There are no power ups in Knockout. The basics of the mode require you to Attack, Grab and Block. You can attack by dodging into other players, Grab by holding the L2/LT button and then dodging into another player, or Block by using backward dodge.

The main key is to go fast. The faster you move when you land a hit the the farther they will go flying.

Love the concept but how do you even play? There's no tutorial, and when I try to grab I'm somehow blocking, then grabbing sometimes, then nothing.

This mode is a little different so it can take some getting used to. If you click the "Details" button on the LTM card it has a rundown of the buttons, but here are a few tips:

  • Dodging into another player will Attack. This is indicated by Orange VFX on your car. The faster you are moving the stronger the attack.

  • A backward dodge is always a block. This is indicated by blue shield VFX. Use this to deflect incoming attacks.

  • To grab you have to jump, then hold the Grab button (L2/LT), and then dodge into an opponent. You'll know you've done it right if you see Blue VFX similar to Attack. This one can be tricky to learn at first, but is extremely powerful once you get the hang of it.

How do you grab on pc?

If you mean on Mouse and Keyboard - this can be done by using the Left Shift button. If you'd prefer another button, you can rebind it in the Controls tab of the Settings menu.

The option is called "Grab (KO)"

Bummer. Sorry you're not enjoying it. Got any feedback on what you'd like to see changed?

L2 for grab and backward dodge for block. That's what I was looking for. Thank you.

Anytime. Go get em!

The controls are wonky (at least for me) since my bindings aren't compatible with this game mode and don't want to change them back and forth for a different game mode

The Knockout controls are all rebindable from the Controls tab of the Settings menu. Try changing some of those if you're running into compatibility issues with your control scheme.

I think a tutorial would help - took a couples matches to figure out that just bumping into people doesn’t really do damage I don’t think?

Thanks for the feedback on the tutorial. We've got that on the list of suggestions from the community.

You are correct that just driving into players does not do damage. We actually had an early iteration that did this and it led to everyone just boosting around aimlessly until you made contact with other players, which wasn't very fun after a game or two. So we moved to an Attack based mode.

You have to Attack (dodge) to do damage; and it's all about speed. More speed. Bigger hits.

Why didn’t they put grab on the use item button?

All buttons for Knockout are rebindable. Feel free to jump into the Controls tab of the Settings menu and change them to whatever you prefer!

I'm convinced that LT does nothing for me

This one can be a bit tricky to master, but the easiest way to get the hang of it is to Jump + Hold LT + and then dodge.

Holding LT basically turns your Attack into a Grab.

How is the speed of the person hit determined? It seems to be completely random

The power of the Attack is directly tied to the speed of the Attacking player when making contact. Supersonic speeds will result in Heavy Attacks.

Played 2 games so far, first one was a learning experience, lost my 3 lives pretty fast (2 because myself)

In the 2nd I did a lot better, realized boost was regenerating while on the "ground" and even managed to do an aerial takedown. Still haven't been able to grab anyone but I'm sure that will come eventually.

Gamemode is fun and different, but everyone just leaves as soon as they are out(which I understand) but it still feels kinda weird.

Watching other people playing when I was out did help me.

Stoked to hear that you are enjoying it! Grabbing can be a little tough at first but the easiest way to get the hang of it is to Jump + Hold L2/LT + then dodge into an opponent.

Holding L2/LT overrides your Attack into a Grab. You'll know you do it right when you see the Blue Grab VFX.

The mode was designed to allow players to use any car, while keeping the attack move sets as equal as possible.

Absolutely love it, seemed pretty straight forward, I do agree a tutorial would probably be helpful there's a lot of people that seem to be completely clueless. The mindgames when you really get the hang of it seem really fun!

Glad to hear you are loving the mode so far. We recently released a tips video that players can check out here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Do8QDMXQt4&t

What's the point of the shield if a grab can bypass it?

Seen way too many 1v1s were one person just grabs the other and insta win since instant death gives them guaranteed heavy hits.

The attack move sets are designed after Rock, Paper, Scissors. Each move has a weakness to another. Attack wins over Grab. Grab wins over Block. Block wins over Attack. If another player constantly uses the same move over and over, then this knowledge can be used to your advantage.

Big problem. If playing split screen any players left spectating will get the group kicked for being idle.

Woah! I will pass this to the team. Thanks for letting us know!

Love the idea and appreciate the work that went into the execution.

I hope this becomes a staple extramode, or at least becomes an option for private matches.

I suggest you: - Don’t let boost recharge when driving vertically on the walls of the platforms. Camping is already an issue and it’s hardly been out for two hours.

  • put out a short video or tutorial clarifying how interactions are won, especially in regard to momentum and grab vs grab.

  • gradually shrink the blast zone earlier and throughout the match to avoid folks camping to the 6min+ mark

  • explain formally how momentum, gravity, and aerial control are altered for this mode. I’m seeing a lot of initial frustration with the changes feeling counterintuitive.

  • make team vs team variants.

Keep up the good work!

  • We wanted to get it into player’s hands before making any major changes to the boost recharge: but this is a great suggestion!
  • We’ve seen a lot of feedback on providing a tutorial to better explain interactions and the new gameplay mechanics. It’s on our list as one of the most requested changes. * The Safezone has been getting tuned almost up until release of this mode. The trick is trying to find the balance on this for high and low level players. We will keep this in mind. (I actually agree with this though.)
  • Totally agree. Some further explanation seems to be top of our player’s requests.
  • We’ve explored a number of possible variants for Knockout. If players are enjoying the game mode and want more, we may consider it for the future!

How do you even get assists in this mode?

If you attack a player, that is eventually knocked out by someone else, without them landing on their wheels first.

Love it, thank you. This mode is amazing but this is the only challenge I have not been able to progress with!

For clarity, you do not need to get assists in Knockout for this challenge. Assists for this challenge can be completed in any Online Matches (so you can complete it in Soccar).

Hi there! What platform did you play on that this happened?

If you're on PC, could you please submit a log? https://support.rocketleague.com/hc/en-us/articles/360023645894-How-Do-I-Gather-Logs-for-Rocket-League-

From the moment the gamemode was anounced i was hyped up! Ive loved fighting games and seeing rocket league make a gamemode inspired by my favorite genre immediately made me wanna play it on release. And i gotta say, I absolutely love it.

From the trinity of block attack and grab i gotta say that grab is a little overtuned. I keep grabbing people and throwing them into the ground of the stage which allows for almost no recovery. And based on how the other 2 options dont kill that easily it is most likely the best option.

At first the explanation wasnt that clear. (I play rocket league on keyboard) and the explanation for grab only said controller inputs. So it would be helpful to acknowledge us keyboard players! Trough trial and error i found out that it was left shift that was the right input.

Other than that i love the feel of this gamemode from hitting someone offstage and edgegaurding their attempt at getting back feels so satisfying and correctly geussing wich attack the opponent uses and sending them flying is amazing. Amazing job by the dev team!

Thanks for playing and thank you for the thoughtful feedback. We've got those noted to discuss. Glad you found some enjoyment in the edge guard! I love those myself.

Love the mode. After I learned how to grab it got fun. There's a decent amount of depth to the mode once you get past the initial shock factor of this all new mode. Will be interesting to see how it plays in a day or 3 as the playerbase grasps things better

Glad your enjoying Knockout! I myself am in fear of just how much better everyone is going to get over me. =)

HOW DO YOU DEFEND AGAINST GRAB??? It seems like grab is overpowered and its just not fun when it ends up as the only thing you should use ever because nothing beats it.

And no, attack does not beat it because I dodge into opponents and they end up grabbing me every time. It started as fun until every match there's one player who always grabs everyone and it works for them over anything else all the time.

Hey there!

Attack is the hard counter for the Grab. If you are Attacking and your opponent is grabbing and you are both accurately aiming at your target. The Attack will always beat a grab.

Honestly appreciate you coming to provide feedback. We've seen the Grab mechanic start to become very popular with some players in the community. The game mode is still very new so we expect new metas to develop but we are monitoring how play evolves and noting anything that seems out of balance.

Can we show proper bindings and not a generic LT for grab? I'm on kbm and never used a controller but it still shows that as my grab option and I had to basically click all my bindings for something to work.

That's great feedback and I totally agree. We added those button prompts to the Details screen just before shipping the mode in an attempt to help as many players as possible with understanding the new controls. Unfortunately, that screen did not have native support for showing bindings based on your input device if on Mouse and Keyboard. So we had to make the hard decision to ship it with just the shoulder buttons in the hopes that we could help as many players as possible understand the controls.
