That makes no sense. I double-checked with several native speakers to ensure this isn't some nuanced usage.


Edit I also found this clip of different audio I've never heard. It sounds like

やゆかっておめでとう (yayukatte(???) omedetou)
congratulations for (gibberish)

It seems like this is the intended "congratulations" audio, but it is never played at all in online games, only exhibition.


Edit 2 A Japanese friend thinks the gibberish is supposed to be

試合に勝っておめでとう (shiaini katte omedetou)
congratulations on winning the game

I don't hear that at all, though.

Interesting... Well... The deeply sorry vocal quip is supposed to be for when you lose. I will have to look and see if that is repeatable. I personally have never seen that happen.

Do you have specifics to game you were playing... anything you can give us to repeat that result will be useful!
