Few thoughts...

The sad part of the game industry is how volatile the business and operations are. Companies should be doing more for their employees, treat them well, fairly and just. Invest in them, because they can and have the means too, but don't because they have other motives and agendas often not known.

I was part of 3 studio closures over the years and got out before a 4th. My friends and co-workers all lost their jobs too. i.e Lucasarts shutdown after the Disney acquisition, CCP Atlanta, Blizzard International HQ in the Netherlands. These were all places I loved getting to be part of and cut short. I can only imagine what challenges lay ahead for the creative and technical talent making awesome entertainment that the planet consumes. The reality is that its difficult and not any easy climb for someone starting out. We often see short stints from people, that's ok in my books and so many different unique circumstances.

People also have a lot of great ambition to do bigger or different things, I have a lot myself. I love working on challenging and different things, maybe ADD to a degree? I learn super fast but also need to grow too. Not all environments are good, or healthy for career growth, sometimes that factors into me moving around. I don't regret anything, make mistakes and very human

By nature of what we do, we have such a great opportunity to build diverse melting pots of people, ideas, break down barriers, build up equality, lead with great values. We suck at this too and companies need good people to lead change, keep fighting for what's right and good! The game industry has such great potential and and at the same time could use a serious course correction.

Prior to the game industry I had a 15+ year career in a totally different industry (made networking and communications devices, designed broadband architecture at Cisco, 3COM/US Robotics, Netcom Online). When I wanted to try something totally new, it was going to be a big leap and some support from where I was landing. The 2 doctors Ray and Greg from BioWare gave me that opportunity and was fortunate to work on 3 different Mass Effect games. They are good people that are in it for smiles and delight and my life for ever changed because of those values.

One day I hope to build my own studio, first and foremost with foundations centered on people, and have a lot of fun at the same time making cool things with friends.
