What is Rocket Planet?
Some of you may not know what Rocket Planet actually is. Let me take a second to explain what Rocket Planet is. I do not want this message to come off as an advertisement, so I will not be sharing any invite URLs, screenshots, etc.
If you are a Discord user, you've likely heard of the rising problem with phishing raids. Bot accounts that join servers just to spam their users with messages resembling, "You've won a giveaway!" The goal of these messages is to steal your account and your items. Rocket Planet Guard is the only bot to effectively eliminate this issue in every server that uses it and protects hundreds of thousands of Discord members from falling victim to it. Rocket Planet Guard is used by nearly every large Discord organization and continues to detect and block thousands of attempts every day.
Rocket Planet started as a Discord bot that provides ranks and stats to players across all platforms including Epic Games and Switch. It was, and still is, the only bot to do this. It is also the only bot to offer live tournament schedules, challenges, shops, playlist populations, etc. To date, Rocket Planet is in 7,500+ servers, 1,000,000 users, and has served nearly 2,000,000 requests.
Rocket Planet has grown into a Discord server of nearly 50,000 members. For months, we've been one of the leading places to go for people looking for friends to party up, on-demand voice channels, and trading - including a free middleman service. We've given away hundreds of dollars in events every week.
Rocket Planet has never acted with malice toward Psyonix or Rocket League. Despite finding several severe exploits during development, we have never abused these and often reported them. On the contrary, Rocket Planet is one of the biggest factors in keeping the Discord and Rocket League community safe with our leading phishing and raid detection. Rocket Planet has always aimed to help people with anything related to Rocket League, from ranks for all players to even providing tech support. We have never profited off of what we do.
What is the Problem?
Psyonix is trying to take this away from you.
The Rocket Planet bot competes with, and has been rapidly overthrowing, the Tracker Network (TRN) - an organization affiliated with Psyonix. TRN is only capable of offering ranks to players on PS4, Steam, or Xbox. They do not offer tournaments, shops, or any other information.
If you didn't know, the owner of TRN actually administrates Rocket League's official Discord server. TRN receives special treatment, as they themselves don't use Rocket League's developer API. This is made evident by the fact that the developer API returns 404 (previously 502) when attempting to search players with ranks over Grand Champion. TRN, however, does not have this issue. This leads to the question - where are they getting their data and what kind of special treatment are they receiving?
Psyonix has recently taken an unjustified aggressive stance against Rocket Planet. They've banned all accounts belonging to staff, including mains and accounts not remotely affiliated or directly related to Rocket Planet. They've gone as far as to target the servers hosting Rocket Planet, the server protecting hundreds of thousands of players. They've lied to our providers about Rocket Planet abusing loop-holes in the free-to-play update allowing Rocket Planet to create endless free accounts. We have never used a single free account that would have come as a result of the free-to-play update.
If Psyonix were to succeed in stopping Rocket Planet:
- The servers, and their countless members, will be left vulnerable to phishing attacks and servers will be vulnerable to raids.
- Tournament, shop, challenge, and other information will no longer be available via Discord.
- Ranks searches online will be limited to PS4, Steam, and Xbox, therefore excluding most of their player base.
Psyonix has had an issue with Rocket Planet since its creation and even raised their concerns to me directly as early as September 9th - prior the recent changes to their Terms of Service. They warned me about sharing ranking information to other organizations via API. I heeded these warnings and kept all access to myself. None of the Rocket Planet staff, or our affiliates, have ever had access to Rocket Planet's back-end, our API, or anything that could jeopardize Psyonix or Rocket League. I have never exposed or shared any details behind the Rocket League client running Rocket Planet.
Being a fairly large and public organization, Rocket Planet's communication with Psyonix used to be effortless. However, they've recently ceased all communication stating:
Any further communication can be sent to [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]). Thank you.
However, during my attempts to reach them, I've received nothing but automated responses about hate-speech (even after my requests were elevated) and attempts by them to go behind our backs and have our VPS providers blacklist us.
The Rocket League community has proven that they love Rocket Planet and what we stand for. Psyonix should be embracing it, as we fill a void, for free, that Psyonix has shown no interest in filling. Why are they so aggressive toward Rocket Planet, while supporting mods such as Bakkes?
I find it interesting that Psyonix (now Epic Games), a company who recently intentionally and maliciously broke Apple and Google's Terms of Service, directly costing both Apple and Google money, taking such drastic measures against an harmless and actually beneficial organization.
