Can you try logging out, logging in and waiting in the lobby until the cache download bar is full - then try again?
We're working on fixing the root cause issue, but we're finding this process helps improve the situation for a lot of players as a solution in the meantime.
Mmmm, I open the game (app), there is no loading screen to be seen. I hit "play" and it takes me to the opening island to talk to the mayor - which puts me to the "design your hero" screen where "done" again does nothing.
Talked to the team - if you could log out, log in, wait at the 'Play' screen for 4 minutes or so without switching to any other apps or letting it go into the background, and try again?
Opened the app and got to the play page (after the staring loading bar and something about pre inventory flashed up for a second)signed out then back in and pressed play and the same thing happens am I doing something wrong?

We've seen some players have used the Sign In With Google button after having an account under the same Gmail (or vice versa) and it blocks completion of the Character Create.
Could that possibly apply to you? If so, could you try logging in via the standard email (or vice versa if the opposite applies) and seeing if it unblocks you?
