It's almost a guarantee that nothing is going to change Psyonix from dropping support for Linux & Mac OS in March. But the fight will go on well beyond March.

That's because the real fight at hand is simply to have the community's voice heard.

If we, the Rocket League community, let Psyonix & Epic make anti-customer decisions like this and spit in our faces and we don't even put up a fight, who knows how they'll screw over the community next without thinking twice?

Will they go against their 'trusty' word and 'players first' reputation to drop support for Steam too? Will they start putting parts of the game like Free Play behind paywalls or something? (Ok, that admittedly sounds a bit far-fetched, but is it... really?)

We need to make it abundantly clear to Psyonix that this is not OK. This is as far from OK as it gets. They cannot ignore, disrespect and abandon parts of the community and expect to continue receiving our support. We should continue posting here, continue @'ing on socials and boycott item shop purchases until we get a legitimate, honest explanation for this decision. Miss me with that "upgrading to new technologies" cop-out statement, that's absolute BS and they know it.

We've all paid for this product. Many of us have built communities and made friends in Rocket League. They don't realize how much it hurts to know that after 3 years and 2.5k hours of loving this game to death that I'll probably have to say goodbye to some of my friends for good. To never be able to play in the United Rogue league again (hey y'all, it's me, lionturtle) and hang out in the discord after games. To never be able to queue up with my buddies a few states over and hear about what's going on in Kentucky over a game of ball. To now have zero motivation to almost cry watching any more jstn moments at LANs or really care at all about RLCS.

Abandoning your customers isn't just a business move. This choice will have harmful consequences to the community. A community of real people, who just want to play the game they paid for along with their friends and enjoy escaping whatever is going on their life for a few blissful moments.

Psyonix and Epic will make their own decisions, they own the game after all- but just because we may not win this fight doesn't mean that I'm going to take this quietly. And for the benefit of the entire Rocket League community, Linux/Mac player or not, you shouldn't either.

Epic and Psyonix can go drop themselves. Rocket League stand up <3

Source for figure:

Linux/OSX player count determined via: [a] Steamspy reports between 10 - 20 million Steam owners and [b] Steam itself reports ~2.5% and ~0.7% of steam users are on OSX and Linux, respectively. Keep in mind that since Steam offers many Windows-only games and Rocket League was promoted and sold as a premier title for Steam Machines and Linux, there are probably a higher percentage of Linux owners for Rocket League than average. Many thanks to /u/CitricBase for his/her help in finding and understanding this data!
