Hi all,

Welcome to another instalment of Feedback Friday!

The r/RocketLeague moderator team has teamed up with Psyonix to gather valuable feedback from the community, and we’ll be doing these threads every other Friday.

This week, we’d like to get your thoughts and opinions on Challenges!

What are Challenges?Challenges are in-game tasks players can complete to earn rewards such as XP and Item drops. Challenges often require players to use specific Quick Chats, play certain Limited Time Modes, or complete other tasks such as scoring Goals, getting assists, and winning Matches. The game currently offers Weekly, Seasonal, and Event Challenges.

Let us know your thoughts on challenges in Rocket League by commenting in this thread and please remember to keep your comments on the subject matter.

Try to share constructive feedback only, explain specifically what you like or dislike about Challenges, what could be done better, and what you would want to see in the future.

More variation. Daily challenges also along with weekly challenges, I usually finish the weekly challenges in under an hour

More variation.

What kind of variation are you looking for? What are the kind of challenges that you'd like to see?

Challenges should have some amount of skill to it, but also not be too nuts. Trying new modes is good - if the mode is actually different. Challenges should aim for weekly player retention by keeping us playing a little, but keep in mind it's unhealthy to play too much. Keeping it so all the challenges can done in 2-4 hours of play should be the target. A lot of kids have limited screen time.

  • Making us say something isn't really helpful - unless there's a new quick chat and you're trying to push us to modifying our settings
  • 1100 points in a game is a bear to do
  • 9000 points in a week isn't bad
  • Pushing people to play some Extra Game mode is good for getting us to try new modes because people might like it
    • Not requiring more than 3-5 matches is good in case they dislike the mode
  • Pushing people to play casual, which is just the same game mode without rank, is not great
    • Pushing us to Chaos is better than just unranked
  • Pushing people to play ranked can introduce casuals to the benefits of ranked, which is actually better than doing the reverse
  • Pushing us to do a similar challenge for Premium as Free can actually be good
    • 10 games vs 10 wins does require a bit more work - twice as many games on average
  • If challenges are too easy, there isn't anything pushing us to keep playing that week
    • Some ill-chosen challenge weeks take maybe 30 minutes.
  • Also, it might be nice for some challenges to be doable outside online modes
    • Complete [x] training or score 20 goals in freeplay might encourage training
      • One reason I never train is I can't grind the Rocket Pass outside matches
      • Edit: Complete doesn't mean successfully make all shots/saves (since lower ranks might not be capable of it), but at least get people to try it
      • Edit: Also, it might be good if there was a training pack of the week if there's a challenge for training - maybe it has one or two shots per rank so everyone gets at least some shots aimed at their skill level
      • Edit: I also know that something like this goes against the principle of challenges offering some time to complete/challenge, but you can go around a guideline if there's good enough reason - like guiding players to training modes

Hey Girhen, thanks for the feedback!

I'm glad to say that you are spot on with many of these suggestions. Great call on keeping Challenges accessible to all players and not just the ones with more screen time.

We're thinking about Challenges the same way!
