Hello 'Scapers!

It feels like only yesterday that we presented proposed changes to the Fractured Staff of Armadyl and Animated Dead and we heard your requests for a Beta world to get hands-on with these changes and test them. Well, today's the day!

How to Get Involved

Head over to the latest TWIR for links to the Beta world for both Jagex Launcher and RuneScape Launcher users! From there, you'll import your live save file into the beta. You'll need to have Animate Dead and/or the Fractured Staff of Armadyl on your live save to access them in the beta and test the changes. You'll be able to see the comprehensive list of the changes you're experiencing in the original Reddit post linked above.

My Shiny Feed(back) and Me

Once you've had a decent amount of time to actually get hands-on and try these changes out, head to the Community tab in your UI to check out the in-game poll to give your feedback on both Animate Dead and FSOA! (Don't vote if you've not had time to really engage with it, I see you rushing to vote right away.)

As in the original discussion with the proposed changes, please keep feedback constructive to help us get the best insight into your thoughts. We'll be monitoring this thread as the beta progresses, and relaying the feedback to the relevant JMods but for now, enjoy testing the changes and let us know how you get on!

Oh, and we also re-hashed seeds, so no snooping of Telos or Arch-Glacor.

So, to recap:

  • Exit any existing instances of the Jagex Launcher before you click the link.
  • Please use the in-game poll first!
  • Constructive additional feedback goes in here.
  • The beta will be available until May 16th!

Thanks in advance for trying this out, and we hope that you enjoy getting to test and give feedback on these changes!

Wanting to ask for feedback on something that many players aren't even able to access is so insanely stupid.

This is the illusion of choice if I ever saw anything like it in runescape. How hard can it be to make an NPC give you FSOA in the beta worlds?

You want constructive feedback, but it is going to be literally impossible for a large number of your players to give it.

Heyo!

This beta has come about from the initial feedback we had gotten from our players that it would be hard to compare how it currently feels versus these changes and that is the question we are trying to gather data on with this beta.

"How does this version of the FSOA feel in comparison to the previous"

We want to know how it compares to how it currently is and the best people to ask for that information are the people who are currently using it, while we could gather data from all players on how the changed FSOA would feel in this beta, without the previous experience using it that data would be not directly relevant to the question we are asking.

If we want to get a more broad understanding of how the general player base feels about an item we can run another beta in the future to answer that question or maybe introduce a vendor to this beta at a later point but right now we want to hear from the players with current experience of using the FSOA.

Biggest gripes: - Zamorak was built with damage output values based on pre-nerf animate dead. Yes, the giga gamerd are still going to be hench and obliterate high enrage, but AD nerf has pretty well obliterated the viability of managing p7 damage at any enrage when you're not stellar at this game. Plus the infernus dmg now adds up arguably too quickly. - we were asked to give critical feedback on the staff changes a month ago, and then none of them were addressed and it now feels like was just a backhanded pander to let people feel heard without including any of the proposed changes (even the ones the JMods felt were reasonable requests). What was the point of asking for feedback, waiting a month, then releasing beta worlds to the pre-feedback changes..? Release these beta worlds, THEN ask for big constructive feedback, not the other way around.. - 4taa feels bad. It is what it is, but there's a small group that this appeals to. I'd argue most magic users will just go buy the bolg and move on. - bolg in its current state on average (hear me out) is more dmg output than fsoa. It takes a lot of rng to crit hard enough for the staff to pop off like the bow always does. So, that begs the question of: we don't nerf bolg currently because zammy is content being engaged with and making jagex money, and nerf is later? Or why bother nerfing the staff at all then?

Unless you have some big reveal with necromancy that's about to bring fsoa and AD back to their former glory, then we need to at least consider Implementing a trial period with the community suggestions on these test worlds.

Positives: - you gave us test worlds to show what we complained about last month. - range is about to be BIS again and that's fine too. - melee is still hot garbage, thank God because too many switches.

There's a pretty simple answer to this - the first stage is validating the feedback.

The Beta was built because of the feedback - this wasn't originally planned - not because we want to leave it unaddressed. We have additional changes already designed based on the original comments, but as a baseline, we wanted to get it into people's hands to see if actual play lined up with the comments.

This Beta will continue and based on feedback go from there. This just gives us real playtested feedback in addition to the on paper reactions.

But they will listen or still push the update and then tell us "we heard you but we will apply your feedback on a later date" and then nevere revisiting it again or until something makes the community really angry (again)?

We already postponed these changes from April in order to get deeper feedback before any implementation - and responded by building a Beta (which does take a bit of time even in it's simplest form).

We plan to put these changes in with feedback in mind. If the current changes don't seem right, we'll iterate in Beta and get feedback on revisions.
