Currently in the game, running no armor is pointless and immersion breaking to an extent, because your character is wearing absolutely nothing on his chest, other than his shirt. I think a good replacement would be a simple chest rig without any armor plates? At least it would have mag holsters and other utilities modelled.
Other than that, it also serves no purpose currently in the game, but I am sure that will change in the future.
