The Raptor's persona remains He/Him any time we refer to them. They still present themselves this way in-game to everyone but you.

We do this partly for spoilers, partly because it's the correct reference for the Raptor given their true identity is secret to all others.

I appreciate this is probably bait, but I don't see an inconsistency.

Regardless of who's actually behind the Raptor's mask, the identity of the Raptor persona is still male and they're still going to carry on maintaining that facade. It always has and still does serve a useful purpose to them. All that's changed is that SPOILER you know the Raptor's secret identity, and you agree in the quest to keep that secret SPOILER.

I appreciate it was hard to tell with the posture of the angry walk the Raptor had in some places last week, but his armour uses the male player model silhouette. It's unfortunate that we couldn't make the Raptor as wide as they used to be, in order to move over to using human player animations for them, but the Raptor's always been and will continue to be a masculine persona.

“Don’t see an inconsistency”. Are you sure? The fact you literally had to go and change the look of the raptor to look female is the inconsistency. If you just kept the look and said it was a female in there that’s 100% believable. Why change the look of the armor to female if you still want the raptor persona to be male 🤦 It’s not bait I just want an actual answer and not a lazy excuse which is actually just showing this idea was thought of 2 weeks before this quest line started.

That’s like say Batman’s persona is male looks 100% now like cat women (the armor) but expecting people to believe it’s a male inside, but the person inside is actually a women. Even if that’s what you wanted to do then you should have actually done this from the start of creating raptor…the complete 180 from the armor design is clearly just, oh why not just make this a women now. Okay then why change the armor, she could have fit in the armor as a women and made complete sense. There’s plenty of examples of this exact reveal in movies, shows, and anime. I’m sorry but others and I just can’t accept such a bad excuse that doesn’t make sense with what you’re all saying vs what you did.

It looks like I said a similar thing up above, but I can only assure you the updated character model uses male player armour, not female player armour, and is intended to look masculine. (Albeit due to technical limitations described below, unfortunately nowhere near as hench as the Raptor used to look, in order to fit within the animation rigging frame of contemporary male human characters.)

I'll see if I can upload a screenshot of the concepted Raptor armour for assurance, but in the meantime, here's an example of a female character within the male armour silhouette: https://runescape.wiki/w/Waveworn_garb#/media/File:Waveworn_garb_silhouette.png

(The Raptor's armour presumably has a lot of padding.)

Hopefully that it's a human male is more apparent with the idle animation we were able to get from an animator during the week of Dead and Buried's release, as the completion of Necromancy had freed them up.

Undisputably, conforming the armour to a human player shape is much slimmer than the Raptor's bespoke model was before.

It would've been ideal to maintain a closer silhouette to the Raptor's previous look.

Unfortunately the original Raptor model had a very limited set of usable animations, and in order to practically continue using the character (the Raptor was picked as a principle character for the Fort Forinthry storyline), we needed to adapt him to a form that can use the vast library of human animations.

This was the case for each of the signature heroes. They were created as bespoke assets prior to the Evolution of Combat brought with it a new human avatar and the combat ability set.

We had to go through a similar process for Ariane, Xenia and Sir Owen when they were used more frequently.

The difference in body shape with the Raptor is of course more drastic.

It's a shame that we couldn't update the character models sooner in the Fort Forinthry storyline.

Unfortunately despite outsourcing the Ellamaria and Raptor assets at the start of the year, they weren't available for release until near the end of Dead and Buried's development. (Assets at the current level of detail take a lot longer to create and rig than 10 years ago.)

I can entirely understand you seeking evidence that we chose to make the Raptor look female, but I can only assure you that wasn't the intention. The Raptor persona is meant to be male, and will continue to be played as such.

For more information about why the Raptor's identity was revealed and specifically why one character in particular, I recommend Mod Jack's livestream on the subject, if you haven't already seen it.
