I am uniquely unable to hit the ball to save my life. I struggle to capitalize on passes, hit a ball that's lofted gently at our goals, or god forbid make a shot. Something about how the ball moves and how flicks and stuff work means that more often than not I will just wizz past the ball like a drunken blind man. If I play the ball I fail my team.
BUT I am great at demos. For some reason I can't hit a giant F****** bouncy ball but I can torpedo the guy chasing after it no problem. I'd say I average at least 8 demos per match, but if I'm on my game I can get around 15 (PR is 21). And all of that doesn't even account for me just knocking people and ramming them out of position.
I like to think of myself as the Enforcer. If you're waiting for the ball to get centered, you're demo'd. If you're attempting to gather boost, you're demo'd. When my friends shout out "They've got a goalie" I fix that. And god help you if you demo one of my teammates, cause I normally return the favor within 10-15 seconds.
I also feel that my unsung contribution is that I get in other teams heads! After a number of demos I can watch it affect the way they play. Suddenly, when my (intentionally) loud obnoxious boost sound comes near I watch them jump or weave out of position messing up a follow up. They stop focusing entirely on scoring and instead devote effort to not blowing up. The best ones are when they abandon the ball entirely to chase me down trying to give me a taste of my own medicine!
My reason for asking this is that its come to my attention that others often view this as toxic. I don't feel like it is because I'm just contributing in a different way. I don't trash talk unless someone else starts it and I always give a "Good Shot" and "What a Save" when anyone does well, but I'm not sure if that's enough.
What I'm getting to is, I just want to know once and for all, Am I the Asshole?
TL;DR I focus on demos, averaging over 8 a match, because I'm garbage at most other things. Does this make me toxic?
