Just wanted to report that I've FINALLY fixed the hitching & stuttering I've been dealing with since I started playing the game over a year ago.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, I captured a video of it happening here:
It happens in the gunfight about 10 seconds in.
I went frame-by-frame through that video. I go from about 144FPS to 13FPS in a split second and then back up to 144ish.
This has been happening the WHOLE time I've been playing Rogue Company, and in every match.
FOR SOME REASON THIS GAME doesn't like low latency mode on at all.
Screenshot of low latency dropdown here: https://www.nvidia.com/content/dam/en-zz/Solutions/geforce/news/gamescom-2019-geforce-game-ready-driver/gamescom-2019-geforce-game-ready-driver-ultra-low-latency-nvcpl-option-alt-850px.png
It has long been encouraged to turn low latency mode to ON for competitive shooters on PC. What this does is set the maximum prerendered frames to "one" so that the GPU and CPU are in sync when it comes to buffered frames, which results in lower input latency.
This has basically been gospel since the early days of CS GO, if not earlier.
Every other FPS game I play has zero issues with this setting set to "On". Generally people will just tell you to not put it to "Ultra."
But even just having it set to "On" causes MASSIVE hitching in Rogue Company.
So you can either set it to "Off" globally, or do what I did and go to "Program Settings" and add the Rogue Company exe file and set the 3D settings with Low Latency mode off ONLY for RC.
I just played about 5 hours of matches and didn't hitch even once, which is crazy to me. I had minor frame dips here and there, but absolutely no plummeting to below 20 FPS. I can play soooo much better.
I've seen threads pop up for AGES intermittently on this forum where people are asking for help with hitching. Well this might very well be the root cause of it (the other one being mouse polling rate being too high - RC seems to only play nicely with polling rate at 1000 or below).
Anyway, just wanted to let you guys know and help whoever I can.
Cheers.
