(this is towards rsguys live stream with sponge. I am not targetting any players, simply discussing what was said and my thoughts).
----- Drop rates -----
Sponge talks about the drop rates @ gwd3. He says that He thinks the drop rates are too low and you shouldnt spend 50-100 hours for a piece and that it "feels bad". RSguy even says "100-200 hours". Hey, stop exaggerating please, no weapon takes that long to get (kerapac/zuk piece takes 25 hours to get with average kill times). Stop making up numbers for the sake of the argument to guilt trip employees. Sponge also talks about how people going for log shouldnt have to spend "10 years" to get a log (why do you exaggerate, it doesnt help). Uhh... no one is telling them to do it. Aren't logs supposed to be achievements instead of something everyone does? Should people complete logs if they care to achieve it or like the content? Let's make it common so people finish logs faster? Leave the balancing to the people in charge of it. I really hope sponge doesnt influence and make all these bad things happen. Sponge wants the "feel good" moment to happen more often but doesnt realize it wont be the same due to being less value and experiecing it so much it's whatever. This has happened to many games that have led to its downfall. You try to make these special moments occur more, thus making them not special. Speaking out of emotion rather than reason. What if I went and got my favorite food to eat everyday instead of every month? It wouldn't be special nor would I care about it anymore.
Sponge also funnily enough said on the official runescape stream "I dont think enough people own the t95 sword, take that as you will". why does he put his personal opinion of the drops being too rare everywhere? I dont think its healthy to be saying this sh*t publicly all the time. It day 1, and hes saying there arent enough? wtf? people are still learning the boss bro.
First off, they are t95's. They should be rare. The bosses aren't even hard, so do you want easy bosses dropping t95 and devaluing lesser content for lower tier players? You get small drops such as codices alchs/ and other loot which helps fund the grind and keep motivation up. And when you do get the big drop, it's a huge chunk of change. I personally farmed my own t95 2h and was gonn farm a 2nd. Now im hesisitent to farm a 2nd because whats the point if its 2x easier potentially in the future? (it shouldnt be). Don't feel bad for me if you buff the drop rate? I'd quit. Why the hell did I bother doing the content early? Why are you punishing players for doing content early (first weeks of release) -
Sponge before this talked about how he was 5mil off buying a 4bil staff of armadyl then it went to the moon. It sounds like he is a bit salty over that and just wants to tank the price of t95s by making them more common in gwd3 for his own gain. (putting 2 and 2 together). He admits this later on shortly after in a semi-jokingly but serious way when talking about exchanging staff pieces for 10mil coins to a trader to make the price go down. A jmods personal opinion/expeirnece shouldnt change the game and ruin it for others without any thought. This is very dangerous to do. Also, for people like me who grinded the boss for log, or for gp, or have pieces, you just annoy because you try to please the crowd of people who apparently want common t95s. IF the price is a problem, make pieces able to be exchanged for 10mil coins or something so specific pieces aren't manip'd. Sponge even said this on the stream (prob got it from me). Ramen/ryan then said why not just make it drop in 1 item then? Tbh, idk why not. It should prob just drop in 1 item, but only if over max cash trades were fix'd. So imo best solution is just exchanging them for other pieces.
Sponge then said "there isnt any reason a specific piece should be worth more than others". Well there is. What if a player went and did zuk, got an obsidian blade, and never went back? He never finished the sword, so if 10 people finished the sword, there is an extra piece. We can't ever know the exact amount of each piece in-game but it's likely varies day by day. Again, best solution is just make an exchange, good gold sink imo.
Why are we pretending the drop rate is too rare? The rate of t95s, specificly the armadyl staff and zuk sword pieces are only slightly higher than it takes to get an eldritch from ed3.
ED3 3 runs an hour takes 18+ hours to get a single piece. No 1 complained. Kerapac staff piece 10 solos an hour takes 25 hours for a piece, assuming 1/250 drop rate (drop rate might be 1/200 but lets be safe here). Zuk drop rate is likely mirror'd to kerapac being a 1/50. 2 runs an hour = 25 hours to get a staff piece. Same as kerapac. If you are good though, you can do 12-14 + kerapac solos an hour and 3 zuk runs an hour. --
(I got this drop rate based on my own kills + what others have said about their drop rates and I look at the kills required for prestige pet. Kerapac is 1000 kills, so you should get 4 pieces during this time. Zuk is 200 kills, so to match kerapac, it should be 1/50. It might even be a 1/40 or somewhere inbetween, especially for perfect runs.
Oh, and if we want to be even more extreme. Solak is a 1/100 for a unique. 1/200 for a bow. So it takes 30+ hours to get a single bow. Longer than any t95 could take. Fun fact, it took 3374 kills for my duo to get her 1st bow for log. But guess what! We did it and realized its rng, its just a game, and you dont need to do it if you dont want to.
If you made t95s more common, then people will complain t92s are too rare. its an endless cycle. AGain, there is a reason there is a balance team for this.
Sponge even aknowledges that there is a team that does this data and makes the drop rates. They seem to be doing a great job, considering the drop rate of zuk and kerapacs pieces are the same in terms of time to get. Sponge should stop being so emotional over the game trying to influence the company to do a change (making the drop rates more common) and let things be, as it isn't his job. He also shouldn't even be talking about this stuff on a stream, especially some content creators stream.
To me, this is 100% inline of what a t95 weapon drop rate should be for pieces. There is no issue. We are just in the generation of gamers where people just want want want instead of understanding the economy and health for the game. End of the day, people don't actually care about the drop rates and will happily play. Players WILL try at any point to make jmods feel bad so they nerf/adjust content to make their goals easier.
People in the chat of that stream were mostly saying "t95 should be rare". The people complaining are those who did 500 kills and didnt get 2 staff pieces on drop rate and dont understand rng. oh and sponges comment tanked the sword from 10bil to 5bil (making them more common). ty. Sponge talking about wanting to keep things cheap but doesnt think about people who farm content and keep things and get punished for keeping things. Guess I should have sold my sword I farmed in 3 days btw for 10bil and bought it for 5bil the next day when in reality it shouldnt have crashed to 5bil if sponge didnt say anything or simply not do anything to the drop rates he isnt in charge of.
RSguy talks about how after ed2 drop rates got rarer but things have been rare before that. AoD praesuls, telos weapons (b4 2449 farming) were all rare. t92s were rare in their own right, and even rarer than t95s (solak bows). T95 is pretty fair given the overall ease of the bosses. RS guys talks about t95s being "pricey". Well no duh. They are brand new, not even 6 months old, and are in high demand due to being the newest/best thing in-game. Look at leng swords. only 1.8bil for dual wield. Compare that to Fractured staff of armadyl or zuk sword. Just no uses melee really and leng swords arent that good rn (no meta) and fractured staff is either balanced or mega busted depending on rng (id rather it be consistent as the high end is silly imo). Zuk sword is expensive because it's brand new (not even 2 weeks old, this stream was during the 1st few days of the boss). No one really melees so it might go down but it is really good, and because people might not do zuk as much as other bosses (quite hard) it might be pricey. People who like challenges though will grind it out.
Sponge talks about how people afking spritiual warriors cant make 4bil+ for a t95 weapon. idk what to say. is that the game we want to have? its just weird. Also talks about how 4 days after release is "too far" for forcing triple jads to be done via prayer flicking with 0 safe spots. kerapac released 3+ months i think its too far gone to change drop rates drasticly and ruin balance and for people who already achieved things (such as logs).
BONUS: rs guy talks about arch glacor and not feeling rewarding to push. Idk how more dark nilas and getting 10-30mil + a kill isnt rewarding. I personally dislike 2449 telos and think its bad design. Original dev didnt work there anymore when it was being camped and it was meant to just be a gesture of "good job for doing this after dying hundreds of times" not "heres an orb every 2 hours". It's a streak boss, keep it as is. Change it to camp 2449 enrage and you hurt the boss for others.
BONUS 2: A lot of people were also complaining about quiver fragments. It was day 3, lol. Also you get a lot of chests. You didn't get bis quiver slot QoL item within 3 days so its too rare? No.
------ macros -------
We have sponge saying he wants macros because combat is complicated and need to do "a billion" inputs a cycle. massive exaggeration. We then have RSguy and sponge saying "i dont have an issue doing 14 switches in my inventory" but pointing out it's "silly". They then talk down on the idea of not being allowed to gain benefits of items if you swap to them because it would limit players and "they wouldnt like that".
I actually would like that. Would make the game a lot more simple and easier to understand and not make the high end so high so the low-mid-high end are more closely together instead of the high end being 100 miles apart from the middle. Instead, the whole time they are constantly talking about the "top players" and seem to not understand how to make the game fun for all players. Catering to elitists/macro users instead of the game as a whole.
One thing sponge did say that is correct is just make perm unlocks for things, such as ring of vigour/lotd. Can even do planted feet/flanking (just have it in your inventory for the perk to work, will use the weapons perks if flanking though) It's about making the game easier to use for all players, and not designing the game around people who buy logitech mouses for macros.
Funny enough, sponge even said if he had a choice, he'd make it 1 action bar. EoC WAS one action bar. We then got more after that (I forget when tbh I dont think I was playing). It'd odd to say this, where you want the game to be simple with one action bar, which can be a good thing, but then you say you want macros. Why would you need macros if you had 1 action bar and/or 1 set of equipment with little switches or none?
It's strange talking about game integrity wanting to ban people who sell titles and such in rs3 but there is no integrity for macros. its just bias. RSguy complains about macros as he doesnt use them and said it sucks when people do 1 click for bladed dive meanwhile he has to do 3. how about we enforce anti-macros then? People macro and brag about records. isnt this an integrity issue?
Also bonus, sponge talks about how not all styles should be good @ bosses and different styles should be good at different bosses. Then why was raksha melee affinity increased? Melee should have just simply not been good there or you required statius (good design). why was kerapac nerf'd because of melee? It's just weird hearing this but then we are doing the opposite.
I actually play pretty simply. Defender camp a lot, put on armadyl staff for dps time. Game is as simple as you make it, and its fun that way. We shouldnt do macros just because people macro when its against the rules and instead advocate for a simplier and more streamlined system instead of requesting players to macro to gain dps. It isnt part of runescapes ID.
tldr; drop rates are fine and balanced, dont change anything. guy thinks hes adam fenix. if you care about game integrity, you should take care of macros or do nothing at all. you should make the game simplier by making perm unlocks such as vigour/lotd/planted feet/flanking.
people just want to chill out and have fun, not worry about balance 24/7 in an mmo. this isnt a moba where we need 1% ability damage nerf to needle strike or something and .2% less crit from greater conc. Leave things as is after release unless quickly changed and communicated properly. Drop rates are a done deal, move on, they are fine and you would only punish players who did the content.
Really hope this game doesn't go down hill, as I've tried and tried to talk and I've actually went away from this sub for like a month+. But then I go into social media and I see all these crazy discussions being suggested/talked about that weren't ever talked about so openly. Hope no KNEE Jerk reactions are done.
ready to quit if any of these changes enter the game. someone who isnt in the department shouldnt have influence/be nagging the department to change things because of emotional reasons. first i ripped 800 t3 elder troves and now all the items i farmed myself mightve been a complete waste of time and i was better off waiting because the drops would be more common. think about the players who already did the content. RESPECT THEM
