that |
s | um so we've used Modio I think that |
s | decision was actually made before I |
s | joined |
s | um for now |
s | well this is just really convenient it's |
s | just right in the game right in the menu |
s | just press a button and uh just |
s | automatic downloads for sure and the big |
s | thing for us like to pick you up but to |
s | piggyback off what Steve said having |
s | um the ability for modders to monetize |
s | the stuff it's not like the Skyrim style |
s | like oh yeah now you must pay like we |
s | can basically go oh well you can let's |
s | take a like a Kofi you guys if anyone as |
s | that is it's like the the kind of like |
s | you buy something oh you donate some |
s | money yeah it's a good donations like |
s | you can do that you can do it in a lot |
s | of other ways you can actually run |
s | um campaigns too to be like oh well we |
s | got this competition like come and run |
s | this come do this come do this and it's |
s | all within the the monitor kind of like |
s | system itself |
s | um and that was really exciting to us |
s | when we jumped in uh and yeah we talked |
s | to our workshop and um again it's not |
s | off the it's really not off the table |
s | but for us Workshop has always been |
s | something we're like well we need to |
s | finish what really not is let's say |
s | hypothetically just for you guys |
s | um |
s | hypothetically we released Steam |
s | Workshop |
s | um |
s | instead of what I like now |
s | and then what you've done is like and |
s | that was when we released that the AI |
s | was the different an entirely different |
s | system |
s | um I feel like steam worship has a very |
s | large reach everyone's going oh sweet |
s | load in downloads the mods let's go |
s | let's get this let's get that |
s | um |
s | what we noticed was when we released a |
s | new update actually a lot of mods ended |
s | up breaking the AI system the new one |
s | that we had because it's almost a |
s | completely different system a lot of the |
s | randomized values that we have in the AI |
s | data table aren't used anymore |
s | um for example a lot of them are now |
s | because the AI score stuff we can get |
s | into that later if there's any questions |
s | about the AI but |
s | um it's a different system and I'm not |
s | saying this is why we did it but it is a |
s | reason why Steam Workshop would have |
s | been introduced later is because or will |
s | be interested is because the |
s | um there's a I feel like there's a very |
s | large ridge with that with Steam |
s | Workshop and you could potentially be |
s | breaking even more stuff um just that we |
s | wouldn't even be aware of and we really |
s | want to make sure that there is a solid |
s | SDK |
s | um at the end of our release and our |
s | plan was always to be like okay well the |
s | workshop we're going to release that uh |
s | you know with a big SDK and make sure |
s | it's like finished so we're not like |
s | updating the core gameplay framework |
s | um obviously releasing model either way |
s | for us it's like well you know we're |
s | early you know we're still working on |
s | the game so let's experiment with some |
s | alternative routes and um they've been |
s | you know it's been very easy to work |
s | with them uh and and can't work with the |
s | systems and we've seen a few other games |
s | that have used their systems that have |
s | done well and obviously the community's |
s | highlighted a few games that have used |
s | the systems and not done well |
s | um but that doesn't necessarily you know |
s | correlation doesn't equal causation |
s | noise so who's who's to say sometimes as |
s | well as the other way around sometimes |
s | it's not necessarily just because the |
s | model is successful it's just because |
s | the game has got the certain mod |
s | framework that it has |
s | um so we're just experimenting guys you |
s | know like it's just kind of what we're |
s | doing right now but it's like Steve said |
s | we're not locked into anything |
s | um we want to get the SDK out and we |
s | want to finish and not touch ready and |
s | not base we really don't want to touch |
s | reading our base first and then we can |
s | kind of look at how everything feels |
s | because that's the big thing for us |
s | right is getting into that final stage |
s | and locking that in then you know |
s | because we're always we're very flexible |
s | right now everything's kind of you know |
s | it's it's it's super flexible right now |
s | and I guess uh this uh talking about all |
s | the technical stuff makes it excellent |
s | Headway to uh quite a few questions that |
s | we're we're getting in the question chat |
s | as far as |
s | um like uh more comprehensive options |
s | for Server hosting uh server browser |
s | more options for |
s | um like a server hosts stuff like that |
s | are we going to be seeing any more of |
s | that |
s | um either before 1.0 or after 1.0 |
s | yes |
s | yes |
s | like I said earlier um with the changes |
s | to the build we have been |
s | um working on building a dedicated |
s | server and the likes and getting that |
s | into our pipeline so yes it will be the |
s | ability to host service yourself at |
s | least right now that's the plan unless |
s | something goes drastically wrong I don't |
s | have a time frame for it it was actually |
s | a pet project of someone internally um |
s | in the spare time to go and figure out |
s | how to do all this that we've got some |
s | stuff lying around there we'll see what |
s | Sterling says in terms of priorities |
s | it's on to you |
s | oh no the water right now no no no |
s | I'm not being beholden at 241 people uh |
s | no that's um yeah look I think when it |
s | comes to those like especially dedicated |
s | servers um or server browsers it's it's |
s | going to be something that we get in and |
s | I imagine soon ish I keep saying soon I |
s | gotta stop saying that word |
s | but it'll happen soon can mean anything |
s | from next patch to next year I know |
s | that's the problem it's so it's so |
s | ingenious to be like oh you know ah we |
s | gotta soon |
s | um but no it's it is something that we |
s | want to do and we've been pretty much |
s | being like yeah we need to get server |
s | browser and we need to get a server |
s | browser a lot of people are host their |
s | own Services is critical |
s | um you know being able to like you know |
s | especially when it comes to modding I |
s | think as well you know yeah uh so so |
s | yeah it is something that's on the |
s | Forefront of our mind and yeah something |
s | we could probably need to plot out a |
s | little bit better but it is planned yeah |
s | and uh one thing too oh sorry go on |
s | there you go you go yeah I'm saying |
s | unfortunately uh I I can kind of see it |
s | from your point of view when it's like |
s | okay do we fix uh do we fix the AI |
s | in these situations that are |
s | surprisingly common running face first |
s | into a wall or do we add a server |
s | browser it's like |
s | um exactly |
s | depending on who's welcome because we're |
s | not a very loud we're not a massive team |
s | yeah so that's exactly what I was going |
s | to say the the programming team like the |
s | people who do code behind the scenes is |
s | about four and a half people because I |
s | don't really count as a full person |
s | we're only a really really small team |
s | um so trying to find what's the most |
s | important thing to do is is difficult so |
s | if we think about ready or not as a game |
s | it really and we went from zero to a |
s | hundred overnight uh last year when it |
s | was released and so yeah we we're still |
s | playing catch-up in some ways um it's |
s | good zero to 100 you mean like |
s | what do you mean no when we released |
s | overnight last you know uh to steam last |
s | year you know we we went |
s | it just went nuts no one could have |
s | anticipated how big it got and and how |
s | fast Iran has exploded it's honestly |
s | been kind of absurd |
s | how I put it and how I told people it's |
s | three guys in a basement |
s | uh you're sitting at number one on Steam |
s | for a while right that's really what |
s | we're trying to deal with we're trying |
s | to build us into is this large company |
s | where you compete with the Triple A's |
s | with the budget of three guys in a bus |
s | basement but that's where we were when |
s | we started |
s | sorry I'm sure you don't live in the |
s | basement no I still do growth is uh |
s | I don't mind it here you know mummy |
s | brings me food it's great |
s | I'm not being sarcastic again no so |
s | there is there is that element to it I |
s | think where you do want |
s | um you kind of like |
s | you want to grow really fast |
s | and for anyone here who's like looking |
s | at starting a business is like in the or |
s | has a business that they've been working |
s | on |
s | um that is the thing you know you oh |
s | growth growth I want to have 100 |
s | employees I don't have 200 employees |
s | there's a lot that goes into that um the |
s | more people you have doesn't necessarily |
s | just make it better you can't just hire |
s | a hunt like you can't hire 10 |
s | programmers and it just works it's not |
s | how it works you have multiple aspects |
s | that you have to consider if you |
s | consider but the code debt you have to |
s | consider the um the uh the cost of |
s | actually bringing them up to speed |
s | getting used to the team do they work |
s | well with the team does that it |
s | literally takes like one month at least |
s | to just familiarize yourself with the |
s | code and all that and then you've got to |
s | make sure you go to vet them and you've |
s | got to vet them before you even hire |
s | them you're going to meet with them a |
s | couple times there's a lot of steps |
s | involved because and also programming |
s | programs are not cheap so you need to |
s | make sure you pick the right people |
s | um and then there is the element of uh |
s | you know manage and so that's just the |
s | program it's then you've got to manage |
s | that so you need and you go might go |
s | well we have 10 programmers they'll just |
s | do tasks we give them no are you going |
s | to know you've got to make sure their |
s | tasks are being tracked that being |
s | managed effectively there is the right |
s | middle middle Management's the wrong |
s | word but there's the right management |
s | that is in charge of that because you |
s | can only manage so many people before |
s | you actually uh kind of overextend and |
s | that's how it does that's just how it |
s | works we've done really well I think |
s | kind of like promoting people into |
s | positions where like they've shown |
s | excellence in and they're like they're |
s | actually really talented at managing |
s | people to Spain by their nature |
s | um or they just want to some people like |
s | are good at it but they just don't want |
s | to do it |
s | um and we've allowed them to almost like |
s | become leadership figures uh and and I |
s | think that's something where it goes |
s | okay great that's a really good way of |
s | kind of Bridging the Gap |
s | um but at some point you and all of a |
s | sudden you're no longer hiring |
s | programmers you're hiring uh you know |
s | um maybe like a specific producer role |
s | that Shanghai that works with programs |
s | or you're hiring someone who's in charge |
s | of like a lead producer and then like a |
s | bunch of other ones and it just kind of |
s | starts to balloon out yeah um on top of |
s | the fact that in with Early Access |
s | software it's not like bringing somebody |
s | onto something that's |
s | um to an established project there's not |
s | a uh a Bible of okay here's what |
s | everything does study this okay now |
s | start working on it |
s | yeah exactly and it's like oh we have a |
s | relation and and on top of all that we |
s | have a release in like a week you know |
s | what I mean like that's then all of a |
s | sudden it's not it's not we don't have a |
s | release in a week by the way I'm still |
s | working up please say that yeah |
s | um but yeah that's the uh that's that's |
s | the short of it I think I forgot what |
s | the original question was I ramble a lot |
s | what was the original question |
s | that's the scale thing right we started |
s | with yeah with the SDK |
s | talking about development what's what's |
s | the most important thing but when you've |
s | got more than three people working |
s | together it does get a lot harder from a |
s | communication point of view and it's |
s | important to note that we're fully |
s | remote and around the globe for example |
s | uh Mr 3DS over in UK I'm a New Zealand |
s | you know we're um those are the opposite |
s | time zones yet we still manage to |
s | deliver this game and some of us haven't |
s | even met each other |
s | Steve being the Mad lad crawling himself |
s | out of bed at eight in the morning on |
s | his side 1 p.m my side and we're |
s | squeezing out a release in what 15 |
s | minutes getting all of our stuff done |
s | oh before the morning and that's why the |
s | release times are what they are because |
s | I do the releases in New Zealand |
s | yeah but it's really cool but it does |
s | bring some interesting challenges around |
s | how do we handle the scale |
s | um yeah it's again it's not three people |
s | just talking in a room anymore or on on |
s | Discord it's 40 to 50 people yeah no |
s | it's true like I've been in teams of |
s | kind of like 20 environment artists in |
s | the past and one thing I can say is like |
s | the way that we're working it's kind of |
s | incredible in a way that like I never |
s | thought it would work but it's one of |
s | those things where I would rather and I |
s | mean no pun with this but I would rather |
s | have a SWAT team of a few people that I |
s | know that I can give the job to and |
s | we've got the communication there and |
s | they're passionate I think the passion |
s | really is like a massive factor in this |
s | like everyone who's making Ready or Not |
s | wants to make ready or not so like we've |
s | we've had it in the past where we've |
s | expanded our team and you know we've |
s | we've not necessarily got the people |
s | who've got that passion there and it |
s | shows and you know we have such a big |
s | trust |
s | um within our company kind of ethics and |
s | how we work with each other like we |
s | trust each other not only to get the job |
s | done but uh you know to have those |
s | Communications and to talk with people |
s | and make sure that like you're that |
s | we're always striving for the next best |
s | thing rather than just kind of doing |
s | what we're being told |
s | um so yeah like I would rather take a |
s | smaller SWAT team of people than an army |
s | any day like our output is incredible |
s | compared to like some of the teams that |
s | I've worked with in the past |
s | um and yeah it's one of those things |
s | where exactly what you're saying more |
s | people does not necessarily mean more |
s | content or more quality it it if |
s | anything it becomes just more waste of |
s | time as you're trying to Corral all of |
s | that to get the final product exactly |
s | yeah yeah very awesome |
s | all right and then we can take a little |
s | bit of a break from all the uh all the |
s | really technical heartfelt stuff and um |
s | ask if uh you guys actually have |
s | anything bracketed for |
s | um kind of like SWAT four style single |
s | player scenarios campaigns |
s | yeah |
s | I want to share the juice but I I really |
s | do should I got any more any more juicy |
s | uh ml lower for us |
s | oh yeah for sure in fact you get to |
s | Richland you probably get a bit of that |
s | but I'm not gonna say anything else |
s | about that so look um |
s | uh the |
s | so the way that we're looking at the |
s | campaign this question come up I had a |
s | dream about it uh the way that we're |
s | looking at the the way the single player |
s | is going to work isn't the typical swap |
s | for like oh play this level then you |
s | unlock the night vision and then you |
s | continue the next level and you get it |
s | um mostly because the way that we're |
s | going to release run the future is you |
s | know continue to expand the um |
s | uh lithuanas world you know like we |
s | really want to expand this city and like |
s | think like Payday 2 how you just at the |
s | end of that that game I don't even know |
s | they might still be making |
s | um I don't think they're still making |
s | levels for it but whatever by the time |
s | that was done their production was done |
s | um they had a shitload of levels that |
s | you just play it was awesome |
s | um we want to have that and also plus |
s | Community Maps as well which is really |
s | cool |
s | um we want to be able to have that and |
s | then have a |
s | an in a sense a narrative that allows |
s | the player to kind of like experience |
s | this in a way that's very engaging so |
s | the way that we're looking at it is |
s | um we're calling it uh less Thanos |
s | Commander |
s | um and it's a little bit more of an |
s | active world that you are kind of |
s | managing and then uh it's it's a lot |
s | more it's kind of permadeathy I'll leave |
s | it there just because again it's it's |
s | very similar to the customization these |
s | are the two things that were experience |
s | so personalization these are the two |
s | things it was actually there are three |
s | things I don't say a third one there are |
s | two things that were experimenting with |
s | just to see how they feel |
s | um this is something that I think would |
s | be really exciting if we get it right |
s | um it would probably become something |
s | that I would hope you know that's |
s | something that really |
s | cement's original is an incredible |
s | unique game |
s | um far beyond its its peers as as cool |
s | as some of these other games out there |
s | are and they've got their own you know |
s | drawers |
s | um but in this in this realm I think it |
s | would be something that was really |
s | unique um and also |
s | uh what's the right word for it |
s | um like |
s | contextually it makes sense yeah the |
s | world that that radar setting isn't |
s | meant to be like a nice place and it's |
s | meant to be quite even the even the fact |
s | you're not you're not doing all the |
s | missions you know your character isn't |
s | doing all the missions there are other |
s | SWAT teams out there putting out other |
s | fires so to speak |
s | um and even some of your guys might go |
s | and do some of that too some of you guys |
s | might be you know uh part-time officers |
s | you know you have a full-time sport team |
s | but there might be some part-time |
s | officers in there |
s | um you know and maybe while you're |
s | playing things kind of happen to you in |
s | the |
s | um well it's your team in the world you |
s | know every week get a Roundup and you |
s | know maybe uh one of your part-time |
s | officers was on a patrol lost his call |
s | um you know broke some kid's arm you |
s | know did something like that and now |
s | he's been suspended he can't use him for |
s | the next mission things like that that's |
s | where we'd like to explore it and um |
s | still tell a story but it's a story that |
s | continues to always like it continues to |
s | grow until itself and then you know |
s | that's that's where we'd like to go with |
s | it |
s | um but again I'm getting very nervous to |
s | almost |
s | if it doesn't work we may not release it |
s | just keep that in mind guys just like if |
s | it doesn't work like we'll probably like |
s | I'll probably we'll have another q a |
s | I'll be like we tried it it sounds cool |
s | babe it's not cool in gameplay but uh |
s | Los Windows Commander would be something |
s | where we really you know it really it |
s | changes the the single player itself |
s | isn't just like cult with Bots it's |
s | actually its own thing you know the the |
s | the station is you know breathing it's |
s | it's it's a different kind of |
s | environment and you have to make |
s | decisions in game and before you load up |
s | um that really affect you you know the |
s | uh you know future missions or affect |
s | your team you know that's kind of where |
s | we want to go with it or where I'd like |
s | to go with it that sounds cool as hell |
s | yeah I mean I could go on all day about |
s | like we have this like you know we've |
s | got this document written up we've got |
s | all these plans now that um kind of |
s | stick they kind of hinge on the SWAT Ai |
s | and a few other things |
s | um a few other you know gameplay |
s | elements but yeah yeah it should be |
s | really cool and it also it's all look |
s | the whole game |
s | to now has been almost created with this |
s | in mind like it has been it's not just |
s | something we've gone oh look at it now |
s | no this has been something that all the |
s | all the modes the mission types that |
s | wasn't a thing until this mode was kind |
s | of this idea was kind of formulated |
s | you've got your |
s | uh hostage risk you've got all this |
s | other stuff you know you've got uh and |
s | these modes are all meant to be |
s | um kind of hinging on the ls Commander |
s | mode |
s | um which again may or may not come out |
s | the way I'm explaining it uh very |
s | vaguely explaining it right now so |
s | yeah it has been something that we've |
s | been talking about and planning for a |
s | while uh and and we'll see how it goes |
s | and I'd be really excited if we can get |
s | it right I think with this team that's |
s | why I'm so confident |
s | um that we can get it right |
s | because I think with early teams it |
s | might have been a little bit more |
s | difficult but with this team I think |
s | yeah we can we could probably nail this |
s | I think with the skill level everyone's |
s | at right now it could be really exciting |
s | if we get it right |
s | um well it sounds exciting yeah I'm just |
s | going to slide in The Words Hunt |
s | Showdown and I'm going to leave it there |
s | it's not it's not like a it's not a like |
s | like a looter shooter thing it's nothing |
s | about just one element of that game but |
s | I'm just gonna leave it there |
s | and now for uh for for thankfully a very |
s | much smaller scale uh question |
s | um |
s | are you ever are you guys ever gonna |
s | bring back the original paintball pepper |
s | gun |
s | you mean yeah |
s | I don't think so that that holds a soft |
s | spot in uh in quite a few users hearts |
s | yeah we know |
s | all right we have two we had the tech |
s | 700 and we have the uh the one that was |
s | in the PVP the mlo a pepper gun the the |
s | classic one uh it was just a paintball |
s | gun |
s | um look probably not not no current form |
s | because mostly because animation was |
s | depending the ass |
s | um we can get that right it could be |
s | cool uh but really at that point it's |
s | just like a |
s | it's slightly different you know there's |
s | not really much of an advantage to it |
s | and for us that's just a lot of work so |
s | I would say |
s | maybe not at least not for now you know |
s | um let's not for now sorry guys well to |
s | be fair when we get the SDK and users |
s | get the ability to add their own guns |
s | instead of having to piggyback off of |
s | existing guns you guys wouldn't even |
s | have to do it so you guys can add 500 |
s | different paintball guns if you'd like |
s | you can have the speed ones and electric |
s | oh God [ __ ] speedball guns no yeah |
s | you disabled they'll be sick |
s | um hmm let's see well lots lots of |
s | repeat questions unfortunately so I |
s | gotta dig a little bit |
s | um |
s | any uh any plans for uh additional |
s | tactical items not not like um |
s | additional types of launchers but more |
s | uh utility tools like different sorts of |
s | breaching tools |
s | um accessibility tools stuff like that |
s | uh like for example drones ladders |
s | um |
s | uh anything else you guys can think of |
s | that would fit in that uh uh Jones was |
s | an early uh uh concept but I don't think |
s | that's coming back right uh yeah uh well |
s | is one of the first uh first things I |
s | implemented um it was really cool but |
s | yeah I don't think he has a use anywhere |
s | in our levels at the moment yeah the |
s | only way that I could see that working |
s | is if we did like and again I'm not |
s | saying we're doing this by any means but |
s | if we did do some kind of like hardcore |
s | sort of like single player campaign |
s | where it would be like a One-Shot sort |
s | of like scripted event |
s | um you know like very akin to like a |
s | Call of Duty kind of company yeah I |
s | think that's the only word that that |
s | kind of scenario would work is if we can |
s | just vastly and heavily limit what |
s | they're just kind of curate where like |
s | here at the exact level to make it for a |
s | drone exactly yeah but because our |
s | gameplay just basically doesn't support |
s | bass like there's just I can't imagine |
s | that's ever gonna be a thing no look |
s | it's probably not going to be a thing |
s | and yeah we definitely do any curated |
s | levels like that but it it probably |
s | won't be a thing and until |
s | it might be something we do in some sort |
s | of DLC I think uh it might find its way |
s | in really the idea is you've got to |
s | build your level around around these |
s | things like lattice you've got to build |
s | your level around that as a valley kind |
s | of was meant to be built with ladders in |
s | mind and then it shifted a little bit |
s | because we realized that they were |
s | difficult as hell to get to work |
s | um but and we were doing a thousand |
s | things but yes there are plans for new |
s | technical items to answer your question |
s | um we have a few different things there |
s | they've been animated they've been |
s | modeled so that's cool |
s | um but we haven't really touched on them |
s | yet I think we have so many larger |
s | things that we're looking at that again |
s | with our team |
s | um |
s | we might just have to wait until you |
s | know a bit later but yeah we have |
s | um I'll show you guys have seen the |
s | sledgehammer thing I forgot what it's |
s | called there's a halogen bar |
s | um |
s | and uh we even have a different a few |
s | different types of breaching items like |
s | we have this uh we have this uh the the |
s | deck cord |
s | um and it's a roll of Decor that is |
s | attached to a piece of tape and we even |
s | have the animations for it where it kind |
s | of relax the tape down the hinges of the |
s | door |
s | um and you blow the hinges off uh and |
s | the idea initially back in the day was |
s | pretty cool you'd like to kind of like |
s | make x's or like squares or whatever but |
s | now it's just more like something where |
s | it's like we have all the assets for it |
s | we haven't really thought past that and |
s | um the thing with our design is like |
s | well |
s | you can only be like right now C C2 |
s | breaches the door it just blows the door |
s | up so there's no real like there's no |
s | other way to bridge the door if you if |
s | you disintegrate the door then that's it |
s | but |
s | um as we go we might find ourselves |
s | getting you know and the community |
s | probably this is something where you |
s | land in the community a bit get a bit |
s | bored of just breaching every door the |
s | same way so maybe there's you know |
s | different types of door that all of a |
s | sudden having a certain type of bridge |
s | would be very useful that's actually |
s | that's not what I was going to ask or um |
s | or hell since the since the dead chord |
s | is a much smaller explosive you could |
s | have it where you breach with a dead |
s | cord and it doesn't you know harm |
s | anybody behind the door just because you |
s | know you're not putting a block of uh |
s | plastic explosives |
s | exactly yeah exactly there's a lot of |
s | different ways you could do it um and |
s | yeah maybe it's yield is smaller maybe |
s | it can't Bridge certain like steel you |
s | know I mean like so all of a sudden |
s | that's how you kind of balance it out a |
s | bit |
s | um at this point we've got |
s | considerations for all this stuff I |
s | think this should be really cool all |
s | right |
s | um |
s | what else what else what else |
s | um oh that's actually a pretty good |
s | question uh will there be |
s | um any specific types of |
s | uh game modes or scenarios in The Wider |
s | multiplayer space that are specific to |
s | certain types of maps |
s | like say full health house having a |
s | specific type of |
s | um type of Rescue Mission or |
s | uh |
s | crack house having its own specific type |
s | of breach and clear |
s | yeah custom game mode for like each map |
s | you mean no it's like it sounds like |
s | it's like for healthy rescue for like uh |
s | for um for Valley would be |
s | um |
s | maybe instead of there being a party or |
s | probably still be a party but you would |
s | have you know maybe you know Amos falls |
s | in the basement and there is you know |
s | maybe there are kids in the basement |
s | already and you've got to go rescue them |
s | instead of it being as |
s | um various potentials |
s | yeah so like um perhaps would have |
s | static scenarios that you can play in |
s | multiplayer instead of the randomize as |
s | it is now |
s | yeah yeah that's planned yeah actually |
s | it's planned for um hostage rescue |
s | specifically oh cool um yeah |
s | all righty |
s | planned I should say but we again you |
s | know we need to see remains to be saying |
s | but I'm pretty sure that would be a good |
s | way to make hostage rescue a little more |
s | unique |
s | yeah we have yet to implement it yes we |
s | have yet to implement |
s | so that that sounds pretty neat |
s | um what about uh what's uh how does this |
s | little selection process go when you |
s | guys are picking uh new guns to add into |
s | Ready or Not um you've already stated |
s | that you don't want to |
s | you don't want to make a 2 out there you |
s | want to kind of keep it where |
s | you want to give people guns so you want |
s | to give the players access to guns that |
s | law enforcement |
s | units do use but at what point is it not |
s | either is it either two out there or is |
s | it not used enough |
s | Navarro actually he Navarro tells us |
s | which ones sound the best and then based |
s | on that |
s | that's precisely not we will uh honestly |
s | a lot of the guns picked it is because |
s | they're interesting and there's there's |
s | a lot that are there that's what teams |
s | to use |
s | um yeah we're based off something maybe |
s | an advisor wouldn't mention like our |
s | advisor with Mission or uh it was |
s | something we've seen but really a lot of |
s | a lot of guys using M4 that's our |
s | platforms |
s | um so it's not |
s | so important platforms and things like |
s | that so it's not super |
s | it's various I think you know you have |
s | your like one and done kind of solution |
s | there |
s | um but a lot of now at this point we're |
s | like oh this is cool we like this you |
s | know we really like this specific gun we |
s | want to add this in |
s | um |
s | uh you know it's cool like maybe one of |
s | us has gone to a range and shut it like |
s | I've shot a few guns um I took I took a |
s | few guns out to range and shot those and |
s | they were really unique weapons newer |
s | ones and I was like this is pretty cool |
s | let's work on these and everyone's like |
s | oh that seems like a cool gun ad let's |
s | do that well someone will be like oh I |
s | saw this gun in another game it's really |
s | sweet let's add this again |
s | um some guns that we are holding on to |
s | for other for other things I think |
s | um |
s | just because you know you don't want to |
s | have a thousand weapons |
s | um in the base game |
s | it's kind of a lot so you can get a bit |
s | bored of making guns every time |
s | um so that's the other thing I mean if |
s | if we're talking about uh cool guns uh |
s | more bullpups win |
s | yeah yeah it's the uh what's the what's |
s | the most popular one that people want |
s | right now is like the Devore or is it |
s | like the AUG f88 specifically V Tavor |
s | x95 and the AUG A3 |
s | yeah of course yeah |
s | I'd like to see an org yeah it'd be cool |
s | I mean uh DC and walk I believe it's DC |
s | and Washington forestry agents actually |
s | use uh AUG A3 is no is it yeah I believe |
s | it's dogs |
s | three agents believe it or not yeah |
s | really shooting what are they what are |
s | they shooting they're cutting the trees |
s | down actually yeah ball pups are short |
s | they're they're Compact and 16 inch |
s | barrel and like a 20 some odd inch like |
s | package in case in case you gotta put |
s | down something aggressive at long range |
s | you know that's fair that's true that's |
s | very true and whether a New Zealand Army |
s | weapon of choice for a while too the |
s | style aug pretty cool yeah yeah this is |
s | all right now so |
s | um yeah for sure that'd be really cool |
s | we'll see I'll say we'll say for now |
s | um you had mentioned uh DLC earlier uh |
s | do you have any idea what uh future DLC |
s | might take the form of |
s | yeah yeah we we have um |
s | we have some ideas on what the DLC could |
s | look like uh we have some plans as well |
s | uh |
s | we're looking at currently how we're |
s | going to handle DLC I think you know |
s | we're like honestly my DLC |
s | DLC are usually like Maps you know what |
s | I mean like a lot of them will just be |
s | like packs of levels and things like |
s | that |
s | um and then you'll also have uh |
s | I feel like I'm saying too much but like |
s | you'll have like you know the idea is |
s | almost like categorizing into DLCs and |
s | expansions DLCs are levels expansion |
s | packs might be new gameplay feature |
s | introductions as well as levels and |
s | characters and things like that |
s | um and that's kind of those are the two |
s | different ways that we want to |
s | potentially approach it |
s | um |
s | and obviously no threats anyway AI |
s | threats and things like that um would |
s | probably be across both I think |
s | um we do have plans I don't want to say |
s | what those are just yet but we do have |
s | plans um some of them will serve you |
s | know the single player some of them will |
s | serve um not that you won't just be able |
s | to play them you'll be able to play on |
s | the co-op as well |
s | um they'll all have their own their own |
s | place I think |
s | um |
s | and we're planning some research trips |
s | to to help with that |
s | but yeah yeah it's just something on the |
s | side right now that we're thinking about |
s | a little bit because it's good to kind |
s | of get that Runway that projected Runway |
s | foreign |
s | a lot of questions here about |
s | pre-planning that was mentioned in the |
s | um in the public AMA but is there |
s | anything either you want to uh you know |
s | restate for the record |
s | um add to the uh talk about pre-planning |
s | because it's been |
s | it's been I believe five months since |
s | the last day me already it's been a |
s | while yeah |
s | uh I do is I don't want to answer I've |
s | been talking a lot and I just want to |
s | answer this question |
s | I don't really um I haven't seen the |
s | pre-planning but I know it's been worked |
s | on by our other programmers |
s | um I don't know how far that's coming |
s | along but yeah it is yeah no so yes |
s | pre-planning is is coming along really |
s | well we've got this uh it's the way that |
s | we're doing it is quite a unique way not |
s | just like some HUD that pops up on your |
s | screen or anything like that |
s | um it's accessible in the lobby and in |
s | the game uh and the way that we're doing |
s | it is a little bit more unique |
s | um we're calling it The sit rep menu |
s | right now |
s | so it's not let's say menu so to speak |
s | but you can pick |
s | in the lobby you'll be able to see the |
s | missions |
s | um pick your entry points and whatnot at |
s | some stage |
s | um as well as you know draw map plans uh |
s | kind of get an idea of what the map |
s | might look like and it's coming it's |
s | been Sam you might be able to talk a |
s | little bit about maybe the maps |
s | um how you've been handling some of |
s | those maps that we're looking at |
s | um because I think it's a really cool |
s | little little thing to have |
s | um but yeah no no we do we we actually |
s | wanted to release it with the atom |
s | update um but we kinda |
s | um some things happened uh outside of |
s | the development of the game |
s | um for some some individuals and they |
s | couldn't get it done in time so that |
s | will be something that will happen uh in |
s | the future and definitely something |
s | that's I'm really excited for because |
s | that's a big element to it's once you |
s | play like a lot of you probably played |
s | the maps a lot so you probably already |
s | know where every single room is you know |
s | you may even know where all the spawns |
s | are which is [ __ ] impressive |
s | um but that doesn't necessarily mean |
s | that you know having a map isn't useful |
s | especially with new players especially |
s | with people who may want to strategize a |
s | little bit more before they enter an |
s | engagement and there are even some other |
s | aspects of the sit rep menu which I |
s | won't talk about yet but things that we |
s | may be looking at which could |
s | make |
s | um |
s | some other gameplay elements a lot |
s | easier I'm being super vague but um yeah |
s | there's a few out there's a few aspects |
s | of this menu |
s | um we're probably looking at it |
s | replacing the tab |
s | button so you know you press tab the |
s | score comes up because the secret menu |
s | will encapsulate your map score it'll |
s | even give you team composition uh you |
s | know it won't tell you how much ammo |
s | they have or anything like that but you |
s | know if they're alive or not |
s | um |
s | and a few other things too objectives uh |
s | I already said that um and briefing |
s | information as well so there's a few |
s | things that you'll be able to get access |
s | to and ideally we give this to players |
s | in the lobby and then we give them |
s | different things in the game as well |
s | which they can also use |
s | from an outside as well that's just |
s | really great because it really sets the |
s | tone for the level it's like a little |
s | bit of like Flavor before you get into |
s | the game where we can just like you know |
s | establish some of the story stuff set |
s | the mood um and just have that little |
s | bit of freedom from an art side to kind |
s | of like get the player in in a certain |
s | frame of mind before they start the |
s | level absolutely and I mean the other |
s | thing that's really cool too is like you |
s | have a certain levels where maybe you |
s | don't have the and this is where we can |
s | interface with Dan with our um with our |
s | advisor and and he'll be like oh well |
s | you know in a situation like this you |
s | know we're responding kind of very |
s | quickly it's not planned so you probably |
s | try and get access to maybe a fire a |
s | fire escape plan or something like that |
s | you know we would say if it's a hotel or |
s | if it's an apartment you know it's just |
s | something there and then you know on the |
s | sit room and you pull it up and it's a |
s | Well Sam maybe you want to talk about |
s | what that could look like on the super |
s | menu |
s | um yeah I mean like I've kind of gotten |
s | started on some of the maps right now I |
s | think I've finished uh gases math and |
s | um |
s | I'm still kind of working on the map for |
s | um |
s | agency |
s | so but it's been really fun like |
s | um thinking about like the meth Maps |
s | um |
s | I want to do like a typical house floor |
s | plan |
s | um but it's going to be interesting |
s | because like the current met Dallas has |
s | like all these holes in the walls and |
s | it's like falling up like falling apart |
s | um |
s | but like the original floor plan is |
s | going to be all intact it's going to be |
s | you know this was originally built so |
s | kind of |
s | that sort of unpredictability is kind of |
s | yeah that'll be cool and like some of |
s | the maps and I guess like um |
s | like the map for Club is going to be |
s | probably like a fire escape plan |
s | um that's been like taken off the wall |
s | and uh |
s | it's kind of been marked by like the law |
s | enforcement that were there like |
s | where possible like bodies were or |
s | something |
s | yep for sure |
s | that sounds amazing |
s | yeah like things like uh reporter are |
s | probably going to be a bit more vague |
s | like it's just a drawing |
s | like you don't get all the details of |
s | the inside of the warehouse you just see |
s | like a big Square it's just what it says |
s | Warehouse you don't know what's in it |
s | yeah because exactly they're not going |
s | to have that plotted out |
s | necessarily but you might get some |
s | information through the form of yeah |
s | like CCTV or other things that they have |
s | access to |
s | um which is really cool so there's a few |
s | ways we're looking into it and how it |
s | could be really really neat to to show |
s | this stuff off and in a like diegetic |
s | way almost you know |
s | getting a photo of the fire plan instead |
s | of just having it as like a PD like you |
s | could even have a PDF actually but |
s | getting a photo of the file the the fire |
s | escape plan instead of like just some |
s | like 2D image that you can like go |
s | around is pretty cool if we get it right |
s | and a few other things like that so |
s | I got faith |
s | yeah |
s | what's that saying I was going to say |
s | can I like post uh sort of what I've |
s | done so far the one you the one you sent |
s | me or the uh neon and the agency one or |
s | it's like the newspaper equipment |
s | oh yeah absolutely yeah of course yep if |
s | you uh drop it in ama questions sorry |
s | Amy discussion I will uh pin it so |
s | people know where to look for it |
s | awesome thank you |
s | I could actually put in the uh mini Dev |
s | update |
s | new channel I am a Dev updates |
s | foreign |
s | it's really high definition so I don't |
s | want to take just a screenshot |
s | blurry I guess |
s | hello |
s | hello |
s | um |
s | we'll keep going we can always Circle |
s | back to that just to like comment on it |
s | um actually a question for uh |
s | specifically for Zach let's come up I |
s | have more than one surprisingly |
s | um a couple people are are asking |
s | um |
s | where where did you start with uh |
s | would you start with sound sound design |
s | and you got any tips for anybody looking |
s | to kind of push into either sound design |
s | for video games or just sound design in |
s | general |
s | this is a very intense question but I'll |
s | try to cut it down as much as I can |
s | um so all I'm going to say is that covid |
s | really destroyed the line between kind |
s | of like one day you're like a bedroom |
s | sound designer producer and then the |
s | next day you're like in the AAA space |
s | um |
s | beforehand it was a lot of smaller |
s | projects and it was pretty like I was |
s | not really dealing with the sound design |
s | aspect it was more so the music aspect |
s | and that was just there's a short film |
s | that was uh shot in South Korea |
s | and there's a Nui Blanche project for |
s | and that's like a little thing that we |
s | do in Toronto um one night where you get |
s | you get a lot of artists who come down |
s | and they showcase their their pieces |
s | that they've been working on |
s | um |
s | but nothing really of this scope and |
s | definitely nothing where the |
s | collaboration is pretty much constant so |
s | the start was literally one day you know |
s | you make a a track and someone notices |
s | it and then you're chatting with the |
s | right people and it it really fell |
s | together that fast |
s | um and then from there it was just like |
s | okay so I've got to really pick up my |
s | socks now I've got to learn about |
s | um like for example uh |
s | I know I was just so curious about the |
s | entire process and and we have like a |
s | lot of open-ended access |
s | um in the in the void |
s | top secret Discord server where we can |
s | kind of see what what everyone's working |
s | on and then from there it's like okay so |
s | they're working on this I'll start |
s | working on this and and it's honestly |
s | just it's a learning process the whole |
s | way through like Mark couldn't have said |
s | it any better earlier |
s | um so how to get started on that |
s | well basically it's just you've got to |
s | be able to kind of develop your own uh |
s | system that works for you and you've got |
s | to tell yourself okay |
s | like this person might be doing |
s | something like how do I emulate it but |
s | at the end of the day you want to make |
s | your own stuff that that people |
s | kind of want to they kind of want to |
s | um emulate off of you and that's it's |
s | kind of a I hate being this vague with |
s | the question but it's really the best |
s | way I can voice it is just do you do |
s | your own thing and keep working at it |
s | um |
s | and also be sure to just kind of like |
s | when you're playing games like if if you |
s | like a sound effect for example if you |
s | like a music track like maybe try to |
s | like uh |
s | I feel like I'm going off on a tantric |
s | here |
s | um |
s | essentially you just really want to like |
s | keep practicing keep keep doing the |
s | thing that you love doing |
s | um you don't have to be a master at |
s | everything |
s | but if you really like pinpoint that one |
s | thing that you're really good at and |
s | just keep kind of |
s | working at that you really can get |
s | somewhere as long as you stay focused |
s | and you keep yourself on a good timeline |
s | with you know the kind of stuff that you |
s | like doing |
s | I'm sure you can relate with this as |
s | well Zach when when I kind of say like |
s | one of the one of the best kind of |
s | devices I can give um to kind of go on |
s | with that um is yeah like like as I said |
s | like even when you're just like playing |
s | games or you're going for a walk or |
s | you're traveling or whatever you're |
s | doing the thing that makes like the |
s | difference between sort of like a good |
s | artist and a really really really good |
s | artist is building that sort of like |
s | mental library that you can sort of like |
s | pull from and you're not just looking at |
s | stuff but you're observing stuff and |
s | you're seeing how it works and you're |
s | pulling it apart in your head and you're |
s | you're learning just kind of like from a |
s | day-to-day stuff |
s | um and I imagine you do that as well a |
s | lot Zach when it comes to like you know |
s | taking inspiration from everything |
s | around you I was going to say well Mark |
s | is also he's a he's definitely seasoned |
s | vet of the industry and that's why I'm |
s | having trouble you can hear me kind of |
s | stumbling over my words I'm just trying |
s | to like uh finally voice what's what's |
s | that day-to-day thing that that uh that |
s | it's like when you're working with sound |
s | but uh yeah completely mental Library |
s | like what does this sound sound like at |
s | this distance |
s | um how do I build the music so that it's |
s | more tense in this area of the game and |
s | then also the other thing is when I |
s | first started with void uh I really did |
s | not have a good concept of blueprints |
s | and um it's like kind of a very |
s | primitive language in ue4 to get things |
s | to trigger or or just work in a very |
s | basic sense so learning that alongside |
s | with kind of building the skills that I |
s | need to make the music and the sound |
s | just as good as it can be for already or |
s | not that's that was like a pretty |
s | challenging thing to kind of uh build on |
s | so |
s | but there's a few um things that that |
s | come on from there as well Zach it goes |
s | to all um areas of work it's it's |
s | attitude and attitude you just got to |
s | get in there give it a go and learn and |
s | learn and learn so Sterling and some of |
s | the other Founders have never made a |
s | game I know uh because one of the |
s | founders is my younger brother |
s | um and he I remember when he said to me |
s | I'm going to make a game that's it it's |
s | actually pretty hard to make a game |
s | that's well I've never made a game and |
s | seven years later we have ready or not |
s | he taught himself to program he just |
s | learned what he needed to learn to get |
s | the job done and so attitude aptitude |
s | and some resilience and you can learn |
s | yeah 100 I I I do visiting lectures |
s | around various different universities |
s | and things like that and one of the |
s | things one of the mantras that I not |
s | only live by but one of the ones that I |
s | try and propagate to everyone is fail |
s | faster like just the idea of okay I |
s | don't know how to do something you can |
s | sit and think about it and read upon it |
s | and learn about it as much as you want |
s | but until you're actually like Hands-On |
s | trying stuff throwing stuff in the |
s | engine seeing what works seeing what |
s | doesn't work picking it apart like just |
s | getting getting your hands dirty and |
s | learning like what doesn't work faster |
s | is how you then learn from your mistakes |
s | and just get better so yeah failing |
s | faster is a wonderful Mantra that I I |
s | really do live by I mean it's a lot |
s | better to know what doesn't work than |
s | what does because then you can more |
s | easily Focus yourself down |
s | yeah I mean you know I've said this |
s | before on the other AMA um but like half |
s | of what making games is isn't knowing |
s | how to how to make a game it's how not |
s | to make a game |
s | I I agree I mean I I think that probably |
s | the best way I can like wrap it up |
s | um is just by saying the tools that we |
s | use in the game right now those are like |
s | you can download fmod right now and pop |
s | it into a Unity or Unreal Engine 4 |
s | project and then from there like like if |
s | you've got any questions feel free to |
s | tag me I'm really open to just answering |
s | like uh fmod questions or anything uh |
s | not with unity it's a little bit tougher |
s | to kind of like |
s | um spell it out just because I haven't |
s | used Unity with fmod as much |
s | but um you really like it's it's the |
s | exact same way that I learned it's just |
s | like trial and error and and if this |
s | works okay awesome and if it doesn't |
s | it's like okay drawing board let's try |
s | this again |
s | it's a very iterative iterative |
s | environment |
s | all right that that that should uh that |
s | should nice and thoroughly answer those |
s | uh those questions that we're waiting |
s | for you |
s | um |
s | and I guess here's uh here's a good one |
s | actually uh we can we'll we'll start |
s | from the from the top with Ollie and |
s | work our way down |
s | um is there anything that uh you're |
s | working on that you can talk about |
s | that you're excited to either finally |
s | launch or finally have the chance to |
s | talk about and then we'll uh we'll start |
s | with Ollie and work our way down the uh |
s | the list here |
s | um I think the big one for me is what I |
s | I |
s | um that's gonna be like a huge mountain |
s | um to overcome |
s | um I don't really have anything like |
s | major planned besides that |
s | um yeah just just what I I just getting |
s | that |
s | um |
s | you know improve basically over what we |
s | have now right now |
s | um yeah that's all short and sweet uh |
s | Sterling what do you got |
s | I've literally been like gas bagging |
s | about all these plants for the last hour |
s | and a half oh yeah so what I'm looking |
s | forward to is having everyone be like |
s | why the [ __ ] did you just tell everybody |
s | all of our plans I'd be like I don't |
s | know sorry I got excited |
s | um |
s | no uh I I |
s | don't know I I honestly am going to join |
s | early this one I'm excited for the SWAT |
s | AI |
s | um I really am I think that'll be really |
s | cool we've got some super cool plans for |
s | this audio so no plans things have |
s | already been executed but uh yeah yeah |
s | basically for the next few months that's |
s | the only thing I'll be working on like |
s | besides some other small things but |
s | because that's like really really cool |
s | AI it's really unique and interesting |
s | and then you're like yeah what the [ __ ] |
s | did I do that how the hell did they do |
s | that and then with and with maps too you |
s | play maps and then you could you just |
s | generate all the logic and it was done |
s | um it doesn't work everywhere though |
s | that that shoot house uh the shootouts |
s | level the one you're testing it is awful |
s | in the street that's a little so it's |
s | not always perfect |
s | um but it's super cool they get lost |
s | sometimes like they don't like operate |
s | like as well |
s | I mean and we're not really trying to |
s | make |
s | that's what I we're just trying like |
s | SWAT three aisles yeah we're trying to |
s | we're trying to do something better than |
s | that so that's that's the idea but um |
s | yeah um came for that too |
s | all right I could probably jump in on |
s | this yeah um |
s | so I know one of the things |
s | um Navarro was actually really |
s | interested in getting some |
s | realistic weapon Reflections just stuff |
s | that bounces off the environment |
s | um now the other thing is like we really |
s | wanted to use a more out of the box |
s | solution something like an Oculus |
s | Plug-In or a resonance audio or steam |
s | audio unfortunately we we did we tested |
s | all of these we ran them through the |
s | gauntlet and it's just uh someone that |
s | would break within 10 minutes or we |
s | wouldn't be able to use all the key |
s | features or they were just too expensive |
s | which means that we do have to develop a |
s | custom solution |
s | so it's a little bit more work and |
s | having to steal someone from coding |
s | um while they already have their |
s | plateful is it's a balancing act but I |
s | think we'll we'll get it sorted out |
s | um yeah every plugin we tried is always |
s | just that one thing that's just wrong |
s | with it and we just can't use it's |
s | pretty annoying it kills us like it |
s | really kills us because steam audio has |
s | some absolutely crazy stuff and I know |
s | um there's been I know someone posted a |
s | demo video where you're walking around |
s | you can hear the sound really bending |
s | around the corners and it's just it |
s | kills me it kills me too but uh no so |
s | there's there's working on something |
s | like that |
s | um I know footsteps has also been a |
s | thing as well where you can hear |
s | footsteps through multiple floors of a |
s | building |
s | um it's it's I wish it was an easier |
s | solution to kind of figure out but it's |
s | a little it's still pretty intense so |
s | we're still working on making sure that |
s | you know you're not going to hear uh |
s | terrorists like two floors up on |
s | hospital for example |
s | um and we're also replacing I know one |
s | of the default footstep sounds was kind |
s | of janky so we're getting that swapped |
s | out as we speak |
s | but uh no it's pretty much just uh |
s | advancing on what we're already doing so |
s | just making sure things are more |
s | detailed uh really getting that kind of |
s | special sound locked in uh but yeah it's |
s | improving that's basically what the |
s | sound team's at right now |
s | awesome |
s | all right uh Mark you got anything nice |
s | and shiny for us |
s | yeah I mean I'm not gonna say too much |
s | because obviously spoilers be spoilers |
s | um one thing that I you know I will just |
s | say as a kind of blanket statement is |
s | and I I'm incredibly grateful that |
s | working on this game I have so much |
s | creative control with what sort of like |
s | the levels look like I I really feel |
s | like I get to basically just go |
s | completely nuts from a creative |
s | standpoint |
s | um and yeah like the the next couple of |
s | maps um sort of that we're working at |
s | the moment |
s | um it's it's definitely pushed my |
s | boundaries like is it like as an artist |
s | like I'm feeling like I get to be a lot |
s | more creatively involved um with |
s | different sort of like things I would |
s | have not necessarily done before and I'm |
s | playing with different Avenues of |
s | Storytelling |
s | um so yeah like the next couple of maths |
s | is going to be incredibly story Rich |
s | um I've also you know done |
s | um a little bit more design work um on |
s | this next map which is uh something I'm |
s | not you know super confident with |
s | obviously we have dedicated gameplay |
s | designers |
s | um who primarily do the blockouts but |
s | I've doubled in that a little bit as |
s | well so you know I'm always excited |
s | about all the new maps coming out |
s | um because yeah like every new map for |
s | me is a new challenge and I get to just |
s | be completely creatively you know free |
s | with it which is awesome |
s | um it's Sterling already made a point of |
s | mentioning the the new station |
s | beforehand so I can kind of kind of go |
s | with that that for us |
s | um of me especially it it it it's such a |
s | staple of what the game kind of like |
s | is from from a |
s | um |
s | to put it a different way it's like it's |
s | the lobby it's where you spend most of |
s | time it's gonna be you know where |
s | there's so much like story driven |
s | aspects of the game everyone's going to |
s | be in there as you're loading the levels |
s | it's so important to us that we get the |
s | lobby right |
s | um so I'm really excited to basically |
s | give the the lobby like a whole new |
s | Fresh coat of pants |
s | um and you know completely different |
s | design different atmosphere and you know |
s | take a lot more of the boxes that we |
s | wanted to do in the previous one and |
s | expand it out further into all these |
s | other kind of different Avenues |
s | and it's funny that Mark Mark mentions |
s | the lobby um the new Lobby music that we |
s | have now was was kind of like a very I |
s | guess early blueprint of like how the |
s | music's gonna shift when you move around |
s | so you go to this one area and it's |
s | gonna go into something else and then |
s | somewhere else and you get all these |
s | different layers coming in so |
s | official yeah |
s | it's gonna be pretty sweet I I the uh |
s | yeah the station is the lobby the new |
s | Lobby is going to be pretty exciting |
s | because the other one we had was like |
s | the one that you guys played now even if |
s | we gave it a bit of an update with some |
s | more detail which is kind of showing |
s | that it's falling apart they have to |
s | move right |
s | um |
s | honestly a lot of that stuff |
s | um you know we had this gray box and |
s | it's like three stories you know it's |
s | three floors and it's it's really cool |
s | it was made painstakingly made by one of |
s | our designers and |
s | um |
s | uh it you know you can't really it |
s | doesn't really work for a current |
s | gameplay so we needed to make something |
s | more catered |
s | so uh |
s | Sam you got any uh |
s | shiny art pieces that you're you've been |
s | working on that you want to talk about |
s | oh yeah like I'm really excited for a |
s | new hotel and |
s | um the new uh sort of |
s | revamp against |
s | which one the polar event |
s | the farm one they're called oh oh yeah |
s | Pizza yeah |
s | um |
s | yeah like I guess I'm gonna start |
s | um working on a new piece for the farm |
s | sort of |
s | just a general look of the outside of |
s | the building |
s | um |
s | well |
s | I'm also kind of working on the interior |
s | of the hotel just working along with one |
s | of our |
s | concept artists pixel you can see on the |
s | right hand side |
s | um he's been really awesome like his |
s | work is amazing |
s | yeah |
s | I'm just really excited to work on all |
s | these new levels |
s | good answer |
s | alrighty and then last but most |
s | certainly not least Steve do you got |
s | anything you wanna |
s | you you want to talk yeah yeah just |
s | retouching on um what I've already |
s | discussed around improvements so the mod |
s | modding scene |
s | um so I've been making engine |
s | modifications to make that better safe |
s | modes and the likes to give a better |
s | experience to our players especially the |
s | people who are |
s | less accustomed to modding but uh um I |
s | guess diving into mod via the Modio |
s | button we're finding a few issues with |
s | with mods not working correctly so just |
s | trying to improve that experience and |
s | then also improve the experience for our |
s | models as well so that's will be what |
s | I'm taking on |
s | very nice |
s | um one more thing I forgot to mention um |
s | the World building animations I wanna uh |
s | I'm excited to get that like working |
s | again because right now it's broken in |
s | this uh the latest update |
s | um the idea is that to have them spawn |
s | in like on uh GameStop |
s | and uh you just see them like |
s | automatically |
s | doing their World building animations on |
s | a loop and um |
s | like once they are loaded they just uh |
s | exit that state and then just go about |
s | the normal like suspect Behavior |
s | that's yeah that's another thing uh |
s | forgot to mention |
s | Ed |
s | sorry I was going to say uh really |
s | upsetting too because we had the suspect |
s | pissing sound arranged everything and |
s | now it's uh |
s | it's like we've got live stream heavy |
s | stream got all of it |
s | oh yes fully let's go let's go is that |
s | guy did Zach had to drink eight bottles |
s | of water and then he was just waiting |
s | around all day |
s | yeah somebody just said in discussion |
s | RTX piss I guess that's what we're |
s | talking about now yeah yeah exactly |
s | we're very trusting person yeah hey man |
s | ray traced audio that's the future so |
s | you never know |
s | um all right actually this is a really |
s | good one |
s | um something more uh more around the |
s | story of Ready or Not |
s | um so far the sub the uh suspects that |
s | we have had have been |
s | uh that can be commonly described as |
s | plainly evil |
s | um you've had terrorists you've had |
s | human traffickers pedophiles all that |
s | stuff but what about |
s | um suspects where |
s | uh their motivation seems a lot more |
s | gray see uh law-abiding citizen or uh |
s | like a vigilante group who |
s | you know is is very much breaking the |
s | law but they're not bad people |
s | yeah no that's a great that's a great |
s | question and honestly that's a big thing |
s | for us right now is that everyone's evil |
s | and there's actually a lot of a lot of |
s | people in the world who are just like |
s | it's almost too too much but you know we |
s | have to do it to serve the gameplay in a |
s | sense but we do have |
s | um |
s | this is the only |
s | um the guest suspects are not like |
s | purely evil yeah arguably just well yeah |
s | I think they're just drug they're uh |
s | traditionally evil they're uh you know |
s | gangers holding up a a uh station that |
s | has already shot people |
s | yeah we have um we have plans though for |
s | some some more gray area kind of stuff |
s | um we've got beachfront which does have |
s | that uh |
s | it's it's almost like I think we want to |
s | branch in a little bit more we kind of |
s | experimented that with Valley um not |
s | with Amos Vol but with the Bolton |
s | security agents and the idea that it's |
s | so bad in the city and it's so awful |
s | everywhere right now and we probably say |
s | in the world like you can't go anywhere |
s | they're kind of Trapped in this like |
s | decaying kind of City this like City |
s | that's falling apart |
s | um it's gotten to that point where you |
s | know there's just like |
s | there's nowhere for them to go and they |
s | need to support their families and |
s | Amazon is paying a very high price and |
s | they just they have they have something |
s | they need to do they have bills to pay |
s | so to speak even if it is selling their |
s | soul and that's not something that we're |
s | you know in this world that people don't |
s | do people absolutely sell themselves to |
s | do things especially for money |
s | um does that make you evil maybe not I |
s | don't know out of necessity sometimes |
s | things just have to be done I think um |
s | Amos Vol is not that person I'm talking |
s | about obviously the agents that work for |
s | him at least the ones that aren't |
s | necessarily aware of what happens |
s | um |
s | you know so I think that's kind of EX |
s | that's kind of walking into that |
s | territory a bit but they're still |
s | essentially letting this thing happen |
s | you could argue they're evil people |
s | um but there are in the game there will |
s | be characters that are almost having to |
s | do this kind of stuff |
s | um out of necessity uh uh you know |
s | because they've got sick family members |
s | um and they can't afford you know |
s | medical care or they |
s | um you know they've never seen this kind |
s | of money like that that some of these |
s | people will be making in this world |
s | would be things that they've probably |
s | never seen before and it kind of changes |
s | their their motivations so there are a |
s | lot of things that we'd be looking at |
s | doing I think in that world and |
s | um and making it more uh tangible |
s | because yeah a lot of the people are |
s | just evil but again |
s | um for the gameplay it can be quite hard |
s | to to rationalize |
s | people not just giving up immediately |
s | when you're faced with like an arm SWAT |
s | team because that's the reality of the |
s | situation but if you play a game like |
s | that play a map like that and they just |
s | give up immediately and you you probably |
s | won't play that again you probably want |
s | to play where it's more difficult so |
s | there are a few ways we want to remedy |
s | that |
s | um be it with a mission type |
s | um such as like a cert uh a um what's it |
s | called warrant service uh Mission type |
s | or something like that potentially |
s | um |
s | you know so maybe that would be the |
s | Avenue we take where there's like a |
s | super easy mode so to speak |
s | um things like that it would probably be |
s | the way to go I think but we'll see |
s | where we'll see where it goes okay I'm |
s | working on a map at the moment |
s | um yeah I wouldn't necessarily say that |
s | the the antagonists are evil but the |
s | moral is is very questionable and I can |
s | definitely see the player having some |
s | kind of like visceral reaction being |
s | like ah do I like yeah they're doing |
s | wrong but like maybe kind of think |
s | they're in the right so yeah like that |
s | would be a fun one to try and address |
s | for sure yeah I mean there are yeah you |
s | could even argue Ridgeline um I mean he |
s | did kill five police officers four |
s | police officers but |
s | um |
s | you know was this all in because he's |
s | you know almost having an episode and he |
s | is a dangerous person but he's not |
s | necessarily it's not necessarily his |
s | fault he's you know he's a |
s | you know it depends on what avenue you |
s | take you know you see a victim of like a |
s | society The Strand him or has he been |
s | experimented on by certain groups what |
s | exactly is it that's happened to this |
s | guy and just how [ __ ] nuts is he and |
s | and why you know so I think that there |
s | are already a few gray area levels that |
s | we have |
s | um but you know that's just because it's |
s | it's more interesting that's having this |
s | guy who's a bad guy and he's just evil |
s | um so yeah |
s | okay |
s | um |
s | all right we're actually having a lot of |
s | questions here kind of skirting around |
s | the same rough subject |
s | um will there ever be any changes to uh |
s | say what a |
s | uh what a five-man SWAT team can bring |
s | out |
s | um like there's uh say |
s | an addition of a taser to your main |
s | inside like transferring it to Tactical |
s | or even eliminating the amount of sort |
s | of like limiting the amount of equipment |
s | that can be brought out like there can |
s | only be one Shield or one battering ram |
s | or one |
s | uh breaking shotguns stuff like that |
s | yeah |
s | yeah there are plans we're gonna get |
s | we're going to move the taser to the |
s | um tactical slot so that won't be a |
s | pistol anymore so you will be able to |
s | have a pistol and the taser |
s | um you won't be able to have a taser and |
s | a taser but you can have a pistol on the |
s | taser so that'll be coming in |
s | um I'm still limiting other things |
s | like forever |
s | yeah |
s | I don't know yeah more than that I think |
s | we need to move it out it's useless here |
s | like people want to have a pistol so |
s | they can defend themselves and they want |
s | to have the taser it's like yes that |
s | makes sense yes thank you very much |
s | a lot of the community right now |
s | yeah no that's definitely something that |
s | we're like oh [ __ ] we need to get around |
s | to that but to the |
s | um overall |
s | the overall idea um behind like you know |
s | limiting the amount of uh tools is |
s | something that yeah no absolutely it |
s | could be done um I haven't really looked |
s | into it too much but I can definitely |
s | see like you know you're having like |
s | everyone with a shield it could be a bit |
s | you know op I guess potentially yeah and |
s | boring you know it's not it's cool for |
s | about five minutes and then it's just |
s | like oh this sucks but also the freedom |
s | of it can also be really cool it really |
s | depends where you want to go with it so |
s | all righty |
s | um what else what else uh I know it has |
s | been mentioned uh before in a few places |
s | but |
s | um it doesn't seem like everybody's |
s | gotten the memo on it |
s | um what is the state of power for maps |
s | like being able to turn them off and |
s | have more applicable use of nods |
s | I'm lucky when I said |
s | uh yeah it's |
s | unfortunately it's kind of the way that |
s | we've built our game |
s | um and it's kind of like a limitation of |
s | unreal foe um more than anything like if |
s | we were to set out from the very |
s | beginning and Implement like these |
s | systems as we were making the maps then |
s | it could be kind of one of those things |
s | but it's such that would that would have |
s | had to have been such a core game |
s | mechanic from the outright |
s | um and then we would have had to build |
s | everything around that for it to work |
s | it's not really one of those things that |
s | you can slide in now I'm not saying it |
s | couldn't be done |
s | um but I also don't really see the point |
s | in for instance introducing it for one |
s | level and then not having that option on |
s | on any of the other levels |
s | um |
s | it yeah it's it's more like a like a |
s | just a limitation |
s | um |
s | maybe maybe wrong too when we all go to |
s | Unreal five and we can have fully |
s | Dynamic lights and you know so forth and |
s | so on |
s | um possibly but I I think realistically |
s | speaking probably not |
s | yeah okay yeah it's some models have |
s | done some map makers have made |
s | um plus you can like go turn off the |
s | breaker you could switch off the breaker |
s | uh for um you know audio we already have |
s | in some levels we shoot our lights uh |
s | which is really really cool and uh yeah |
s | no it's definitely doable |
s | um it's also just one of those things |
s | where it's like yeah if we did it on one |
s | level we realistically should implement |
s | it on all the other levels |
s | um just for that kind of like visual |
s | language just kind of makes sense from a |
s | gameplay perspective |
s | um well that's planned enough so yeah |
s | yeah it's not really like a core |
s | gameplay mechanic that we've lent into |
s | no no so we probably won't end up doing |
s | anything like that um all right we won't |
s | also for AI um they always have to see |
s | in the dark that's just another issue we |
s | have to plan around yeah yeah all of a |
s | sudden you go like well if you're in the |
s | dark you shoot an AI you know nothing |
s | yeah it's |
s | uh it could be really cool but and we |
s | might write we might make something like |
s | that I know because we do have dark and |
s | light spots in the game but it's a lot |
s | easier to gauge that when it's all baked |
s | um when it's done with the bait what do |
s | you do you know |
s | um you would actually uh brought up a |
s | point that I was going to |
s | um modders have so that certain maps are |
s | able to be launched in day and night |
s | mode |
s | um like the map Farm used to be a night |
s | map are we going to be able to have the |
s | option to swap between day or night on |
s | certain Maps |
s | probably not no um and again it's one of |
s | those limitations where like it is |
s | definitely definitely doable but it kind |
s | of means you're then juggling two |
s | identical Maps |
s | um there are systems within unreal for |
s | uh where you you can effectively have |
s | two big scenarios but we've just got too |
s | much going on when it comes to like the |
s | other levels and everything else going |
s | on so I think I think focusing on just |
s | making a really solid the one version of |
s | the level that is like custom tailored |
s | to everything that we want it to be |
s | rather than trying to juggle two |
s | versions of it which is gonna cause more |
s | problems you know obviously light and |
s | Shadow is such a |
s | um a core sort of like not a gameplay |
s | mechanic but it's so important for the |
s | player and the AI to you know be able to |
s | see each other all the time it's hard to |
s | then juggle two versions of that and get |
s | it working right so |
s | um it like Farm started off in day and |
s | then it went tonight and then yeah it |
s | went back today that well that was more |
s | like an art art decision than anything |
s | like we would we were trying to figure |
s | out what |
s | um lighting scenario worked best for the |
s | map and it's not the first like Farm's |
s | not the only one we've done that like |
s | there's definitely been other levels |
s | where you know from an art perspective |
s | we've been like okay you know let's |
s | let's try this map in rain and see what |
s | it looks like and we've got oh yeah this |
s | looks better in rain so we've just kind |
s | of gone with that um agency was like |
s | that as well like it wasn't always kind |
s | of like |
s | um uh like like rainy and overcast it's |
s | it's starting off like very Sunset um at |
s | the very beginning |
s | um in the sale of data center like that |
s | it was it started off as like a like a |
s | like a night map and then we found |
s | bringing that kind of like early morning |
s | um you know Sun just cropping up over |
s | the hills it it gave it more of a unique |
s | feel and that's kind of what I'm trying |
s | to capture when I'm making the |
s | environments is that I want every map to |
s | really feel unique like like |
s | rather than having okay |
s | this once a day and the same ones at |
s | night and it just kind of looks like |
s | another one of the night Maps like I |
s | really want every map to look and feel |
s | unique yeah okay |
s | um all right moving swiftly along |
s | um |
s | oh another another sound question uh |
s | full soundtrack when |
s | all soundtrack when well back in the |
s | early |
s | the finals specifically no [ __ ] vinyl |
s | oh man honestly like it's it's |
s | definitely a lot of considerations to |
s | make |
s | um |
s | I know when I was first doing the |
s | soundtrack A lot of it was literally |
s | just rendered out into one track and |
s | then um depending on what happened it |
s | would kind of like shift to that section |
s | but of course |
s | you have the the issue where like |
s | something like the |
s | um the dealer track for example it |
s | always goes to like one of two uh |
s | different combat themes and you always |
s | like there's a very clear start and end |
s | to it but with the the newer tracks now |
s | it's all rendered out into separate |
s | layers so you can get some crazy stuff |
s | going on with that said it kind of takes |
s | a little bit more time to arrange it so |
s | still thinking about how to to best get |
s | everything into a single track for like |
s | a a very linear listening experience and |
s | get that out to you guys in soundtrack |
s | form but soundtrack when probably closer |
s | to release |
s | yeah most definitely yeah yeah something |
s | we want to do though |
s | okay so it's it's sort of like um what |
s | is it the the big Hub up around uh boom |
s | Eternal soundtrack and Mick Gordon going |
s | no you're not you're not actually |
s | assembling it right stop it it's uh well |
s | yeah that that's a little bit more |
s | complicated because there's some more |
s | like I'm not gonna get into it no I I |
s | don't want to get sued by Becca like |
s | he's gonna come after me but uh let's |
s | make the litigious one nice |
s | but not um honestly void's been they're |
s | very like it's very open-ended so I |
s | don't feel like there's any limitations |
s | when it comes to the soundtrack |
s | um and obviously with that |
s | open-endedness uh making decisions that |
s | it becomes challenging to kind of like |
s | tell myself what's the best way to do |
s | this but at the end of the day closer to |
s | release and if vinyl does come along |
s | vinyl comes along that would be really |
s | exciting |
s | um but yeah I'll run Vine will be sick |
s | yeah |
s | um actually that that leads us into |
s | another question uh on on the note of |
s | the Ron final uh Ron merchwin |
s | concern but literally soon we're looking |
s | at it's hard it's hard getting a good |
s | merch mate we don't want to give you |
s | guys shitty stuff |
s | um but yes it's being planned |
s | um and it's being researched it's been |
s | researched for a couple |
s | I mean a couple months we've we've made |
s | merch like small runs of merch for the |
s | team |
s | um but it's a different thing when it's |
s | like constantly accessible merch or you |
s | do like limited print runs but oh yeah |
s | it depends on how and and what we want |
s | to do I mean like the easiest front |
s | shirt is just a black shirt with the |
s | logo but you want it to be like a nice |
s | material like you know like 100 cotton |
s | or like you know whatever it is that |
s | you're looking for let's get some let's |
s | get some uh what do you call rash guards |
s | made for those who want to do Jiu Jitsu |
s | with their [ __ ] they're ready let's |
s | do it ready at rash guards |
s | um but uh no no I I think um we've got a |
s | few things that that will be dropping |
s | relatively soon which I think would be |
s | really cool |
s | um and nothing to you know nothing too |
s | goofy I don't want that I mean I'm |
s | wearing mine right now by the way but I |
s | can't turn my camera on unfortunately oh |
s | hell since since you've mentioned it I |
s | can talk about it now um we've uh we've |
s | been discussing in the top end a lot of |
s | a lot of interesting stuff |
s | um some people are very heavy talked |
s | about in discussion chat |
s | um a different a different pattern of |
s | mouse pad maybe some matches you know |
s | some some you know some some cool stuff |
s | that you know would actually be useful |
s | in day to day |
s | yeah run mug let's go |
s | yeah for sure the Run might be sick run |
s | mug with a uh Sterling's profile picture |
s | on it no I'm seriously I think you might |
s | have some trouble talking to uh |
s | I think protein would be important if we |
s | uh should post it out enough |
s | yeah maybe maybe not yeah |
s | um no if it's uh yeah that would be cool |
s | I think I think we've got a lot of |
s | things that we could potentially release |
s | it could be a lot of fun |
s | um a lot of cool little shirts patches |
s | are definitely the type of list that |
s | would be really sweet just have like |
s | some velcro patches and [ __ ] yeah |
s | alrighty |
s | um we got we got a lot we got a lot I'm |
s | trying to pass through I'm gonna dip it |
s | about 15 just so you guys know |
s | uh actually 15 minutes is about the end |
s | of our uh end of our lot of time anyway |
s | I think I think two hours is more than |
s | enough for for questions |
s | yeah we could do like a rapid fire at |
s | the end here just kind of like bang off |
s | a bunch of questions yep okay |
s | um |
s | I guess we'll we'll start that in in a |
s | couple minutes use the the exact last 15 |
s | minutes as our rapid fire |
s | um any ideas for uh when campaign mode |
s | or scenarios drop |
s | if they end up dropping in in a form |
s | that would be uh you know common use uh |
s | are there any uh bad guy missions |
s | well sorry uh have you guys thought |
s | about any bad guy missions |
s | put a bag emissions uh either you you |
s | you are wonder you you are mlo you are a |
s | suspect but you're doing it for oh |
s | you're doing it for reasons |
s | um |
s | and uh as to the commander mode which is |
s | what we'll start thinking of it like |
s | that we'll call it commandment |
s | um well like yeah you're going to court |
s | campaign but it's not linear uh well |
s | kind of it's um we don't have any date |
s | set yet um ideally we get it done this |
s | year though uh that would be the plan |
s | for us |
s | um but we'll have to see how much it |
s | takes because it's quite complex you |
s | know you've got to get the sweater done |
s | you've got to get a bunch of other stuff |
s | done |
s | um that's the that's the trick for the |
s | commander mode you have to there's a lot |
s | of moving parts for that |
s | okay |
s | um I guess let's uh let's open that |
s | rapid fire |
s | um will HRT get unique voice lines |
s | oh |
s | um |
s | I was gonna say |
s | um it's I would definitely say Yes um |
s | again we we do have a we've got a |
s | dedicated voice director now and he has |
s | been absolutely essential and getting I |
s | think we got like over 30 new voices or |
s | something for the update and I don't |
s | even know if for Adam anyway and I don't |
s | even know if all of them got to a |
s | character but uh yes definitely I I know |
s | that we want to do HRT voice lines |
s | um and I will kind of Go off into the uh |
s | SWAT AI voices thing too |
s | um because it's a very |
s | I guess there's a lot of kind of coding |
s | and and sound and voice collaboration |
s | here |
s | um I'm not 100 if the new swap voices uh |
s | will get pushed with the Swati update |
s | but we're definitely we definitely want |
s | to get some discussions going to to make |
s | sure that we have a good overview of all |
s | the things we're going to need to to |
s | Future proof voices and to make sure |
s | that |
s | um when you have a command and you give |
s | a command it's not going to be like |
s | a legacy voice that plays or like chem |
s | light out for example I'm like oh yeah |
s | yeah yeah exactly so uh that's that's |
s | probably where I'll leave that answer at |
s | moving on quickly uh More Steam |
s | achievements when |
s | uh when the game is in full release when |
s | we get out of Early Access which is |
s | ideally you know a good time frame yeah |
s | we need to finish the game first yeah |
s | but we will do that we'll have a lot I |
s | think we'll have a lot there's a lot of |
s | cool little things so we want to do some |
s | goofy ones too that you're like you know |
s | this is like secret achievements are |
s | always cool so um yeah definitely got a |
s | few that we got planned oh exactly all |
s | right any uh any plans for randomized |
s | layouts |
s | you mean procedural generation |
s | of a level |
s | no not personable generation more like |
s | um |
s | kind of like how it is when you select |
s | certain |
s | um certain modes and certain sections of |
s | the map are either open or closed but |
s | like |
s | uh when when you select the same mode |
s | like a certain door is now law is now um |
s | like completely inaccessible and you got |
s | to go a different way or you know yeah |
s | so probably not to that degree because |
s | there is well it depends like we could |
s | kind of have it with like just randomly |
s | those are opened or some are locked yeah |
s | like actual like blocking off an area |
s | Zero Hour like yeah like generated |
s | um stuff that they do which is really |
s | cool |
s | um we may not again because our level |
s | has backlighting it can be a bit weird |
s | to have that kind of like floating |
s | object in the middle of the scene and we |
s | generate our levels so you'd have to |
s | yeah yeah I would end up walking into |
s | barricades and stuff but there are some |
s | plans for I saw a question about this |
s | before it was about barricades |
s | um there are we're just talking a bit |
s | about it now and how maybe barricades |
s | could work and then how you circumvent |
s | barricades and how you plan for them and |
s | that would kind of be our way of adding |
s | a bit more |
s | um it's not just a locked door at that |
s | point it's a door you cannot get through |
s | without a specific thing so or you have |
s | to go around it or an AI does it that |
s | gets initially open doors closed all of |
s | a sudden there's a [ __ ] bed in front |
s | of it that kind of stuff |
s | um would be really cool and it could be |
s | something that we look into |
s | um so yes that's probably about as far |
s | as we go with like randomized stuff |
s | um yeah at least for now I I can't |
s | imagine it being very like conducive for |
s | us to like rewrite the way that we |
s | generate AI to do it live |
s | um you don't know with a lot of issues |
s | all right |
s | um any plans for maps that require |
s | multiple squads |
s | um |
s | you mean like |
s | more than five people yeah more than |
s | five people |
s | um because |
s | um it gets into like performance as well |
s | like |
s | just you can't have too many uh |
s | characters in a level |
s | um yeah yeah I I think probably not like |
s | who knows we can try everything no I |
s | think who knows the answer to that one |
s | for now |
s | um yeah that's that's very fair uh |
s | there's some internal debate about the |
s | amount it's purely because of |
s | performance though right now |
s | um so |
s | yeah all right |
s | um that was a good one oh any more plans |
s | for very small Maps like more uh more |
s | Ridgeline or maybe a little bigger |
s | yeah |
s | oh sorry about feeling good no no by all |
s | means that's it you go uh yeah I mean |
s | it's cool yeah like like we we |
s | definitely player with different um |
s | different scales different layouts |
s | different uh you know amounts of flaws |
s | per level like this one thing that I |
s | would say that we we like doing is range |
s | so yeah expect a few smaller Maps expect |
s | a few more mid-sized levels of different |
s | you know different shapes and sizes and |
s | yeah |
s | yep for sure |
s | what will CQB oriented stuff too I mean |
s | there's a lot of the game is so you can |
s | be ready but you know |
s | strictly |
s | um oh this one I've seen the ask a |
s | surprising amount any plans for voice |
s | recognition for a single player in uh |
s | for AI commands |
s | this would be |
s | so at one stage we did have an early |
s | iteration of it I I didn't get to see it |
s | when it was in |
s | um or I don't even know if it was at a |
s | phase where it was too usable but um |
s | it's on the road it's on the like |
s | internal roadmap I I wouldn't say it's a |
s | priority but I would say it would be |
s | pretty interesting to add I know there's |
s | a mod floating around out there that |
s | uses a third-party tool |
s | um |
s | but I again Never Say Never I it's it's |
s | a little vague but it'd be cool to get |
s | it added in so |
s | right so yeah it's gonna be fun for that |
s | yeah |
s | yeah I was gonna say like it's gonna be |
s | that's gonna definitely gonna be like a |
s | collaborative uh coding and sound task |
s | so it's going to be intense |
s | um so despite the size of a lot of the |
s | maps as it stands and how |
s | besides farm and I believe |
s | farm and dealership |
s | um |
s | will there be a option for scope for the |
s | magnified Scopes and say the sa 58 to |
s | actually be able to be magnified instead |
s | of just looking through it at a 1X |
s | so uh well could you just repeat that |
s | again sorry uh basically will you ever |
s | be able to up the magnification on the |
s | lpvo optics oh variables oh |
s | um |
s | yes yes you should be able to otherwise |
s | what's the point |
s | um yeah absolutely yeah the idea of the |
s | LPGA was to be able to make a variable |
s | um kind of like lay the play the zoom |
s | with it |
s | um but honestly that might be a while |
s | till we get to that that might be one of |
s | like the last things we do uh which |
s | means we probably shouldn't have added |
s | the lpvo but you know |
s | um like now but yes yes it'll be yeah |
s | it's kind of cool it's yeah it's |
s | something that we'll we definitely have |
s | planned and something we'd like to do |
s | um in a reasonable amount of time but |
s | yeah we've got other things to do first |
s | I think |
s | um yeah all right |
s | um oh a smaller feature |
s | um any idea any um |
s | any talk about a shoulder tap mechanic |
s | um |
s | um I think Mark uh yeah |
s | like a little thing with the shoulder |
s | tip yeah |
s | yeah it was it was just like super early |
s | days like we were just like talking |
s | about it I think it literally came from |
s | like us talking in the public games call |
s | me we're just like yeah this is really |
s | cool |
s | um and yeah like I did I did a very very |
s | quick like knock-up of what it could |
s | potentially look like because that's the |
s | biggest hurdle is communicating that to |
s | the player in a first person perspective |
s | um and yeah like we've got some ideas |
s | um it's obviously not implemented or |
s | anything like that but it was it was |
s | definitely toyed with |
s | yeah the thing with um shoulder tap is |
s | that it's it's a non-verbal |
s | communication strategy that you use in |
s | like areas where you don't want to alert |
s | people but uh you know it's a video game |
s | and we have this crazy thing called |
s | Discord or you know just any kind of |
s | chatting method where yeah that isn't |
s | required so you end up with this like |
s | feature with a key that you need to |
s | assign or something that all of a sudden |
s | unless it was part of a greater scheme |
s | of like walk up the player hold down use |
s | key you can swap mags with them or |
s | whatever or check their you know if we |
s | were going to go down like a more |
s | in-depth like medical route check you |
s | know things like that |
s | um maybe but uh yeah shoulder tap or |
s | something we've talked about experiments |
s | with it may not see its way and purely |
s | because of the fact that there is this |
s | like it's very Niche but then again so |
s | is like the idea of weapon lowering and |
s | then also like being able to move |
s | quickly like the idea of like just |
s | weapon line being in the game it's quite |
s | Niche uh so um it's not necessarily |
s | something that we wouldn't do but there |
s | there is very little use for it I think |
s | a lot of the time |
s | so so it really depends but it's a good |
s | question because it'd be really cool |
s | especially it was like really diegetic |
s | like you feel like you hear the whole |
s | like like that |
s | maybe inside your screen kind of moves a |
s | little bit you know get the shake I |
s | think it'd be sweet it'd be kind of cool |
s | to see that in gameplay so it might be |
s | something we add as like an Unbound |
s | feature or maybe it's part of a greater |
s | like real like Drop it might be I I see |
s | something like that as if we do it a |
s | Post Release drop because I do think it |
s | would be really cool there's a lot of |
s | little things that would be awesome like |
s | hand signals would be really cool as |
s | well again you could be like oh we have |
s | disco your net hand signal it's like |
s | well what if someone wants to make like |
s | a little machinimo what if someone wants |
s | to like record some cool gameplay or |
s | what if someone just wants to do a |
s | non-verbal run which people have done |
s | shoulder tapping is pretty important for |
s | that I know like um uh control pairs has |
s | done that 68's done that uh you know a |
s | lot of people have done these runs |
s | Karma's done that like these runs were |
s | non-verbal and they're really cool to |
s | see would be accentuated by like a |
s | shoulder tap |
s | um and yeah that would be pretty sweet I |
s | reckon all right |
s | um |
s | any possibility of |
s | um compliant civilian commands uh for |
s | instance uh wow words for example asking |
s | them to come towards you if if they have |
s | already gotten on the gotten on the |
s | ground and are compliant |
s | yeah yeah that's fine yeah that's |
s | planned |
s | probably bundled in with the uh SWAT AI |
s | update when that comes uh yeah |
s | all right and here we are in the last |
s | five minutes |
s | um is there anything that either hasn't |
s | been asked or that you guys would like |
s | to you know have known or just want to |
s | mention before we uh sign off for the |
s | day |
s | um yeah everyone else go ahead before I |
s | guess back I just see a few questions oh |
s | sorry I'm sorry I was gonna see you go |
s | seriously you are my favorite dick but |
s | um |
s | um I did see some a few questions about |
s | unreal five and we don't have any |
s | immediate plans to upgrade to Unreal |
s | five at the moment so we'll be sticking |
s | with 4.27 for the foreseeable future |
s | um |
s | uh again thank you to everyone who stuck |
s | around for this this uh q a because |
s | again without you guys we wouldn't be |
s | doing much right now so the fact that |
s | you've really stuck around and you've |
s | given all the feedback and you've been |
s | playing the game and really enjoying it |
s | that really means a lot to all of us big |
s | time |
s | so |
s | um |
s | I think uh |
s | one of the things that I'm excited for a |
s | setting actually would probably be the |
s | um more World building content so you |
s | guys here around the station you'll see |
s | a lot of like these little voice |
s | recordings there on like they're on |
s | tapes they're on other things in agency |
s | you can actually go and turn off that |
s | radio and start the music playing |
s | um these are our forays into more |
s | content that will be rolled into the |
s | station but also as in like you can |
s | collect almost I won't say anything else |
s | uh things will be rolled into the |
s | station but also things that help expand |
s | the World building Valley was our first |
s | real |
s | growth into that you had |
s | um the notes everywhere |
s | um but we really couldn't have notes on |
s | every single level like that it doesn't |
s | make sense so Ridgeline we introduced |
s | and there's eight I think eight red Zach |
s | or is it seven |
s | um |
s | which I had seven I think seven so seven |
s | voice recordings on Ridgeline with uh |
s | Gerard talking about things and they |
s | actually Point towards the greatest |
s | story that we've written for him |
s | um that the actual content in this world |
s | we try and fit it all into the level |
s | itself |
s | um and then you go around look at |
s | magazines look at other things you might |
s | get some more information look at some |
s | graffiti you might get even some more |
s | you might be able to figure out a fair |
s | chunk of potentially some MLA storyline |
s | um just by being a little bit more |
s | attentive towards Richline and some |
s | other levels and some newspapers and |
s | magazines but the the way that we're |
s | trying to build our world building is to |
s | create that web you know it's it's less |
s | like a linear thread and it's more like |
s | this big kind of like Circle that you |
s | can kind of then go oh this is the whole |
s | world I get it now |
s | um it's like law diving really getting |
s | into that law uh and Mark's Been |
s | instrumental in that sex instrumental on |
s | that so it's um a Dan era a vo um |
s | director so |
s | yeah that's one thing that I really |
s | really love doing as well is like |
s | one of the more fun things about playing |
s | the games obviously is not just the core |
s | gameplay mechanics of reading houses and |
s | stuff like that but it's that |
s | investigation of the scenes and you know |
s | not everything that's happening in the |
s | world is spelled out to you like it's up |
s | to the player to to look and find and |
s | explore and piece it all together |
s | themselves so we're definitely leaning |
s | into a lot more of that storytelling |
s | within the environments within the audio |
s | um with basically whatever we can do to |
s | to make it feel like Las Vegas is a real |
s | lived in place and to take it just past |
s | the levels and really take it into the |
s | broader sense of the the city itself for |
s | sure yeah and that's like that's it's |
s | critical for us to do that and we got |
s | some more like a lot of the new levels |
s | of release need more World building |
s | content and that's the plan for us is to |
s | kind of roll that out in a future update |
s | um and keep it going like that ideally |
s | our updates are a little bit tighter |
s | together as well but with like not as |
s | much content so we'll kind of get keep |
s | people paying attention instead of like |
s | two six months apart updates |
s | um you know it's yeah so there's a few |
s | things that we're doing there which is |
s | it's going to be cool I think it's gonna |
s | be really exciting to have all this kind |
s | of stuff |
s | um I don't have anything to add to that |
s | I was just going to say um going off of |
s | Sterling's comment uh I know some of the |
s | sound too we we actually we're still |
s | fleshing it out for some of the levels |
s | like importer and hospitals so |
s | um that's also being |
s | kind of |
s | just just basically just layering stuff |
s | up making it more immersive when you |
s | walk into the level so we are still |
s | adding sound to existing levels as well |
s | yeah |
s | um I'll touch on two more things and |
s | then I'll be done which is just a a |
s | video that someone posted about which is |
s | really cool one I think it was on the |
s | Reddit it probably was around here as |
s | well |
s | um there was some suggestions to improve |
s | AI you know some of the stuff like oh |
s | they should like civilians stay behind |
s | cover suspects should say behind cover |
s | um things like that we will continue to |
s | look at and work on um sometimes we've |
s | tried obviously a lot of these things we |
s | have actually tried and then we've gone |
s | well that won't work for now because |
s | maybe it takes too long for them to exit |
s | cover and you can just walk up to them |
s | and pop them in the head and then it |
s | necessitates you know a new system to |
s | help them aim at you while you're |
s | getting closer and or start shooting at |
s | you beforehand that we don't have the |
s | time to implement there are a few things |
s | that we will be looking at the World |
s | building that early mentioned is a big |
s | one |
s | um just to make people seem more alive |
s | but a lot of the stuff you won't see you |
s | know you don't like the combat stuff's |
s | pretty critical |
s | um and a lot of it you wouldn't see |
s | otherwise so |
s | we'll keep working on this kind of stuff |
s | um and |
s | uh hopefully you guys enjoy it and um |
s | when modding you know when the SDK is |
s | finished and after we've interfaced with |
s | a lot of modders it'll be really cool to |
s | see what people do with the systems that |
s | have been written |
s | um because it's just so robust and it |
s | can allow for a lot of things and again |
s | it's the whole thing of the community |
s | sometimes will do things better than you |
s | can because they've got the the salt for |
s | their self focus their sole purpose is |
s | to just like I need to I want to make |
s | this AI like a specific guy in the |
s | specific level just like incredibly |
s | unpredictable but you do this one chain |
s | of events and then you can you know get |
s | him to surrender like [ __ ] like that is |
s | is totally doable with the system and |
s | really really cool to see |
s | um so yeah there's a lot of really sweet |
s | stuff that we've got planned and |
s | hopefully we get around to it you know |
s | the idea is to make this is like meant |
s | to be the ultimate shooter the ultimate |
s | tactical shooter and really really drive |
s | that home for players I think |
s | um and there are a lot of great tackle |
s | Shooters out there you know there are a |
s | lot and a lot coming up which are really |
s | cool too I'm excited for a lot of them |
s | um so yeah |
s | um I see a question about uh sniper |
s | teams are we gonna Implement that stuff |
s | um |
s | a similar software where you just like |
s | control a sniper and |
s | we might take control of them we may but |
s | we also may not it may be something that |
s | happens Zoom little ladders and drones |
s | might be something that we add in an |
s | expansion pack or a DLC yeah |
s | um okay and again every time you drop an |
s | expansion it's more tools for modding as |
s | well which was cool so that could also |
s | be an experiment for us yeah |
s | alrighty |
s | so we're at the uh at the end of our uh |
s | two hours it's been a lot of information |
s | a lot of uh cool cool bits shared and a |
s | lot of uh nice interaction with the |
s | community and all the chats but uh |
s | Ollie Sterling Zach Sam Steve and mark |
s | thank you very much for uh for your time |
s | no I gotta send the thanks right back to |
s | you and right back to the community |
s | because you guys keep the dream alive |
s | every day yeah thanks everyone it's a |
s | genuine pleasure being a part of this it |
s | really is |
s | yes thanks guys all right and for those |
s | uh for those waiting for it there will |
s | be a VOD uploaded within the hour uh as |
s | long as nothing goes horribly wrong so |
s | uh yeah we'll have that up for you guys |
s | and I will make an announcement in NDA |
s | when we are good to go |
s | awesome okay I'll Stick Around the chat |
s | as well um if you guys have any |
s | questions I'll probably stick around for |
s | another half an hour hour or so just and |
s | just kind of answer where I can so feel |
s | free to ask away and tag me and whenever |
s | it's up to you yeah same I'll stick |
s | around as well are you sure Zach it's |
s | 1205 p.m on a Sunday not coming for a |
s | beer |
s | it's dinner time here I uh I got it at |
s | the same time Kenny these moose |
s | yeah I'll see you there |
s | no uh yeah honestly though uh yeah |
s | Kaminsky thanks for setting this all up |
s | and um the mud team for you know helping |
s | organize everything and um and |
s | moderating this discussion of course and |
s | everyone here thanks guys for jumping in |
s | and listening 166 people still saying to |
s | hear me ramble is awesome so and and the |
s | rest of this team here like everyone's |
s | like really they like engaging with you |
s | guys a lot it's really cool it's really |
s | cool |
s | um to have a team that enjoys engaging |
s | with the community as much as this team |
s | does uh it can be quite scary sometimes |
s | you know um because it's hard to it's |
s | it's quite a gap to bridge between the |
s | community and the uh the team |
s | um because you can't necessarily see |
s | every single angle of development this |
s | isn't like open development where you |
s | know everyone can come in and chip in |
s | it's not how it works |
s | um you know you can't have 10 000 chefs |
s | you know so to speak so it's it's really |
s | cool to have these little chats with you |
s | guys and get a bit of um you know voice |
s | time so thanks everyone thanks for |
s | jumping in and I hope some of the stuff |
s | we talked about has made you really |
s | excited for what we have in store and um |
s | you know give us some confidence that |
s | we're not just sitting around going ah |
s | [ __ ] it we've done it the game's done |
s | we've we're good you know we we you know |
s | we're ready we're done let's get the |
s | [ __ ] out of here let's just chill on an |
s | island like that's not the plan the plan |
s | is to keep working on ready or not the |
s | plan is to enjoy |
s | um the the relaxed production of like |
s | being not tied to anyone you know not |
s | having to be anyone's like |
s | you know like like answering to anybody |
s | you know you can't even charge your own |
s | destiny at this point and it's really |
s | cool to to be able to have that kind of |
s | ability so yeah and and I think everyone |
s | here it feels the same way when it comes |
s | to even their own roles |
s | you really are free uh void so that's |
s | kind of cool I think for us 100 |
s | absolutely yeah all right awesome |
s | thank you |
s | all right and uh with that good night |
s | everybody |
s | yep good morning two of my Australian |
s | fellas oh folks 10 am here good morning |
s | good morning all right good night from |
s | the UK see ya |
