I had known about Rimworld for a few years, but didn't really know what Rimworld was about. It piqued my curiosity but I didn't pick it up because I never knew if I would click with it, and it never went on a real sale.

I don't remember what the exact trigger was that made me buy it, but I did last September. My fiancée ended our relationship last summer because 2020, I was in lockdown alone now, and I was escaping into games. It wasn't a great place emotionally and I couldn't focus on any particular thing, so I jumped from game to game. Then I started Rimworld and I haven't stopped. It's pretty much the only game I've played for over a year now.

I love my pawns, their colonies and the emergent stories and tragedies every game creates. I was drawn into their worlds and this game got me through a difficult time. It's given me a new perspective on my life. No matter how bad things get, I could always be a hat.

I quit my job at Irrational Games, wrote a book about game dev, but didn't really want to go work for someone else. So I made a bunch of prototypes of games and one of them eventually became RimWorld.

Wait does that count?
