691s your journey at at Jag X how have you
694s found the last couple of years like
696s where did you start how did you get to
697s this point
698s yeah yeah so I started at Jag X um in
702s 2018 mid 2018 um and I joined as QA um
706s starting on the M against mying rework
709s um and it's been yeah six six years now
712s just over six years um now in design
715s I've been in design for a couple years
717s um and yeah it's been it's been an
719s interesting like crazy crazy right it's
720s so cool to see how um a game that you've
723s played for so many years like how how it
725s works how it works behind the scenes um
728s it's really cool seeing how game
729s development works like like what it's
730s really really like uh internally um how
733s all the cogs in the machine work um yeah
736s it's been it's been really fun and lots
738s of like lots of learning um about what
741s makes RuneScape um lots of learning a
743s lot about the community lots of making
745s friends with people in the community
747s lots of you know close relationships and
749s lots of great dialogue and yeah this is
754s been an awesome time yeah for
757s sure nice I love that I love that um
761s quick side note this is something I've
763s not done and I was told
765s to right click symbol at the top of your
767s screen and set as active do we know

775s active there are so many things to this
777s game which I'm still learning it's
780s honestly crazy Have You Ever Had A
782s Moment Like That M Breezy where you just
784s sit back and sometimes you're just like
786s I you feel like you're an expert and

791s didn't know this I did not know this
793s yeah yeah I mean like RuneScape is such
794s a large game you're always GNA have that
796s even even nowadays actually like for the
798s six years that I've been here I I'll
800s I'll find stuff that I've worked on and
802s just completely forget that I worked on
803s it I be like oh my God that's that's
805s that's like wait I did that or like I
807s was part of that yeah that's cool it's
810s cool it's cool to celebrate stuff like
812s this like obviously with the whole
813s Mining and smithing update that was like
815s one of your first babies
818s right yeah indeed yeah I joined I joined
820s quite late into the development um by
823s the time I joined there was about six
824s months left but that was like something
827s like an 18mon project and realistically
829s even longer than that because of like
830s the previous iterations so um yeah it
834s was it was like we we were in there I
836s think someone said in the chat it just
837s jumped into the the end with it but that
840s was such a fun project like I think it's
842s to this day one of my like most favorite
844s ones

1003s Breezy that you've done like tell us
1005s more what else have you worked on what
1007s else has been something that
1010s you're you're finding really passionate
1013s um that you that you really want to get
1014s on to like was something like for
1016s example like the mining and smithing
1018s like when you first went into that was
1019s that something that you were really
1020s passionate about that you were like yes
1022s I can't wait to get into this I want to
1023s get more into the Skilling or is it
1025s something that you kind of fell into and
1028s then now you're trying to get more
1032s insight into into all that does that
1033s make sense am I yeah yeah yeah no no
1036s like in terms of um well in in terms of
1039s what projects we work on most of the
1041s time we we we just get assign projects
1043s um like we'll we'll try and put people
1047s um where like where their strength shine
1049s so obviously you'll find like more
1051s combat oriented devs and like designers
1054s and stuff on those types of projects um
1057s but it's also important for people to uh
1059s to like learn as well so um you'll see
1062s ax of stuff but yeah I was I was
1064s assigned to the project um when I joined
1066s um me mod camel and modu all joined the
1070s same day we all got given different
1071s projects to do which was quite cool but
1073s mining mining was like one of the first
1076s skills in game that I really wanted to
1078s get to 99 uh it ended up being fire
1081s making unfortunately so it wasn't mining
1084s um but I have like really really fun
1086s memories of when me and my friends first
1088s made our like RuneScape accounts right
1090s um and we were in like the first on to
1092s tural Island but then um in lumbridge FL
1095s mining um I think that was all I did
1097s back in the day but yeah I've got some
1099s very Vivid memories of that um so to
1101s come and work on it like for for that to
1103s be the first project was really cool um
1105s if you were following like the mining
1108s reor yeah if you if you if you were
1111s following the mining Smith and rework um
1113s you'll know that it it changed a little
1115s bit over the years um there was like
1117s some there was a few different polls
1119s that went out Etc so I was keeping up
1121s with it at the time um I honestly didn't
1124s like even even about a month or two
1126s months out from working at jagex I
1127s didn't know I'd be working at jagex so
1129s just keeping up with it playing the game
1131s and then next thing you know a few
1133s months later I'm working on the project
1135s so but very cool very exciting stuff um
1138s and it was a big project
1139s um lots lots and lots and lots of stuff
1142s that I learned from it um and it was fun
1144s as well like honestly just just getting
1145s into it like just being having the dream
1148s of working here and then being able to
1149s work here and finally get to know all
1151s the J mods on a first name basis um and
1153s become friends with them and work on the
1154s game Etc as all yeah what year did you
1157s start what year did you start a j x and
1160s you've been playing it was how long 201
1163s 18 uh I've been playing since
1166s 2006 um 2006 SC that is a long time for
1171s someone to be playing that's I mean what
1173s the game is almost 25 years old now that
1176s is you you've been here a long time
1177s you've been a long time yeah indeed
1180s indeed part that must be great to be
1183s able to see your product see or I say
1186s your product but see the design that
1188s You' created like on screen like on a
1190s game you love like there must be such a
1192s like what kind of feelings you get when
1194s when you see stuff like that yeah I mean
1197s like it's really really satisfying as
1198s the game developer like the reason that
1200s I went into game development and game
1201s design was to um elicit the same
1204s emotions that I had as as a player
1206s playing like just any other game as well
1208s it was like RuneScape old like PS2 games
1210s when I was a kid like all those things
1212s inspired me to to come into games
1214s because like the stories The Narrative
1217s like the game play the things that you
1218s do they all elicit emotions whether like
1221s you get really tied to a character and
1222s maybe they die off and you like you're
1224s sad about it or you do something you and
1226s you find it challenging and you find
1228s like overcoming it really happy like us
1230s being able to bring that out in people
1233s is a really cool thing like you don't
1234s you don't often get that in too many um
1237s like Industries it's like obviously like
1239s with like creative Industries and making
1241s art movies books Etc you can right you
1243s can do that but like games games is
1246s where is at for me um so so being able
1248s to do something and then see people play
1250s with it interact with it you know get
1252s annoyed if you want them to get annoyed
1253s be happy if you want them to be happy
1255s seeing all that seeing smiles on
1256s people's faces or confusion and all that
1258s like that that's a really satisfying
1260s experience it's really really cool on a
1262s quick side note another satisfying thing
1264s is every time I come on stream I'm being
1266s gifted with stuff so again I can't thank
1269s you enough for for people you just got
1271s gifted some nice stuff some really
1273s lovely stuff which is honestly really
1275s sweet of people thank you um thank you
1278s scapers and again it's so nice to hear
1280s how passionate you are about these
1283s things like it it gives you it gives me
1286s the the sense of being in a place which
1289s fills me with so much joy to work at
1291s because it's like hearing people talk
1294s about stuff like this the games that
1297s they've worked on games that they've
1298s been so passionate about for so many
1300s years to finally be able to to input
1303s their their own their own energy and
1306s their own love into the game like it's
1307s such a wonderful thing so yeah thank you
1309s for sharing that that's really nice um
1312s yeah yeah that's really really cool in
1315s terms of like other projects that you
1317s asked about too worked on a whole host
1319s of things um since I've since I've been
1321s here at jackx um so it started with
1323s mining A Smith work I did um the morous
1326s slay dungeon with more true and like
1328s Fire Spirit stuff during one of the
1330s early game jams back then um I worked on
1334s um desperate times a little bit comp
1337s Cape
1338s rework some involvement in anoria um 120
1342s farming in her lore I think the pvm Hub
1344s came out that same year as well we did
1346s game Jam I worked with quite quite a few
1348s other J mods on that um and then I did I
1351s think it was two years on the ninja team
1354s quite quite like two years worth of like
1356s really nice quality life updates um
1360s moved on to Zam after that um and then
1365s that that was roughly the time came into
1367s uh design right and that became more
1369s about um sort of overlooking um sort of
1372s having oversight on on more projects but
1374s still being involved with stuff so like
1376s worldy flash events I had some um and
1379s then um a little bit of well a little
1382s bit of like everything in for for INF
1383s Frey
1385s um the yeah like like like the Grove as
1389s well I had I had like quite a bit of uh
1392s involvement early on in that um and I
1395s just just just like various stuff really
1397s over the years like we all have like so
1398s many like so much involvement in
1400s different things across like it's really
1401s hard to like say that you know like I
1403s did this and that was it like we all
1405s everyone here at like on the development
1407s team has a hand in everything that we do
1410s whether it's like feedback or direct um
1413s input you know it's it's there's so many
1416s ways of being involved and things and
1418s this is also again thanks I mean how
1420s does that also carry into for example
1423s with um play feedback like how much of
1425s that play feedback sort of like Leeds
1427s into um into everything that you see
1431s that the scapers see like before us like
1433s do you do you reckon like a lot of it is
1435s um from player feedback as well like how
1438s much of that yeah yeah Abol on
1441s absolutely like like we're always
1443s thinking about the player um with
1446s everything that we discuss like part of
1449s just being a game developer is being
1450s able to wear like different hats so like
1453s like well I guess like at a high level
1455s you wear your developer hat and you wear
1457s your player hat and sometimes you just
1458s like you need to switch and being able
1460s to switch as a is a is a key skill right
1463s um in understanding like what it what it
1465s what does it mean for the game design or
1466s for the game development to do this
1468s thing was mean for the player but it
1470s kind of goes deeper than that too like
1471s there's different types of players
1473s there's different groups of players um
1475s there's different like levels of
1477s Engagement from different players you
1478s know I mean like we often talk about
1480s like pvmers and skillers and quers but
1482s it goes even deeper than that um and
1484s we'll try and like consider how those
1487s people like to play what their feedback
1489s might be what feedback on like similar
1491s things has been before from those people
1493s right um it's it's always at the top of
1495s our mind like that like we don't do
1497s anything really without without
1499s considering the player like to some
1500s extent see hear that hear that players G
1504s to Bing a point as much as I can um your
1508s input does have a massive massive impact
1511s on what you see before you so you know
1514s we are we are doing everything we can
1516s okay enough with the trades my chat is

1523s had very generous amounts of stuff being
1526s traded with me but thank you but enough

1576s completionist um I like to do absolutely
1580s everything I love taking off
1581s achievements and any 100 pering of games
1584s right um in recent years I've had to
1586s stop because I've got a huge backlog of
1588s games and I can't keep spending too much
1589s time uh playing the one game um but I I
1593s absolutely love love completionist
1595s content nice I'm always for it I'm I'm
1597s definitely the same I do like to
1598s complete and this is this has been my
1601s frustration I'm watching my HP don't
1603s worry I am watching it um I did not
1605s bring food but God damn it my HP is
1608s going down very slowly so it's fine it's
1610s fine um but yes I am definitely a
1613s completionist as well I'm definitely on
1615s the uh like what's annoying is I'll
1617s watch my skills and I'll get really
1619s annoyed that they're not equal so I'll
1622s make sure everything gets to 50 and then
1625s everything gets to 60 and then
1627s everything goes to 70 and like it's
1629s reallyy annoying like I just kind of
1631s want to just get to a point where I'm
1632s just like yes just just skill one up all
1634s the way to the top
1636s but yeah I'm like if you see I've got a
1640s few Oh yay 6,000 That's good I've healed
1643s someone is someone's either healing no
1645s you can't heal someone else but I'm
1647s being healed at the same time just
1649s strange does that happen are you being
1652s are you being healed as well you can be
1655s yeah I think people might have prisms
1656s and stuff down right well thank you for
1659s whoever putting prisons down and helping
1661s everyone else that's very kind of you
1663s but yeah i' like 65 64 70 50 50 60 60 70
1669s 60 like they're kind of une equal but
1671s look they're all in their 60s I'm like I
1673s was trying to go through them and then
1675s you get to summoning and farming don't
1678s judge me um I find those the hardest
1682s what what's your what's your favorite
1683s skill would you say or Breezy and what's
1686s your least favorite
1688s skill my favorite skill
1692s yes that's interesting um what is my
1695s favorite skill I think uh recently
1697s archaeology I I think if I think before
1700s archology would have been between
1701s inventional mining but recently
1703s archology I really really like that um
1705s the release of archaeology was something
1707s special um um play for it was was very
1711s very fun
1713s um necromancy was
1717s fun necromancy was really fun as well I
1719s really like the upgrading and stuff and
1721s like the sort of path through the whole
1722s skill yeah um and the different combat
1725s changes that I brought in um least
1728s favorite I'm not sure
1731s IA got one probably agility agility yeah
1735s I remember doing 99 on was it the proof
1738s posts and then like there was a specific
1741s spot on the pr agility course where you
1742s could set your mouse up and then and all
1744s you had to do was click so I just did
1746s that over Double XP whil watching some
1748s stuff I was watching repeat that again
1750s where did you go it was the pronus um
1755s agility course this would have been like
1756s I think I maxed in like 201 17 I think
1760s it was and I think at the time that was
1762s one of the best places to go where is
1765s where is this course I don't think I've
1767s got it yet it's in pronus I you might
1770s not have unlocked it yet I don't think I
1772s have no I've been told by mod Doom um H
1777s where is it where is it where is it
1781s the let's let's a het Oasis het this
1785s agility course is apparently meant to be
1787s a good one oh quite a long one I
1793s hear but it's one of those which yeah
1796s you know what I enjoy them I like
1797s putting on a good podcast
1799s Listen to A D and D podcast and I sort
1801s of just like sit back and sort of just
1802s go through the motions but that's I tend
1804s to um do that usually when I do my um
1809s agility courses I've been I found the
1810s one in the wilderness and I've done that
1812s a few times getting to that was um
1816s terrifying because I almost died five
1817s times but once you're in it's like it's
1820s great it's great just keep going I don't
1822s know why it was one of those things I
1823s was like oh I've not explored any of the
1825s Wilderness and I'm strong enough I was
1827s like weing like tier 40 gear it was like
1829s ridiculous and I was like I could do
1831s this I was just like running away from
1833s everything um but yeah that's really
1836s cool that's really cool um but yeah I
1839s want to I I promised to you that we are
1841s going to be sharing some other stuff
1843s that's coming in um so I am going to
1847s pass the more Breezy when he gives me
1849s the thumbs up

1865s have we got here wonderful okay so today
1869s I've got um our our board our our mirror
1872s board I think a lot of people should
1874s have seen this from Mod Jack's dreams he
1876s used to uh jump on this and and and
1880s share some like RuneScape design stuff
1881s but what I've done today is of um
1883s actually got the mining and smithing the
1885s 11 Mining and smithing he will he will
1887s zoom in he's just showing you the whole
1889s page they're excited yes they um yeah I
1894s always find it interesting to like look
1896s into the mid development stuff for uh
1899s for like games I always love seeing like
1901s work in progress and like you know just
1903s just just how things theol so I thought
1905s I'd show that off today and just sort of
1907s take a look through Concepts and ideas
1909s that we had or like original um designs
1912s how we Chang them just stuff like that
1915s really um so start here really with like
1918s this this was the start of the project
1920s um in the early days like we we start
1923s off by just defining what the project
1926s actually is what the update actually is
1929s um what it's going to contain what sort
1931s of things that we want players to be
1933s doing what the objectives are like you
1935s know maybe like why we're doing it and
1936s so on and so forth yeah um and and this
1939s is really where we started so there's
1940s there's some stuff in here that's just
1941s sort of left over um this this already
1943s changed over time but very early on um I
1947s always find that handy to make things
1949s visual um I'm a I'm a very big sort of
1952s visual learner I'm a very big like
1954s person on on presenting these visuals
1957s look at these visuals these look
1959s great so when you're so when you're
1961s describing like what the update is going
1963s to be it it really helps to just break
1965s it down into its most basic Essence and
1967s just say it and and and just show it
1969s with images you know just illustrate the
1970s ideas like this wonderful um editing
1975s that I did here just to show the artists
1977s what what what we might have our stuff
1978s look like um but these these sorts of
1982s things internally like when you're
1983s speaking to lots of different
1984s departments and stuff it's really easy
1986s to um get ideas across using this sort
1989s of thing um because people will come to
1992s like like Jag specifically with varying
1995s levels of understanding of the game and
1996s stuff like that so we have to be able to
1999s like translate that basically for them
2001s um or and and just help them like
2003s understand it because it makes all of
2004s our Lives easier if we do that um and
2007s and and and and this right here just a
2008s sort of stuff that we'll go through so
2010s this right here is just showing off like
2012s how we want the ores to work how you
2013s want the bars to work what you'll be
2014s able to make what level you might need
2017s and so on and so forth um we'll take it
2020s quick and that's really the same for
2022s we'll take second there does anyone have

2047s first of all before going into like
2049s in-depth designs of how we want things
2051s to work where like the agreed upon
2053s things are that we start with and then
2055s we can like if we're happy with that
2056s then we'll go further into into
2059s designing things so this was just early
2060s on looking at how the master work sword
2062s we be created so like we knew we wanted
2064s to do Masterwork we knew we wanted to
2066s incorporate the Primal stuff M and then
2069s looking at what exists already for
2071s master work looking at implementing Ence
2073s so this was decided quite early on um
2076s when you were going with it it just
2078s needed to be fleshed out which I'll come
2080s to you later on it's a it's a big old
2082s thing and then a similar thing for um
2085s the pickaxe of life and death I might I
2087s might slit up and say Hatchet at some
2091s point um so if I do I'm sorry because
2094s I've been switching between Hatchet and
2095s pickaxe for like don't May don't really
2098s yeah but yeah just just once again sort
2100s of explaining illustrating for anyone um
2103s that needs it really
2104s like what are sort of tools are what
2106s sort of things we're aiming for like
2108s where things are missing um what ideas
2110s we we want um to get in like what the
2113s theme of things might be just again just
2116s just just to communicate to people
2117s internally um like what what the update
2120s is really so I'll stop there very
2123s briefly if there's any questions before
2125s I move on

2149s augment it is is it just follows the
2151s same precedent um of previous Smith
2154s items in that you can't augment it and
2156s we've discussed ideas in like ways of of
2158s making that more uh enticing so maybe
2161s it's like following like the necromancy
2163s path of doing extra things to be able to
2165s turn it into something that you can
2167s augment and use or you know it has
2168s effects or something just just as as
2170s examples um but yeah that's that's the
2174s reason
2178s yeah okay I'll move on just because of
2180s time I'm just conscious of time yeah of
2182s course the moment um I can show off some
2184s of the concepts that we have so we have
2186s quite a few concepts for the project
2188s honestly I'm obsessed
2190s page I Tred to keep things as updated as
2193s possible to to like show off the
2196s development of things and yeah so like
2199s we can just start with a sword here
2200s really um so very early on we knew that
2204s we wanted uh a two-handed weapon um and
2209s we went with the Primal sword so here's
2210s just some examples really of how that
2212s sort of turned that developed over time
2213s so we start with a few different
2215s examples we have it from a sort of more
2217s faithful to more what we've call reforce
2220s which is sort of like a reworked version
2222s of it and then from that we sort of went
2224s into some more
2227s exploration and then if you if if anyone
2230s here read the um right click examine for
2233s the first the first right click examin
2235s for one time Min thing um we we took
2238s these options and then like wet it down
2241s to this to just these feww so it was the
2243s like the original remake um how pretty
2247s godamn Master sorry um a bit of a change
2250s or do we go with um options see here
2253s which was a bit of rework and the
2254s overwhelming feedback from from the
2256s players was to was to stick to what's
2258s there already so that's where we got um
2261s our
2262s end concept for really and that's
2265s basically the theme for these things for
2267s like
2269s pickaxes
2271s um same thing here so we started off
2274s with just a few ideas using the Primal
2277s color
2278s then we were like well okay but some
2280s some Prim weapons or like all them are
2282s are black so let's let's do some of
2283s those variations and then that's when we
2286s asked players I think it was this one I
2289s think it this was the image that we
2291s presented to players in the rce oh yeah
2294s and it was at that point where we said
2295s okay again do we want to go down the
2297s route of being faithful to what um what
2301s Primal equipment is like or do we want
2302s to actually use this as an opportunity
2304s to switch that up and make them like
2305s sort of red or orange just like the gar
2308s is and again the feedback was very much
2309s keep it as it is right now um but on the
2312s pickaxes specifically a lot of the
2313s feedback was also about like it looks
2315s too much like a Matic for example so we
2317s just looked at switching that up is it
2319s like the bent handle is it like the
2321s webbed feel um for the heads um and
2324s that's when we moved on to More
2326s Exploring some of these and then I
2329s worked with
2330s um mod back I think it was um to come up
2336s with with this in end something that
2337s looks a lot more like a pickaxe and it
2338s could there into the fit into the Primal
2342s theme right on a similar note I guess
2345s like for like the pickaxe of life and
2348s death so it started off being called it
2350s was either the special pickaxe or the
2352s Masterwork pickaxe I with special
2357s pickaxe um so we so once we finally had
2360s the name that was great but this is this
2361s is where it
2362s started again just some ideas again the
2365s whole like Matic sort of feedback um we
2368s helped to to to uh Define this as well
2371s and moved away from that get what we've
2373s got going on here in this image and then
2376s refine that down a little bit we all we
2378s all sort of uh like take our picks and
2381s like give our feedback and stuff and
2383s then right that's where we get to this
2385s final thing here where we like really
2386s Define the materials and the look and
2388s stuff it looks so good I honestly can't
2391s wait to get one it's it looks
2394s amazing what is the process what is the
2396s process to get it how long it
2399s take it should take quite a while think
2401s so you need the what what pickax do you
2404s have right now um well thank well very
2407s kindly I was gifted um a dragon pickaxe
2411s uh let me just double check yeah Dragon
2414s Hatchet right Hatchet I was given a
2417s dragon Hatchet which was very kind of um
2420s a player to give me so thank you umer
2423s but yes that's what that's what I've got
2424s at the
2425s moment I think you'll need you'll need
2428s to get the Earth and song uh pickaxe
2431s first and to do that you'll need I think
2433s two dragon pickaxes and in Candle
2436s pickaxe and a crystal pickaxe oh my
2439s goodness um it's it's quite quite quite
2442s a little bit but I'm sure you come
2444s across on your Journeys I will you know
2447s what I'm I'm I'm persistent I will I
2450s will persist and I will get them um
2455s so also oh yeah I mean said this is the
2458s Primal kite Shield uh kite Shield yeah
2461s we once again like originally had um
2464s sort of variations for is it do we
2465s follow a remastered route or do we go
2467s down the more reworked route and then
2470s again once we got the feedback um from
2471s the first rce um we we we said yeah
2474s let's let's let's stick to being
2476s faithful here because that's what the
2478s players really want yeah for sure um but
2481s we definitely started that that way
2483s sorry no no no I was just saying the
2485s wiki is my friend so shout out to the Wi
2488s crew thank you um but yeah apparently
2491s it's two dragons made into an Mando and
2496s a crystal is that the route that sounds
2499s about right yeah yeah thank you for the
2502s clarification the French fry but yes
2506s carry on well Breezy no problems um and
2509s this is just some stuff on the Primal
2510s armor um rework itself but should be
2514s remas really but yeah we start I I'll
2517s just cover it in a second but we in our
2519s in our like brief and Pitch process
2522s which is what we call it internally
2523s that's that's when we all sit down and
2524s we get like the idea across everyone and
2527s make sure everyone agrees on what on
2528s what we
2529s want but I'll I'll just cover in a sec
2532s but yeah it's just really showing off
2534s sort of different types of things that
2536s our concept artists need need to like
2538s come up with pay attention to um and and
2541s how that helps like when when when that
2543s gets transferred over to our character
2545s artists who have to like build the whole
2546s thing from just drawings um so yeah just
2551s just making sure that everything's as
2552s defined as possible everyone's happy
2554s things are agreed on yeah um pretty
2557s concept like how did you how did you
2559s come up with the concept what was it
2560s what was your the thought process behind
2562s it like did you take something and try
2565s to be like I can make this better and
2568s well I'm glad you asked I'm glad you
2570s asked so so this is our like brief and
2573s Pitch process which um so I've cut for
2576s what it's worth I've cut out a lot of
2577s things in this board which were either
2579s confidential or you know like personal
2581s information so this isn't like the full
2582s thing but um this is this is what it
2585s typically looks like when we when we sit
2586s down with our artists um and stuff what
2589s what we'll usually do is we'll like
2590s Define like what the item is what it
2592s should look like what it isn't isn't um
2594s so for example it's a direct and
2595s faithful remaster it's true to our
2597s current silhouette it's not our rework
2599s it's not bulky and that's the sort of
2601s things that will infer over here so for
2604s example these were the originals that
2606s were in game as of a few months AG to go
2608s um and we and we just Define for example
2611s that we want um a highrise version of
2614s what's current keep the shake materials
2615s and color schemes so just that for
2617s example and then showing like what sort
2619s of ideas we want to go down with um and
2622s specifying what we don't want as well so
2623s for example we don't want a bulky piece
2625s of armor um it already is like bulky to
2628s be fair but not quite this level of
2630s bulky right um and just trying to be
2633s specific as possible to give uh our
2635s artists the right path to go down is um
2639s it's easier for this one because it's a
2640s remaster of a of an object but for
2643s something like even let's say the the
2645s special pickaxe for example the the the
2647s pickaxe of life and death which is what
2648s this is supposed to be yeah um it can be
2652s very hard to just say like just make me
2654s a pickaxe um you have to specify what it
2656s what it looks like how you make it um
2659s might might matter a lot to the artist
2661s um what materials are used what things
2664s are used to make it all those things
2665s like go into what our concept arst so
2668s working together just communicating
2670s being specific with what you want what
2672s what the whole vision is communicating
2673s that is is is really really important um
2676s and we've got just a few different like
2678s sort of things here so the swords and
2681s stuff and then also just specifying what
2684s what type of assets we might need for
2686s the
2687s project and this has been really really
2689s useful actually and I know that a lot of
2691s people um are appreciating being able to
2694s see this visually as well so this is
2697s definitely a note mental note for future
2699s streams when we do stuff like this I
2701s will make sure we try to do this but
2703s this is more Breezy this is all more
2705s Breezy idea so thank you um for
2708s preparing all of this for us and for the
2710s scapers to to see this I know a lot of
2713s people are appreci appreciative um of
2716s this but look at that look at this this
2719s is crazy make sure you're zooming in I
2720s think a lot of people will appreciate
2722s zooming in on
2725s this I'll try my best um
2728s this right here was just a small um
2731s again just just an an illustrative Point
2734s um for our artists to understand when
2737s we're designing these like what exactly
2739s is we want because not not everyone's
2741s going to know for example that like all
2742s the dunge engineering armors follow like
2744s a tier system um if you if you actually
2747s look at all of our all the um either
2750s like whether it's Mage ranged or uh M
2753s armor and weapons what you'll actually
2755s realize is is that they come in four
2756s different variations so there's always
2759s um one variation for the first few
2760s levels a second for the next um third
2763s for the other and then the final tier um
2766s and and what they do is like they make
2767s small changes to like the armor for
2769s example and things like that so again
2771s like any anyone artist or anyone else
2774s that we get in isn't just going to
2775s automatically know that so it's it's
2777s it's very handy just to be able to
2779s communicate that and really get across
2780s what it is you want um and and what the
2783s sort of requirements are things that we
2785s have to be aware of you know it's not
2786s just like automatic knowledge you can't
2788s just assume that people know
2790s that and again just another example of
2792s somewhere where I tried to illustrate
2794s the fact that we have other tools of the
2795s same kind and appearance and yeah and
2797s how you want the new things to look what
2799s what what does this missing thing look
2801s like I suppose it must be so difficult
2803s as a designer to to come up with these
2806s new Concepts because there are so many
2809s other tools that people are using so
2811s when you when you I suppose in a way do
2813s you find it a hindrance or do you find
2814s it quite useful to to have um
2818s to have different tools that you can
2819s sort work off because at least you know
2822s what kind of design that you kind of
2823s want for it or do you do do you as a
2826s designer try to think out in the box or
2828s doing something completely different for
2830s these types of
2831s things it's really like um a whole bunch
2834s of things that come into one it can be
2836s like um is it is it like you are you
2840s first of all it depends on what type of
2841s update you're working on like if if the
2843s update is a quest that is very specific
2845s in a in a line of quests then you
2847s obviously want something that is
2849s suitable for the theme of the quests
2851s suitable to the theme of the areas that
2852s you're going to um and things like that
2854s you want to consider how it fits into
2856s the RuneScape art style how how it looks
2858s in the world right um how it feels um
2861s you want to consider any lore is there
2863s any sort of lore that that that feeds
2865s into it should this you know should this
2867s have this like glowing thing over here
2869s and would that make sense in the world
2871s and uh like things like that as an
2875s example that's pretty cool that's really
2878s cool these are some some any questions I
2881s was going to say any questions so far do
2883s you want to have a quick look through
2885s and see if um there's anything in there
2887s know we are slowly cutting short on time
2889s I know but I want you to finish your
2890s presentation so yeah no problems I I'm
2893s just taking a quick quick look now
2896s anything
2898s uh would would those types of Primal
2900s recolor be be able to add it someday um
2904s assuming you are
2907s talking about these ones maybe it's
2911s these are already in the game um so we
2914s updated this just shortly after the 110
2916s Mining and smiiing update um but
2918s actually like one big thing that we
2919s tried to do with this update was that
2922s like one when we asked our artists um
2924s about making this we also asked them
2926s like we said look these armors are
2928s essentially the same but they have
2930s different types of flayers and stuff so
2932s could we explore making making those
2934s because if we can then we can get a
2936s whole like a whole rework done
2937s essentially for a style right in dung
2939s engineering and we can like put these on
2941s NPCs and use them in quests up update
2943s them throughout the game you know make
2944s make make the game look more um more up
2947s to date which is which is what people
2949s are always asking for so it's just one
2951s thing that we Tred to get in as well and
2952s I'm really happy we did manage to get it
2954s to it was quite awesome to see
2956s that is all there's some I've got some
2960s mid development images as well again I
2962s just try to capture as much as I can um
2965s just of of various things I mean there
2967s like small examples too of things that
2968s we'll be um working on day-to-day so for
2971s example over here you can see like the
2972s sword on the left is slightly darker
2974s than the sword on the right there's less
2976s um like sort of detailing the lighting
2978s and stuff to it and it's just like small
2980s things that we'll discuss and go back
2982s and forth on and like just just just try
2985s and get as right as possible before the
2986s update goes out um similarly like over
2989s here is what I was talking about when we
2991s were making those other armors for noite
2994s to prium yeah um one thing we have to do
2997s if we're making new assets is is
2999s defining what the material is so like
3001s okay all the previous all the all the
3004s old like engineering stuff use the same
3005s sort of material but like sort of
3008s recolored um but nowadays we have the
3010s capability to actually try and
3014s um like Define what material is how does
3016s it look does it look rough does it like
3018s how would it look like it feels yeah um
3021s does it does it Shine does it not shine
3023s you know stuff like that and that's so
3025s that if we ever come to do any more um
3027s like remasters or anything like that we
3029s have like those materials available in
3032s there like we like it just makes sense
3034s when you apply them like if we ever did
3036s for example a noite two-handed crossbow
3039s whatever um we already have that
3042s material at hand so we can apply it to
3044s that and that you know it makes it look
3046s consistent it makes it make sense um and
3048s so on and so forth so these are just an
3050s examples I think it this was Modo who
3053s was was responsible for these you can
3054s kind of see the difference if I zoom in
3056s a little bit kind of see the difference
3057s on like the bottom noite versus the top
3059s noite um the is the cium I forget the
3062s names but the cium one for example the
3065s top one is the older one and this bottom
3067s one is a newer one so that's just like a
3068s round of feedback um to refine them
3072s really and just try try and again just
3074s try and get in the best places possible
3075s again the permium is actually a really
3077s good example here up top it looks quite
3079s sort of saturated lost and its colors
3082s and then down here you can see it's got
3084s quite a good bit of color in yeah the
3086s nice punch of nice contrast of colors is
3089s actually yeah it does give it that a
3091s little more to it it's nice love it
3095s lovely I'll just show this off because I
3097s see everyone's really really happy to
3099s get into wood cutting so this this was
3101s just the armor as well it's just just
3102s sort of timeline of the armor so it
3103s started off started off kind of reddish
3106s blackish um and then we went through
3108s some Some Loops of feedback and just
3110s these these are just some images that
3111s that that was working with Mod wave on I
3114s think is his mod name um had a really
3116s really fun time um just just working our
3119s way through these you know comparing
3120s things to each other trying to get like
3122s the colors and stuff on them right to
3123s match the best uh to match as best as
3126s possible um and just various thing here
3129s too it's like just small bugs even even
3131s small bugs like uh the plus five I think
3134s this was the plus five boots were
3135s different color for some reason just you
3137s know just it's just everyday part of
3140s like development really um which is
3142s quite fun but
3145s yeah um and then there so there was also
3148s quite a bit of uh I I'll I'll skip over
3151s questions just to get wood gun right now
3152s but this is yeah yeah keep going this is
3154s this is what our like Masterwork process
3156s looked like for the sword um did they
3159s did some research on it and then again
3161s put everything here visually because it
3163s helps like the devs understand how
3164s things work rather than just sort of
3166s typing it out um it helps put things
3169s there this is how just like
3170s photoshopping or putting into paint the
3172s interface and okay here's how it should
3174s maybe look and here's what we should
3176s name this tab and stuff and yeah so for
3180s all of these I have some I kept some of
3182s the updated versions of them
3183s unfortunately don't have time to go
3185s through them but um I kept them just in
3187s case want to share if you wanted to um
3191s and obviously more breey if you have the

3265s of like contact Welding which B like in
3267s space in a vacuum metals of the same
3269s type um will well together automatically
3272s and we were going to have some sort of
3273s theme around that in the rituals and um
3276s doing that with different ores and uh
3278s bringing them together to make like
3279s special chunks of metal and so on and so
3282s forth but we go through like bits of the
3284s um feedback with each other um spoke
3286s with like mod Stu and Jack and the rest
3289s of the team and stuff and get a second
3292s version move on to like a third version
3294s um if anyone ends up screenshotting this
3296s or whatever you'll see that like things
3298s like the meteorite metal fragment for
3301s the shooting star were initially meant
3303s to be based on Stardust but we ended up
3304s changing that to the amount of swings um
3307s just again small small small decisions
3309s throughout development which can really
3311s impact
3312s things but now um with just a few
3315s minutes left um I wanted to share some
3317s of the stuff on 110 with C Fletching so
3320s um start off with the let's go with with
3324s the new tree are we ready for the tree
3326s are we we ready for the tree are we
3327s ready for the tree here's the tree look
3330s how pretty it is godamn that's nice so
3332s this right here is the Eternal Magic
3334s Tree um there's there's a bit of low
3338s we've got going on here so the uh we
3340s have a new ilanka that you'll be able to
3342s meet um she's a Bist who's responsible
3345s for cross breathing is trees with gor's
3349s magic trees um so be a little bit low in
3353s there too um she's been around on gillor
3355s for a while um I don't think it's
3358s specifically stated like when she came
3360s but sometime after hannabas arrived in
3362s ganor for for those of you who know
3365s you're RuneScape lower um yeah I like
3368s lovely beautiful tree if I do say so
3370s myself um I'm gonna someone's called you
3375s uh where is it where's that oh damn it
3378s Bessie someone called you Bessie that is
3379s a oh oh my God that is a beautiful that
3382s is a beautiful Bessie I'm going to call

3424s to get they get more of it shown up to
3425s the players and you all scapers get to
3429s see this first hand look how pretty that
3432s is um don't screenshot it because we
3435s will be announcing it soon and you'll
3436s get the Lovely Ires version of it um but
3441s yeah got what else is there anything
3443s else yeah I just want to quickly quickly
3445s go over the the new hatchets that we've
3448s got so I think that will get everything
3450s in the screen um the hatchet of Earth
3452s Song and the hatchet of life and death
3454s so right now those those are the missing
3456s ones in game in terms of like special
3458s hatchets um so once again combining your
3462s Crystal and Dwarven hatchets together um
3465s and then doing a lengthy process with
3467s the hatchet of earthin song to get the
3469s hatchet of life and death here um some
3472s some similarities in what you'll be
3474s doing like with the patch of Earth and
3476s song it will just be combining the the
3477s two together with a special item the
3479s special item I actually picked out from
3481s um there was a Reddit uh post from a
3484s player about about something so picked
3487s something from that I've been asking all
3488s over Twitter and uh Discord and stuff
3490s for ideas and I've try I've been trying
3492s to incorporate what I can from players
3494s uh where possible um there was a lot of
3496s players asking about Witchwood on the on
3499s Discord they really really love
3501s Witchwood so we got something Witchwood
3503s in for the hatchet of life and death as
3504s well so do people need to Quest or will
3508s this just be a very lengthy process to
3510s get um you'll you'll need quests if
3514s you've already made like the pickaxes of
3516s uran song and and life and death you
3518s should be in a good spot and there'll be
3520s nothing like there'll be no new Quests
3522s for right no new Quest so if you're if
3524s you're up to Hatchet of Earth song
3527s you're fine to
3530s clarify yep um but yeah um I saw some
3535s mention of wood spirits we'll be uh
3538s releasing wood spirits uh onto more drop
3541s tables um ahead of the update um
3545s probably uh
3547s like like quite a few weeks I don't want
3549s to put a timeline on but quite a few
3551s weeks before the update just to make
3552s sure that they're in the economy and
3553s people are able to obtain them before
3554s this comes up um and then we'll let you
3557s uh know what like sort of things you'll
3560s need um are logs being removed from the
3563s drop table um I would love to look at
3565s that um I'm not sure if we can for this
3568s update um but if there's an opportunity
3571s to then yeah definitely um and then also
3574s something that a lot of people have been
3576s asking for um is first of all the
3579s ability to remove hatchets from the tool
3583s belt so the lovely monster did that um a
3586s few weeks ago uming you'll now be able
3589s to to remove and add hatchets to your
3591s tool belt just like you can with matics
3593s and pickaxes and then also adding in the
3595s missing or a cal of the corium Bane and
3598s other run hatchets as well for players
3600s to make from those Metals amazing happy
3603s about that in the chat that's good we'll
3606s be we'll be sharing more info um when
3609s possible but yeah we'll be we'll be
3611s making new new um new bows and crossbows
3614s from the Eternal magic logs um there'll
3619s be a new Masterwork range weapon uh
3621s you'll be using Primal like arrow tips
3623s and Primal bolt tips to make ammunition
3625s uh to make primal limbs so definitely
3627s make sure you're still mining uh they'll
3629s be handy items not yeah we'll be we'll
3633s be talking more about this very soon

3794s with the with the feedback um on the on
3797s the Masterwork sword for example from
3798s one time maning smithing so just wanted
3801s to quickly share what our sort of plans
3802s are with that um the Masterwork range
3804s weapon that's coming with 110 with kind
3806s glitching um so the the ideas that we've
3809s been like sort of talking about with the
3810s with the uh combat team mod Ryan pigeon
3814s sponge is that we want to put um
3817s legendary weapon passives and specs onto
3821s the Masterwork item so the master workk
3823s range weapon that will come with the 110
3825s Fletching um and with cutting update uh
3828s will have the B The Last Guardian um
3830s effects but they'll be weaker so they
3832s won't be the same power um they'll be
3835s they'll be weaker effects but that means
3836s like just sort of Less on the numbers
3838s like half the damage or whatever it
3840s might be um some of the numbers that
3842s we've had like floating for example are
3844s like um instead of like 12 to six stacks
3846s for the Bas guardians but it'll be like8
3848s to four um you'll it's not it won't just
3851s automatically be applied you'll have to
3853s go and do something with it so you'll
3855s have to do some sort of extra process
3857s maybe that means like killing some
3859s enemies creating something getting
3861s something turning into something and
3863s then um essentially like almost like
3865s like custom fit fitting that weapon with
3867s that new effect um and then and then it
3869s has that effect um and that and that
3872s would apply the same for yeah yeah
3874s absolutely will be um we would like to
3876s do the same with things like Masterwork
3878s sword and whichever Masterwork weapon
3880s magic weapon comes with on room crafting
3884s um the idea there is to like keep like
3887s the the legendary like um effects um you
3891s have to do something to obtain it and
3893s yeah after that you've got your
3894s empowered um weapon so to speak so let
