Let me start this off by saying I know people have complained about server problems since the beginning of this game. Those complaints may or may not have been correctly warranted as a lot of problems tended to be on the end user. However, there has been actual confirmations of real problems in the past. In the end, people complain about server performance whether it is their fault or not.
With that said, let us bring everything to today, or the past few days. I have been playing Rocket League a decent amount over the short 4th of July holiday, and I noticed I would get what seemed to be random lag. At the time, I thought it was only me or my connection (ISP's at fault). My ping would shoot up to over 200ms for about 10 seconds then go back to normal. At the very most, this would happen maybe a few times in a match, but sometimes only once. LIke I said earlier, it was seemingly random.
A couple days go past and it still is happening, so I try different server locations. As someone who live in US Central and there are no dedicated servers in this region, USE and USW aren't too far from each other in regards to latency for me. I normally queue in USE as it does have the lower latency consistently, but since I had problems with lag I wanted to try USW. Same issues still happened. I reset my computer, modem, router, checked with ISP for any oddities and everything seemed fine.
A bit frustrated with the quality of gameplay, I wanted to still play so I just stuck to unranked as there are no penalties. I started seeing others having random bad lag as well in the games I was playing. After a few games of seeing all kinds of people having the same issues, I started asking in chat if they also been experiencing problems the past couple of days. They all agreed and we just kept playing.
While waiting for some friends and not really wanting to play much because of the lag issues, I have been more active in watching streams of pros and high ranked players. Now this is where everything gets interesting: Every stream that I had watch (and the one I am currently watching "Sotus") have ALL EXPERIENCED the same exact type of lag. Last night I was watching Dappur's stream and he was doing 6 mans and actually got off and stopped streaming out of the frustration of lag. I switched over to AlphaKep's stream as he was an opponent of Dappur. Guess what? He was also getting that same lag. Today, as I briefly mentioned earlier, I am currently watching Sotus' stream and he is getting this random lag.
I've been getting on Reddit looking more specifically about these random server issues and lag. Lo and behold, the threads are starting to pop up asking what is going on with the servers. I have replied to a few, but as always threads like this die out fast. I am frustrated, but I didn't want to make another thread lashing out and complaining. This thread is more to draw attention to the issue and hopefully we can get some answers. I am confident I know the problem doesn't lie solely with me or my connection. Top pros and streamers are also experiencing terrible server performance and are just as frustrated. So, Psyonix, can you shed a little light into this random lag and server performance issue that is growing daily since the last update?
EDIT: I'm seeing this lag problem more and more on streams. I think I might just start clipping to show..
