[2020] Can’t play with my friend

Hello I’m on Xbox one. My friend and I can’t see the invites we send each other in game and it won’t let us even send an invite through the party. Here’s the kicker, we’ll start our search times at the same. We’ll then, at the very same time, find a game but then it will just kick us both to home screen at the same time even when searching separately. Any solutions? Also we cant seem to find a game in general by ourselves. Do I need to change servers/region? Any answers? Thanks
