Let me try to clear up some of the confusion for you. I will attempt to be thorough, so please forgive me if I go over information you already know.

The Basics

Each season is comprised of 2 Qualifiers; think of these 2 halves of the regular season. Each Qualifier is comprised on 3 parts: Online Open, Group Stage, Online Final.

 

• Online Open - Huge open elimination tournament where any team (within the specified regions) with a full roster of 3-5 players may compete for a shot at the Group Stage.

 

• Group Stage - The top 8 teams from the Online Open enter Groups and play round-robin format, where they are awarded standings based on their Win/Loss. At the end of Groups teams in 5-8 place are awarded points according to the table below.

 

• Online Final - The top 4 teams after groups advance to the Online Final, in which they compete to find their final standings for the Qualifier. This means a team that came into the Online Final in the 4th seed could win the Online Final and take 1st place in the entire Qualifier. At the end of this stage, each of the top 4 teams are awarded points based on the chart below.

 

At the end of the two Qualifiers, the top 4 teams based on points awarded in the Qualifiers are invited to play in the Live International Finals (think of this as the Knockout Round in Association Football, or the Playoffs in American Football). The Live International Finals is a LAN event held at a designated location, this season it takes place on August 6-7 in Los Angeles, CA.

 

Points

Points awarded to teams based on their performance in the Group Stage and Online Finals of each Qualifiers (More info above). Note: Points are weighted more heavily toward Qualifier 2.
