TLDR: Disabling de-ironing 5+ years ago should not be something that is completely impossible to reverse, especially given the significant changes made to the game in that time.
Simply put, endgame PVM upkeep on Ironman accounts has continually been trending in a negative way for years. Changes have been made to the game mode that allow Irons to PVM with mains. Uniques from bosses have continually gotten more absurd to acquire. With the recent announcement of the game design philosophy change in favor or putting a greater importance on gathering & artisan skills, these trends show no change of reversing in any meaningful way.
Additionally, some of us (myself included), originally disabled de-ironing as an account security precaution and at a very different point in our lives.
As someone who created my Ironman on release and hasn't played a main since then, I'm now in a position where I no longer have the desire or time to upkeep an Ironman, but also zero desire to resurrect a main account from 2012 and redo things like trimmed comp, mqc, golden reaper, billions of exp, etc.
When I brought this concern to Jagex Support, I was told to go create a new account. I mean, sure, I technically did make my own bed here, and I acknowledge that. But that's still a remarkably tone-deaf response to the issues I outlined above.
My proposal is to either A) let Ironman accounts go through support to re-enable the option to de-iron or B) possibly reset Mr. Ex's options on some time interval (say 5 years?). While I understand the need to preserve account security & respect decisions made by the player, I also think it's unreasonable for there to be no recourse for players that have invested years of their time into the game.
